Yea smh that 10 second call was obviously a joke! That charge call that even Ray Charles seen lol called a block , I knew it would get interesting! We know come Friday against Page it will be even more interesting! They want Page & Upperman in the championship, but our plans is to spoil that little plot! #HawkNation

Hope y'all spoil it with authority!

The same thing was said last year when they almost lost to Meigs the first game and then they lost to Granger the next game. I thank any of the four teams left could win it.

I agree any left can..  but; imo, if WV plays to the best of their ability, no team left will beat them.  and if they play average, it will take a great game by any of the other 3 left.

You know that Gatlinburg-Pittman beat Alcoa twice right?

GP vs Alcoa in the championship.

GP doesn't match up well wit WV..  Only saying if Alcoa plays perfect because of the combo of guard and bigs..   In all honesty, I don't think either stand a chance.

York is a good team. No disrespect to them either. You just don’t make that call.

There's only a few people in a basketball game that should always be able to fully control their emotions, that's the referees.  Refs get worse and more emotional with each passing year.  I have a hard time believing that Wilkins said anything that warranted that tech in that situation.  I felt the same way with the stoppage of play call by the ref in the Loretto WV game (when the game was tied at 23).  Neither of these two calls lost the game for GC or Loretto, but both led to a huge momentum swing contributing to the loss.  Ref's just have to be better, but at the same time, we have to execute better to not let that be a deciding factor.

I hate that y'all had to go out like that, but big props to York for putting themselves in a position to be able to capitalize off of it.  Clutch ball handling, ball movement, Defense, and FT's late.

That tech on coach was big!

yep..  unless it was something super egregious, ref should not have made that call in the 4th in a close game at state.

Tough luck GC.  Hate to see y'all exit early.  Big props to York.  Down by 9 at one point, kept your composure and played one heck of a 4th period.

A little more perspective about last night’s loss….just so our players don’t have to field the painful “What happened?” question over and over.

As coaches, we did our due diligence in scouting and formulating game plans for our last two games.  In the last month of our season, we were just missing some of the fire we had earlier.  Going into Wednesday’s Region Championship, we were trying to do some things to get our energy back.  While we did some good things as a team, we just didn’t do enough to get the win.

I want to be transparent about Karly because I have had several people ask.  Karly overheated at halftime of Wednesday’s game.  (She has had this problem occasionally since breaking her nose her Sophomore year).  She was extremely sick and came back out pale as a ghost with no energy.  It was probably a mom fail because I shouldn’t have let her play in the second half.  Karly is a warrior though and has never failed to give her ALL for her team and Wednesday would be no exception.  She had probably not recovered by last night either and I’m kicking myself for not getting her fully rehydrated.  She wasn’t herself.  No one is more disappointed about that than her.  It breaks my heart that she couldn’t finish the way she wanted.  She would never make an excuse, but honestly, her body failed her and her mom failed her.

Now, for the gameplan.  I am so proud of this team for executing our gameplan to perfection last night.  We went to Westview with the plan of taking the 3 point line away from them.  They average taking about 20 three point shots a game.  Every video we had watched of them said that they score mostly from the 3.  Last night, they shot 5 shots from the 3 and didn’t hit any of them.  Held to zero 3’s!!  We needed to limit their 2 leading scorers who averaged 16 points each.  One had 13 and the other 10  They had one player who would shoot from the logo…don’t let her do that.  She didn’t Rebound .  We have preached that offense wins games and defense wins championships…we did the defensive part last night…we just couldn’t generate the offense.  If you had told me that we would only give up 36 points last night, I would have felt good about our chances.

This stings in so many ways.  No one knows how much time these girls have put into trying to achieve the dream of another State Championship.  They have spoiled us all into thinking that it’s just a given that we will make it to State.  If winning State was easy, everyone would be doing it!

I share all of this to ask you to please encourage all of these girls and don’t ask “What happened?”  This Senior class will leave Loretto 112-15, a State Runner Up, a Final Four (Unfinished), a State Championship and a Final 16.  (172-17 in the past 7 years)  They all wanted and expected to win every time they took the floor.  No one is more disappointed than they are and it is definitely not the way they wanted it to end.  This team has honorably continued the Lady Mustang tradition and we should all be proud of them!!!

Alcoa got 2 players eligible a few weeks ago so the Alcoa you saw in the regular season is not the same Alcoa right now… adding a big 6’2 post makes a big difference.

    I'm aware.  Still taking Westmoreland.

What happened with Loretto? We’re they overhyped or just lost steam at the end??

Def not overhyped.  Nov-Jan we were super explosive, played with crazy confidence, and just a different team.  We were the number 1 scoring team in the state (all classes) while playing a very tough schedule.  I can't tell u what happened.  Offensively, we have been on the struggle bus since February.  We scored 25+ more points against suffocating defenses like JSS & Westmoreland (Karly scored about 30 in both those games), but as a team only mustered 30 against a 2-3 zone.  No faith in putting up open 3's tonight.  I thought WV would beat us by 20 if we continued to be out of sync on offense.  Our girls played their hearts out on D to keep the game close.  We just happened to peak in Dec/Jan.  But these girls always put forth 100% and gave us a lot of great memories, and all of Loretto is super proud of them.

WV knew Loretto was explosive and is a great team. Our zone frustrated them, and WV’s plan was to contest #22 and not give her outside space. Jada is still not a 100%, but she’s better than she was on Wednesday. I believe we only took 4 threes tonight which is probably a career low for WV under Haskins tenure, but the drive and dish was there. Neither team was burning threes tonight, and we both missed 5-6 free throws. The Refs called it pretty evenly with 3 or 4 obvious missed calls on both sides. Loretto got robbed on a run out play when a couple of our girls collided and Barr got taken down with a no call from the back, but overall..they let them play physical pretty much both ways. Glad GC won and let’s play one more time next Saturday, if we can get both there.

yeah, that was the one i was referring to as a blatant bad call, we got it to 23-23 right before that happened and had the ball with 5 on 3 in transition and the refs stopped the play, completely changing momentum.  Not sure what the ref was thinking that blew his whistle, but where we're from, we see much more consistent bad calls.   They let a lot of bodying go on both sides, I'd def rather it be called like that than everything down to handchecks being called.  We will be rooting for WV & GC at state from Lawrence Co!

  10. Congrats to WV.  Refs let a lot go on both sides, about the most consistent crew I've seen this year.  Only one blatant bad call.

    Differences in the game:

WV could score in the paint & Loretto could not.  Loretto tried to avoid blocked shots by Barr & altered driving shots instead of driving up into them to initiate contact.  Loretto had a TON of open 3's and consistently hesitated and passed instead of shooting.  Loretto lacked confidence and continued in their decline since January.  Karly was far from herself, but hit some big shots to keep WV from blowing it open.  Loretto was able to hit some 3's, and were able to turn Jada & WV over more than any other team I've seen against WV this year.  Loretto also took away WV's 3 point shots.  Loretto was way off offensively and was able to keep it pretty close in a great environment for WV.  WV had a great gym and better fanbase.  Congrats!

  11. As those of us in Loretto travel to WV and those of us in GC travel to Summertown, I'd like to wish everyone safe travels.  For the coaches, I pray for each of you to make the best decisions to give your teams their best chance at success.  For the players, I pray that each of you play free of injury, to the best of your ability, and have a great time while representing your town.  For the fans, I pray that none of you throw drinks at the refs because; well lets be honest, I'm sure they're going to make a lot of bad calls (or lack thereof).  lol

But seriously, after tonight, 2 teams are going to be heartbroken.  And for those two teams, hold your heads high!  These are 4 of the 5 best teams in AA.  Be proud of how you've played this year!

Best of luck to everyone in Sectionals tonight!

What a whiney little baby! Because someone has a different opinion than you then he must be drunk? Typical "chat room bully" that can't stand a different point of view.

Thank you, you nailed this guy.  Look at all his posts and he’s the guy that hides behind a screen name and blasts kids.

I'll be at the game in Martin tonight if either of you would like to chat about me being a "whiney little baby" or how I "hide behind a screen name".

having a difference of opinion is fine.  @LetsGoBrandon and I have had a difference of opinion respectfully, as have I with a few others.  Greenfieldfan has posted a lot of crazy stuff over the years and I've never called him out.  But his reference to Louisville and Bama and downplaying Karly because of her going to play for the school she's loved since she was a child was an ignorant assessment, and I called him on it.

Please look through any of my posts over the years and show me where i've blasted kids or talked bad about any player.  It's never happened.  I called him drunk because of that reference as well as previous posts, but you 2 resorted to name calling and attempting to bash my character by saying I bash or talk bad about kids.  Lets have a chat in person tonight at the game about that.

I don’t guess you watched the SEC or Big Ten Tournaments last night. Tess had 12 pts and Chloe 7 pts and both played great games. You must be a hater, you wont find a better girl on and off the court than Tess or Chloe.

I like Karly but don’t run our girls down to build Karly up. She can stand on her own merits and a great family. Good luck tonight should be a great game, may the better team win. Don’t hate on our girls.

Tess and Chloe were/are great ballplayers, and from what i've heard, even better people.  I would love for you to extract the phrasing from my post that led you to believe I was hating on any 3 of these young women and make sense of that.  You are absolutely ridiculous.  You made an absolutely asenine reference as to why Jada is better than Karly with your Louisville/Alabama nonsense.  I called you out on it, and also referenced that Karly outplayed your hometown stud duo as a freshman.  None of that was hate or disrespect, it was pure observation of what happened.  Are you still drunk?

Karly Weathers vs Jada Harrison - I'll take Jada.

Louisville Cardinals say Jada is better.

Alabama says Karly's better, that tells me enough.

Home game for Westview - enough said.

I will take Westview in a close one.

I thought all year it was Loretto's year but they shouldn't have lost and had to come to Martin.  Now Westview is the favorite.

That comparison is so ignorant.  I wonder if you're drunk half the time you get on Coacht with some of these crazy posts you put on here.

Karly was also offered by TN as a freshman, Alabama wasn't her only offer (numerous major D1 offers)..  had she not committed over the summer, she'd be flooded with more.

Karly played against Tess & Chloe at state as a freshman and was the best player on the court.  Jada is a stud, no doubt.  Her ball handling is probably a tad better than Karly's, probably a tad quicker, but other than that Karly has been better at every other part of the game against as good or better competition.  I guess we'll find out Tomorrow.  Hope they both play to the best of their ability!  Gonna be an exciting game.
