  1. Since you mentioned Howard. Does everyone here in the south pronounce it "Haird." By the way-do they have a win yet?
  2. Hey Dude. She's just looking for a team. I'm sure she's a fine ball-player. And she's got to be hungry to post all her info. [Edited by OSCARtheGROUCH on 4-25-03 8:15A]
  3. POLKTEACH45, I was so moved by your story it almost brought tears to my eyes. If I sent Jacob a baseball card with a self addressed stamped envelope do you think he, Amber, and Pastor Bob would sign it and mail it back??? I don't even know him and I love him too.

I Don't recommend teaching him ANY breaking pitches till he's about 13. I've saw too many good young pitchers start throwing them at 12 only to suffer from arm problems in High school. At your son's age a good change up is just as effective.
  5. Last year in Columbia, I saw a kid named Johnny Mendez playing shortstop for the post 19 team. I've also saw him in several High School games. I'd put him up against anyone at that position. May not be as well known because of the small school but has a lot of talent.
  6. Nice catch Mr. baseball. Those Eagleville stat keepers can't be too honest if they get .597 out of 33 hits. Here's a clue for them: Hits are divided by times at bat. Walks DO NOT count as a hit or a time at bat.
  7. Who has hit the most awesome home-runs you can remember? I'm not talking game winning. I'm talking sheer distance. I'm talking about home-runs that you couldn't believe how far they went. At any level. Not just high school. [Edited by OSCARtheGROUCH on 4-7-03 1:45P]
  8. There you have it. Coach Smith is SO proud of his boy.
  9. I know that a lot of coaches will bump up certain players batting averages to try and make them more appealing to colleges. So it's hard to get an accurate account. Then you also have coaches that have sons that play. And we all know how that goes....An error for me or you will be a hit for him.
  10. When askes how WR Terry Glenn was recovering from an injury Bill Parcels response was,"She's coming along just fine."
  11. Win is right!!! But many times in the smaller schools lots of the better atheletes hang up their baseball spikes to "focus" on football or "focus" on basketball. Occasionally this may be the proper choice if they really do love that sport over baseball but many times they have the bone-head faculty member tell them they should concentrate on football(or basketball) because they won't get anywhere in baseball. This is just a scare tactic that some people resort to, to better their football/basketball programs. After all they get paid to win and no win equal no job. Also football and basketball make the bigger bucks at the gate so the pressure to win is greater. I think if you're talented enough to play and excel at multiple sports--you should play em' all. You're only young once, And by the way, Baseball is STILL the greatest game there is, ever was and ever will be!!!
  12. I've been around a lot of ballparks and seen a lot of shortstops. Lewis county's Johnny Mendez ranks right up there with anyone. He makes the tough plays look routine. Also a tough out at the plate.
