I agree wholeheartedly with my coach here. Eric Felts would be a great hire at Cane Ridge. He knows the area, he's young and energetic, he's a disciplinarian, and he doesn't take crap from anybody. Which probably means that Metro wouldn't hire him, LOL!!

 

Seriously, I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago at the Tennessee-Arkansas game and I think he's going to make somebody a great head coach one day. A place like Oakland or Cane Ridge would be silly not to ask about him.

Felts' two boys will be raised in Williamson County schools (unless a "dream job" opens up). That's why he didn't even apply for a metro job. Would he like to be a head coach one day...yes. Would he sacrifice his children's education and future by putting them in a metro school just so he can be called a head coach....NOPE.

He likes where he's at...and he's busy trying to add another ring to his collection this Saturday. The staff at IHS is tight and work well together. What he has at Independence he'll never have in a metro school. Unless something miraculous happens I look for him to be at Independence for a while. The area is a "goldmine" of talent coming up (and moving in).

You don't find 'em like Coach Wilson anymore. I got one for ya.....Give me a mental mile!!!

HA! I've ran my share of those.

Coach Wilson died earlier this fall. They won in 1979 with Tom Bolton pitching. Played several years in the majors with the Red Sox and a few others.

Well I thought that the opening might mean that he was taking Ce..but instead he leaves for Science Hill. Crazy. Independence now has a head job available. Who will go for it. Who if anyone will Smith take with him? I know Felts has followed him for a while but Felts may go for Independence. Who knows?

Felts is staying...has one of the best receiving corps he's ever coached, and likes his chances of adding another state championship ring to his resume'.

It's funny to me how there are so many great teams from east TN. When is the last time a team from that part of the state won a championship? Until you can play a balanced game you are not going to beat the teams from middle TN in the playoffs. Three yards and a cloud of dust isn't going to get it.

DCA-until someone beats them in the playoffs, will win it all. Chris Wooden is a man playing among boys. The road to the state championship runs through him and that offensive line he runs behind.

JP II will be ok in a few years. Brothers has been in too many good programs and knows what it's going to take to get his team there. This school has big time facilities and that's going to get some athletes interested in their program.

You have to remember that a majority of the people on this sight are teenagers. The competion gets a little heated sometimes, but I'm not so sure that's always a bad thing. I love it when a person is passionate about their team.

Ezell coaches are proud of their team for the way they have practiced the last two days. I know Coach Smith, Howell, Felts, and Stinson are winners, and they refuse to let their kids off the hook. Everyday is a chance to make yourself better. And our guys found out the other day that they have to work harder on the practice field if they want to be playing in December.

Felts has been killing his DB's. He told me last night that his Seniors are finally learning how to be lead by example. In his seven years of coaching I've never seen him as upset, and humbled, as he was the other night. But as I said before, these guys don't know what the word quit means.

I am an Ezell guy and will give you my honest opinion of the scrimmage. Our secondary underestimated the talent of the MBA skill players, even after their position coach repeatedly warned them how dangerous they are. We have three Seniors starting in the secondary, with only one of them (Gettis) ever starting a high school football game. This, by no means, is an excuse. Those guys back there have been playing in our system for three years and know what they are supposed to be doing. The other day was a wake-up call for them. If there was ever a "good ole' fashion butt whoopin", the scrimmage on Tuesday was it.

Physically, I think Ezell's secondary can play with anyone. Mentally, they have a lot of growing up to do! And if I know their position coach like I think I know him, beleive me when I tell you that he was extremely embarrased the other day. I can assure you of this much, it won't happen again.

MBA plays with tons of class and plays hard to the whistle-on every play. Our guys can learn a lot from team of that caliber and I think that we came away with some good things from Tuesdays scrimmage. Do we have some things to work on, of course we do. Our coaching staff is a good one from top to bottom and are not going to cut their players any slack. They will get things worked out.

This returning cloudland team senoirs maybe the best ever in school history. 3 all-state players. Plus several all confernce players. The line will average 290 pounds.

If my memory is correct the last "great" linemen from Cloudland were bigger than 290lbs and their tongues were mopping up the turf @ MTSU before the 1st quarter was over with. Unless these boys can run all day long and chase down the speed that the top tier 1A teams have it's not going to matter how big they are.

We have teams over every Monday and Thursday @ Ezell-Harding. Call Scott Smith if you want to set something up. The number to Ezell is 615-367-2045.

We actually started using the spread offense in 2000, JP Shelly's junior year. Reading some of these threads talking about the QB making bad reads in this style of offense makes me remember this particular year. We went to Nashville Christian and got our butts handed to us. JP threw six interceptions. Now that was a nightmare!! But he was learning in the process and went on to become a great high school QB. In my years of coaching high school athletes I have never seen a better field general.

Football is about toughness, mental as well as physical, and mis-matches. Our kids run this offense everyday all year long and can run all day. You can not prepare for this style of offense in one week of practice.

It's down to the elite 8 with some great match ups this Friday. The games in the west part of the bracket will determine the eventual state champion, with all four teams having a shot to win. Being a realist, I am going to say that the Ezell/CPA game will more than likely come down to who has the ball last, especially if the field conditions are anything like last Friday.

We heard all this crap last year about how region 6 plays the three yards and a cloud of dust and how Ezell, CPA, etc. couldn't handle it. Well guess what happened. The only dust that was kicked up was when the speed guys were flying past those good ol' country boys on there way to the endzone.

I'll tell you why this happened....most of the voters in the AP are from the East Tennessee area, near Cloudland..that's why...Ezell would handle Cloudland AGAIN easily....

 

 

We (Ezell) could care less what the AP voters do. Our young men and coaching staff know what kind of team we have. So keep dogging us in the polls, heck, just take us out of the polls so all of the people in Roan Mtn. can bask in their moral victories of being ranked #1. This is nothing new to the folks at Ezell. We have the longest winning streak in the state but do you ever see headliners in the paper about what our kids do on Friday nights. NO!! Instead you see half page articles about CPA beating up on Lighthouse. People in the media see us as the bad guys because our system allows us to score a lot of points. Well we will gladly accept that role. Our goal every Friday night is to score every time we touch the ball, not to worry about what is going to be said next in the paper. We don't care if the other team gets their feelings hurt. We have an obligation to OUR KIDS to let them play to the best of their potential. If that means our second unit is throwing the ball in the fourth quarter up 35 points then that's what were going to do and we are not going to apologize to anyone!!!

Yes I have seen them play when they beat Boyd. They are an excellent team but no way are they any where close to South Pitts 1999 team and they would have a very hard time scoring on South Pitts defense now. This years team at south Pitt is in no way the same as last years. I have admired Ezell for a year now for the fact that they came from 5-5 one year to the state title the next but all this talk about Collinwood USJ CPA being so much better Where are all the titles they have ? CPA has 1 Ezell has 1 USJ nothing Colinwood 0. If Ezell repeats I will be the first to congratulate them. But to say they can't be beat is not true. Riverdale found that out a couple of weeks ago.

1999? Who cares, that was three years ago! Listen, we (Ezell) has heard all this nonsense before. Last year come playoff time all we heard and read was that Ezell couldn't stop the smashmouth teams like Cascade, Moore County, etc. That we haven't seen the tough "three yards and a cloud of dust" teams. All of this is getting a little ridiculous. Here's the cold hard facts:

1. Unless you play the same type of offense that we do there is no way to prepare for it in one week. Your going to have to put about 28 points on the board to have a chance to beat us.

2. Run the ball 60 times a game and your going to lose! Just as Cascade and Jo Byrns. We'll let you get your 400 yards rushing between the 20's but when its time to play inside the red zone your not going to score.

3. Keep underestimating our team and tell us were not as good as last year. We love that stuff. Our kids thrive on it and jump at the chance to put a whoopin' on teams that don't respect what we've built.

The only way that Ezell will lose this year is if they beat themselves and the other team plays their best game. Our kids are winners! They have had their backs to the wall and know how to respond. I've never seen a group of young men and coaches who hate to lose more than these guys. So for all of you all reading this who hope that we will "drop the ball", we won't. We will be in the hunt come playoff time and our kids will be as hungry as ever.

If reading this stuff offends you or hurts your feelings in some way ,don't read it.It seems to me that you and alot more of the private supporter needs a good lesson in deplomacy or either just a good trip behind the wood shed. I never get on here and run down other teams.It,s childish and only makes you look silly.We played two other teams last year that ran the same offence as ezell but the only difference was,thet did,nt have four or five college recruits on their team.You don,t have anything in the world to boast about and you have also proved that you are classless.Grow up

We do the best we can. We like playing good competion because we get to leave our starters in alot more. They work very hard all week and sometimes their reward is to get to play very little. An example of this was last Friday night. Dacota Benfield had three carries for about 150 yards and three touchdowns. His night was over, our varsity was on the bench most of the night. It's not like there is not any good competition in this area and some of the teams we play are very tough. Some of the better teams in this area have no need to play us. They have bigger schools to play and thus brings them a better gate. We are definitely a good football team, and from what I have seen better then last year. We will be a tough opponent for any 1a school this year, public or private. I know there are some tougher regions then the one we are in, but at the same time, there's only about two real good teams in any of the eight regions. From top to bottom, I think most of the regions get better competition then we do, but there's nothing we can do about that. We are where we are. GO LANDERS !!!

C'mon Pujo. Do you really believe that? I can name 4 teams in region 5-1A that would contend for your region championship every year. I have been reading these post from you and every other Cloudland fan day after day biting my tongue. When are you guys going to realize that it doesn't matter how many yards you run for, or how big your offensive line is, you can't beat a team that throws the ball effectively and has a good defense. This is because when you get down you can't score fast enough. I get so tired of hearing all these "smash mouth" football teams getting on this board talking about their 400 yards rushing on 60 carries and only scoring three or four TD's. Who cares? The only thing that matters is scoring points, and alot of them. When your a one man show like Cloudland is its so easy to defend them. Put eight or nine guys in the box and dare the QB to throw it. When you can spread the field with six or seven guys that can make plays running or throwing come talk to me. That's why Ezell put it on Cloudland last year in the championship game. Cloudland's defense looked like a Chinese fire drill. Those young men just had no idea where the ball was going, unlike Ezell's defense. They knew on almost every play who was going to be RUNNING the ball. Meet us back in M'Boro this year, because we will be there, and we'll see if ya'll learned anything from last year.

Can someone help me. It was brought to my attention that a coach is ejected if their team receives two personal fouls in a game. I don't believe this is correct. Anybody know?

A player can have ten personal fouls called against him in a game (if his coach let's him stay in the game that long). The penalty that will get a player ejected is unsportsman like conduct. Two of those will get you tossed.

Seems like thats a contrasting statement We Played Dirty but we didnt start anything. Anyways Loretto is known for playing dirty, and also my statement about the police escort was only half sacrcasm since they will have one

Monster's statement IS contradicting. Loretto does play dirty football. And there will be more than one police escort for Ezell's football team.

I have heard Antoine has been in Chicago for a while. Is everything okay? Surely he is not on vacation. It is football time & I don't think he would just go on vacation. Maybe I'm wrong though. Does anyone know why he is in Chicago?

Only the coaching staff knows. Nothing is wrong with Antoine and nothing is going on. He will be ready to play. He won't be starting in the Collinwood scrimmage, though. Coach Smith hasn't decided if he is even going to dress or not. I look to him being back by Friday at the Davidson Academy scrimmage.
