  1. Of course White County wants to play, they have nothing else to play for. Macon  on the other hand has a huge game with Livingston coming up on Friday. The winner gets a home playoff game and a much better shot of advancing in the playoffs. If I am coaching Macon, no way I play this game between now and Friday and chance of losing a player to injury, getting someone banged up, or losing a day of preparation for Livingston is too much of a risk. If the shoe was on the other foot, White County wouldn’t be too eager to play either.

  2. Congrats to Chad. I am a bit surprised by the hire, but he will do well. I was a reference for him at one of his first jobs and he hasn’t let me down yet. After watching Gallatin this year, discipline and line play seemed to be their biggest weakness. Coach Watson will improve both of those areas, so I look for Gallatin to be much improved.

I just hope that since you read all through this thread, that not one Gallatin Football fan has said one negative thing about MJ, Perry's, Abner, Grimes, Grah, your Mascot, etc.

Maybe not negative, but if you read through it is pretty clear some Gallatin people did not want Perry at all.

Just got a text from someone who works at the school. Today could be a historic day in Wave history if they decide to announce. Great choice in my opinion which should put us in Cookeville next year.  Go Wave!

Wow! This guy is already being setup for failure. Pump the brakes a little.

Dont think they would be very patient, he is part of "the staff" that lost games! Again, better be ready to make some changes to staff or are we laying it all on Williams!

    GO WAVE!

You may be right, but he got there in August of this year so not sure how much he really had to do with everything. I would think he may have a unique insight on what went wrong and what changes need to be made to get it right.

I believe Wilson to be an enthusiastic, good coach. Did good job at Macon with one outstanding player! Don't know if he ever won a playoff game? Help me here will? Seems to be good man! DON"T think it will go over well!

Perry will cause a split in school and community( cant see it)! A no go with Old school folk

We all know why they will not go Metro!  Woods/Brunetti very capable

UNLESS there is a surprise candidate, NOT LOOKING GOOD, AGAIN!!

    GWAVE has it been offered?

    GO JACKETS! and WAVE!

Wilson won a road playoff game in 2016 then ran into the buzz saw that is Pearl Cohn. I saw what he did with less talent/speed, so I would love to see what he could do if he had multiple weapons. I am pretty sure he had a winning record at Macon, which is not something any other coach can say in the last 35-40 years.

You could probably make the same argument for several coaches in the state, but make no mistake Wilson took the Gallatin job with plans to move up into the 5A/6A ranks as a head coach. He is a great leader, sound coach, and a disciplinarian. Macon did not give him the support needed to run a true program. If Gallatin will support him, he will win games the right way.

I couldn't see him ever leaving Springfield for another high school.   He's in his dream job at his Alma mater.

I agree, which is why I suspect he didn’t apply. If all the names mentioned are accurate, then Gallatin will end up with a quality coach. I didn’t necessarily think that was the case at the start of the process, so I will admit I was wrong on that front.

Well what's the difference of when the other coaches you've mentioned gets beat in the playoffs? They just got beat by a better team? They still are great coaches? Cut the bull I honestly think y'all don't think an African American coach will be welcomed in Gallatin. Cause you continue to talk about metro coaches and they have accomplished more than the guys you've named even Perry . So cut the crap about metro coaches would be a down grade. Their days is 10x harder than a Macon county , trousdale , or Sumner county day . So don't discredit their coaching . I know of one of the metro coaches that interviewed got the job , Gallatin kids  would run through a wall for him and they would get better instantly . Coaching is relationships , x/o s , and culture . Which is what's needed in Gallatin . Good luck to Gallatin on the search . Some of you guys are idiots

I will put it like this, give some of those coaches the talent Brunetti or Broome had at a 3A/4A level and there would at least be a silver ball in the trophy case. I have watched Pearl lose for 4-5 straight years in the playoffs with superior talent.  An African American may be just what Gallatin needs to reach the kids on a personal level, but I can promise from a pure coaching standpoint Broome or Brunetti would be downgrades from Williams.

I don't think Gallatin folks will care what his last name is if he wins. Oakland, Maryville, and Whitehaven became power programs under coaches who had little experience as HC  at the time they took over (Quarles, McDaniel, and Saulsberry). Same goes for programs like Beech and Knox Central. Hire the best fit, not who will make the biggest headlines

I agree, but if you will read some previous posts the Gallatin faithful has blatantly said “No” to a couple of names thrown out. If they are the best “fit” or not it is concerning when people do that before a hire is even made. Support the coach and staff and success will follow. That is true just about anywhere, but it takes true support and not just lip service.

  10. 1 minute ago, MidTennFootball said:

And how many of those 31 wins were against crappy competition? Alot of them. I give full credit to MJ for a great season in 2018, but that doesn't make Perry any better than the other applicants

I wouldn’t say crappy , but not a juggernaut schedule for sure. He has beaten all the teams in Sumner/Wilson counties the last two years. Beat Blackman this year and gave Oakland all they wanted with inferior talent. I am speaking more to the big name/splash hire. I know there are “good” coaches on the list I had above, but I am not sure the Gallatin faithful will be happy with those. If you hire Perry, nobody can say Gallatin  didn’t try.

I don’t know why he’d want to leave Mt. Juliet for Gallatin.

People I know in Wilson County say the new school is splitting the Mt. Juliet zone and he will lose some athletes. Also heard he may consider just moving to the new school once it opens. Coaches go where the talent is.

  12. 2 minutes ago, GWAVE1 said:

You have to know the history.

I will admit I do not know his personal history with Gallatin. I do know that Mt. Juliet is 31-5 the last three years in the states highest classification and was hands down the second best team in 6A this year. If there are others better than this to apply let’s hear them.

I have heard: Perry, Watson, Wilson, Waggoner, Brunetti, Broome.

Hendersonville has more vehicle break ins and robberies than any other Sumner County City, being that it is right next to Davidson County. Yet I never see anybody speaking openly about Hville? Every city has its highs and lows. Davidson County has murders every day of the week. Yet I don't see you guys posting negatively towards their schools? Why are you guys singling out Gallatin? The entire Sumner/Wilson County area is nice, which is why they are both the top 5 wealthiest Counties in Tennessee.

But once again as I have pointed out earlier in this thread if people would read it, is why does this even pertain to anything with winning? Oakland is not in a super rich area. Whitehaven is not. Henry County is not. Hillsboro, Pearl Cohn, & Trousdale definitely is not. But hey Brentwood is, so where is their Gold Ball? Since Rich areas are the ones that have success? .......

Greatone you are missing the point. I think Gallatin can win. The other schools you mentioned have “other” factors assisting their success. If the community/administration will buy in and help, it can be done. Pearl is a magnet and co ops with MLK. Whitehaven is a magnet. Oakland might as well be a magnet, as they get 75% of the best kids coming out of middle school, not to mention the transfers from Siegel and others. Henry County is the only option in town.

I think JimB and I are on the same page. We both would like to see Gallatin win and we both think it can be done. The difference is, we think it may take more than just a big time coach to accomplish this and that there are limiting factors that are outside a coaches control. Heck I am from Macon County, but I can speak open and honestly on our issues. It is what it is.

Finally the reason there are more car break ins in Hendersonville is because everyone knows you would come up empty if you broke into a car in Gallatin. If you are wanting to steal, you go to a place that has money to steal...

This thread is so full of crap it isnt even funny. I think you all make decent points at times, but much of the info in here is so meaningless.

I have lived in many different cities since I graduated before I bought my house (in Gallatin by the way)

I have lived in Hendersonville, Gallatin, Lebanon, Providence Mount Juliet, & near downtown Nashville. I can tell you, Gallatin is BY FAR the most quiet, peaceful place I have lived. The only sort of big city where "Everybody Knows Everybody". I dont get why all of you are jumping on Gallatin, trying to rub sh** on their name, while acting like everybody else is just all Roses. People can't stand the thought of Gallatin Football possibly being a household name again.

The fact you are getting so defensive tells me something. Lebanon is far worse than Gallatin, I will give you that. I am not too happy with what my area is becoming right now and we are getting the overflow from Gallatin. Again, I could be completely wrong on Gallatin, but I am telling you what the perception is. The Station Camp, Hendersonville, and Beech area is nice. The rest of it is sketchy at best. I used to go to the bowling alley frequently with my family. We now keep riding and head to Hendersonville.

Wilson is happy where he is at.  Just ask him.  Nobody on staff is on the final list.

And you need to drive around Gallatin more before making the assumption that no building is going on besides SC, Beech and Cottontown.

Wilson applied and interviewed, so you tell me...

Remember, I never said Creasy was my Favorite so that pulls no wt with me. 4a should beat 1a! I like Wilson, think he is good coach, bbut not what is needed at present! Do not know Watson.  I thought everyone said alot of big names had applied (so where are they) Perry, Wilson, Watson NOT what I call big name successful coaches. Perry about to be ran out of town before they not he turned it around!

    GO JACKETS! AND WAVE!

Perry is the only “big name” I have heard, other than the metro coaches. Those guys have had some success, but I think they are winning with superior talent and losing in the playoffs once they run up against teams with similar talent and better coaching.

I am not pessimistic, REALISTIC! TCHS is my team, but as I have said before I have an interest in Green WAVE football! Probably give more support than many on here over course of 40+ years and will continue to do so regardless of coach! I unlike others on here am NOT a coach basher! NOT MY WAY!!! I will not blindly follow a few who are on here with a different opinion than mine! If little johnny can't get it done then it has to be the coaches fault, so lets get rid of him! I supported williams and will support the NEXT coach, even when he starts getting blame for no Championship! This all started because of jealousy of other schools in the county!I will continue to give my opinion!

BTW, wtaylor is a Macon guy so you know who he wants to see get it! That is where he is getting his info!

    GO JACKETS and WAVE!

Watson is also a “Macon” guy but neither have given me any information. I know both and believe in both. My information comes from multiple people. I can’t confirm or deny any of it, but can only say what I have heard. I can easily turn this around and say JimB is a Trousdale guy and is getting his information from Waggoner. See how that works? BTW, Wilson and Watson would Coach circles around Waggoner.

There are teams out there better in AA than CR who beat Macon. The word was the team of 6 was exhausted after there comeback late in the fourth. My reasoning is when u play Pearl C or Maplewood type teams, they will go 8-10 deep....and they can all run. Macon losing the big girl hurts more than most can see.   You can when with short fast girls play 7-9 girls exhausting an opponent. Hard to do with 6. We shall see once they play in another tight game if Larry plays 7-8, or breaks nervous and goes back to 6. If he does,  he won't last long come tournament time.

I would put Clarkrange up against any team in AA early in the season. Reason being, those girls play basketball year round and truth be told “practice “ all summer. They don’t have other sports at the school that conflicts with basketball. Macon had 3 or so girls play other sports, so they definitely were not in basketball shape game 1.

I do agree we need to get 2-3 more girls meaningful minutes and I think that will happen as the season progresses. Give it time, Macon will be ready come tournament time.

Exactly, all big transfers go elsewhere! Those were the ones Short always seemed to get, now its Crabtree! Athletes flock to winners as they have with Creasy at Oakland! Great players make Great coaches!

Just can't see Perry at GHS, he would blow it up and start all over and from what I hear on here that might not go over too well! Why he wan't out MT JULIET so bad, started looking last year. Then, if you go with Wilson or Watson ( well you gotta be kidding)!

In all seriousness, is any $$$ being offered to bring in a top coach?

    GO JACKETS!

Why would Wilson or Watson be a joke? Wilson beat the great Kevin Creasy coming off a state championship and then drilled Waggoner in his first year at TC. He also took inferior talent and competed in metro at a time when Pearl,Maplewood, and Springfield were loaded with athletes. Watson excels at getting kids out and will do the work necessary to make Gallatin an attractive landing spot for any transfers. He also played college football and knows what it takes in the trenches to win. That was Gallatin’s biggest weakness last year imo.

Perry is wanting out because the new school is splitting his zone and he will lose several athletes in the process. He has to be the #1 choice if he really applied. Wilson and Watson are both better than any of the metro coaches mentioned.

I will only answer one point because it is pointless to change some minds on here.

Most people do not see Gallatin as a place people want to live/work/coach....really.  It was voted the nicest town in America two years ago.  Does it have its problems?  Yes it does.  Are there positives, yes there are.  There were 30-40 applicants in the first week, not at the end, the first week!  Building is ridiculous in this town!  Just look at the subdivisions and apartments going up, it is crazy!  So obviously those investors and builders are all foolish because nobody wants to live here.  People from here work all over not just Gallatin.  You can point to murders which is a low point no doubt but every town this size has them at some point unfortunately.  That is NOT indicative of the entire town I assure you.

The builders are building in Station Camp, Beech, and Cottontown areas. I am not so sure the Gallatin zone is getting anything other than apartments/condos. I am not trying to ruffle feathers, just stating the facts for those on the outside looking in. We could be completely wrong, but I don’t think that is the case.

  21. I don’t think people are referring as much about the football program as they are about the community (Gallatin Zone). You guys are obviously great supporters of the Green Wave, but as you can see from this thread most outsiders now look at Gallatin as a place you don’t want to live/work/coach. How many murders did you have there this weekend?

The student population at Gallatin may have some athletes, but they are NOT head and shoulders above any other school in 5A/6A that routinely wins. Dealing with the off the field issues these kids have makes this a tougher place to win than 30 years ago. Other schools do have issues, but there are fewer issues at those schools or the support system is in place to make them succeed. Gallatin can get there, but the culture will have to change and the community will need to step up and help the coaches out. I know Gwave1 and Thegreatone are willing, but is anybody else? Trust me, it can be overwhelming when you have 10-15 kids with no ride after practice and you aren’t even sure if they are eating dinner when they get home. I know this from experience. It takes up time and money from high school coaches that they often don’t have.

You all threw out Oakland and Whitehaven earlier as examples of “inner city” type schools that succeed. I will give you Whitehaven on that one, but did you know they are a magnet school? That enables them to get the best of the best from Shelby County. I watched an interview with 10 of their most talented players on coacht before the state championship game and 6 of them had transferred in from somewhere else. That makes a huge difference for that program. I don’t think Gallatin has any advantages like this, but I am willing to bet the best players from the area 30 years ago all ended up playing for Calvin Short.

Oakland is the new Riverdale in Rutherford County. They get all the best athletes from the area and they too had 2-3 guys transfer in this year that were next level talents. Oakland also has a good mixture of well to do’s and athletes. This enables them to get the support they need to run like a small college program. When was the last time Gallatin had big time transfer move in? I can think of a few at Beech, Hendersonville, and even Station Camp.

With all that being said, I will eat a little crow. I have been told there were some top notch coaches apply and I really didn’t think that would happen. If Trey Perry really did apply, then Gallatin should throw the kitchen sink at him to get him in green. If they hire a metro coach, then the search is a failure. Those guys are good for the kids, but I fear they would be consistently outocached at the 5A/6A level. If Perry will not accept, Wilson or Watson are your best two choices to get it turned around. Both are young, hungry, and have won at places that struggle to win at times.

Hmm. So would you consider Oakland an "upper tier socioeconomic community"? Or how about Whitehaven? Hillsboro? Friendship Christian? Trousdale? Oak Ridge? Riverdale? Smyrna? Henry County? All of these have multiple state titles. NONE of those places have any BETTER demographic than Gallatin, yet are very successful. None of the schools in these areas are going to look like the Brentwood & Brentwood Academy areas, but that doesn't mean then aren't filled with talent. Talent has not been Gallatin's issue these past 7 years, and that alone is a good indication of how much you actually know compared to what you're stating. Also, that's only your opinion about the stadium being off campus. The majority of people love it right where it is. And it darn sure doesn't hurt fan attendance,  why would it? It's right in the middle if town. I would argue that Gallatin took more people up to see the win those state titles than pretty much any team I can think of off the top of my head. Fans are not an issue. Even took a nice crew all the way up the 8hr drive to watch them play in Canton Ohio. If you win-they will come. You're definitely entitled to your opinion,  but I will admit I think it differs from most others views about this program.

Differs from those wearing green colored glasses. Get out of Gallatin and most don’t even know where you are, mich less anything about your football program.
