  1. First of all Congrats to them Buffaloes, They have worked hard to get to this point under the direction of coach Case. I have nothing but pure respect for the way he has led this football team. My son is a senior as well and they deserve credit for their accomplishments this year. Now about the profanity, I agree to some degree that tempers and emotions will fly from time to time. But I myself as well as another poster that I read have coached little league baseball from minors to junior little league and have never used such fowl language toward one of my players. It is very disrespectful and not a necessary part of any game. The chain gang poster is spot on in what he is saying because I was along the fence over there myself and heard alot of it. The problem I have with it is the fact that it is not only the players and coaches out there, there is families out there as well. Lots of them are women and smaller family members of the players. Under no circumstances should they have to hear that kind of language. I am referring to the big words that was spoken mostly, I am guilty myself from time to time of saying the smaller ones when I shouldn't. Someone made a reference that the kids in some cases probably say them too, my answer to that is they are children and they had to hear it before they knew how to say it. This is just one mans opinion and not intended to stirr up any fuss, simply my outlook on this. Hampton has no doubt got a very good football program and I have heard great things about their coach. I think they are young and just need to develop (just like west greene). I would like to compliment the parents and supporters who came out to see the game with the bulldogs, they showed great support for those guys and even though they were out numbered they made almost as much noise over there as we did! LOL. Every team needs that kind of support!!!! It helps tremendously!!! Good luck to you guys and i do have to close by saying "HOW ABOUT THEM BUFFALOES"!!!!!!!!!!

I agree!! If the coaches don't teach these kids the right thing they are not doing their job..... It' right or it's wrong, no middle ground on this one! This is not the first time for these coaches, how can we expect the players to clean their mouths up if the coaches don't. No disrespect pujo, but I(personaly) wouldn't let my son play for a coach/coaches who felt they had to use language like that. Work to hard to try to teach the right things. Trying to get them through the school day and the weekend is hard enough, these kids look up to people like your brother, he(not saying it was him) has a GREAT opertunity to lead thes kids down the right road, It's his job!!!!

  2. I know whats being said ,but I don't have a clue who's telling it. I did hear some threats awhile back.

pujo, let Carter Co. in on" WHO" it is. zAZa90 will eat them for lunch! The County teams are counting on you in this one, give them /he/she up and we will run them out of "TOWN"/off the screen!!!!!!!!!! CHEATERS NEVER REALLY WIN IN ANYTHING THAT TRULY COUNTS!!!!!!!!!! I don't think the Cloudland, Unaka, Hampton or Happy Vally coaches would cheat. /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" />

  3. Come Come fellows , Cat got you're tongue. Seem to like reading alot more than typing this mourning. WHATZ UP.

THE GRACE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY ,CRUISING FOR A BRUISING IN 2008

MY MY MY, I believe REALITY has their tongue(key board)!!!!! psssssssssstttt, I think they know what's comming pujo!?!?!?

  4. No , they have only played one regon team, the others are just traditionally weak teams. When the schedule was made out ,they were pretty weak themselves. Idoubt these teams will schedule Grace anymore. Grace will have to scracth around to fill a schedule. They need to call Trousdale and South Pitt, these teams are also striving for perfection in 2008.

pujo, I've seen both Hampton AND Grace play twice, in my opinion Hampton is the better team at least (2) td's. Tougher kids, better coached, longer tradition. As for the cheating, if the players did not move they supposedly should sit out a year. Who is the QB for Hampton, didn't see him play last year?

  5. The one thing you have to think about is, you saw Hampton against one of the best 1a teams in the state. You saw Grace against one of the weakest teams in the state. Its not going to look the same. You have to know what you are looking at before you can make a accurate judgement.

I'll go along with that until proven otherwise.

  6. I think all the seniors are James Coffey OL/DL, Josh Peters OL/DL, Jordan Pearce WR/DB, Travis Taylor WR/LB/DB, I think thats all of them if I left someone out sorry.

I can't help but wonder what kind of leadership the afore mentioned are providing. Judging by the fight in this team ,or lack there of, I'm quite certain we all know the answer.

  7. I was there last Friday night and I must say the good folks at Unaka have a great atmosphere to play in. Everyone I talked to enjoyed being at your guys facility and your team did look young but they played very hard every down and with a little maturity will be a good team in a season or two.

All of this is true with maby the exception of the "playing hard" part. I to think they will have a good program in a year or so. But for now at least, show some fight. For the first time the field looked like a high school football field . Someone told me it was the QB club that did it. To who ever it was GREAT JOB!!!!!!!! and KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!! The improvements to the fence and the field look really good, what about bleachers for the visitors side? I think it would be a nice touch. Again back to the topic, and again I question the fight in this team. Who are the seniors on this years team?

  8. according to what i heard, due to rangers being a bit young and small they wanted to put JP on the line, he didnt want to play OL, so he didnt come out, DY supposedly was on the THS freshman team, then xfred to unaka and has played 3 years there using up his 4 years of HS elgibility. It just hurts this year more than others cause they are a bit light this year.

JP didn't want to do the off season work(SUMMER LIFTING) with his EX teammates, and didn't play. This was ALL of his OWN choosing. HE walked out on the team and his coaches. Unaka is better off playing the young players who will be there a while. Maby one of the young players will turn out to be the kind of leader they have been missing. Back to the topic, I just don't see much fight in these boys! Maby the young players will take it to heart, I say play them!!!!

  9. I think its funny how everytime something bad is said on here about the coaching at Unaka there is a new screen name created to come to the defense. And to answer your question no I am not on the sidelines and no I do not know what goes on in practice but I have seen alot of basketball and basketball played this year and I can tell you they are by far the worst coached team in this area.

You can make excuse after excuse after excuse about this whole cycle crap that may be true to a certain extent but when you have 3 seniors that are pretty decent ball players a freshman and sophmore class that has players probably with better talent than some of the juniors you have starting and can only win 7-8 basketball games not to mention against teams with losing records than there is something wrong.

Ok big guy/gal, put your money where your mouth is! Let us have it.......give us your starting line up. Names please not class or numbers, real names. Here is your chance, but remember you are the minority on this topic. And to Dr.j , keep posting your last one was great, i'm still laughing!!!!!!

  10. I have been reading this thread for the past couple of days and I find it quiet ammusing how people on the creek think they hold the power to snavely's reign of the head coaching position and the people sitting in the stands owe those 3 men on the sideline something. Unfortuantely thats why we have a school board system to decide who will be the next head coach. Their job is not only to make sure these kids progress in the classroom but your job is to win basketball games as a head coach as well which they have yet to do.

It's just a matter of time before the system hires someone who knows something about the game of basketball and has a good relationship with these kids and can find a ways to win basketball games and make the game fun again.

Unfortunately LASTWORD you speak of how the fans/parents have no say in what goes on at the highschool about the decisions that can be made. You are right! But the schoolboard does and I know for a fact that 2 or 3 of them is not pleased of the way the basketball program is being run up on your so called creek.

But it's just a matter of time before the change will be made on the creek because its not ur decision who stays or go's and the powers of who's hands it ly's in will not stand and let it go on any longer as well.

You're right on one thing, bizzle. It won't last much longer. As a matter of fact, isn't graduation in May? I'd say you're right too, because a coaching change may be made from what I hear. The only problem is that you're looking at the wrong team. This team plays their games at 6:30. You do realize that you're putting yourself in a class with 3D by the way you're speaking. That should say enough, but I'll keep going. People like you and the parents that either A) keep a constant conflict between their son and the coach or /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> try their hardest to get a coach in place that they can coach vicariously through with the sole interest in their son(s) in mind. There's been a long standing tradition in the way that Unaka high school plays basketball, and the afore mentioned have really put a dent in it. So if that was your goal, congratulations. If not, I apoogize.

Striclty opinion, I say to you the same thing I told Wyatt (Earp). It's a PLAYERS game. Snavely can't pass it, catch it, shoot it, rebound it, or defend for them. If your response is going to be is that he's not teaching these things, you might want to step back and take a look, this is basketball 101 you are speaking of. Maybe these board members you so fondly speak of are looking in the wrong direction. These kids should know these things before they get there. Or better yet, just look at Unaka and Hunter Elementary.... just leaving those stones unturned. Exactly how many championships have they won in their entire basketball careers (senior class)? Are we going to point to coaches for that too? Again, since slander keeps popping up on some posts here and there, this is simply a question.

In closing, what Unaka basketball is suffering through right now is nothing more than a virus. It will kill itself just like the body does and become less prone to these types of things happening in years to come.

  11. Slander.....this is when one is directly and falsely accused of doing something and is spread to the public ear (or eyes in this case). It is not slander when someone refers to hearsay (like what the community hears or says). Again... this is not slander. Gossip, maybe, but not slander. There are no accusations in what is said in any post except for the ones that people are posting about Snavely. That, my friend, is slander (oops, you're not my friend.... I'm sorry about that).

First of all, don't act so guilty. I mean, really, it only took you a few hours to respond. Relationships with underage girls was never mentioned, except when you mentioned it. If you're referring to the Mclain quote, didn't texting start the whole thing? Not accusing, just asking a question. From all the chatter from one end of the creek to the other I believe you have your "coach replacement" mixed up.... and again, no slander here... just chatter. It's no secret on which coach your "board" is wanting to replace. Just an opinion, but if I were coach Collins, I would lay very low. He's got enough on his plate at Hunter, which brings me to another question.... where have all of the assistants that have been hired for coach Chambers dissapeared to? Or better yet, will coach Chambers take his assistants with him to Erwin (if the people of Erwin even allow it). By the way, it was 3DGymnasium that brought Kenneth and his assistants into the equation to start with... there's always two sides to every story. Why coach Collins has moved twice? I'm sure if you ask, he will tell.

Now, back to basketball. That is where we want this thing to go, right? I'll stick with my latter post because ultimately players are responsible, but to enlighten you a little further, remember you were the one that wanted to talk basketball. How can a kid function in a world where his (or her) coaches are trying to direct them in one way and parents are directing them in another? What a sad situation for the kid. But what must be realized is that this is not the parents team. Mommy and daddy ball stops at the youth club level for the most part and is completely cut out at the high school level. The real tragedy of it all is that the players under these circumstances never function in a team atmosphere. Teams are very fragile, take for example the Unaka girls. Kayla Winters, arguably one of the best players they have, didn't practice all summer, participated in no camps, was let back on the team and in a very short time moved back in a starting role over a girl that had done just the opposite. Who's rules were broken, his or theirs? Again, not slander, just asking a question. I'll guess (again, just a guess) Ronnie Snavely stays as long as Ronnie Snavely wants to stay. Don't be shocked if he sees this freshman class through.

What Unaka basketball is going through right now is nothing but a bad virus. It will run it's course and things will be better in a matter of time. Like a body does to a virus, it will become more immune to this type of thing happening again.

  12. Lastword since we all know who you are and have such close ties with the program I would expect you to come into the defense for Coach Snavely right or wrong. And you want to talk about Kenneth Chambers and his staff if memory serves me correct they have reached the substate 4 out of the past 5 years with the least talent in the whole entire conference while Ronnie and his staff barely won 9 games last year and is sitting at a 7-15 7-14 record overall season record to go along with his 1-7 conference record.

It's easy to win basketball games when you have the tools my friend but prime example over the past 2 years Ronnie was given a group of kids who wasn't as talented as other teams were in the past and he has let the program slip for trying to jump back in the game after being out of it so long.

And if your so called outstanding coaching staff has watched over the past 2 to 3 years or this year's games they would notice what he puts on the floor 1 senior 2 juniors and the rest are freshman and sophmore but the man still finds ways to win basketball games and the kids love him for that and he gets the most and best out of his kids.

And the man must not be to bad considering Greeneville High,Science Hill, Elizabethton and Hampton has contacted him in the past begging him to take their head coaching position.

And Lastword I am sure snavely is a great guy I know alot of great guys heck my neighbor is a great guy but he would be the first one to tell you he dont have a clue about basketball unlike the click that surrounds that staff up there everyone in the stands and opposing stands know and they see and they hear. knowledge nor no basketball knowledge people know that their staff knows one thing and thats playing hard and that can only get you so far then thats where you have to knows ur x's and o's and by watching Unaka play you can tell that they dont have a clue on the offensive end of the floor.

And Lastword if you have attended any games this year you would realize since you was a coach at one point in your life down 30 ahead 30 in the 4th quarter when the game is over it is over and that means it is time to play the younger kids not leave your starters in. If I am an opposing coach and Snavely pulled a stunt like that I would beat him by 50 points the next time and then you would see how embarrasing it would get and realize that you have to have confidence in your younger players and show them your not just another body or uniform on the bench we have you hear for a reason.

But just keep making excuse after excuse for coach snavely and the others that may work behind closed doors but the fans and people on the outside know its time to make a change and so does the 3 sitting on the sidelines but its pretty gutless when you want to play hero and put these kids in the position they have been in for the past 3 years.

Obviously, but not surprisingly, you're wrong again. First of all, I've seen my fair share of the Rangers play. Not just this year, but in years past and if you think they're playing hard, then obviously you haven't seen as much Ranger basketball as you have claimed to have seen. "55" has it right. It lies in the young men's hands that take the court. Anybody with half a brain (maybe a quarter) knows the modern day kid, even Ronnie Snavely. They try to obtain something with little effort and very little direction (from home) and when they fail, the first place they go running is to mommy and daddy so they can obtain it for them.... something that makes high school sports so great. Because at this level, that can't happen. This is something the folks at home can't obtain for them, and then it causes frustration at home. In reality, it all falls back in juniors lap.

I'll spell it all out really clear and maybe you'll get it this time. Please don't bother with changing user names (be alittle more grown up about it this time). The "good cop" "bad cop" ploy don't work. We have no post game because we have an inadequate senior post player, and we have no guard play because we have inadequate guards. And, our offense is inadequate because of unwillingness between all of the above. ANd what compounds the problem makes it stick out like a sore thumb is the unwillingness that is trademarked Unaka basketball for more than 25 years. This very same thing that all the fans you spoke of that payed five dollars have payed to see..... something called playing hard... playing Unaka Basketball. Couple that with my reference to the way "modern day kids" are and mommy and daddy not being able to get this for them equals the disgusting product that you see on the floor. And I will give you this, I don't see a change until people like you place the responsibility back where it truly lies... back on the players shoulders. If your goal is to slow down progress of Unaka basketball (even though you're not going to stop it) you're doing a fine job. However, keep in mind that through the history of the program there have been groups of parents, players.... people just like you and it has survived this long, just like it will again.

"55".... keep speaking the truth. We need more of it all the way around. And trust me, I'm pretty sure that my opinion is of the majority. And Vader, keep typing whatever makes you sleep at night. If you've kept up with the programs, you know what I'm saying is true, and Cloudland IS 13-12, not 20-2. Hampton DID loose to UH, Cloudland, and took a lucky overtime draw to get by the local tribe from HV. Sleep tight and enjoy your rest because I forsee some sleepless nights in your future. This IS the Last Word.

  13.

Cause back in the 80's, he was a good coach. An amazing coach. His game worked to perfection back in those days. I'm not saying he's a bad coach now. It's just that you can't play the game he wants to play anymore. Plus it doesn't help that he really doesn't have any talent, and he only plays 7, maybe 8, so even if they are doing good, they are wore down by the 4th quarter.

    [/quote

I'll say it for you. He has destroyed what was considered one of the better programs in the state because of his arrogance and his know it all attitude. The talent is there now and it was there last year. That's what happened to Grindstaff and the other kid he kicked off last year. Many have heard the coaches side of the story but talk to those kids that have been dismissed from the team and see what they went through. Oliver was a good kid but you can only take so much. The coach probably got what he wanted. He drove him into quitting too. Now he can play his select prize freshmen which was the intent all along. By playing young kids it takes the focus off losing and the fact that his coaching days are behind him. Everyone is sick and tired of hearing it won't be down long talent is on the way. Talent was there last year and it's there now. It might not be like it was a few years ago but we do have several kids who chan play. They are some good freshmen but we have some seniors, juniors and sophomores in the progam too.

Last night Johnson County put all the subs in during the fourth quarter but not Snavely. I sure he wants those kids to quit too just like Oliver, Grindstaff and the other kid. Imagine if they went out and played well how it might make him look.

They practice all the time and deserved a chance. The team was behind by almost 30 why not let them play?

He don't know how to handle kids because it different now than back in his time. When kids don't want to play for you this is what you get. He was handed down the job without it ever being posted like it should have been. A few people are afraid they might go outside the Stoney Creek area to hire a basketball coach when that's exactly what they should do. The girls don't have a problem winning. Chambers is a good coach and so are his assistants. Cloudland don't have a problem winning and Ned has less talent than Unaka. UH is winning and so is Hampton.

Hopefully a change will be made when this season is over but that is only wishful thinking. If North Greene wasn't horrible our season would be over this week.

It appears through your post (weed), you must have been smoking something before you typed! Your facts are completely wrong. Chambers is a good coach BUT he has ran off 12 to 18 girls over the last several years thus keeping the pressure off himself(your theory). As for his asst. coaches, one was fired for... well....(lack of loyalty from what I gather), the other has been moved twice from previous jobs for reasons I'd rather not mention(McClain ring any bells)? If the girls love coach Chambers so much, why are there only 9 girls in the program(lack of discipline, maybe)? I wonder why you are the only one who seems to think he's the answer.... you ever considered getting back into coaching? Ever consider the pressure that Ronnie Snavely is under? I think you have. And as for subbing, last night was senior night and they showed what kind of seniors they really are. It didn't take much to figure that out by watching (or watching the whole season for that matter), and the "subs" will get their chance. With or without Snavley, they WILL leave a legacy too.

  14. to all the parents who have set in the stands and cussed a good man you are partly responaable for the actions of that crazy woman friday night.some of you get on the pa and talk about good sportsmanship and lay the mic down and become the worst sport in the gym.some are nice to his face then stab him in the back with your words.some go home and say bad things about a man working hard to be a good rolemodle for your son when they should be supportive or say nothing.how canyou expect the young men to reach their potential when they keep getting these mixed signals?

    BINGO!!!!!!!!! maxalt.

  15. there, fixed it for ya /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Not quite, you left out the part about the "GOLD BALL"!!!!!!!!!! The truth is scary!!!!!!! aint it !!!!!!!!

  16. I tell you what. I'm a big guy and I can say what I want to about the evil treacherous creek. Why don't you at least be man enough to tell who you are before you make comments like. Your spineless. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

Why don't you quit trying to avoid the obvious. Unaka WILL be back on top in basketball, (this season is just under way), the football program WILL be turned around and baseball ,well it speaks for it's self. You are becomming to transparent in your post. Your hatred twards Unaka is becomming obvious that it's FEAR of the afore mentioned. If you get a little more nasty with your post you might get kicked off this thread and have your" always built in excuse" to bail you out once again! This WILL happen ,you can't type Hampton or Cloudland out of going through this it WILL happen. You know where the GOLD BALL resides!

  17. This guy is 100% class its just too bad we can??™t say the same about the rest of the creekers. The other creekers would rather sit and point the finger than try to fix their program that is in total chaos right now.

It looks as though the unaka community is well on top of the "real" problem!!!!!!

  18. #1 Rusty I love ya I really do, I know your heart is in the right place

#2 I know you didn't write this, Tim did.

    # 3 "Creeker Calhoun", talk about hiding behind a screenname how many screennames do you have Tim?

#4 Tim does nothing without a reason. If he puts a kids name in the paper he expects something in return.

#5 Sorry Rusty I know you are a good kid, but I know you didn't write this.

And the truth shall set you free!!!!!!!

  19. WOW!!!!!!! I thought the game was well played and well coached! Mr.daddy or Mrs. mommy, maby just maby, little junior should be held responsible for his playing time or lack thereof. The best players played in this game. This is not youth club, grow up mommy and daddy!!!!!!!!! I really really really like where this young talented group of players and coaches are going, it's refreshing to see after last year. Are you sure that you are a RANGER? You don't type like it!!!!!!!!!!

  20. QUOTE(Dawgfan88 @ Mar 27 2007 - 10:05 PM) 826424478[/snapback]As I've said many times before, JR Campbell is the perfect, ideal and best choice for the head coach spot. The guy's a proven winner, and he knows all about the long tradition at HHS in basketball. Len Dugger has too much baggage in his history to deal with, and besides EHS may take him back. I don't want to hear about Buddy Hazelwood being a candidate, because he had his shot and couldn't do it either. Campbell has been outside the school circle enough to not be one of the "chosen inner circle", which has been a real detriment to Hampton athletics in the past several years,I think, and I think we need a fresh viewpoint on how to run a program. JR knows how to get his plyers to play hard, how to win, and I think he's really the only candidate who should be seriously considered at this point.

JUST ONE QUESTION Dawgfan88, And all the folks in Hampton, What championships has J.R. ever won? This is not ment as a cut down, but you don't need someone to just babysit the boys do you? You folks have a rare opportunity, mate sure you get it right! It's my guess the new coach better preform small miricals, after all ,who still has the power and all the pull THINK ABOUT IT !!!!!!

  21. Superman.. what game was you watchin? Roper may have had 30 but every true Ranger fan in the gym knows that he had to step outside of Unaka Basketball to get it. It looked to me like a little daddy ball was going on instead of Ranger basketball.... shoot at all cost. Don't get me wrong... it was a good win, but remember he's a senior and it's his responsibility to lead in the right direction (BY EXAMPLE). If everyone followed his example he would never get a shot off because everyone else would be doing what he does. He's not a complete ball player unless he does the "example part" by playing defense, boxing out, hustling up and down the floor, and the ultimate... getting on the floor for loose balls... something Unaka has always been known for. But Superman, I'm sure that Roper knows this because he's been in the program for four years.

  22. I'm not too sure where to start....

Let's start with tradition. It's simply amazing that someone like you, RANGER87, could make some of the excuses that you have made about the Unaka High School basketball program. You should know what tradition is and always has been.... you've seen it from the outside. Your son wears a silver ring and that must be what has you so upset. Maybe denouncing tradition is the simple fact that you realize you may have a bigger stake in it than what you thought you had (i.e. junior). I will agree that tradition is more than t-shirts, turkey sandwiches and conference titles. It's a RESPONSIBILITY left solely in the hands of the seniors to carry on. Not by wins and losses, but by actions on and off the court. But fear not, it will be once again, because that's the great thing about high school sports.... problems do tend to leave (or graduate). The underclassmen will learn a lesson, beit good or bad, that they will have a choice to right the ship and it has been done in the past. According to the history (i.e. tradition) of Unaka Basketball, it will happen.

There's no doubt about it, these are good boys. Are they going to burn the school down... no. Are they doing drugs... no. Are they going to make the grades... of course. However, basketball is four months and life is year-round. Will these young men find places of employment with no expectations, no pressure to produce, and no tradition to compete to be the best? Sounds like a cozy little job to me (trust me, it doesn't exist, but if it does I would like to know where). Might want to be careful what you wish for, because you might just get it.

As for the two seniors, you're in a tough spot, but no tougher than any senior(s) before you. This team will go as you decide, good or bad. This is the fourth year in the program for both of you, and it's nothing suprising or new. The pecking order doesn't fall your way because somebody decided it should be that way... it is the way it is because life is no different. The responsibility you have is a result of staying in the program. Deal with it.

This is my first and last response to this thread, and I know the Ranger faithful who have been part of the tradition will speak their minds..... if it is even needed now.
