>"Hey David....
>Randy and Terry will be in..."
Yep! Looking forward to it. And we (Riverdale) go to Jackson to play them this year as well. I have some fond memories of watching them coach some great games here at Riverdale in various tournaments... Ya get them and the Franklin County guys together for a weekend and it can be a real hoot!!! Fun Time at the Ballyard!

Riverdale assistant baseball coach Barry Messer named 2002 AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year in the state of Tennessee by COACH AND ATHLETIC DIRECTOR MAGAZINE.

Coach Randy and Coach Terry are what my late papa would refer to as "Good People'...
I look forward to seeing them every baseball season!

>"I'm sorry, Pennington had a great year, but that does not make him a better QB than Manning."
Isn't the very definition of 'being good' is to be able to have a 'great year'? I have never understood the 'Peyton passion'. He is a great guy that comes from a great family and he stayed in school and etc... But on the field, what has he every really accomplished? Look at his UT career. In 3 games vs. Vandy (Vandy!) the scores were 12-7, 14-7 and 17-10. He did put 38 on the board against Alabama his senior year but the three years vs. Florida? 37-62, 29-35 and 20-33. If memory serves, didn't he have some key interceptions (that seems to be a big bugaboo with him) in those Florida games?
by the way, I honestly think Peyton is a great QB, but I couldn't resist 'reeling in' a VolFan :

>"to david limbaugh, do you honestly think Pennington is a better QB than Manning? "
Yes,
and so does the NFL,

>"What about Ralph King from Riverdale? "
See the Kenyon Buford thread - I think he is at MTSU now?
-
>Andy Kelly, Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning, Tee Martin, and >Casey Clausen ....
And Chad Pennington has won more NFL playoff games than all those QB's combined
Only one school produced the winning QB's in the first three Superbowls ever played....
-
Dan - nice list - got to watch those kids every year
in August when they came over to scrimmage Riverdale. Speaking of Riverdale, (check out 95 and 96)

"how many teams are going to be in the tournament?...and who?"
My copy of the schedule has
Farragut, McMinn, Morristown East, Jackson Chr,
Riverdale, Mt. Juliet, Webb, Daniel Boone,
Science Hill, Warren Co, Overton, Goodpasture,
Morristown West, McCallie, Tullahoma and
William Blount.
-
Does it seem strange the Holcomb from Fayetteville and Pennington from Knoxville had better days than a certain QB from UT had???
-
and the fields to be used are
UT (like in where Alabama wins football games?)
FHS (Farragut High School?)
LSU (LSU? Pretty long commute from the Hill To Baton Rouge?)
LSL (Louisiana State Lafeyette???)

Some at Blackman have a long way to go to learn
'class' and 'sports'.
From the 'Candy Bar' baseball game to the band
playing during the plays in football to the banner
about a Riverdale player on the field before
kickoff at Riverdale - Some of the Blaze have some
things to learn when it comes to sports and
sportsmanship.
But there are some great kids and fans at Blackman
as well. Sadly, the actions of a few....
-
How could the Crawford's from Oakland not made at least honorable mention??? ANYONE who watched any Oakland football got to see two kids who seemed to NEVER miss a tackle... At Riverdale, we got to see them play against us and there is no telling what Oakland's defense would have allowed to us and others if those two didn't make the tackles they did.
-
Coach Crawford is an amazing coach, and more importantly, an amazing person.
Coach, I Hope we meet again next year!!!
-
So we will have ball to watch between games while we are in Memphis? And another chance to get to the Rendezvous
-
Huh? A place for little schools? How does 4 classifications hurt little schools anymore than 5 do now?
25% of schools would be 1A or "small". Using my 6x multiplier plan seems to help "small" schools by 'forcing' private schools to perhaps play in 2A, 3A or even 4A??? How would that not 'help' "small" schools?
-
And your team is????
-
I have a hunch these are the reasons:
1) Public-Private split (now 8 champions)
2) Too many classifications
3) Ticket prices
4) By the time the 3rd game is played, the
stands are a mess (no offense to Larry Counts
and great folks at MTSU) because there is
no time to clean the stands between games.
5) Seems like every year it goes head-to-head
with SEC Championship game.
Even though I am in Murfreesboro and love
all those tax dollars from others outside
the county, how about this plan?
Use 'the Limbaugh plan' (see the discussion
on public-private split) to get us all back
together.
Go from five classifications to four. Four
would mean more teams in each region/district
giving more meaning and more competive
regular season games.
Rotate the class 1,2,3 and 4 each year
between UT Knoxville, UT Chattanooga,
MTSU and Memphis. One game in
each location. Kids get a chance to
see new places and if a Germantown is
in the finals the year Memphis is
the location then less travel for them
but if they have to go to Knoxville,
chance for kids and parents to see
'The Hill'.
Also scrap the current playoff system
that allows for teams to play each
other too early in the playoffs. Part
of the 'fun' of post-season is seeing
new faces and new places.
What do ya think?
-
-
Why not this plan?
Instead of Division 1 and Division 2, lets all get back together?
One issue is 'recruiting' and 'scholarships'.
Lets do classifications this way:
Public - attendance numbers as they are done now.
Private - Six times the number of students of that gender in that school as the attendance number. This should more than offset any advantages of 'recruiting' or 'scholarships'.
Also, instead of current five classifications reduce the classes to four. And PLEASE scrap the current playoff systems that have same schools playing each other again early in the post-season. The 'fun' of the post-season is seeing new faces and new places. And more schools in each district/region could make for more competive play?
What do ya think?
Where do you think is the best place for a TSSAA s
in Football
Posted
I sent an e-mail to TSSAA a long time ago suggesting that state finals 'rotate'.
One year have 5A at MTSU, 4A at UTC, 3A at UT, 2A at Memphis, 1A at Vandy, DIV2-1 at ??? and DIV2-2 at
???
And each year 'rotate'. That way kids have an
opportunity to play and see different parts of
the state - and some years some folks have to
travel less or more than other years...
