  1. Surely not based on the Martin game. JCS killed themselves in that game. JCS is playing pretty well right now, not many mistakes. One turnover at Huntingdon, one at Carver. Penalties are down too.
  2. It's safe to say that JCS matched up a little better physically with Huntingdon that USJ did. Plus the fact that defensive game planning is a strength of our coaching staff.
  3. It sure doesn't get any easier for JCS. Playing two of the strongest programs in West Tennessee on back to back weeks in November, both on the road - that's no bargain, but we'll sure take it. We are proud to still be playing, and had to play very well week 2 to beat a great Huntingdon team that is much better than their record would imply. JCS played Milan twice last year and once this year. Two of the games were competetive, but the playoff game week one last year was all Milan from the opening kickoff. While I'm not a coach and have not watched one frame of film, our game plan has to be the same - prepare hard all week, show up and play well, make some noise in the bleachers, and have a chance to win at the end of the game. It really has been a positive for JCS to play in 8AA the past two seasons. The schools in this region, plus the good folks at Huntingdon, play football very well and also offer tremendous hospitality with a lot of class. Our experience playing up, thanks to that wonderful multiplier, has not helped our record but has certainly helped us grow our program. I'm looking forward to the conversation on this thread this week and really anticipating a great night Friday at Johnnie Hale Stadium. Best wishes to both teams and both schools for an injury free week of practice, a great game, and that once again, God will be glorified by the way we act toward each other when we play this great game of football.
  4. Wow, what a night and what a game. Our first trip to face the Huntingdon Mustangs in Paul Ward Stadium was everything it was billed to be. The atmosphere was great - you could feel the tradition as the teams warmed up and the game began. The weather, as forecast, was brutal. And the game was all it was hyped to be. Defenses controlled the first half, with only one of the five total touchdowns coming before halftime. The Mustang offense is scary to watch - they are tight and run with speed and power and precision. Their blocking is awesome. Their defense plays hard on every down. Congratulations to the Huntingdon team and fan base for a great game and a great season. And HOW ABOUT THEM EAGLES!??? Couldn't move the ball at all until the rain came, then Cody Jones begins connecting on pass after pass. Great play calling and game plan from Coach Stewart and staff. Again the use of several wide receivers by Cody Jones really opened up the field. Once again, Will Johnson was the go-to guy to control the clock on the last drive, and he scored one of the td's. Looking forward to Milan next week. No disrespect to the bulldogs intended, but should we correct a couple of key mistakes from the first meeting, who knows, we could possibly find ourselves in the game at the end with a chance to win, kinda like Westview did tonight. I'm lovin high school football. Go Eagles.
  5. I think I'm correct - the JCS starting defense allowed two touchdowns to the Milan offense. They also pitched shutouts to Humboldt, Gibson County, and Peabody. When the JCS defense shows up to play, they have the ability to play well. I think the defense that plays the best wins the game. Looks like nasty weather at kickoff. Lots of layers and rain gear, folks.
  6. butchie, your opinion is needed on page 12 of the Huntingdon thread... Paging Butchie
  7. Yeah, Pioneer and Butchie need to wade in with their opinions on these questions....
  8. Sounds like the D line either gets the job done or they don't. Who has the hosses? Guess we'll see Friday night.
  9. We've had weeks when we were very good defensively and a couple of weeks when we were not so good. I sure hope our defense shows up Friday.
  10. With the weather forecast, I suspect we'll wear whatever is warm and hope for the best on color... Good luck Johnson is a good runner, had a good season, but he has not had any 500 yard games. The running attack of Huntingdon is the one that will have to be watched. We'll just try to contain your offense and make a few first downs when we get the ball.
  11. Where have you been, Pioneer? Threads are not the same without your "input"
  12. Stay in the thread, '03. JCS folk have nothing but admiration for what Milan's program has become, and we are looking forward to the Paul Ward atmosphere too. I've thought several times this week that for two rivals with so many high stakes games between the two programs, ya'll sure do get along well. Nice job.
  13. So, which side will you sit on and who will you root for? I recognize the history Milan has with Huntingdon, and that's great. But who would you rather play week three? Sorry if that's a nosey question. Just curious /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  14. Mustang Stew sounds good to me. Save me a bowl.
  15. I've been hearing about the Huntingdon tradition, especially during playoffs, since moving to Jackson over ten years ago. No doubt that the Huntingdon program knows how to win in November. Whichever team wins will have to play some really good football. Good luck to both teams. How does the rain for the next couple of days affect each team in practice? JCS has had a dry field for all eleven games this year - has Huntingdon played on a wet field this year? Does a wet field favor either team?
  16. Much Better, Thanks. Good Luck at UC.
  17. Come on, Butchie! Where da luv???
  18. We've played baseball and basketball in Huntingdon, but never football, at least in the last 12 years....
  19. Milan folks, who has played your team the best game this year? I know USJ scored on you but you won going away. Same at JCS. Has anyone caused your team to have to work hard to win this year?
  20. Thanks, #2. We'll have our hands full Friday night, but we'd love to play Milan again in the quarterfinals. Hopefully the coaches can come up with a plan to contain that awesome Huntingdon running game. Good luck against Westview.
  21. Someone please break down Huntingdon's game for those of us who have not seen them play. Obviously they can run Holder, but how? Is it his athleticism or the line play or execution on offense or all the above? Do they pass at all? How will JCS match up? They've shown up against athletic teams this year, though they ended up losing to Milan by a couple of touchdowns.
  22. From the reports it sounds like no one will beat Huntingdon if they can't stop Mr. Holder. Congrats on a great game for the Mustangs against USJ. JCS will have their hands full trying to contain the Huntingdon offense.
  23. McKenzie is always dangerous.
  24. It happens every year, a team who just squeaks into the playoffs pulls an upset in the first or second round. Who is poised to do that this year? I've seen only West Tennessee teams play, but I consider 1A TCA and 2A JCS dangerous to the ranked teams if they play well. Any others across the state?
  25. Jackson is slightly west of Huntingdon if that matters.
