  1. "We won by 20 and never came close to playing our best ball. The was never in doubt,"

So if someone comes close to playing with Cloudland then Cloudland is not playing good. Thats interesting..., so if they loose a (and I am saying if they loose) it was not that they are beat by the other team, the Highlanders loose the by just not playing well...it has nothing to do with the other team being good! WOW! I am glad you pointed that out to everyone on here. So everyone remember, if you play with Cloudland then its not you doing good, its them doing bad.

Oh if PV is number one again on the fan poll, dosen't that just prove that PV fans are supporting their team. Its called PV Pride! I really don't think PV fans or any fans are putting more into the "fan" poll than it really means. By the way, most PV fans have pride, not arrogance like some on here. You want a dillusion, look at the AP poll, Cloudland is number one.

  2. Landers rule is right on the playoffs. Lower brackets have home field advantage in the third round and up. First and second round home field is determined by the higher seeded team.

By the way, from where I was sitting (best seat in the house) some Clouldland and PV fans acted a little crazy (a good word for it i guess). It was a big game for both teams with a lot of emotion and that stuff happens. Its over now and hopefully we will meet again in Roane Mountain in the third round. Good luck to the Highlanders and lets take care of our business Indians, we have two big regular season games to play and earn our respect from two teams who beat us last year.

Cloudland will win this game by a large margin. I`m not a Lander fan, so don`t try and call me arrogant. And don`t be surprised if you see a Lander fan post on here sometime this weekend and say...."I told you so" It`s nice that you think your team is doing well, but by the looks of some of your opponents records, I think Powell Valley will see what a quality team looks like this week. JMO.

If you are neither a Cloudland fan or PV fan, why are making posts on here? Oh by the way, we don't think the PV team is just doing well, we KNOW they are doing great. Cloudland is a quality team, no doubt about that (anyone who thinks otherwise is just stupid) but the PV fans know that the Indians are a quality team too. Most everyone on here is just pulling and posting for the team that they love. So I ask the question, why are you on here?

  4. All I want to see is two teams play hard every play, which will happen. The better team will win, whether it is Cloudland or Powell Valley. I have seen both teams on film and live and to think this is going to be easy for either team is just plain dumb and arrogance. Powell Valley has to match the Cloudland intensity to win, and Cloudland has to to do more than "think" they are going to win (PV is a lot better that Jellico, North Greene, etc). From my standpoint, the Highlanders are overlooking and the Indians are quick and strong enough to match Cloudland. This will be a great game!

  5. Its a fan poll! Of cousre they are going to vote their team number one. It dosen't matter if they have won every game or lost every game, the fans are just showing their team and everyone else they support the team. As fas as beating Powell Valley, I have seen both teams play, and if Cloudland expects to drill Powell Valley like then they are way over confident. Then again the Cloudland team probably isn't over confident, just some of the Cloudland fans.

  6. You guys are right. Ezell and Cloudland are the number 1 and 2 teams in the state, respectivley. All I can say is that Ezell dominated Cloudland last year in the state, so number 1 is rightfully theirs. I have seen Cloudland this year and they are a totally different team than last year. I have not seen a more determined and disciplined team in a long time. The Byrd kid is one of the better players I have seen in any class of high school football. I am not a fan of either team, but these two are the best.

  7. This one will be close. Cloudland has many weapons to use. South Greene had a good defense and their coaches are always prepared. If Cloudland has Byrd (He was out last week), I'm going to say Cloudland by 15. If he dosen't play, Cloudland by 10. South Greene is no pushover, but Cloudland should play well enough up front to make it hard for S.G. to contain the backfield of Cloudland. What does Clouldand run on offense this year? I heard they passed some and that they spread the field but run option out of it.

Rusty Loza is the best rec. in East TN that nobody has heard of. Last year he had 43 catches for 1029 yds, 13 TDs, and 1755 all purpose yds. He plays at Powell Valley who is going to dominate Claiborne County this thursday.

    flip,

Don't fan the fire in Claiborne County's belly. I've seen them twice and their pass defense is suspect, but I expect you can throw that out with this being the "Last Stand" for both schools.

I would say you are mostly right. This is going to be a huge "pride" game for the entire county. Unless Claiborne can cover better, I expect some big plays from Loza and Medley. Medley has had 4 TD's in the last two games. The key to the game is like any game, who will win in the "trenches"!

The last Powell Valley -- Claiborne County game. I actually played against both schools back in the early 90s when I was at Oliver Springs. Between the '91 & '92 seasons the team and I were 3-1 against the pair when there was only 3 classifications.

A moment or two I will never forget would be both home games in '92. We beat Powell Valley 34-21 after building a 28-0 halftime lead. At halftime, some very idiotic, rebel fans (actually classmates--even though hardly anybody claims them--myself included) trashed the PV locker room--firing them up on our homecoming. Boy, did they ever fight back. I'll also never forget during that game the final play. Leading 28-21, our coach called a kneel down at the 3 with only 5 ticks left to play after a PV timeout. Instead of taking a knee, the QB called a slant pass--to me of all people and told me I had better catch it. I caught it more ways than I care to mention--a TD and from the coach. He had to apologize to the PV coach and made us run, run, and run some more.

As for the Claiborne game that season, it was a rainy and scoreless game on Senior night until very late. I dropped the ball of the block on a field goal from the right hash from about 34yds out. Instead of freaking out, our Brazilian kicker put it right down the middle for 3. The year before at Claiborne was a different story, Claiborne County won so bad I can't recall the score. It was about 35-12 or something like that.

As for the upcoming matchup, someone tell me how the players feel about merging after all these years?? In a squeaker, nailbiter, and hard-fought contest I'll take PV just because they are playing at home

I was a Freshman at that game on the Powell Valley sideline. I remember we walked in at halftime and found all of are clothes in the shower or in the toliet. It was a good second half, and I remember the final play to. The head coach for Oliver Springs was so mad, I can just imagine what it was like for the players at practice after that.

Ezell- defending champs, one of the fastest, most physical defenses in 1a, can score as many points as they need.

USJ- deserved the BCB over Cloudland last year, tough break in the brackets. Already proved they're for real with wins over alway tough CPA and Bruceton. Well coached.

Collinwood- didn't lost much from a team that ran into the eventual champs in the quarters. Ward and Victory are a great combo on offense and defense.

One a side note, how can Boyd's region possibly be the toughest in 1a? Explain that?

I didn't say that Boyd Buchanan's region is the toughest, I said some people say it is. I am niether a Boyd or Ezell fan, which I don't dislike them either, but they play on the 27th and it should be a great ball game. Whoever wins that game will be the overall best team in 1A as of mid-season. I think overall, Cloudland has the best chance to make it though the end. Granted they have a easier schedule than most, but they have to travel to Powell Valley who has speed, strength, and one of the better defense's in 1A. I know this from seeing them play Knox Central in camp. Knox Central is a top 5 4A team and Powell Valley only allowed 12 yards in a 15 play scrimmage.

  12. ok, i started this thread of messages in hopes of getting replys from a neutral point of view. From the other posts I have read it seems that most are not getting the point! When I ask why, i didn't mean for answers like: Ezell Harding is the best because they can score as much as they need (paraphrased). If you can't reply with giving good answers, then don't reply.

  13. Here are my top 3 teams in 1A. This is based on many things like past performance, current year, etc...

1: Ezell Harding - As the saying goes "to be the man you have to beat the man" (I hate that saying but its true). They are last years state champs and they didn't lose many players. Very sound ball club but at this time may be a little over confident. Look for them to be in the championship again.

2: Cloudland - Last year's state runner-up. Cloudland lost the likes of great players K. Buchanan and Hicks, but Cloudland is reloading not reuilding. With Byrd and Benfield as two of the top backs in East Tennessee, they are a threat that you must contain.

3: Boyd Buchanan - They come from what many believe is the toughest region in 1A. They must get through South Pittsburg (which will be tough but should win). They are a quick and strong ball club. Look for them to make it deep into the playoffs.

Who are your 3 top teams and why?
