  1. Well Northeast beat us in round 1, and we went and watched Gallatin beat Shelbyville last Friday, this should be a good football game. N.E. 's qb. almost beat us by himself, we couldn't stop his running. Every time we thought we had him bottled up he would get away and gain another 7 or 8 yards. Gallatin's O'line was impressive , if they block like they did last week it will be a very interesting game. But Gallatin better really put in some time on stopping the N.E. qb. We didn't really give up any real big plays to them other than a long run by the fullback, they just picked up around 3 or 4 yards a play and we couldn't stop them, Gallatin did the same thing to Shelbyville last week. Shelbyville knew it was coming but couldn't stop it. A rainy wet field will probably favor Gallatin, because N.E. has several kids that can fly and a wet muddy field might neutralize that.

  2. @855fan--I'm with you!  This week has been the slowest week in history.  You can be loud all you want, the TIGER NATION will be rockin' your visitor's stands so they hear us in Scottsboro.

@Falconstatman, I agree with you, although contrary to what falconfan01says, I don't think the primary purpose for the city school system was to create a high school to win championships.  It's a little too early to mention City in the same breath as So. Pitt, Union City, or Nashville Christian as a football powerhouse.  It is going to take at least five more years of bustin' it to get to anywhere near that level, and slowly the team roster will grow. I will say our school already has a two-time State Champion in women's tennis, with a possibility of repeating again two more times before she graduates.  I was in favor of the split as a way to offer Lincoln County parents and students alternatives to the established county system and school.  The elementary schools of both of our systems are bursting at the seams, so much so that the county system is looking to build a new elementary school.  We (I think) started the new high school to accommodate and prepare for the growing numbers of Lincoln County's children.

While some city students have transferred to county, and vice versa, it's been the vocal minority of LCHS parents that have continued to complain that a new school is a threat to the status quo.  Ask any of the kids at either school and they'll tell you they are there because that's where they want to be.  Granted, we have kids leave our school after the eighth grade because big brother or sister went to county and it's family tradition.  I have no problem with that.  It will take several years for it to become a natural thing to want to stay at a school all 12 years.  But to come back to my point of the fabricated "us vs them" mentality, at our first home basketball game this Monday, there were easily a dozen county students there cheering for city.  My boys and I still attend LCHS soccer or football games to support the athletes and classmates that they grew up with.  The kids don't see it like some parents do.  I firmly believe and have said it on this forum that from our roster, probably 5 would see any kind of playing time with the county team.  Coach Palmer and his staff have  developed and taught this team that they can compete with anyone at their level, even those kids who would never have considered football as a sport they could play.  And with such a small roster size, they're pretty much guaranteed some field time. I am a Fayetteville Tiger first, but a Lincoln County fan nevertheless.  All three of our high schools are starting to enjoy success, each of us on our own level, and that success will continue.  We each get support from local business and radio stations to promote our schools and programs, as well as the local newspaper.

rlh-- # 32, D. Thompson, is a Junior.  When he got hurt sometime (early) in the first quarter making a cut on the wet turf, I admit I was nervous for the outcome of the game.  BUT, the team filled in the gaps like they've done so many times this year, losses due to injuries, etc.  and they pulled together to get a definitive win.  We'll do that again tomorrow.  He'll be on the sidelines with the other walking wounded and he'll be with them on the field in spirit.  He's a Tiger!

Okay, since I'm outnumbered on this thread like 80 to 1, I think I've taken up enough space, except to say:

WATCH OUT YOU PIRATES, THE TIGERS ARE COMING TO YOUR HOUSE TOMORROW!  We're going to be loud, we're going to hit, we're going to run, we're going pass, we're going to block, we're going to kick, and we're going to POUNCE on each and every mistake you make.  And every mistake your boys make will BITE THEM!  You will remember November 22 2013 as the day THE FAYETTEVILLE TIGERS CAME TO SOUTH PITTSBURG!  YOU WILL REMEMBER THE TIGERS!

WE'RE GOING TO BURN YOUR CROPS AND SOW SALT ON YOUR FIELDS.  Wait, maybe not that last part!  Ooh Rah!  GO TIGERS!

Better not forget about #3 Trey Emmons. Might not be real big but he is quick as a cat and can get the job done. The freshman back (also an Emmons) is not bad either.

  3. I agree with your comment about winning State Championships. I use to live in Fayetteville and was there when the Schools consolidated. The talk was then about winning Championships. And I have also heard the same about the new City High School. With open enrollment it will be easier to win a Championship in class 1A than probably any other division.

I know this is not a Lincoln County thread and I apologize for that, but, I hear this all the time, and the biggest reason L.C. is not winning like it used to is simply enrollment. If we had all the kids at Fayetteville City and Riverside Christian we would be a better team no doubt, but, we would still be at only about 1400 to 1500 kids and it is hard to compete with the schools with 2500 kids ,year in year out,  that's over 1 thousand more kids to pick from and if you don't think that makes a big difference you are only fooling yourself.   Back in the 80s and 90s we still had about 1400 to 1500 kids and the bigger schools were a lot closer enrollment wise. They have grown and we have remained the same all the years enrollment wise  .I was not in favor of the split when it happened, nor was the big majority of L.C.,  but, it is here and we have to deal with it. And now really looking at it in the long run it might be best for both schools cause it did allow us to drop down in classification which helps us be a lot more competitive.   I guarantee you Coach Thomas, the coaching staff, and those kids want to win championships as bad as ever. Hopefully this will allow both of us a chance to win them again. B)

  4. If that is the case, I would forsee kids coming there from Lincoln County and bumping up their enrollment numbers/classification eventually. They aren't even a mile down the road from each other.

Don't see that happening right now .They have what they have and we have what we have. don't see any kids jumping ship back and forth  But coach P and his staff do an excellent job and you are right, they are very young. They played a tough schedule for a 1a team this year, especially a first year varsity team. They have some great promising talent coming up but the thing that really hurts them is simply numbers, I think they will only dress about 22-25 players. They will slowly raise that number but it will take them a couple or so years to do that. #32 Thompson is out and wont play, and that really hurts them .I think if they don't turn it over they will be able to hang with SP,but, if they play sloppy and turn it over it might get ugly. This same group of kids went I believe 9-1 last year playing a jv schedule which included beating Madison Academy of Huntsville Al. whose varsity won the state championship last season .We broadcasted all their games last season on Monday nights and they have some good players, just need some more numbers wise. Regardless of the outcome Friday night, they have had a good year for a first year varsity team.

  5. Yes, Coy is back at Coffee Co. and we wish him luck. For the falcons to win they must stop the rushing attack of F.C. But more importantly the falcons must hold on to the football, and cut out the mistakes that have plagued us so far this season. We have had a shot at victory in both games this year but, have let it slip away by not making plays when we had the chance. The falcons are about 4 plays away from being 2-0 instead they are 0-2.  Tonight's game is critical for both teams, the winner can go on and still have a good season and the loser is looking at a long difficult year.

  6. They are probably at the Patrick with all the old folks walking.

The fact is, punk knew about the city high school deal before he took,(or whatever you want to call it) the job, my guess is, he used us to get more money, and from what I heard, and been told, that's exactly what happened. Your offensive co. came and went thru spring practice with us, then quit and went back, hmmm just enough time to find out a lot about us. As far as our kids being at the patrick center, you are probably right, they are probably there, helping, and assisting the "old folks", or doing whatever they can to help out. Or maybe they are out delivering Honeys slawburgers to the "old folks". :roflol:

  7. LC is so far down the list in 6A. Regardless who goes there they won't be a big talent magnet........Blackman Riverdale. Oakland. Smyrna. Siegel. They wil see to that, but hey Humtland may have a ringer laying in wait

Yeah, all the mufreesboro teams you mentioned are all right at or above 2ooo students and we have 1100 to pick from, that is exactly the difference there. I don't think that any of those schools have anything to do with who we have on our team. As far as ringers, I have heard that if he does come he is going to bring a few with him. We are probably closer to Huntland enrollment wise than we are to the schools mentioned above.

  8. I hear what you are saying Rocky but if you have a coach nobody wants it means a 4 & 6 season is considered a success. Your motto is 2 & 8, we replicate! OC doesn't start the offer carousel but so far he hasn't jumped on board. It would stand to reason any teacher would jump at the opportunity to cross the border to receive a dual retirement. Can't blame him for that.

OC has done nothing but bust his tail to prepare the Cats from week to week. Most of the yapping has come from LC. OC has given total commitment to the program. The olly thing keeping a "family" from happening is a few local jealous jerks that serve no purpose other than to waste good oxygen :thumb:

Most of the "yapping" I have heard is from Giles Co.people. I believe this is on a Giles Co. thread not a L.C. thread.

If David wants to come, then we will welcome him with open arms, if not then we will find another quality coach that wants the job, might already be on the staff now, who knows. The main reason for all the talk is the fact that the job is now open, David and the majority of his staff are from L.C., played at L.C. and I believe still live here. It is just natural that someone might want to go back home if given the chance to coach where they went to school and played. I believe that David and his staff have way too much respect for coach Thompson to comment on anything about that until he made it official.

We should all know something before christmas, as far as who gets the job.

  9. Went to the game, total domination by Riverdale, just as I figured it would be. Waaay to much speed for SD.. In all fairness # 3 for SD. got hurt very early and that really hurt SD., he is one of their better players, really hurt us last week. Riverdale is is a good position to get a rematch with Maryville if they take care of business next week. Did notice that the warriors seem to have really improved since we played them 3rd game, may make a run! :thumb:

  10. Go Riverdale.!!!

We had them on the ropes and didn't put them away when we had the chance. Once our Qb. got a well placed "knee" in the back, right before the half we were done offensively, he was a trouper and came back and finished the game, but he was not the same after that. One of our best recievers got his ankle twisted too, and tried his best too but was far from 100%. Take away their running back who rushed the ball it seemed like about 300 times and see how productive their offense is.

I think that Riverdale has way too many weapons and speed for the trojans, and I will be there to check it out. But that is why they play the game, stranger things have happened.

  11. Well its been a good run Coach. I want to thank you for coaching my sons both on the field and off. We didn't always see eye to eye (especially you being a BAMA fan and me being a VOLS fan LOL ) , all kidding aside, I always respected you and your coaching staff. You were and always will be a great coach.

Looking forward to a new era of LINCOLN COUNTY FOOTBALL.

    GO FALCONS!!!!!

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE MEMORIES COACH LOUIS THOMPSON.

Ditto everything that you just said. Louis has been a great coach, good friend, and has gone far beyond the call of duty on so many things that I can't begin to mention all them. He has also been very easy to work with and would answer any question that you asked him honestly and truthfully. There have been times that he would show up at the school on Monday nights during football season and show the game film from the past Friday nights game to only me and just a couple of other people when I know that he had better things to do, but he would say as long as 1 person wants to see it , i will show it to them. Most people do not have any idea what kind of time he spent during football season sitting in the offices watching film of the next opponent, spending every Sunday afternoon mowing the grass at the football stadium and working tirelessly making sure that it and everything else was just right for next weeks game. He totally dedicated his time and life to trying to not only make a better Falcon football team, but also to the young men that he coached. He taught many many more lessons to these young men than just football, but lessons about life and how to handle adversity and problems. I have interviewed him several times after games when i knew he probably really didn't want to do it after a tough loss and he would always grin, and say that's ok, we will do it. I have been to many games with Coach, and people don't realize what an icon in the coaching profession this man is, and has been, everywhere we went everybody knew him, and asked him for advice and he would stand and talk to them as long as they wanted to talk. We would joke and say that we would have to get to a game an hour early just to get a seat because it would take that long to get to the seats because so many people would stop him and talk to him. We are not only losing a great coach but a great person as well that had a big influence on many ,many young peoples lives.I have never been an Alabama Football fan but, he came as close to converting me over as anybody ever has, with his numerous Bear Bryant Stories, and tales from his playing days.

So again thank you Coach Thompson for being a stand up guy, a friend, and for all you did for Falcon football and the community!!

  12. Since you like to down this Senior class and the parents so much, why don't you let us know who you are so we can talk about it? I'm a senior parent and everyone including you know who I am and would love to talk to you (in person), if you are an adult. I don't know of anyone who said we would win the state championship. I did believe we would make the playoffs.

I know I really don't have a dog in this race, but I saw the game from the press box last Friday night and I saw a bunch of kids from W.C. that didn't quit , but fought until the final whistle. The turnovers really hurt them and they came at a bad time in the game. I saw a kid that really got his clock cleaned going across the middle to the point that he had to be helped off the field, then was back in a few plays catching passes and playing his heart out, that is not mailing it in or quitting. You have some young talent and some seniors that will be playing on Saturdays next fall.

As far as Nitro, well, I've seen him a time or 2 and at 6'4 245 and 3% body fat, I don't know of anybody that would want to mess with him!!!!

  13. Funny post. As if winning 42-6 wasn't enough, you rub their nose in it by showing that they were not worthy of being that close. Then you wish them good luck? Come on man, take your win and don't be so smug.

Just exactly how is that rubbing their nose in it? Not worthy of being that close? Be nice if you made any sense yourself. I don't see anything resembling "rubbing their nose in it". If you are referring to me saying that we emptyed out the bench, most of the time when one team does that the other one will too, but that is up to the coach. That was a description of how the game went. Guess I could lie and say something else.

Smug? Not at all.We are 3-5 , don't think we have the right to be smug about anything.

  14. The Falcons dominated from the start. The Falcon defense totally dominated the Rebel offense. The Falcon offense has become more confident and scored almost at will. The Falcons started playing into the bench at the start of the 4th qtr and the Rebel offense got a cheap Td to keep the goose egg off the board. Good game Falcons.

Lincoln County 42 Franklin County 6

The Falcons played their best first half of the year last night, for sure. The reason I say first half was we only ran three offensive plays in the entire second half, because of the mercy rule with the clock running non-stop. L.C. kicked off to Franklin co. which then ran 11 straight plays all on the ground then punted to L.C., which we were backed up on our own 6 yard line, then we punted the ball back to F.C. which then ran 15 plays against our reserves and scored with around 0:43 seconds left in the game. Evan Pittenger had another great game with 190 yards passing, all in the first half, and had a 65 yard td. pass called back on a penality toward the end of the first half, or it would have been more. The defense also played maybe it's best game of the season, F.C. had only less than 10 yards total offense in the first half, and the first D stayed on the field one series in the second half, as then coach Thompson cleaned out the entire bench the rest of the way. Good luck to F.C. the rest of the season.

  15. You have a great atmosphere for high school football. I heard you have some freshmen that could help next year.

Yeah, wingman we will have possibly the best if not the best Freshmen class we have had in a long time. Like I said earlier our freshmen go to 2 different schools, Fayetteville City jr. high and NGA, both were pretty good this year and when you put them together they have the potential to be a pretty good class. A good deal of speed at both schools, something we have been a little short in the past few years. Of course there is always some of the kids that decide that they just don't want to play anymore, and you always lose a few that way, but hopefully not any will do that. After seeing and doing their games this season, there some of the kids that will have the chance to play very quickly because of graduation, and a few that will also get some action early on. :thumb:

  16. Good to see you guys winning again. A program with so much pride and history. If this is Coach T's last season then why not go out on a good note. Hope you guys do win out. "The Pit" is a special place to play. The steak sandwich is a nice touch. It truely is a high school football throw back atmosphere. Good luck to you guys the rest of the way.

Thanks for the kind words. It has been a tough couple of years for sure, some of it our fault, some just running upon other teams at the top of their game. We have played 2 good games in the past 2 weeks, several players have really stepped it up, but changing our defense back to the 50, that we have always ran, has helped the most. Playing schools with twice our enrollment hasn't helped us in the past few years either, We don't have freshmen at the high school, they go to 2 different schools, but the tssaa still counts them against us anyway, we have 1100 kids to pick from, and some of the schools we play have over, or right at 2000 students), but there is something in the works to take care of that situation hopefully.

The steak sandwiches and the slawburgers are hard to beat for sure.

  17. Team has worked hard and improved. Good wins over Columbia and Coffee Co. Huge game in Winchester coming up.

Boy, you exactly right there wingman. We must win out and Tullahoma must also beat Lawrence Co. the final game for us to go to the playoffs. Playing better competition makes you a better team but for the past 2 years we have probably overdone it a little to much, lol. We have really improved from the first couple of games for sure but the change back to the 50 defense has been the single biggest improvement of all. Evan Pittenger has really improved every week in his overall play and also his decision making. He played the best game of the year last night, running and throwing the ball, and his decision making , like I said has improved tremendously. But we must take it one game ata time and really concentrate on Franklin Co. now. Like we said last week our playoffs started last week against Columbia. We must win out.

Good luck to Coffee Co. the remainder of the year.
