  2. Don't you just love it, Don? You and the staff always put on a great tournament. Good luck this weekend. I understand that money is always going to be an issue, people. I wish it wasn't, but there is no way around it. I think we can all agree that no wrestling program in this region is "well off." Maybe Webb, haha. Wrestlers, coaches, and parents dedicate their blood, sweat, and tears for this sport, and to ask for a little money to show some appreciation for it is not too much to ask for. Also, take lots of pictures or video tape the matches and ceremonies and make it worth the money that you pay. You'll have those forever. Trust me you won't regret it.

  4. I've had the pleasure of shaking Coach V's hand many times, as a wrestler, coach, and fan. He's one of the main reasons why Region 2 wrestling has become what it is today. Thanks for everything Animal, we wish you the best!
  5. I know it's getting close to Regions and this is about the time tempers start flaring. This is wrestling, and attitude is everything! So, I see nothing wrong with a little smack talk every now and then, but things are starting to get a little out of hand. I think that Region 2 is the closest knit wrestling community in the whole state. Not only do almost all the state qualifiers come together and practice with each other, but we ALWAYS pull for each other at state no matter what. When we see someone from our region in the state finalsor medal rounds, you felt a sense of pride even if it wasn't one of your wrestlers. But now here we are, trying to earn respect at state for all our hard work and we are wasting our energy fighting. Every team in Region 2 deserves praise because we are all out there doing something that we love, even when we get little or no recognition for it. That's the bottom line! Please, use your God given ability to help others instead of insult. I'm no preacher, but I do know what hurts wrestling and we're not helping it right now.
  6. Blake Ridenour gets my vote, too. I've watched him wrestle for almost a decade now and he's definitely deserving of his success.
  7. I think everyone here would agree that a bad year for Farragut is a good year for most any other school in Region II. Meaning that Farragut has dominated almost the last decade in our Region and that the possibility of sending 5 wrestlers to State would be welcomed by any other team. No one is against Farragut here, but I don't blame Maryville for getting excited about their team this year, either.
  8. Thanks for all the info! Even with Maryville and WB in the mix to make it to State, our newspaper down here doesn't give them enough coverage. Sounds like it will be an electric atmosphere with the top teams all in one gym. See you guys there!
  9. Who is hosting the Region 2 Tournament this year?
  10. Sluder will win region easily and should do well at state if he can continue to wrestle like he is capable of. I think the other 103 that placed from Greenback in the Science Hill Tourny is pretty good, too. Practice partners make wrestlers better or worse, there is a perfect example.
  11. I wish I could have watch this one, it sounds like it was an exciting match. That Rambo kid is pretty tough, I've delt with him before.
  12. I hear that place gets pretty rowdy when Greenback and Rhea Co. duke it out!
  13. I couldn't attend this years tournament. Did Halls have an awards ceremony? I know what you mean, though, it seems like more and more tournaments have stopped doing award ceremonies due to lack of time-I assume. Wrestling tournaments take a great amount of time to run, I know, but that should make the awards ceremonies that much more rewarding to fans and wrestlers. I think we should get ole Dan Mitchell from Seymour(still there?) to do awards ceremonies at our tournaments, he's not shy! Hope everyone agrees!
  14. Catholic beat WB, what was the outcome with Maryville?
  15. um...studying...yeah, studying! So, what will the toughest weight class be this year? I know that 160 was solid, will those guys be at it again this year?
  16. Thanks Coach B! The Catholic Inv. is probably the best run two day tournament in the state, I'll definitely be there, just not at 6:30 am. Good luck this season Don, we're anxious to see the Fighting Irish in Region 2 action this year. See ya in a couple of weeks!
  17. yeah, I seem to remember him getting beat by Marshal Davis of Heritage. Thanks for asking fellow wrestlers, but I won't be coaching H.S. probably for a while. I'm definitely looking forward to being in the the stands with the blue and orange faithful!
  18. Best of luck to the squad, families, and coaches at William Blount! This could be another successful year for the defending District Champs. I will be cheering them on through the season as they work hard to reach their full potential and accomplish their goals.
  19. To anyone taking the time to look at this post, I sincerely appreciate it and would like to hear your comments on the matter. Today, I had the privilege to watch my first middle school football game of the year between a very talented Maryville squad and a determined Heritage team. The level of play between the two Blount County teams was rather impressive! I congratulate the coaches and players of both teams for giving 100% all four quarters. Sadly, the only regretable memory I have to recall is the last play of the game. With MMS leading 18-6, on about the HMS 30, and under :30 left to play in the game, I was bewildered to see the young Maryville quarterback take the snap, roll out of the pocket, and connect with his receiver for in my opinion, an unnecessary touchdown. Whether the coach called the play, or the quarterback called it, I do not know. What matters is the display of sportsmanship and respect for one another on the field, again in my humble opinion. The final talley was Maryville Middle School 24 and Heritage Middle School 6. Please note that the final score does not in anyway do justice to how extremely close and exciting this game was. Sure, maybe, and it's a big maybe, HMS could have scored those two touchdowns in the last thirty seconds to tie the game, and I could understand that the final MMS touchdown was to "put the nail in the coffin" so to speak. It just had me wondering what other coaches and players would do in that same circumstance. If there is any coaches or players that would like to share their thoughts on this matter, please enlighten me. Thanks.
  20. Mr. Rigger- I can't even fathom what Nick felt when he won the championship! He did something that I nor anyone else from William Blount has ever done and that was reach the ultimate goal in our state's toughest sport. He has another chance to repeat as well, I believe, but standing next to him will be his younger brother Shane who looked equally impressive in his first year! As you know and the rest of the state knows, Farragut will be even better in '05-'06! Thanks for asking about Zach, he's doing well. He has been redshirted and is getting used to the program. He'll have all he wants if he wrestles Nick in the future. My only dissapointment was that Harless didn't medal at 103 like I thought he would. The 103 lb wrestlers actually looked like 103lbs for a change. Mr. Rigger, I was very impressed with your son's wrestling ability. He had several great wins this year that should propell him to bigger and better things next season. Keep him on the mats as much as he can take it this summer and he'll be another Farragut legend! I congratulate you Mr. Turner and the entire Admiral Wrestling Team on a another successful season!
  21. Good Luck 'Kees! We'll be cheering for you.

  23. Reb Wrestler...Everyone in the state should have a two lb allowance as of Dec. 25th. As for the tournament on the 28th there will not be an extra two lbs allowance. So if you wrestle 112, you must weigh at or under 114. Hope that helps. Also, this tournament will be held at William Blount High School and it is on a Tuesday. Many parents may be working that day, but if you are a fan of wrestling and can make it to watch, please come and support this great sport we love.
  24. Mr. Rigger! First, please let me congratulate you on a very good and successful program at Farragut. You show a wealth of pride and support on this message board for the teams and wrestlers you cheer for. However, until now, I could read your replies and agree or disagree in silence...just the way I like it. Hopefully I will be able to defend my friend and wrestler without raising too much comotion, but if I do...oh well! I'll live. I will definitely agree with you that the 189lb region champion from last year could not do anything with Nick Reviez last year. Last year Nick was an exceptionally good wrestler, and this year he looked very tough when I saw him at the Catholic Tournament. Your wrestler Reveiz and William Blount's Zach Dunn met each other in the finals of last year's region tournament for their second ever meeting (Dunn winning both meetings). I would have liked to have seen what Reveiz could do, if onlyhe had been able to stay in the 32ft wrestling circle. Unfortunately, all I was able to see( and seemingly several others) was Reveiz continually being pushed out of bounds over and over and over and over again for about 5 full minutes. With about 1 minute left, I did notice that Reviez began pushing back to possibly attempt some sort of takedown maneuver. In the end, though, a very tiresome and weary Zach Dunn had his hand raised after the final buzzer. I don't think that a normal wrestler could have kept his focus the way Mr. Dunn did in the duration of that kind of match. Zach is not a normal wrestler however. Ask his coaches at Cumberland College if you would like. We can set up an official match with Reviez and Dunn if you would like this summer. Just come on down to good ole MURVILLE and we can make it Dunn/Reviez Part III. Oh, and just for the record I am anxious to see how 103 shapes up this year not only in region II but the whole state (because of the weight management).
