  1. Not ALL coaches respond. The majority will at least give you a courtesy call, but sometimes things happen, it gets busy, or they just don't do their job. A lot of the coaches that I know are more than willing to call interested players, invite them up for a showcase, walk them around campus and all.

  2. NAIA schools do not have unlimited scholarships. Also, most schools in NAIA (I can't speak for all) do not give "full rides" for athletics. If anything, it will be a combination of athletic and academic scholarship money...

I was expecting to see some more names on this thread. Some schools like to wait until the season is over to sign, so I was really hoping to see a lot more names out here.

  3. The Indians will be fine next year. Sure, they're losing some great players, but most every team in the conference is. I'm not sure about who will be coming in as freshmen for other teams, or who will end up transferring in or out of the various schools. But if Dobyns-Bennett can keep the team together (minus the '05 Senior class), then they should be at least Top 3 in District 1-AAA (realize that I am accounting for other schools to get a transfer in our something). I honestly do not see Dobyns-Bennett finishing lower than 3rd in District 1-AAA for any logical reason. I'll save my 2006 pre-season rankings until right before next season though.

  4. Baldcoach, :)

My property in Colorado borders the Pacific Ocean, it has a great view overlooking a great white sand beach, a beautiful home, & maids that live there in the maids quarters to work for you so that you never have to lift a finger while you're there.  Asking price - $500.

Okay, but I still want to purchase that sandbox in Arizona...

  5. RW, where do you put the public "magnet schools"?  They draw from the across county, so should they be put in with "private"?  (I don't think this is as much of an issue in softball as it is in football or basketball.)  And what about players that play in a school other than where they are zoned? Or how about a player that moves within the county or goes to live with a relative so they can play ball at a certain school.  Should that school be put in with the privates also?  There's a lot of issues with high school sports and I'm not sure anyone has it all worked out.  Any way that you look at it someone will end up with the short end of the stick, or bat in this case.    ;)

Okay, so that makes a VERY good point. I know of lots of kids that drove to the City schools when I was in school to have a better chance of winning. I actually lived closer to the City school, but I went to County. The name of the game is to play for the love of it, and we should not take anything away from the girls that made it to State. Regardless of classification, those girls made it to State through thier own hard work and efforts. On the flip side, how many teams were denied the chance to go to State because of that. I'm kind of glad that I don't have a horse in the race, but can you blame a parent for giving their kid what they feel like is the best for them (assuming that the child agrees)?

  6. I don't have a son, daughter, cousin, or anything playing high school sports. I just think that it's a little skewed to have private schools playing in the same "level" as public schools. I also think that private schools should all be in one group, but that there should be a distinction made between those that give scholarships and those that do not.

As far as the Asains kicking our butt in math, that does not occur because we are zoned into a particular schooling section. That is an entirely different conversation, besides, I think that Baylor kids would kick a lot of people's butts in math, science, etc. The grades that those kids make are remarkable, for the most part because that is something that I believe is required for admittance. So what you have is a team loaded with athletic talent that also perform well in the classroom. If spelling bee competitions were seperated by classes (such as AAA, AA, and A) then that would become a similar issue.

Okay, so maybe that didn't make a whole lot of sense, but my new muffler just came in so I'm going to go see how it will look on the car.

  7. i was not "trashing" db simply stating that you should not put in papers "yea we have always hit jeff lockwood since we were kids and we will rock him tonight" and things like that quote a db player so dont tell me anything about class. and what about kicking a kids foot a first base at the end of the game and talking trash to a base runner because he ran in to you. so say what you want but i have def. would not consider that to classy.

I am not a D-B player, fan, or supporter. Do you really think that someone not on the field would be looking for someone kicking a foot? Or that spectators could see trash talking? Just go down to Memphis and tell your boys to bring a ring back with them to Knoxville.

And I saw where Lockwood read something on CoachT and it proved helpful. Also, in Cory's defense he did not say that they would rock Lockwood. He did state that they had played against him in Summer Ball in the past and that they hit him last year. Also, he was referring to being happy about getting to play for a chance to go to State (but having the chance to beat Halls to do it would make it even better).

  8. Coacht, Why was the DB v. Knox Halls thread closed?

    825679288[/snapback]

Because you could tell that the bashing was about to begin. 'BwAnG', go ahead and open up a thread for D-B baseball and let's see if we can keep the jokers out that got the last one closed (hint, D-B showed class last night so it wasn't them).

  9. Primetimeplayer, don't trash talk the D-B team, I thought they had alot of class towards you guys after the game and the people bashing the halls on coacht ins't even any of the players.  So next time you try to bash someone, make sure its not D-B, because there are years to come, and D-B-Halls could meet again.

By the way, i hope you guys win the state this year, losing is better when you know the team you lost to wins the state.

    Good luck Halls

This is one of the best posts that I've seen from a Dobyns-Bennett supporter. IT rings true in all aspects, because The Tribe will be back next year. Chances are that the must win game to get to state will be played at J. Fred Johnson Stadium in 2006. Also, I would like to point out that the Indians did show a lot of class after the game was over. Best of luck to Halls at State, and to the graduating members of the Dobyns-Bennett team.

  10. Instead of casting a negative shadow on these two teams, how about telling us who you think will win AAA State? There is too much negativity on CoachT threads as it is, I would prefer if this one stays for the fans of Jefferson County softball and Powell softball. If you are not a fan of either one of these teams, then maybe you could start your own thread about the team you think will win State, but I cannot stop you from posting in this thread. I've seen both of these teams play, and trust me, whoever wins this game has a pretty good shot at State. Anything can happen once they pull into the complex down their, but both teams have the players with heart to bring home a ring.

  11. This should be a good game between two very good teams. CoachT schedule/results has the season at a 1-1 deadlock with both victories coming in 1-run games. I'm interested to see how this one will turn out, we could see the eventual State champ come from this game.

  12. IM me at '[edit]' on AOL if you have instant messanger (don't want to get flooded with e-mails)...I'll have my away message up, but if I have your screenname then I'll IM you back with my e-mail around 11:00 (I have to step out for a while).

  13. Okay, as usual I'm going to have to direct my posts to individuals. 'bud', thank you for trying to show some sensibility, too bad not all could follow it.

Dobyns-Bennett: Y'all had a great season and played with heart until the last out. Y'all took home the Region 1-AAA crown, and no one can ever take that away from y'all. Also, to the seniors, it's time to move on with your lives wherever that may take you, but do not forget where you came from (and don't forget to tell Coach Ritz thanks).

Halls: Represent East Tennessee well in State, but please let 'bigstick2000' be the only classless person that makes a post like that. Take your win, get on the bus, go home and prepare for State.

  14. I should start during the Fall of 2006. I'm wanting to start off as a student assistant. Right now I'm just trying to help get some good ball players into our program to help us get closer to the National Tournament.

Is anyone going with the Ladies in Blue that could relay us on their progress?

  15. Let's keep this one clean so it can stay open (the past is the past, including past posts).

I won't be able to keep up with the team when they go across the state, and across its borders. If anyone could give some good game-by-game updates including how the team did, as well as the individual ladies.

  16. I am just hoping that this is only fans doing the cutthroat stuff. Even though that would be even sadder, because what type of an example does that set for the kids that are actually playing the game? Please remember that this is for the kids, sometimes we lose track of that. And also, try to not let your own negative actions take away from the positive things that your daughters, nieces, etc. have accomplished this season. Best of luck to the Unicoi County Lady Blue Devils...
