  1. Thanks for the invite. I'm checking into it and seeing if it's something we can do.

I'm not sure if you are aware or not, but in Georgia the middle schools don't have school sponsored programs. We wrestling in youth programs/clubs that are chartered and generally use the local high school's facilities. We participate in a few dual meets with other local youth programs, but this would be different and fun for the kids in the program.

We're trying to figure out how we could get our kids there for the early weigh in. We have a tournament, Gwinnett County Championships, that we host the night before.

  3. For you guys in Chattanooga, if you get a chance on Feb. 6th go out and support your local team, UTC, and pull for one of Chattanooga's own, Drew Woodward (Baylor 2002). He should be in the line up for Carson-Newman at either 184 or 197. He has taken some lumps in his freshamn year there but has remained dedicated and kept a positive attitude.

  4. Another tough dude that comes to mind is Pat Murphy, from Hixson '79, met Ellis Gardner in the heavyweight state finals. I think Pat had a little pay back in mind for Gardner going after his knee earlier in the season on the day he got the cast off. If I remember correctly the match was 14 to 2 and the 2 points came from Murphy picking Gardner up over his head and throwing him to the mat. After the referee said one more time and you˜re disqualified, Murphy pinned him.

Murphy also had some tough guy matches with Johnny Bradford (Central) and Russ Arthur (Red Bank) earlier in his career.

  5. 1moretime....yup....his dad wasn't happy that his son didn't get match at the Cleveland Duals with someone from Bradley. Collins Hill wrestled a JV kid at 160 against Bradley so there wouldn't be a forfeit.

I'm from Hixson, but live down here now (Collins Hill area) and I know both father and son Luckas and they're good people. Nick is probably the best 135 in Georgia this year.

Be interesting to see what happens next year at the Cleveland Duals.......Nick is a junior. Maybe I'll tell dad to stay home!

Sorry didn't mean to be negative....if you'll read my post after the McCallie Inv. I thought John should have won best wrestler of that tournament.
