  1. Ok, well I heard today that it's not a done deal. If this is true, then I definitely think the kid made the right decision. Either way, with or without this situation, parents just need to chill. They will never be able to look at their kids objectively.
  2. He didn't name him..he was quoting a previous post. But here's my opinion. And most of you know who I am, and that's fine. I would say this to anyone. I've heard both sides of this story. Either way, playing time is the coach's prerogative. I'm NOT backing either positions..that's just the way it is. With that said, if I am at Ooltewah and a player quits as a sophomore because of playing time...then I say "Good Riddance!" If I remember correctly, it wasn't too long ago that a PITCHER with the initials BF left Ooltewah and transferred to another district school because he thought he should be playing 3rd base...or better yet, his parents thought he should be playing third base. He ended up ONLY pitching at the new school. PARENTS HAVE BEEN AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE THE DEMISE OF ATHLETICS AT OOLTEWAH HIGH SCHOOL. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK PARENTS! Ok, I'm off my soap box now! Go Owls!
  3. Saw today that Rhea County beat Red Bank last night too!
  4. Soddy's talent is significantly down this year compared to the past few years, howver Coach Garland coached teams ALWAYS play well and competitve in their district and region. I look for the district to finish like this: 1. Ooltewah T-2. Red Bank T-2. Soddy Daisy 4. Central
  5. You'll be hard pressed to field a competitve 18-up team in Chattanooga. Most 18 year olds with talent play on the 18 yr old Cyclones or the Collegiate Cyclones. If you're looking for more of a rec team, there is an amateur league in the Tri-State area called the Tri-State Baseball League. Their website is www.tristatebaseball.com.
  6. Ooltewah could be a pre-season favorite for best team in Chattanooga/Southeast TN...but I'm not going to count "their" chickens before they hatch. They lost pretty much every starter from last year (part of the best overall graduating class in the history of Ooltewah baseball). With that said though, a lot of talented players are returning - most of which would have started on most area teams last year. Ooltewah will be good. But in high school baseball, it's NEVER safe to make any pre-season conclusions. Either way, Go Owls!
  7. Great game and congratulations to the Bulldogs! The combination of Ooltewah not being able to stop Smyrna in the first half, and Ooltewah shooting themselves in the foot a couple of times proved to be too much for the Owls to handle! The Smyrna Bulldogs won the game any way you look at it, and you WONT hear any excuses or whining from me! I was impressed with their running game. I didn't think their passing game was all it was cracked up to be...but the running game is what made the difference in my opinion. Good play call on that fake punt too. I don't think the PA Announcer was classless by any means. That's not really a fair assesment. He pulled somewhat of a Farragut and cheered for his team over the speaker...but remember, this is high school football. My only complaint was he had an awful voice to be a PA Announcer. It probably could have all been remedied (or at least made it bearable) by turning the volume down a couple of notches. But that had nothing to do with the game...just giving my two cents on that. Hope to see you guys again!
  8. Here are most of the articles from the Chattanooga Times Free Press and the Murf Daily News Journal that I could round up! They are list by date at bottom. Ooltewah at Smyrna - 11/24/06
  9. I usually don't do this so early.... Ooltewah 38 Smyrna 17
  10. Good job ImaOWL! Region 2-5A is the best region in 5A football NORMALLY...this year Oak Ridge was down, but Farragut, William Blount, McMinn were up! They keep referring to this Cookeville game...which was in Week 0. I'll take Region 2 over their region any day. Needless to say, Ooltewah will be prepared physically and mentally to make the trip to Smyrna this Friday night! I can't wait! Go Owls! I'll be thrilled if he has a performance like that too!!
  11. Wait just a second??? How come everyone is talking about what a great QB Gray is and what a passing threat Smyrna is??? If I'm reading these stats correctly from this past week's Quarterfinal win over Riverdale, Sonny Gray had: 3 completions in 8 attempts for 92 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT! I sure hope he has the same stellar performance against the Owls this week! Here's the stats: Smyrna 9, Riverdale 7
  12. This News Channel 9 footage is pretty good. Click on ImaOWL's link and then scroll down to click on the Ooltewah/Farragut and Ooltewah/Sevier games. Go Owls! Absolutely no way that Smyrna has more speed than Ooltewah. Period.
  13. He enjoyed his first year of pro ball and instructional league. Now he's home until Spring Training. Thanks for asking! Go Owls!
  14. Ooltewah could line up right now and run the wing-T - they have several times this year - that's Benny's old offense!.....I wish I had some Owl video! Obviously it gets to you a little....get rid of all the CAPS!
  15. I dont think it would be accurate to consider a Week 0 game when talking about a team in the post season. I'm not just saying that because I'm an Owl fan. A lot has happened in 13 games. Kids grow up, coaches see what works and what doesn't. It can just be a totally different team! One score that sticks out to me on Smyrna's schedule: Riverdale 49, Smyrna 0. I know Smyrna won when it counted last week, but this shows there is an obvious vulnerability. I hope Coach Monroe can get the game film for that week from Riverdale! We need to do whatever they did! Haha! 49-0 is 49-0 no matter how you slice it...and it was later in the season. What in the world happened????? Seriously, I'm asking a serious question.
  16. Haha, this Buzzman is killing me! You must have a crush on BJ or something!?!? Go over to the thread about Brentwood Academy beating McCallie if you want to continue to rave on BJ. This is about Ooltewah/Smyrna. We made the comparison of Jeremy Woods to BJ, now it's over. Also, very good post from ImaOWL. I think he gave a pretty good description of the Owls' offensive threats...minues Woods and Morgan.
  17. It should be just like the Heisman....your Heisman winner's almost always come from nationally ranked (top 10) teams....when's the last time you saw a Heisman winner from a 9-4 team?? I'm sure it's happened, but it's much more rare than from a 12-0 team! The team and the team's success has to have something to do with it. But oh well...let's hope Marshall can help his team to that Gold Ball! I would much rather have a TEAM State Championship than an individual award (that is only won by a popularity contest). State Championships are won on the field!
  18. We don't mind standing! We're used to standing room only crowds! Ooltewah might be the best I've ever seen at having a good travelling fan base. They will be represented well at Smyrna this week!
  19. That's a very astute comment! I bet you really did have to BE THERE to SEE IT!
  20. Ooltewah 35, Farragut 14 9:12 left in 4th Quarter!!! Go Owls!!!
  21. Ooltewah 21, Farragut 14 7:10 left in 3rd quarter. Farragut just tied it up, and then Ooltewah returned the kickoff for a TD. Farragut 1st and 10 on Owls 41 yd line.
  22. Halftime Ooltewah 14, Farragut 6 Both teams have blown chances to score. Farragut's thrown 2 interceptions.
