  1. Hickman Co. advanced to the Region 5-AA Finals as they defeated Giles Co., 49-47, in a close game where Hickman Co's Jaclyn Wise led all scorers with 19 pts (5 threes, 2 of 4 FT's), 8 rebs, and 2 assists. Hickman Co. had a total of 7 threes as Jana Gilbert added 2 while Giles had only 1 addtional three by Keosha Wisener. This was probably the key to Hickman's win. This was the final game for the Giles Co. Seniors - Vee Young, Hope Garrett, Marqueissa Davidson, Tiffany Wall, and Gabby Garner. I have enjoyed watching all of you play over the years and wish you much success in your life after high school. Vee Young scored over 1000 pts in her career and gave it her all tonight as did the others.
  2. Thanks, CoachF. Here are some other numbers those from the South of me might be interested in: These averages are based on East Literature's 14 regular season district games and 4 post-season games: Team Average Points - 43.6 - Last 4 games - 48.8 Oppt. Average Points - 47.0 - Last 4 games - 46.0 Team Average Threes - 2.3 Oppt. 3. Thanks CoachF and CoachT. Anything is better than nothing, but I really need the full roster in order to fill out my scoresheet properly before the game. Since I have not even seen East Literature at all during the season, I'm kinda in the dark about them. If I don't get any more #'s, I will get them at the site, but I hate quickly filling out my scoresheet right before a game begins as I most always get them out of order or mis-spell someone's name.
  4. The roster for East Literature shown here on coacht and in "The Tennessean" has no numbers listed. I also looked at their web site with no success. If anyone can supply them, it would be helpful in my coverage of Monday's game at Spring Hill against Marshall Co. Thanks.
  5. I have corrected the Free Throws for Marshall Co. from 12 of 22 to 14 of 24 (58.3%) - Sorry for the error as I thought I had corrected that last night. The FT difference between the teams (MC 24, CPA 10) was mainly due to CPA fouling late in the game hoping MC would miss from the line, but MC hit 11 of 18 (61.1%) which is sort of down from their normal FT%. The officials were from the Cookeville area and pretty much let the teams play in the 1st half as the fouls were even at 4 each. It will be an interesting game between Marshall and East Literature on Monday as I plan on being there to observe the action. I believe we will see a more physical game from Marshall as I felt they were a little tentative against CPA in the 1st half. I'll do a little research on EL to see what has turned their season around in the post season.
  6. Thanks for your report, shpshter93. Great Job on the action down the stretch.
  7. Marshall Co. started slowly and only led by 7 at the half, but they came on in the 3rd qtr to lead by 18 and took the win in the 4th qtr, 56-36. over a scappy CPA team that held their own in the 1st half. Marshall Co. was led by Lauren March with 23 pts and 11 rebs followed by Jessica McQueen with 9 pts that included 2 threes and McKenna Moffett with 8 pts with 2 threes and 4 assists. CPA was led by Anna Mitchell who had 10 pts and 7 rebs followed by Logan Miller with 9 that included 1 three and 4 of 4 FT's. Turnovers were a key to Marshall's win as CPA had 24 while the Tigerettes had 14. CPA.....11...6......4...15.....36 MC.......11..13....15..17.....56 Marshall Co. Marshall Co. advances to the Semi-Finals of Region 5-AA at Spring Hill where they will face the #2 seed of District 9-AA East Literature who won over Lewis Co. 56-54.
  8. I was not aware of this topic until late last night when a prospective coach asked me about it. The prospective coach asked me some questions about the situtation that I really couldn't answer. This morning I emailed Kathy Dye and received the following response: Always with a coach stepping down, rumors start flying. The bottom line, administration wanted me to stay. I had their complete support. They did not want me to step down regardless of who was complaining. I have chosen after 18 years to get out of coaching. Numerous reason influenced this, the main one is including playing in middle school, hs, and college plus coaching, I will have summers off for the first time in 28 years. Unfortunately, rumors will fly. This happens. Some are valid, some are not. I do appreciate your support. Thanks, Kathy Parents, no matter who they are, will complain when a team has a losing season. They all feel that had their daughter had been in the game maybe we could have won. Coaching is a hard job that I could never do. Finding the right combination of players to win is hard because even star players have off nights and the coach hopes that someone will step up from the bench or another starter will fill the void. I accept the statements from Kathy Dye as true and do not believe that a parent on the school board controls the team.

  15. In the Championship game of District 10-AA, the Marshall Co.Tigerettes came out strong in the 1st half and cruised to victory in the 2nd half as they defeated the Hickman Co. Lady Bulldogs, 48-28. Jessica McQueen scored all 14 of her pts in the 1st half which included 4 threes. Jakerra Simmons was 2nd in scoring with 12 followed by Lauren March with 11 that included 8 in the 2nd half. Hickman Co. was led by Jaclyn Wise with 12 - all in the 2nd half - and hit 2 threes. In the 2nd qtr, MC outscored HC, 18-6, as McQueen hit 3 threes, Moffett had 7 with 1 three, and Simmons had 2 (0 of 1 FT's) while HC's Hutcherson, Phillips, and Parks each had 2 as MC led at the half, 32-13. In the 3rd qtr, MC outscored HC, 10-8, as both March and Simmons had 4 each and McLean had 2 while HC's Wise finally got on the board with 5 pts that included a three, Phillps had 2, and Gilbert hit 1 of 2 FT's as MC led after 3 qtrs, 42-21. In the 4th qtr, play seemed slow to me as HC outscored MC, 7-6, as Wise had all their pts with a three while MC's points came from March with 4 and Simmons with 2 as Marshall Co. won the championship game, 48-28. Marshall Co.'s rebounding was certainly a factor with the 28-13 edge along with their 1st half three point shooting, but they played good defense against Hickman Co.'s Jaclyn Wise who normally scores about 20 a game. There were very few fouls called and FT's were extremely low.
  16. In the consolation or 3rd place game, as I would rather call it, Lewis Co. came back from trailing most of the game to outscore Giles Co. 15-6 in the 4th qtr to take the win. Micah Anderson led the Lady Panthers with 11 pts that included 7 of 8 FT's and C. C. Tibbs had 10 pts with good support from Jessica Hinson and Taylor McKinney with 8 pts each. Giles Co. was led by Vee Young who had 18 pts, 13 rebs, 1 asst, and 2 blocks along with Marqueissa Davidson with 13 pts, 10 rebs, and 2 assts. Lewis Co. shot well from the line with 19 of 29 FT's that included 9 of 12 in the 4th qtr while Giles only hit 4 of 9 for the game and missed their only 2 FT's in the 2nd half. Turnovers were also a factor as Lewis had only 9 while Giles had 21 with 14 in the 2nd half. Giles Co......14..16....13...6......49 Lewis Co......12..12....17..15.....56 Lewis Co. In the 2nd qtr, GC outscored LC, 16-12, as Young had 8, Garrett had 4, Wisener hit 2 of 3 FT's, and both Davidson and Wall each hit 1 of 2 FT'a while LC's McKinney had 6, Helton hit a three, and Jessica Hinson, Hill, and Anderson each hit 1 of 2 FT's as GC led at the half, 30-24. In the 4th qtr, LC outscored GC, 15-6, as Tibbs had 6 (4 of 6 FT's), Anderson had 4 (2 of 2 FT's), Jacie Hinson had 3 (1 of 2 FT's), and Jessica Hinson had 2 (2 of 2 FT's) while GC's Young, Davidson, and Garrett each had 2 as Lewis Co. won the 3rd place game in the District 10-AA Tournament, 56-49. In regards to the fouls and free throws, Giles Co. had 2 technical fouls - 1 on Vee Young for taunting after her block in the 1st qtr, I believe, and Wisener had the other one in the 4th qtr for using bad language. This gave Lewis Co. 4 extra FT attempts than they nornally would have had, but there was still a lot of difference between the number of attempts for each team. The play was aggressive all night so maybe that's just the way it came out and I'll make no other comments on the officiating, but maybe others will.
  17. I normally check my reports for scoring errors by checking the box scores in "The Tennessean" the following day, but there was box score shown for either game last night or this morning. I will check all my stats this morning and there could be corrections. If I have made any errors, I apologize in advance. I have corrected my original post to show Cameron McCullough with an additional assist that happened in overtime on a pass to Blaise Spencer for his three. McCullough now has a total of 5 assists instead of 4 and Marshall Co. now has 13 team assists for the game instead of 12.
  18. I have corrected the number of turnovers for Giles Co. to 16 from 13 in the post above as I made an error late last night. There may be other corrections as I check my scoresheet. I hope that my individual points totals for both teams are correct as there is no box score in "The Tennessean" for me to check as they only have the score. I apologize for any additional errors in advance. I completely left out the team assists in my original report and have now edited in that Giles Co. had 10 and Lewis Co. had 7. Devin Holt led Giles with 7 and Kyle Tenison led Lewis with 3. During my years here on coacht, people have asked me why I do these reports and my answer has been that I want to supplement the coverage found in newspapers and also get players' names out there in hopes that may get a chance to continue their careers in college. Neither of last night's games have box scores in "The Tennessean" which I regret as both games were exciting contests with great individual performances and also team efforts. Coverage of AA teams in greatly lacking in my opinion as they normally cover AAA teams. I hope my reports fill these gaps as I will provide my reports for the remaining games in this district tournament and also the regional tournament.
  19. In the 2nd semi-final of District 10AA, #2 Seed Giles Co. defeated #3 Seed Lewis Co., 61-57, as Giles' strong inside game of Creshaun Holt, Artez Franklin, and Dominique Harney combined for 40 pts and PG Devin Holt added 10 pts with 2 threes and 4 of 6 FT'S. Edward Dartis came off the bench for the Bobcats to hit 3 threes to add to the balanced attack. Lewis Co. made a good run in the 4th qtr with 28 pts to Giles' 19 as Chance Helton had 11 of his 16 pts and 2 of his 3 threes and Kane Crowell had 7 of 12 pts that included 5 of 5 FT's, but the Panthers can up just a little short. Giles Co. advanced to the Championship game on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 against Spring Hill who won earlier over Marshall Co. in overtime, 69-65. 20. Post #1 now updated with stats. I'll add one comment - it is rare that a team can come into Lewisburg and beat the Tigers at their own game - three point shooting - but the Spring Hill Raiders did it tonight. Free Throw shooting became a factor in OT as Spring hit 7 of 7 as Marshall Co. was forced to foul. Congratulatons to the Raiders on their big win.
  21. #5 Seed Spring Hill came from behind to defeat #1 Seed Marshall Co. in overtime, 69-65, after tying the game at 60 all in the 4th qtr as DeAngelo Williams hit 3 threes and Montae Brown had 8 with 2 threes. 22. I received an email from Kathy Dye yesterday informing me that she would be stepping down as coach of the Lady Patriots. Kathy was the head coach at Page the last four years and had been in coaching for 18 years including being the assistant coach at Riverdale prior to coming to Page. Kathy also said that she ready is ready to begin the next chapter in her life where she will pursue other interests. I have enjoyed working with Kathy as she always kept me informed on the aspects of the team and I will miss her greatly. I'm sure she would appreciate any comments from those of you she has touched during her coaching career.
  23. Thanks for your reply, raiderpride. I don't want to take anything away from the Hickman Co.'s win as they have really come on late in the season after a slow start. Jaclyn Wise is a great player with a good shot and her 20 pts along with Kelsey Wright's 14 and Jana Gilbert's 10 showed good balanced scoring. One of the keys to HC's win was the breaking of the back court press that LC's uses. One of the LC parents sitting near me commented during the game that LC was tentative in their offensive play in the first half and their 5 pt 2nd qtr allowed HC to take control of the game. The fouls were even at 7 a piece in the 1st half and LC had 15 to HC's 10 in the 2nd half, but they fouled late in the game to put HC at the line hoping for a miss, but HC hit their FT's (11 of 15 in the 4th qtr) and LC was also accurate with 10 of 11 in the 4th qtr. HC had only 4 more FT attempts for the game than LC (23 to 19). I appreciate all of comments that the others made as I have not received many comments on my posts during the season. It's good to get several opinions about what happened during a close game as it gives new perspectives of what happened. Since my team has lost out, I watch all the remaining games as a somewhat of a neutral observer. I will try to be more careful in my future posts to give credit to the winning teams for their good play and will refrain from negative comments on officiating.
  24. I fully expected this game to be close, but Marshall's Lauren March was great underneath and the team hit 7 threes with McKenna Moffett getting 3. Giles Co. just made too many turnovers and Vee Young only had 10 pts - all in the 1st half. Giles Co..........4...10.....2....3.....19 Marshall Co.....17..11....24..11.....63 Marshall Co. Player Stats: Lauren March - 25 pts (7 of 7 FT's), 12 rebs, 3 assts, 1 blk Jakerra Simmons - 10 pts (0 of 2 FT's), 5 rebs, 1 asst McKenna Moffett - 9 pts (3 threes), 1 reb, 4 assts LaRhonda O'Neals - 4 pts, 1 asst Jessica McQueen - 3 pts (1 three), 4 rebs, 1 asst Andraya Tears - 3 pts (1 of 2 FT's), 3 rebs Danika Hopkins - 3 pts (1 three), 2 rebs, 1 asst Artavia Bryant - 3 pts (1 three), 2 rebs Lauren Reeves - 3 pts (1 three) Kanesha McLean - 0 of 2 FT's, 1 reb, 2 assts Addricka O'Neal - 1 reb, 1 asst Mieke Wallace - 0 of 1 FT's, 1 reb Giles Co. In the 2nd qtr, MC outscored GC, 11-10, as March had 4 (2 of 2 FT's), Simmons had 4, and Moffett hit a three while GC's Young had 8 and Davidson hit 2 of 2 FT's as MC led at the half, 28-14. In the 3rd qtr, MC really took control as they outscored GC, 24-2, as March had 12 (4 of 4 FT's), Simmon had 4, both Hopkins and McQueen each hit a three, and Tears had 2 while GC's lone basket was by Davidson as MC led by 36 pts after 3 qtrs, 52-16. In the 4th qtr, with the "35 pt" rule in effect, the clock ran most of the time as the MC subs outscored the GC subs, 11-3, as L. O'Neal had 4, both Bryant and Reeves each hit a three, and Tears hit 1 of 2 FT's while GC's Wall hit a three as Marshall Co. won 63-19 and advanced to the Championship game against Hickman Co. on Mon, Feb. 18 at 7:30. Giles Co. will play Lewis Co. in the consolation or 3rd place game at 6:00
  25. Before I throw the numbers out, I have to make a comment on the officiating. It was not the lead official who made the bad calls, but one of the secondary officials. Several times during the game it appeared that Hickman Co. fouled the Lewis Co. player, but this official called Lewis for the foul. One of the most blatent errors happened in the 4th qtr where Lewis player #3 Jessica Hinson had the ball in the corner and a Hickman player rushed in to try to steal the ball and knocked Hinson down. Much to everyone's surprise this official went to the scoring table and held up 3 fingers. I knew immediately that Hickman didn't have a #3 on their roster and then the official pointed to Hickman's goal giving them possession. The Lewis fans went crazy and even the lead official talked to the official to question the call, but the foul was given to Jessica Hinson and the ball went to Hickman Co. Even at the end of the game when Lewis' Micah Anderson attempted a three point shot that would have tied the game, no call was made on an obvious foul. These are just 2 of the notable errors, but there were far more during the entire game as Lewis fell victim to poor officiating. Off the soap box and on with the numbers. Hickman Co......11..12....13..21.....57 Lewis Co..........10...5.....13..26.....54 Hickman Co. Player Stats: Jaclyn Wise - 20 pts (6 of 7 FT's), 7 rebs, 2 assts Kelsey Wright - 14 pts (4 of 5 FT's), 5 rebs Jana Gilbert - 10 pts (6 of 6 FT's), 3 rebs, 3 assts Kayla Hutcherson - 7 pts (1 of 5 FT's), 3 rebs, 1 asst L. A. Phillips - 6 pts, 3 rebs Brittany Powers - 6 rebs, 1 asst, 1 blk Lewis Co. Player Stats: Micah Anderson - 17 pts (1 three, 8 of 8 FT's), 6 rebs, 1 asst C. C. Tibbs - 11 pts (2 threes, 1 of 2 FT's), 6 rebs, 3 assts Taylor McKinney - 9 pts (1 of 1 FT's), 8 rebs, 1 asst, 1 blk Marisa Bryant - 6 pts (1 three, 1 of 1 FT's) Jacie Hinson - 5 pts (1 three), 1 reb Jessica Hinson - 4 pts (2 of 3 FT's), 1 reb, 1 asst Whitley Clayton - 2 pts (2 of 2 FT's), 2 rebs, 1 asst Chynna Helton - 1 reb, 1 asst, 2 blks Hannah Hill - 1 reb Team Stats: Three Point Goals: HC 0, LC 5 Free Throws: HC 17 of 23 (73.9%), LC 15 of 19 (78.9%) Rebounds: HC 27, LC 26 Assists: HC 7, LC 8 Blocks: HC 1, LC 3 Fouls: HC 17, LC 22 Turnovers: HC 14, LC 11 Hickman Co led at the end of the 1st qtr, 11-10, as Wise had 6, Wright had 3 (1 of 1 FT's), and L.A. Phillips had 2 while Lewis Co.'s Anderson had 6 (4 of 4 FT's) and McKinney had 4. In the 2nd qtr, HC outscored LC, 12-5, as Phillips had 4, Gilbert had 4 (2 of 2 FT's), Wise had 2, and Wright hit 2 of 2 FT's while LC's Bryant hit a three and McKinney had 2 as HC led at the half, 23-15. This low scoring qtr for LC did not help them at all. In the 3rd qtr, both teams scored 13 each as HC's Wise had 6 (0 of 1 FT's), Wright had 5 (1 of 2 FT's), and Hutcherson had 2 while LC's Jacie Hinson and Tibbs both had 5 with a three and McKinney had 3 (1 of 1 FT's) as HC maintained their 8 pt half-time led at 36-28. In the 4th qtr, LC made a valient effort as they outscored HC, 26-21, as Anderson had 11 (1 three, 4 of 4 FT's), Tibbs had 6 (1 three, 1 of 1 FT's), Jessica Hinson had 4 (2 of 3 FT's), Bryant had 3 (1 of 1 FT's), and Clayton hit 2 of 2 FT's while HC's Wise hit 6 of 6 FT's, Gilbert had 6 (4 of 4 FT's), Hutcherson had 5 (1 of 5 FT's), and Wright had 4 as Hickson Co. won, 57-54, and advanced to the Final where they will play Marshall Co. who won later against Giles Co., 63-19. Lewis Co. will play Giles Co. in the consolation game for 3rd place.
