  1. Helton is a great athlete, but do you really think that he is the best QB in the state. I don't want to take anything away from him, but is he really a true QB. I have even heard other bobcat faithful mention that Kenny Cruze was a better QB. Again, I don't mean to take anything away from Zach he is a great athlete, and a really gutsy kid!

  2. I heard a rumor that Joel Helton of Knox Central is moving to the college coaching ranks as an assistant at Maryville College. Does anyone have any facts to back this up? I know that Zach is graduating, and defensive coordinator Jeff McMillan has been waiting a long time for this opening. Any truth to it actually coming to fruition?

  3. Golden Tate is the top prospect in Tennessee. How many other players are being recruited by Notre Dame, Tennessee, Clemson, Florida, & Miami among others? This is a big time recruit like Patrick Turner was last season.

How about Lee Smith from Powell? I know that he has verbally committed to UT, but he is also getting serious looks from Virginia Tech, Miami, and many other SEC schools. That is pretty impressive.

  4. I have to agree with Coach Wood's last quote in the article, "Otherwise we are in trouble." If they can't find a way to capitalize on opportunities they have to score, they will be in trouble. I don't see Maryville missing their opportunities to score. They seem to find a way even when there doesn't seem to be a way. I see Maryville winning this one in a big way. They will make a statement Friday night.

  5. On the field, these two teams are pretty well matched. But, I have to give the edge to Maryville in this one. They have a definite advantage in the mental category. They have beaten Central consistently since 2000. I don't see the streak breaking with this Maryville team. I pick Maryville to win by 6.

  6. I really don't know who to pick in this one. Powell is an unexpected 3-3 but as stated previously those 3 losses come to teams with a combined record of 17-1. Halls has come out of nowhere this year and is having a great year behind new head coach Kevin Julian. Earlier in the year I would have said Powell without a doubt....now I am thinking that momentum and home field advantage will play a bigger role.

  7. Central home boyz will bearden but has too much class to be 70-0.

    Is this English?

Central will win this one by as many as they want. S-D's only hope is that they can stop the sophomores and freshmen from running up the score.

I would also like to ask this question....Exactly WHO is D1 talent for Central?

Granted they are a great high school football team, but I don't recall seeing anyone who I would consider D1 material.

  8. With the exception of last years 56-10 routing, no other Maryville vs. Central game has been decided by more than about 6 points. I really think that tonight's game will be much the same. Central is claiming to have a great team, and so far it seems that they do, and Maryville.... well, they are Maryville.

This game will be won by the team with the fewest mistakes as it always it. Usually that goes to the more disciplined team which in this case I would have to give to Maryville.

  9. Wow! There is alot of smack being talked on here. I notice that there aren't as many Powell players on here talking as there were before last weeks 47-19 loss to Maryville. Maybe they learned a lesson, and have decided to let their actions on the field do the talking not their keyboards.

As far as the game goes, I have to agree with what others have said. SD has beaten two pretty weak teams in the Knoxville area in Clinton and Gibbs. Powell has lost 3 games to some tough opponents in Maryville, Farragut, and Webb. I really don't see SD pulling off a win in this one.

  10. I am going to give my opinion based on team that have played the Morristown teams. M West beat K West this past week by a very small margin. M East lost to Carter, who before this year was the perennial whipping boy in region 3-4A. This to me says that M West will most likely dominate M East. Now, I know that all of the records and other factors can be thrown out the window with an in-town rivalry game, but I think that West has too many weapons for East to handle.

  11. I agree. It would allow kids to know where they stand. The problem is that we have gotten away from that in schools, and sports are included. It is all about building up kids self confidence. The only problem with that is that sometimes kids get a false sense of reality. Then when they get into the real world reality smacks them in the face. I say, by all means please put up depth charts. Maybe it will bring back some good old competition amongst players to fight for playing time, and know how good they really are.

  12. Hey, I'm a Knoxville guy, but this looks on paper to be a good game in upper East Tennessee. DB is always a tough team, and recently Tennessee High has been a team to watch in the upper East (just keep them away from Maryville...). I saw that game last year, not pretty. Hopefully they learned from that one and it will be better in the future. But I think DB will win this one.
