haven't seen Farrigut play this season but have seen Munford. We played them 5 times and only won once. 3 loses came against Overbeck. He doesn't seem overpowering but gets the job done. Munford is the best disciplined hitting team we played all season. If there is one thing Dunsforth does it is teach hitting. They have power up and down the order. I'll be there to see the match up this week, it has the makings of a great game.

game was played sunday afternoon.
Ferguson got the win for Munford, Mathews got the loss for Cordova.
Lewis closed for Munford, Hollenbeck closed for Cordova.
Decisive event was a 3 run homer by Overbeck in the 5th.
Final score 6-2 Munford.
Cordova has come from the losers bracket to face Munford in the Championship game. Just goes to show the parity in 14AAA. Whoever advances will have a tougher time of it in the Regionals than 15AAA who will face 16AAA (City of Mphs).
You are probably right about the 3 & 4 pitchers making the difference. I can't recall who Munfords #2 pitcher is. I know Cody Overbeck is #1. Bartlett has 3 good arms with Nuccio, Thomas and Moyer. Cordova has Mathews, Baker and Holt. Millington has Joey Courtney but can't remember who else they have. Bolton has Stevenson and Ince. I'm sure there are others on the teams in dist 14. I know several pitchers have been injured on a couple of teams during the season.
Would Ashbey, Yokely and Cozart be the pitching trio Collierville will depend on? Who else is throwing with Lalor at Houston now that Watson is down? I've seen Griff Burleson at G'town but not familiar with the rest of their staff.
Some Huston dads told me he injured his elbow just after midseason. To me Tyler was their best pitcher, overshadowing Jon Lalor. It was a big blow to the Mustangs to loose him (as their recent record reflects).
Now that district play has concluded and the tournaments are about to begin, who are the key players in the area? Bartlett, Bolton, Cordova, Millington, Munford, Houston, Collierville, Germantown, Ridgeway?
Cordova beat Houston 8-6 Monday night. Sr. pitchers Travis Mathews and Jay Hollenbeck combined to strike out 10 Houston batters while giving up just 1 earned run. Houston's Jon Lalor dropped to 5-3 with the loss giving up 12 hits. Cordova Fr. Robbie Graham recorded his 1st HR of the season in the contest.

Different players impress different people at different times. Believe it or not everyone is not on their 'A' game everytime they play. To me the 3 Houston players are the ones who impressed me. The last time I saw Houge (Fri night) he was 0 for 2 with 2K's and a BB against subpar pitching. The Houston players that impressed me that night was Zack Miller and Rawley Bishop. This is not to say that Houge might not perform great the next time I see him play. I can only give my opionion as to what I see, not what the media or others think. Same would go for Zack Cozart at Collierville. He has got a lot of media and hype. I've watched him for years, he is good, but far from great. I've seen him 3 times in 2004 and he hasn't done much in any of the games. You might see him and he might perform great. These are just my views. I call'em like I see'em.
Some I've been impressed by so far this season:
Brad Little OF - Briarcrest
Josh Germany P - Briarcrest
Travis Mathews P - Cordova
Mark Foster SS - Cordova
Julian Henson C - Cordova
Kevin Cox SS/P - Fairley
Scott Hawkins C - Collierville
Joe Freeman P - Covington
Griff Burleson P - Germantown
Chad Bishop C - SBEC
Tyler Watson P - Houston
John Lalor P - Houston
Rawley Bishop IF - Houston
