Ironically Murfreesboro is one of the fastest growing counties in the state. That said house prices have gone through the roof and you cant find anything hardly. I don't mean reasonable... I mean there is no real inventory zoned for  certain schools. So it's not just a Maryville problem. You can get houses on the edge here which has you going to Rockvale, Eagleville, Stewarts creek ...So we see the same challenges. To top it off there is a moratorium on appt building permits as none will be offered for next few years , as the infrastructure will not support more residents adequately in these areas.

Rutherford County is the 11th fastest growing County in the nation, not just the state.

That's great for property values and football teams. Not so great for traffic.

  2. Let's worry about Lebanon. Summit and Maryville are not our problem right now. Lebanon is 11-1, and that is not by accident, or luck. And we've got to play at their place.

I expect a tough game, similar to the playoff game against Mt Juliet a couple of years ago. We barely won, something like 15-12, or so.

I'll take a win, no matter how close, but I can guarantee that LHS is not going to show up expecting to lose.

Central Magnet-No school football but kids that want to play football do so with the Eagleville team.

You left off LaVergne and Middle Tennessee Christian.

  4. Someone asked what are Oakland's strengths, so here's my observations.  I don't think that they are all that big, but their team speed is ridiculous, especially on defense.  If you run straight at them, you can move the ball a bit, get a few first downs.  You might even finish the game with more first downs than Oakland.  But all those 1st downs are between the 20's.  You're going to have to drive 80 yards every time, and very few teams are able to do that.  Big holes close so fast because of their team speed. If you want to beat Oakland, you're going to have to break off some long runs/pass completions. They're very disciplined and well coached.  So there won't be a lot of penalties, and they always seem to be in the right place.  If you throw a lot of passes, we are going to intercept some of them.

On offense, Oakland will score just about every time they get the ball, so you will have to keep up.  They have some great backs and all of them are capable of taking it to the house from anywhere on the field.  Oakland will run all day long if you let them, but they can throw effectively when they need to.  Our QB is new this year and has gotten better every game.  I'm not convinced that he can throw it deep, but is very good at completing 10-15 yarders and moving the chains.  Horton is a world class receiver, but is not afraid to block.

I'm a homer, so my  prediction is Oakland by 14. Lets say 28-14.    If I'm wrong, and we lose this game, then I'll be bummed out about it, but I'll be glad to have had a game against better competition.  It will only make us stronger.

So, now someone from LA, please share what we can expect from your team.  What are the strengths and weaknesses? What or who should we look for?

I was wondering where @Middle Tennessee Football is at...:popcorneater:

Nah, we're here.  It's interesting reading this "Official" Maryville/Oakland thread that is about 90% Maryville fans arguing with Dobbins Bennett fans.

The other 'Unofficial" Maryville at Oakland thread is 100% Maryville fans arguing with somebody from Alcoa.

Meanwhile, us Oakland fans are enjoying our popcorn while you guys keep debating each other.

Point being, a few weeks ago you pegged a potential rematch as a game that you see as a runaway for Oakland. Now your picking any and everybody to upset Oakland, based on your opinion that Oakland's defense is a "sieve", "achilles heal" and "fair to poor" without offering no proof because the numbers don't back that statement up. I

f you said Oakland was smaller upfront and thus more vulnerable to the run I could agree with that. I could even go with this isn't their best defense talent wise. If Oakland's defense is considered to be poor, then so is about 99.9% of the defenses in this state. Oakland basically gets the Maryville treatment now, having dominated the local competition so thoroughly that people trying to look for anything and everything as a perceived weakness.

Oakland Defense PPG through 10 games (under Creasy):

    2020- 85 (8.5)

    2019- 79 (7.9)

    2018- 93 (9.3)

    2017- 112 (11.2)

    2016- 47 (4.7)

    2015- 129 (12.9)

Yes you can move the ball on Oakland's D a bit, but it's a long way down the field 3-5 yards at a time.  And you have to do it every possession, because Oakland is going to score quickly and often.  The Oakland drives that stall are typically due to a penalty or turnover, and those aren't frequent occurrences.

Are both teams healthy for the game this week?
