  1. It should be a great day for the A/AA schools on Saturday. A lot of emotion will be present when the "Little A" Greenback Cherokees(248) and FRA Panthers(300) face-off to determine which school will face the winner of the "Jumbo AA" Hixson Wildcats (996) and Springfield Yellow Jackets (998). History favors the larger schools. Hixson was State Dual Champion in 1973 while Springfield was State Dual Runner-up 1992-1994.

  3. Any word on how the Section II A/AA competition went?
  4. I am just glad that TSSAA set up a A/AA dual tournament that gives some additional teams the opportunities to test their talents against other A/AA teams. I think the matchup of FRA and Greenback in round 1 is great. That way, one of the single A schools is guaranteed to make it to the finals against one of the larger AA schools.
  5. RIGGER101: Since Greenback has you as its avid supporter and promoter, I will even the fan support and go with the other "little guy", Franklin Road Academy. Coach Marc Taylor and Coach Justin Ridge are both class acts who have invested a ton of effort and time to build their quality teams. Hope both teams have all their guys healthy for a great match on Saturday.
  6. Ryan's loss to MBA last Friday cost them BIG.
  7. Shame on any team passing up a chance to compete for the state duals in order to improve its chances for success at the individual state championships. High School Wrestling is about both individual and team competition. The dynamics of the two are very different, yet both are cornerstones of wrestling's greatness. Talk to the boys and most will tell you that the experience of being part of the team was equally valued with winning individual matches. Realistically, most of the guys do not qualify individually or as a team for state competition. Yet, they truly cherish their time on the wrestling team. I think high school wrestling would lose an integral part of its character if competition were limited to individual results only. I have seen wrestlers demonstrate uncharacteristic ability, endurance and attitude when their team is "in the zone" during a dual match.
  8. Right On Rigger! The coachs from Greenback and FRA deserve special recognition for their ability to field a competitive team from within their relatively small schools - Greenback (255) and FRA (283). It's even more remarkable when you consider that both of these schools are coed so the pool of available(not necessarily willing or able) boys is about 125-150. I imagine that the coaches must prowl the hallways constantly searching for a student looking about the right size for a currently vacant weight. Once they have found a group of wrestlers, these small school wrestling coaches are required to move wrestlers up or down to fill weight classes. They also have the stress of knowing that they have little or no backup for certain weights if a wrestler is sick, injured or otherwise occupied on a given match date. Best of luck to Greenback & FRA. Let's see if David can slew Goliath.
  9. Rueben here's some info from the Leaf Chronicle The Wildcats wrapped up the Region 7 crown nine matches in, after Cliff Gibson won an 18-10 major decision over Josh Sumbler at 135 pounds, giving Clarksville an insurmountable 37-3 lead. The match started at the 189-pound weight class. Ziolkowski (171) did his part by pinning Ryan Anderson in the first period and thereby made Clarksville's championship official. "
  10. How and when will the 4 team seeding for the A/AA State Duals take place? Right now Greenback, Franklin Road Academy and Springfield have qualfied with District II to be decided on Tuesday at Hixson.
  11. BartlettDad: Time to switch to decaf and put more fiber in your diet.
  12. Sounds like no rest for the weary. Thanks to DAL and the others for taking on the responsibility for organizing the section 1 A/AA duals. That's why you get paid the big bucks. Hope the weather cooperates and you guys have a great tournament.

  14. Has any other Region 6 team beat Overton this year?
  15. Anyone have the details of yesterday's matches between Ravenwood, Harpeth and East Literature? Thanks
  16. I agree that it could become quite a mess. How about adding this to the equation? In an earlier post, a couple of coaches said that the rule requiring a wrestler to wrestle half of his dates at, or below, the weight they wrestle at regions/state had been dropped. When was this dropped? If so, where are the new rules? The 6/30/04 version of the 2004-05 TSSAA Handbook still has the "half of dates" rule. Do all coaches get copies of the new rules as they are issued?
  17. I agree that TSSAA better set forth some rules before the regional/ state meets. Otherwise, it may get more than messy since the current rules only address violations by giving a wrestler a first time warning. If a second violation is made, then a punishment is levied. No mention is made of how or if the individual match wrestled by the "red flagged" wrestler is counted. Here's the TSSAA rule: In the event that any wrestler exceeds the 1.5% weekly weight loss rule, an e-mail will be generated directly to the TSSAA office. Any wrestler violating the weekly wt. loss rule will receive a warning. If a further violation(s) occurs by the same wrestler, he/she will not be permitted to compete in the next two competition dates. Here's an extreme example. Wally Wrestler is a senior. He violates the 1.5% rule and enters the regional invidual competition at 140 pounds and qualifies for state. He is red flagged and warned. At state he again violates the 1.5% rule and makes the 140 weight class. He is caught by TSSAA but the only prescribed punishment is to be barred from his next two competition dates. Not a problem since he's a senior. In case you think the multi-day state competition will stop this problem, remember that each tournament is considered a "date" even if the tournament is a multi-day event. How can this be stopped. Oregon High School Assoc. requires that all wrestlers submit a weight card at the regional/state tournament's first weigh-in. This card must have a complete and accurate summary of all weigh-ins during the season. Failure to provide such a card means disqualification from the tournament. By doing this, a "red flagged" wrestler never gets to wrestle and the problem on how to handle any matches by the red flagged wrestler is avoided. Thoughts anyone ??
  18. Wish I was. I was looking online today at the 2004-2005 TSSAA Wrestling Handbook dated June 24, 2004. Where do you get the new handbook ??
  19. Under the TSSAA Wrestling Handbook " a wrestler must weigh-in at least one-half of his dates during the season at the weight class or weight classes below the one at which he will enter the regional(state) tournament." If I understand this right, a wrestler must get to his "target" weight class by mid season or he is not elligible to wrestle in the lower weight class at regions/state. For example, if a wrestler finally got to his desired weight class(say 140) on January 14th and certified at 140 prior to January 15th, then he must wrestle half or more of his season's wrestling dates at 140 or lower in order to wrestle 140 at regions/state. My question is: Is this rule still in effect given the new weight control program that limits weekly weight loss? If it is; is it enforced? Thanks for your comments.
  20. Does anyone know where I can get the results from this weekend's Hendersonville Invitational ?? Thanks.
  21. Anyone have the results from last night's Hixson/East Ridge matchup ? Thanks
