  1. It might be time for Shaq to go back to umpiring full time. His Eaglettes pounded my Tullahoma girls 10-0 in five innings last night and hit three homers in the process. Jamie Johnson allowed only one hit, a first-inning single by Lady Wildcat catcher Megan Grenier. Congrats to the Eaglettes and coach Digianfelice, one of my favorite people in the world.

  2. Coach Olive had some interesting comments about some of Columbia's players on his TV show Saturday morning, especially Goff. He said he was talking to a "major" recruiter a couple of weeks ago, and the subject of Goff came up. The recruiter said the biggest problem with Goff was his lack of size (meaning height). Olive said he told the recruiter people were saying the same thing about Vincent Harris out of Georgia several years ago, and he wound up getting a chance at Auburn where he became a two-time All-SEC player. He said he told the recruiter he thought Goff was the same kind of player. His size doesn't matter so much because he's just a great football player, and some D-I school should give him a chance.

Olive also had high praise for the big lineman, Mason, saying he was the best the Wildcats faced this season. In addition, he said the Lions have another lineman (the name escapes me) who is "very good."

Columbia is the only team this year that seemed to have the Wildcats physically whipped in the second half of their game earlier in the season. Of course, that was an entire season ago (10 games) and Tullahoma is a much better team now than they were then. The same appears true for Columbia. After sputtering at times the first half of the season, the Lions appear to be really hitting their stride. I hear the Lions are throwing the ball much better these days. On the other hand, the Wildcats can still throw it and are running it much better than they could in the earlier meeting. Should be a great one. I wish it was Friday night.

  3. I only got to see her play during Playdays, but I couldn't take my eyes off her when she was on the court. One of the best all-around high school players I've seen. Good to see she is off to a good start at Texas. I was really hoping Vanderbilt would get her, but at least she didn't go to the Lady Vols....lol

  4. The Tullahoma Wildcats, 7-3 on the season, got awarded a #2 seed and will host the White Co Warriors Friday nite with kick-off at 7pm. The Cats won the District 8AAA championship last nite with a 27-7 win over Lawrence Co. It is my understanding that Tullahoma would play their first 3 playoff games at home if they continue to win. Also Tullahoma will host Maryville in their first regular season game in 2011. White Co went to Crossville and got a big win over Cumberland Co Friday nite. Tullahoma doesn't need to look ahead on a possible rematch with Lawrence Co in round #2. The Cats will have their hands full with a White Co team that may be peaking at the right time. Lawrence Co hosts a good Cleveland team in the first round.

If Columbia wins its fist two games, won't they be the home team in round three against whoever comes out of Tullahoma's side of the bracket?

  5. Could someone share how the Sharpton kid is doing? I have heard he is finished for the year but I was wondering if this is true. I was also wondering about the Burks kid. I know he was hurt in the Lincoln County game and have not heard anything. I do hope these kids are both OK!!

Sharpton has a shoulder separation. Won't play tonight for sure but not entirely ruled out for rest of season. Burks is starting to run but no contact. Again, won't play at Siegel but jury still out on next week. To add to the problem, Montrel Berry is having back problems and is not expected to play tonight, so the Wildcats will be down to third running back, Shaquille Harris. Derek Boles might also get some carries but he has been unable to practice this week, so who knows. A couple of linemen are also banged up but expected to play tonight.

I'm sure Siegel has some injuries, too. It's that time of year. The Wildcats were very lucky most of the season with the exception of Tray Burks injury. Now, they're all coming at once.

  6. Good game last night FC made a few base running mistakes to shorten innings. Lester gets a hit through the hole into right and advances a Sells to third and then what appears to be a high overthorw of the cut-off is snagged and Lester is easily thrown out at 2nd for two outs. Also, the pick at first of Henshaw was big as I think is helped Tullahoma maintain their momentum. And some "what if plays" might have changed the complexion of the game. One being after a swinging bunt put a runner at first, and then if Moss can come up with Milleville's flyball down the right field line, that would have been a huge play. But he had to go about a mile to get to it and still got a glove on it, and it lands about a foot fair. Then Honea rips a double to score both, was for me the big difference in the game as both pitchers pitched great. Plus, Tullahoma is up 2-1 with bases loaded in the third, I think, with one out and only plates one, which I think was could have been a bigger inning. If Tullahoma had at least plated another two runs could have taken all the air out of our sail.

Cody Hill, Franklin County's center fielder, made a spectacular catch in left center field to end that bases-loaded threat in the third inning. Hats off to him. You won't see many better plays at the high school level. Also, the right fielder almost made a play that good on Milleville's fly ball down the right field line. Just couldn't snag it after running forever to get there. Tullahoma didn't make spectacular plays but was rock solid on defense all night. Just a good game all the way around.

  7. District 8-AAA tried something similar to this a few years ago, and it made no more sense then than it does now. The bottom line is, you were better off losing in Friday night's opening round than you were winning. Of course, Friday night's winners had a chance to pull upsets Saturday and make the system pay off for them, but you shouldn't set up a bracket anticipating upsets. Franklin County and Lawrence County (Friday's winners) will have to play for the third day in a row and go much deeper into their pitching staff today than Friday night's losing teams, Lincoln County and Shelbyville.

  8. Tie Breaker is the run difference between the teams tied right? Tullahoma would be +7 in that category.

You are right. At least, this is what coach White told me last night before the game, and I'm pretty sure he is on top of the situation. Columbia and Tullahoma have the byes.

  9. I have posted Franklin County's schedule, results and roster. The Lincoln County game is actually tomorrow night. This past weekend the Rebels were at the Wilson County Tournament and finished 2-1. They beat Wilson Central 2-1, lost to Ravenwood 5-6 and beat Gallatin 5-3.

Yep. District baseball games are Tuesday and Wednesday. Thanks for posting the schedule, and good luck to the Rebels this season. You guys have about a thousand years of coaching experience.

  10. Sounds to me that Lebanon needs to practice a little more before they want to scrimmage. There is NO way any good came out of that beating for Lebanon. That is not right at all. Also how old are the Sheffields for Tullahoma. My brother played in the little league state championship with Lawrence Co. against the little Justus. Wanting to know what grade he is in.

The oldest Sheffield boy (Jordan) is a freshman this year. Justus is still in the 8th grade.
