  2. Oh, okay... that explains the "dull scissors" comment. You and Liddy may have more on common than decent political views  huh? Maybe, ahhhh...1974? Remember what indicates a weak position or cause in any discussion... Be Positive! :thumb:

Som - I liked you better when you were on the meds.

  3. There was some dicussion with Chuck but a deal couldn't be worked out. He wanted to bring Cheryl Tieg in as Cheerleader Coach.

Although, Tim Tebow has been signed to long term deal in the event the NFL doesn't work out. He will be in charge of pre and post match speeches. His title will be Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.

  4. You guys don't know anything. Here's the rumored coaching staff;

Steve Logston - Head Coach - Instruction, Motivation

Cliff Ramos - Associate Head Coach - Scheduling and Fund Raising

Eric Phillips - Associate Head Coach - Instruction

    Hank Raines - Assistant Coach - 103, 112, 119

  7. ......and I thought the Saints winning the Super Bowl was a sure sign of an impending world apocalypse. Now this. A completely readable, understandable and intelligent post by Sommers. we should all start hoarding food and guns.

Soms - The jury is still out on you but you are correct, the Seymour coach should be and needs to be recognized for his decision.

For all those that missed it......Kennedy was wrestling Seymour's 189. Mike picked him up and slammed him. It WAS NOT an illegal slam IMO, but it was a hard slam. The ref dropped to the mat and began to count backpoints. The ref recognized the wrestler was hurt and stopped the match for injury time. He then signaled the slam was illegal. I repeat, he didn't call the slam illegal when it happened but only after the match was stopped. The Seymour wrestler couldn't continue which be rule means Kennedy is DQ'd. At the point when injury time expires the coach has the option to forfeit the match instead. He did this and has earned my respect forever.

The ref, on the other hand.............

  8. Whine, whine, whine.

Here's a news flash. Starting a program is hard! It takes work. Why don't we just give out 10 state championship trophys? Now we have good PR for 10 schools!!!!

People, please don't shoot from the hip. Let's look at the FACTS, not your assumptions.

True, participation in GA has gone up more than TN. True, they have multiple state champs. But why would any logically person automatically ASSUME that is why participation has increased?!

Georgia's population has increased 26% over the last 15 years! TN population 16%. The same is true of Florida (24% population growth).

Do you know when TN had the greatest number of participants? 1994.

What this boils down to is this. "Let's give all the kids a smiley face so they can feel good about themselves"

Do you know how many state champions there were then? ONE!

I'm too tired to dig up the numbers but I have them. Tennessee wrestling is growing slower than the adjoining states with multiple divisions even when those statistics are adusted for population growth/new school construction.

There's too many people in this state who feel the most important issue is finding out who has the biggest and baddest dog. They care more about how it used to be, egos and pointing out the problems rather than finding a path which leads to growth and prosperity.

Everyone should probably start adjusting to the thought of a Small School Division. It's going to happen. It may be a few years but it's gonna happen. There is too many folks in favor of it and I am one of them.

  9. Here's my picks. I couldn't do what Bray did and just pick the favorites. :D Plenty of Darkhorses in my list.

  10. Hmmmmm. It's a good question but a hard question to answer.

    Let's look at the criteria Nainten suggested;

    # HS Programs - Georgia has 5 classes. It certainly encourages participation but does not necessarily insure quality.

    # Nationally ranked HS Programs - Certainly no offense to Collins Hill or Brandon, FL but national rankings of a few teams can't be a measuring stick. Example... Brandon and Collins Hill are ranked higher than any team in Iowa. In fact, there are no Iowa teams ranked in the Top 25. Does that make Florida and Georgia better than Iowa?

    # Division I wrestlers - This is the measurement I use mostly because it's easy to get the data....but it really isn't a good one. Tennessee has 6-7 million people and Florida has nearly 20 million. They should be putting more into Division I wrestling programs.

    # Division I and DII All Americans - Another decent measurement but not really because it is more a measurement of the Great wrestlers a state produces and not of the general quality of wrestling across the state.

    # NCAA Qualifiers - See above

    # Nationally Ranked HS Wrestlers - See above

The BBBL (BayouBear Bottom line) is this ---- The quality of wrestling in a state is reflected by the quality of the top "tier" of teams and the best and only measurement I ever came up with was to visualize matches between the Top 5 or 10 teams of one state versus the top 5 or 10 teams from another state. For example; take Baylor, Bradley, Christian Brothers, Cleveland and Father Ryan and put them up against Collins Hill, Pope, Camden County, Loganville and Gilmer (just a guess RMC). 1's versus 1's, 2's versus 2's and so on. This would give you a quick and fairly accurate indication of the quality of each state.

Where would Tennessee stand versus all other Southern states using this method? I think at or near the top in most years.

jcddmoon - I'm very aware the youth program is thriving and I too am hopeful of a bright future for Tennessee wrestling.

What we really need is more college wrestling in Tennessee and the other southern states. One of the big reasons why some states are better than others is the number of college programs in those states. Those programs graduate wrestlers every year and many go into coaching. The high school coaching spots fill up with ex-college wrestlers and then it filters down into the middle schools and the clubs.

  11. .....Only because you must be friend of Bayou Bear , I'm going to let you in on a place....... the biggest one of us, who is always testing out his feminine side, .........

    Buck...couple of things.

Yes, Dabears is a friend and I think he's trying to get in touch with his femine side too.

BUT, I need to remind everyone ...... IT'S A WRESTLING TOURNAMENT!!!!! Drive all night, sleep in the car, wake up freezin', watch wrestling all day and night, sleep in closest place with a vacancy, eat crappy free motel breakfast, watch wrestling all day and night, drive all night getting home. THAT's WRESTLING...Real Man Style.

You guys are carrying on like a bunch of soccer moms. It won't be long before someone is going to ask for the best place to buy juice boxes and snacks.

  12. Why all of the arguing? What happened to the day's when one coach would tell all of the other coaches to "place my kid where you want in the bracket" he will win the tournament no matter where he is placed. People are getting much too soft!!!

cbg - It still happens. BUT then all the other coaches argue to get their kid on the other side of the bracket.

  14.

Bayou, if you have access to a computer in that N'Awlins jail and can get this, once you can lay your hands on a schedule for next year's Bradley matches, please forward it to my attention via this board. I want to see if I should use those two free seats you put up at next year's Bradley- Cleveland AAA duals final or exercise my option to use them during the regular season. Over on another topic, you said that while EBE and TBSFBAG are out of the question, the door is not closed for this year's D-II dual champions to be Fodder Ryan for your hungry Bears next season. If that happens, that is when I will want those two tickets.

Congrats on the double dip this weekend, BB. Since you have been spoiled with championships by the Bears, I've gotta ask--------as a long-suffering Saints fan, was the championship last night the sweeter of the two? Be truthful now----and don't take the easy road by saying your blood runs black and gold, since that is both team colors

    ----- Guru Buck -----

    Greetings from the Crescent City.

You are the man. The East Lit victory in the first round was like a broadside torpedo. I didn't have a chance. So you know I'm a man of my word, you can attend any or all BC matches next year on me (prior notification necessary). On a potential FR-BC match....let's wait and see if 'In Hoc' can work his magic.

Winning Championships never gets old. Sweeter of the two? I have to go with the Saints. Been waiting my entire life for that one.

  15. Well good for you, but they haven't answered my questions so obviously your questions were SO GOOD  Why won't they wrestle any good D-II teams, especially THE EVIL RED EMPIRE (Baylor) why EXCUSES

I'm going to try civility one last time. Here are the facts you need to know.

We have NEVER refused to wrestle ALL DII schools. We ceased wrestling McCallie after the split and have no plans to resume. We wrestled Baylor every year and they attended our tournament through the 2001 season but we have no immediate plans to resume wrestling Baylor.

As far as the other DII schools are concerned...We used to wrestle CBHS at the Cleveland Duals most every year. We've wrestled Father Ryan a few times over the years when our paths have crossed. We wrestled Notre Dame in duals many times and they attended our tournament every year while they were in DII.

If you'd like to see BC wrestle Baylor or McCallie, it's not going to happen. However, if you'd like to see Father Ryan or MBA or CBHS wrestle BC, why don't you try and make it happen, since it seems to be so important to you. It hard to work out duals between teams from different areas of the state because of the travel involved but as motivated as you seem, you may be able to work it out.

One last thought......One of your Purple buddies "outed" your identity to me at the State Duals. Do me a favor.....Ask around and find me at the traditional tournament. There are lots of folks who know me. I'll take the time to explain what I have posted here in greater detail. Know this too....We are not a bunch of Black and Gold monsters with a grand plan. We're just regular people who love wrestling and the very funny thing is.....We are very much like Father Ryan, people love to hate on us and that's OK too.

  18. Geez. Here you go using facts again. Haven't I proved time and again, facts will destroy a good thread.

All the victories run together. It must have been 2007. I was presented a trophy by the Chattanooga branch of the Bearcat Brown Fan Club.

Buck - I'm still waiting on you. To make it interesting, if you win I'll save you 2 seats in the Bradley Section during the finals (if BC makes it). I'll also contact the BCB fan club and try to arrange a trophy presentation. I also received a 21 day cruise and the use of a Cadillac for a year. I'll see if those are available to you but, they probably gave those to me because it was me.

I'll post my complete picks on the other thread.

    Good Luck (you'll need it)

    BB

  19. I only subscribe to the weekend edition of the Times-Free Press so I had to have someone else check the obits and I'm told there was no mention of Bearcat Brown. Therefore, we can only assume he was kidnapped and sold into slavery overseas. This time next week he could possibly be the headline act in a Mongolian desert comedy club performing dog tricks for some Khan. He might have been fortunate enough to be taken to a Cambodian martial arts jungle training center to master the "Come Get Some" style of mixed martial arts.

It's also very possible he was buried in a Hixson backyard (by an irate homeowner catching him peeking in his daughters window) and reincarnated as Nick Gulas.

Regardless, we should have a period of mourning. About 15 seconds should be long enough.
