  1. Birdie, its obvious that you are all Chester Co. All of your posts in any forum have you pro-chester. Are you sure that you can back up all this talk? Yea, a gold ball does give you a leg-up on most west tn teams but this is a new year. Most teams, not just chester, get better as they play more. We'll talk again after mid-january. Good win tonight against obion, but I don't consider obion a tough team at this point.

All in good fun. If I have offended, sorry. I just hope 12AA shows as well this year in the post season as we did last. Have a nice day.

  2. What happened to Chester.

Nothing has happened to Chester. They have a VERY talented team. Playing a brutal schedule. Taking their licks early, BUT somehow young players are looking more confident every game.

CC lost around 8 games last year, most at beginning of year. Mark this...if they improve during the season, as I have seen them do the last several years, they have the potential to be awesome by February.

  3. Redbird, it's nice to see another fan that understand the dynamics of the game and the fact that the season doesn't end in December. B) It's the parable of the tortoise and the hare. You have your teams that get out to a fast start. Then you have your slow beginners but big finishers, so that by the end of the race they catch-up and pass....well you know the rest. B) It seems to be the same teams every year. Who knows, time will tell. Wishing everyone a happy and safe holiday season!! B)

  4. prov1- I wouldn't call Dyer Co. a worthy opponent. Gleason and GC did scrimmage earlier in the season.

And CC beat Dyer. Scrimmage? So. CC will continue to get better. Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season... and, of course, bball season. My regrets and prayer go to the Holloway girl. Hate to see that happen. There are more important things than what we seem to be grabbling about! :thumb: No hard feelings.

  5. Dyer Co. and Hardin Co. are hardly worthy opponents. The other I will agree with you. Chester could surprise in March but things need to change.

I know, why don't you make a list of "worthy opponents" your top ten have played, and teach us. :thumb: lol

How many times does Chester have "to surprise" in March for you to give them credit? If another team loses early, you say they "need to wake up" and rank them 2nd. If Chester loses early, you say "they aren't that good, anyway" and, like the press, rank everyone else with a better record (but lower strength of schedule) above them. Track records don't seem to matter. Still, doesn't seem to keep them off Murphy Center floor. :o:lol:

  6. Westview was beating Chester County by 15 in the first half. Latoya Bellamy was having her way with Bianco Thomas and Latoya must have had 16 or 18 points in the first half. Bellamy is a much better player than Ole Miss bound Thomas.

I was at this game. Give Thomas the supporting cast Bellamy has and everything is different. Obviously, Chester County is a much different team losing Holliday and others from last year. They were good enough to win a state championship. I am not from Chester County, just there to watch girls play basketball. This year's CC team couldn't even get the ball up the court against Westview's press. I don't think Bellamy is a much better player than Thomas. I think that Westview is a much better team. By the way, there is a lot of difference in the caliber of teams at Ole Miss compared to Austin Peay where Bellamy is headed.

I totally agree, for right now. Keep in mind that Westview is returning the same team, and Chester County is trying to find the right mix and match with a slew of underclassmen. And they haven't started the season with any cupcakes for the young onces to sink their teeth into, either! Dyersburg, Gleason, Westview. :thumb: The youngs ones are having to learn quick, and should pay off dividends.Like I said, it looks like Coach Pipkin is trying to get about 10 girls prepared, and she's kicking them out of the nest HARD with this schedule. I guess, if you're going to learn, now's the time. And it might as well be against the best. Lose early to win late. Improving her supporting cast will make Thomas all that more effective. I see A LOT of upside to this CC team!

  7. anybody have any scores on games that were played this afternoon and evening?

Thomas wasn't even guarding Bellamy. :thumb: Anyway, yes they ARE a different team than last year, playing a TOUGH pre-district schedule. I believe CC only played about 6-7 players last year to this year 9-10 players. They are playing a lot of sophs-jrs, and all they need is game experience. Plus, I don't believe they had any problem getting the ball up the court second half. Westview is a very good team (same team from last year), and Chester County will have a very good team come tourney time. It looks like they are about a month away from doing their damage. Keep in mind, these games don't determine championships.

  8. Chester had their sophomore pt. guard out as well, with an injury. Don't know when she will be back, but heard she's a real dandy!!! It looks like Chester is trying to get a lot of inexperienced kids some playing time as well...which will pay of when it counts.

As for Dyersburg's loss...the season is YOUNG. No doubt you guys have a nice team. I wouldn't be too concerned.

  9. ok both are great program and both will have great seasons good luck to both B)

I agree. Dyersburg will be tough, and so will Chester when they get warmed up and start clicking. I believe Chester even took the lead in the 4th quarter. Thomas had 32, which, if my memory serves me, puts her over 2000 career points!

According to box scores, it looked as if Chester had a case of 1st game jitters in the first quarter (19-7), but out scoring Dyersburg in every other quarter. With these two, Westview, Gibson, Obion, just to mention a few of the west Tn teams, hey, this should be an interesting year in AA!! B)B)

  10. I'm sorry but everyone is entitled to their opinion and mine is that Chester County is the worst team to ever win a state title. I watched them play all three games at the state tournament and they were still not very good. Their first round game was the worst game I have ever seen at the tournament. It was boring and they were lucky to win. Watching Chester County play was about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Having said all of that they are still State Champs and no matter what anyone says no one can take that away from them.

If they were so bad, why didn't THE BEST step up and beat them?

They may not have had a team full of talented players, had the best shooters, best ball handlers, tallest players. But, what I saw was a group of girls who found a way to win and were coached around their shortcomings. Yes, they were the underdogs, And yes, according to the press and everyone else they should not have won (probably shouldn't have been there). Not to mention half the team had the flu.

The "no matter what anyone says, no one can take the State Championship away from them," speeches need to stop. Each one of you ARE trying like heck to make light of their accomplishment. I only hope that someday when your team wins that others won't act as petty as some of you have shown on this board. I am very disappointed in some of the posts from some of the people on this board. All you have to say is "congratulations" and move one. Win with class and lose with class. Anyone could have won, it happend to be CC's year. And on those three days last March @ Murphy Center, those girls were ahead on the scoreboard when the buzzer sounded. Therefore, I say "Congrats" to the CC girls for what they accomplished last year and good luck to them and everyone else across the state during this new season. Hope to see you all in Murfreesboro this year!

  11. Wescharge,

You know who they are. Showtime is on here claiming he picked them last year. I'm like you I remember him picking Westview.

I got a chance to watch Chester County and Jackson County play last year at Christmas and was not impressed with either team. And I must say that the crowd at Jackson County was a big let down as well. I thought that place would be rocking but a good Jr. Pro crowd would have drowned them out.

See you made me say their name.

I don't know about Jackson Co., but you WILL NEVER be impressed with Chester County before January! I have been a fan for years and years, and that's the way they operate. Ask any team that plays them early and again late. This does not make them a bad team. It's just that they figured out that beating a team in Nov-Dec doesn't put them where they want to be in FEB-MAR! I've seen Chester put out some of the so-called best teams once tourneys hit. It's sad that you have to get on this sight and bash a bunch of girls that worked hard, got a shot, and made the most of it. Bad karma goes around!

  12. If this will make some people mad, why start the thread? Each year, every team has the SAME chance and opportunity, as any other team, to make a run at the gold ball. To say a team is BAD, or asking which is the "worst" doesn't make sense. They can't be too bad to beat the supposedly "best" teams in order to win the ball.

    Maybe the thread should read...

"Team that made the most of opportunities, and peaked at the right time... to win a gold ball."

Unlike college football, high school basketball teams are given an opportunity to play it out in tournaments. And championships (or worth of a team) is not determined by records nor by a committee. Man, why do we even play tourneys??...let's all take a vote and pass out the trophys at Longhorn! :thumb:

  13. They could have a bad year and finish 26-6 or be a great year and finish 33-3. The district is loaded, I think 2 losses will win the district, maybe 3!

If Westview has learned to play defense or does so after Christmas, then look out, if not, we'll score alot and give up a lot.

There are no freshmen that will help much this year, but next year they will have 2 studs coming up, and one will probably start from day one!

I already need a pukebag.....but if Chester Co can win one, anybody can!!!!

You are correct about playing defense. Chester Co. plays defense! Defense wins titles! The Gold Ball sits in Chester Co! Quit crying and puking or whatever is you do and get off Chester Co.

  14. Yes they can. But should not be able too. Guys cannot play on girls volleyball or softball teams, CAN THEY?

    Softball = baseball

    Football = cheerleader.

I've seen guys on the cheerleading squad; why shouldn't a girl be able to play? If a girl is tough and can take the pain, why not?

  15. Chester County's Bianca Thomas verballed to Ole Miss this past weekend. Article was posted in the Jackson Sun this past week. Congrats to Miss Thomas and Ole Miss - they got a good one! Playing in SEC and less than 2 hours from home. I bet her family is happy.

Are there any other verbals out there?

  16. There is no chance that Haywood is better than everyone but Dyersburg!  Yes, they are athletic, and yes, they are Haywood!  Most of the spell casting powers has been past on to the "Warlord of Westview".  Sean has been around McMillan for the last 5 years, and, like several other young coaches, has learned alot from him.  Add to that his own personal knowledge of the game, and Westview will be fine on the sidelines.  (HeavyD will be close by too)

If team camararderie (spelling?) comes around, everyone better look out.  Not sure Phil Jackson could make all these ladies get along.....time will tell!  The top 4 teams are all in 13AA, 14AA is bringing up the rear!

There will be 2 excellent teams not make it to the region!  I would definately want that #1 seed and a bye to the region, because the other 3 matchups will all be good games, especially in a must win (collar tightens up) game!

Good luck to all, and lets bring home some gold and silver balls this year.  I am still miffed over the Chester Co saga last year.  They couldn't beat Westview anywhere, and they won it all.  Congrats to them, but I don't like it!

I've been a watcher of Chester County for quite a long time, and I have seen teams beat them in Nov, Dec, Jan, ...but usually it's hard to beat them late. Fortunately, tourneys are played in Feb. and Mar. instead of Nov. and Dec. :D

Y'all's district is going to be EXTREMELY tough. It should be a dog fight every night! West TN basketball, as a whole, is getting much more competitive.

  17. I hope someone has seen both teams or at least both districts enough to give us an educated guess. Does Bolivar travel well? Do they run up and down the floor

    or slow down the game?

I did notice that the tallest girl on the roster is listed at 5'9".

Tallest girl is 6'2 and big. Going to play at Howard next year.

  18. Earth to flngrvy.....she has no jumper and she's small for a post...that's why she is going to Belmont!  No doubt she is a great player, but there is a reason she is playing in the Atlantic Sun conference!

The whole mentality that if a player can go big, should go as big as they can is archaeic. Other factors to consider. Why do you think there is so much transferring? Kids getting glitzed out by the idea of D-I instead of where and who they will be spending the next 4 years of their lives, getting an EDUCATION for life after basketball! Clark is a heck of a player and I'll bet you wouldn't want her standing between your team and Murphy Center.
