  1. I saw five QBs listed on the 2016 roster on the web site. That didn't include Odom or Barge that have played the position before. Who played QB in the scrimmages?
  2. Funny. Was thinking the same thing. Next thing you know he'll be sneaking around taking pictures of electric meters and sending them to the TSSAA.
  3. Interesting. Saw that in the DNJ as well.
  4. Isn't there a scrimmage coming up?
  5. We'll have to disagree on that just a bit. Even while the search was ongoing we all agreed (well, almost all) that it would take some time to get the program back where we want it. All I hope to see this year is improvement, and I'm not talking about the W-L record. I'm talking about participation, organization, facilities, promotion, competitiveness, and all the little details that lead to the above. Not ruling out an improved W-L but it will require some good fortune early in the year.
  6. I fixed my post due to sensitivities. Any insights into the other two questions?
  7. Riverdale's not getting much love from anybody. Seems the feeling is that Coach K inherited a program running on empty. Read that the RB (Young) that was hurt last year is going to miss all of this season too. Is that correct? In the opening game at MTSU, is Riverdale the first or second game that day? Edited to remove the name that shall not be spoken.
  8. Baylor has a long road ahead. Let's keep him in our prayers as long as it takes.
  9. Tell me more about #10. What's the story? See an updated 2016 spring roster on the web site (thanks David). Total of 85 players out for spring which is a really good first step in the right direction. Hard to play football without players. 23 seniors. Good but not great. Will be hard to get some guys back out for just one year. Three kickers, a senior and two sophomores. Good. We don't have a long snapper identified on the roster. Such an important position. Hope we're identifying long snappers for the future just like we do kickers. Who's going to be the QB? See five QBs on the roster but don't really know anything about any of those guys. Just 26 guys identified as linemen. Again good, but would like to see a few more of those guys. Who has insight?
  10. It does seem that it would be best to focus on the immediate future right now. Am I reading correctly that we've hired a super double-secret strength coach that can't be identified? What will happen if the players leak that info to their parents? When does spring practice start?
  11. Hard to view that as anything but a positive. Go Warriors!!
  12. Here's hoping that Coach K brings a lot more life and energy than the bunch of "whatever happens happens and the coach has no control" posters that have jumped on this thread. I assure you that's not the Riverdale I saw under Coach Rankin. They made things happen. Hoping that Coach K is the kind of personality that influences what happens. If you build it they will come. If I was in charge of the world I would have consulted with my SID before an announcement was made and even sought his input on the best way to handle it. The way it happened just seems a bit dysfunctional to me. Details are important.
  13. Thanks Riverdaleman. Your comments carry a lot of weight since we all know how much you care about the program.
  14. As noted there are exceptions. One of the interesting assertions in the research I read was that defensive guys can't seem to help meddling in the offense when they move up but that offensive guys have little interest in getting involved with defense. They just hire someone to handle that. I love Mcdaniel but thought his offenses were pretty bad...really his teams' only weakness. Don't know about Hester.
  15. No announcement of the hire on the Riverdale web site. Information is crucial to promoting the program. Hope this issue can get fixed. Side question. Has Aydelott physically left Riverdale and moved on to his new job?
  16. We've all known this was a possibility and have discussed it earlier on this thread. Really hope that Coach K can get it done and everybody supports him. Just some random thoughts: Spring practice starts 4/19 Per the DNJ, Nolan had around 50 applications for the job. Only time will tell if he made the right choice...pretty clear that he made the easy choice. Coach K is young, comes from a coaching bloodline, and could be around for a long time if successful. Pretty much a high risk, high reward kind of hire. Coach K was the defensive coordinator last year that gave up and average of 45 points per game in three games with Blackman and Oakland. Statistically, offensive coordinators have been more successful when moving up to the head job than defensive coordinators (at least in college). Read a really interesting article about this once and there are some very notable exceptions. Coach K's quotes in the DNJ really spoke to his enthusiasm and that he understands the opportunity he's been given. His enthusiasm has never been in question. He's a head coach now. Need to get rid of the Will Muschamp personna and become more Nick Sabanish. Your a head coach now...a good plan will outlast emotion. We'll know a lot real soon. Will he clean out the dead weight around the coaching staff and how will he fill the open OC and DC roles. Can he get the kids out for spring practice. Honestly, he'll get more scrutiny than an established, successful head coach would have received. He has some very tough calls to make right out of the gate and needs to make the right calls and hires. It's tough to come into a high expectation job surrounded by low expectations for success. It's really all upside for Coach K from here if he can get it done. Good luck Coach K!!!
  17. I'm the exception here...I love a good ball-control offense. However, to take that approach you have to have a strong commitment to defense and special teams (Aydelott's downfall). You can't win it all with that kind of offense unless you're controlling field position. Tell me more about Pemberton's defenses and special teams. He seems to have a hard time committing to a program based on how much he's moved. From my perspective Brentwood to Rhea County isn't a move up...so what happened? When making hiring decisions in business, a stable, progressive work history is really important. I can hear it now...Musso left, Musso right, Musso up the middle.
  18. That would be interesting. I would be uneasy with him taking over but doesn't mean that he couldn't do it. Has he ever been around a successful program that was doing the right things and was headed in the right direction? Who is Pemberton? Where is he now?
  19. Turning around or new direction, I want to see a new guy that can produce the following: 1. Get the kids back out and participating in football. 2. Develop players. It should be rare when the team relies on incoming freshmen and transfers to be competitive. It should always be next man up. Love transfers, they make your team better, but they should not be the only reason your team is competitive. 3. Get the facilities back up to a level that makes everyone proud. 4. Let freshmen be freshmen and sophomores be sophomores. Some will be good enough but it shouldn't be the result all the upper classmen leaving the program. 5. Hire the best available assistants. Embrace talented coaches don't be afraid of them. 6. Value strength and conditioning. 7. See #6 8. Promote the program. Promote the program and be creative. 9. Schedule to develop your team. 10. Embrace the Riverdale tradition. I'm sure there are more and those aren't in any particular order.
  20. Who else is a possible candidate that makes sense. Coach K Rector Read he took the job at Father Ryan White McDaniel -- wishful thinking here Britton Carson Scharsch Tab Vowell Who else?
  21. Need to find the right guy and get him on board. There is a lot that can be done immediately by a guy with the right drive and commitment.
  22. Where is he now and why did he leave Jackson Northside?
  23. Funny, just a few years ago people were saying the same thing about Alabama. Most people don't even remember those days now. The right coach can make or break a program pretty quickly.
