  1. Is there a way me and you could tie??

    Just having fun.

    Go Cougars

I don't know. I had enough trouble figuring out the stuff I already did. Just easier to copy someone else's pick than make my own.

48 sounds good, though. I think it will be a good game. I don't know if cold weather will affect DCA passing game (which is a big advantage for them), but it could lower score. So, I say 28-20 DCA.

  2. Isn't this what playoff football is all about, two teams of supposedly equal talent, with next to no knowledge of each other, meeting Friday night with the winner advancing to the next round, where the scenario repeats itself.

Yes, that is what the playoffs are SUPPOSED to be about; unfortuntely, the new Z-Plan reads like this:

"two teams of known equal talent, who had already or just played each other, meeting Friday night with the winner advancing to the next round and the loser (that is better than most winners) going home, where the fiasco repeats itself." /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Best of luck to all the fine teams that remain and congratulations on their accomplishments.

  3. When will high school refs realize the HS game has gotten more physical and faster due to the increasing talent levels of the players? Pressure defenses are becoming common, players are quicker, and you have to allow some physical play or it is impossible to defend a bigger or stronger player.

You can't call a game these days the way you could a few years ago. The players and systems have changed and will continue to do so. What is a real shame is to see a good player have to spend the whole game on the bench becasue of tick tac fouls. It totally changes the game and deprives the fans of seeing the premier players compete.

  4. After seeing Harpeth beat CPA in a very good game the first game at CPA last year, I predicted Harpeth would win at least 20 games and make some noise in the playoffs. They did that.

How many starters does Harpeth have back from last year's team?

THis should be a good game and tough for CPA to win at Harpeth's gym.

  5. 3rd round points are 8 each game, but since everyone still left picked Alcoa and Goodpasture except MKD24 (picked Camden), there cannot be a swing of more than 16 points in the standings this week.

If York and Milan win, I will be hard to beat because most people agree with the semifinals and finals.

If DCA and Milan win, there will be a new contest leader(s) next week - Volcamry42 and Fade Pattern. I would then be tied for 3rd with timbdp.

Jangel and mkd24 will be mathematically eliminated this week since the most points they can get is 16 and those are the same 16 everyone else will get.

4 of the finalists have DCA and Westview winning, so if DCA loses, they are in trouble.

Isn't it sad that I have the time to figure this out?

  6. You are mistaken there. Fairview's defense started slow but the 2nd half of the year was probably the best defense in the region the way they played. Hickman played them early and dominated. Hickman would of still beat Fairview but I don't think they would of hung 40 on them. Fairview's worst performance of the year was against Hickman.

Also Fairview played DCA and only gave up 26, so that theory is out of the question.

Look for Goodpasture to win this game. Hickman hasn't seen a team like this all year. GP by 10.

I may also not be mistaken. It is my opinion, and you have yours. As the song says: "you may be wrong and you may be right"

I stand by my opinion. I also believe DCA is much better now than when they played Fairview the first time.

I am not anti-Fairview, I am just stating what I believe concerning the quality of the 8 teams left in the 2A chase.

  7. Z is more on the side of 6'6 (maybe a little taller) and miller and anderson are both around 6'1. The other two starters, Peterson and Reeves are both at 6'3.

Heighth doesn't hurt, but that is not why CPA is good. They have 3 starters who have played together since 1st grade and have been "gym rats" their whole lives. They also have great coaching from Drew Maddux who has them playing a full court pressure defense. All have good size and shoot well, but are also very quick and athletic, including Mason, who, by the way, is pushing 6'5", no more.

By the way, Miller is the nephew of Mark Miller, lead singer for Sawyer Brown. Mark Miller was a very good college player in Florida.

  8. We shall see dp.

Just a prediction. At this point, 7 of the 8 teams left are pretty evenly matched. Alcoa is in another league, but GP's win against Lipscomb, Ravenwood, Camden, Coffee Cty., McGavock and CPA twice is impressive. GP's only loss was at DCA (still in the playoffs) where they trailed 28-7 at half and almost won the game in the second half.

Very impressive season, but they could lose if they have an off night against hickman co. Plus, I may be wrong about Milan beating Peabody.

  9. I don't think the players or the coaches where planning on a perfect game they truely expected to win this one. Good luck to the Cougars in the playoffs.

I was responding to Camdenbottoms post where he said:

"Good job Camden and Goodpasture.I knew Camden would have to play a perfect game to win.But it didnt happen."

And I would hope the players and coaches were expecting to win. That what winners do. Camden had a chance and played a great first half, but if you followed GP's season, you will see they were a GREAT 2nd half team that finished strong and beat some really good teams in close games (Lipscomb, CPA twice, Ravenwood, McGavock, Coffee Cty.). Their speed means they are never out of a game. Congrats to Camden on a great season. They really improved their playoff performance this year after the CPA disaster last year.

  10. Good job Camden and Goodpasture.I knew Camden would have to play a perfect game to win.But it didnt happen.

If a team is planning on playing a perfect game to win, they will lose. Perfect games don't happen.

Bear Bryant was quoted once as saying: "When two good teams play each other, the game is usually decided by 3-4 plays. Whoever wins the most of those plays will win the game."

  11. here's the link to the box score, for DCA at least. I don't know if Tyner got their stats to the Tennessean yet...??

    http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/se...6&story_id=

Looks like Tyner got outcoached. DCA saw in film they could throw on Tyner and that's how they beat them. Pierce had best passing game of the year, and Worden ran enough to balance the attack and make the pass effective. In high school, good coaching is the difference in a game when talent is equally matched.

  12. Hey Lions4ever, what's the scouting report on Goodpasture? I know in years past they've been huge up front and could throw the ball well. What should HC key on?

I'm not Lions4ever, and don't know if he would agree, but I saw GP play twice and here is the scouting report I wrote after the CPA game and before the Camden game. I don't think it has changed:

    - Limit (you won't stop completely) GP's big running plays. CPA did a good job containing GP's running game, holding runs to less than 5 yards on most plays, but then gave up 5 long runs in long yardage situations. For example, on GP's first series, they had 3rd and long, CPA had the QB scrambling in the backfield and they missed a tackle and he went 70+ yards for a TD.

    - Tackle well at line of scrimmage. Once the GP backs get to the linebackers they are too fast for most highschoolers to tackle.

    - Win time of possession and limit GP's touches. Have some time consuming drives. CPA's Lowery was able to get 4-5 yards consistently. CPA didn't have a lot of big plays, but they moved the ball and used clock. GP only punted once but still almost lost the game.

    - Kick away from the speed backs. If you kick to them, you will give up a long return eventually - book it.

    - Look at film: CPA lined up fast DE's wide to force sweeps inside. It worked most of the time.

    - Pick your poison. You have to stop the run and hope GP's passing game is off. It was on against CPA - otherwise, CPA would have won.

    - Don't throw desparation passes that aren't open. The interception will be returned for big yards. It is better to throw controlled passes, then punt.

  13. ONE WORD- TURNOVERS

Your're right. That's how Camden got the lead in the first half, and lost the lead in the 2nd half. Camden played great and proved there is not much difference in these two teams, but GP's speed in the 2nd half was the difference and they took a knee to win by 2 instead of 9.

  14. Prediction:

IF Camden wins, the posts will be about how they were the better team, played harder, and deserved the win. No mention of private school advantages.

IF Goodpasture wins, the posts will (ultimately) be about the inequity of public schools having to play private schools. And most of these posts will not be from real Camden fans who will show more class than that. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Seriously, good luck to both teams. They are both class programs, have good teams, great fans, and have had a great year.

  15. He is super short and unless he runs a 4.3 he will not go D1. If his grades or act are a problem he can still probably qualify for an NAIA school because you one have to meet 2 out of the following 3 requirements: 18 on ACT, 2.0 cumulative GPA, top 50% of graduating class.

Wherever he goes he will still be a Tennessee high school legend.

Marco Dailey has been a great HS football player and is obviously very talented. I have not seen him play but there is no way he is better than Gaston Miller, who racked up great stats playing on the best 5A team in the state (Riverdale) against the best competition in the state. Miller was not recruited by a lot of big schools, but went to Vandy where he has hardly played for the past two years.

He is 5'7, 165 and from what I understand that is probably as big or bigger than Dailey.

It is VERY rare that a small back racking up large numbers against 1A schools is going to make it at the college level, no matter how good they are. This is not a knock against Dailey, but a fact of life. I hope he goes to the next level and does well, but I believe it will have to be at a small college program.

  16. What would your opinion be if GP went east along with DCA? Humboldt was one win short of that happening? I would bet it would be different.

It wouldn't change my opinion. I am not upset about CPA having to play Goodpasture in the early rounds anymore than I would have been upset if they had played DCA or Fairview for that matter. My point is that part of the fun (and purpose) of the playoffs is to see how teams match up with other teams they rarely would play in the season, and to get a real picture of how one area matches up with another. I think the travel is a small consideration within reason (which could be controlled), and the true fans will travel and enjoy it.

I really enjoyed travelling to Boyd Buchanan a few years ago (regular season) to see their school and to see how we would match up with a consistently good program. We have had them come to CPA, as well as USJ and it is always great for the teams and fans and an interesting game.
