  1. Parica Glenn is not surrounded by the talent GC has, but is the most athletic post player in this area. Reedy is the most intelligent. Reedy does all the little things that most people don't notice and works extremely hard. Griffin is somewhere between Glenn and Reedy in athleticism and basketball know how. Glenn gets double and triple teamed each game, Reedy nor Griffin see that.

  2. Since Morris took over, Milan is a slow starter, peaking at playoff time, most years. If you had told me Mlan was going to the championship game last year after lack luster performances with JCS, USJ, etc, etc, etc, I was laughing each time I heard it. Milan can ge there. A ton of injuries to key people. Matt Wise maybe the one that keeps us away, if any do. Bu to get ther Milan must begin to pickup the pace. After GC and Trenton, in what should be esier games, Milan has an open date to get things settled in. As usual and with all the injuries, Morris is always looking for people to fit. The games vs Ripley, Covington and Crockett will let everyone know where the dogs are. The 1st 1/2 of the year is a big experiment every year

  3. 1. MW everybody back from a tourney run last year. Plenty of depth with experience.

1A GC big 3 back and a solid 4th. Plenty of O, Russell will have the D figured out pretty quick.

    3. OC is a solid club that could upset 1 or 1A @ home. OC has 5 solid starters. Bench may not be as solid as needed.

    4. Covington very quick, fast paced, aggressive, return several players from 08

    5. Haywood see Covington

    6. Dyersburg several players back with experience from last year. play hard

    7. Milan a solid 5 players, too bad some play the same position. Piece of the puzzle is mia. (S Gray come back)

    8. Crockett County will improve

    9. Ripley tough year.

  4. I don't know bigster, I don't think playing GC helped Bradford much last season....They played three times and lost by an average score of 63-26....That doesn't do much for you really...They lost one time 60-16... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> ..Greenfield and Lake County will be good in 1A but they don't need to be playing GC....

It would have made some difference in the score, not in the win or loss, but in that 60-16 game Bradford was missing Wallsmith and another starter

  5. Gc lost what very well could have been the best defensive player in the state in Jennings. Gardner, a smart player & good shooter will be easily replaced by Hayes. GC does not need any scoring help, but may very well miss Jennings. When she turned up the heat on D last year in the finals , GC rolled. MW will be very hard to handle, as they will be deep and talented. No more will people be able to double Rechis w/o paying the price. Obion is also very solid with Fussell, Pate, Wright, and 2 other good size girls that played well last year. In the area Covington and NSide also look pretty good.

  6. Just in thru the grapevine express, NSHD will follow in Mcmillan's footsteps, leave MW and take over the GC job. The godfather, the ghost,Wescharge and other fans of Westview fans present and past are rolling over again. Word is there is a bounty /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />

  7. Although the article in the paper are compsed of true statements. It does not tell the complete story. There are other facts less than 10 people will ever know. GCP as all GC fans will tell you, it was a sad day @ Gc, that no one wanted to see, but yet all feared.

Now GCP get to work and see who will take over, inquiring minds want to know.

  8. How is that fair? If you are going to 4 teams, it should be the best 4 teams, no matter where they come from. If the best 4 teams are from Nashville, then a Jackson team that is the 5th best team shouldn't go ahead of them - or vice versa.

Seems your talking about a ranking system, AKA BCS, the worst system in th world. If a so called tenth rated team beats a 4th rated team, so be it "survive and advance". It is called an upset. Bring your A game in tournaments or go home. If you wanted to cross over what is now the 1st round of the state tourney and have west play mid west giving the opportunity for 2 west or 2 mid west to play the fianl 4 , I can go for that.

  9. Need to go to 6 classes. 4 teams in each class go to state. 1 from west, 1 from midwest, 1 from mideast, 1 from east each class. Would be fair for rural schools and big city schools. Have sectionals at one location in each section, that is reasonable for the teams involved. cuts down on team expenses and TSSAA expenses

  10. In reading the material that is what I thought the out of classroom stuff would have been also. That was one of the parts i was disappointed in. Also there are like 2-3 people handling 100 kids, not a lot of attention given to anyone. I was expecting a little better teacher/pupil ratio. Like i say the book is great and I think a person could do some good things, just following the book and teaching from that.

  11. My son went to the camp, when he was a freshman in High school. I was able to spend 2 days at the camp myself. The guy that started the camp Dave Devenzio (sp) passed away the next year. I think his brother runs it now. Here are some facts

It is a coed camp. (thought it hurt the camp for the guys)

I had 5 other kids that i took besides my son. All said the classroom stuff was the best.

Other than that from what I saw they chose teams after the camp counselors chose the team captains.

They played each other every day.

The high school 3's and 4's dominated the camp.

The guy wrote a book called "stuff". One of the best books I have ever read on basketball, once you get by all of his made up initials and phrases for everything. It was simple to read, yet if you thought about what you were reading and then thought about it from the opposite point of view, it could really make you think.

Personally i think you could take a chapter a day out of the book. Read it. Have the players read it. Then discuss it and then go thru those situations on the floor in a practice and instructional time. I think it would be just like going thru the camp only more personalized.

  12. On another note, teams in the area could benefit from a possible proposal of going to 6 classes in a year or 2. About 65 to a class in basketball. That would put NGC, MIlan, SGC, MW and some other area teams in about class 3A. Probably also cut the teams to 4 in each class making the state tourney.

  13. Congrats to Westview.

    Westview - 4

    USJ - 1

Robb for Westview hit a 3 run homerun in this game.

    Covington - 1

    Milan - 0

Milan loses to Covington for the second straight year by the final score of 1-0.

Also the same way, a throwing error in the 1st inning. Milan had their chances, but just could not get that key hit. A Fuller hit a long foul that was easily a homerun and that could have been 2 runs.

But Cov. is a solid club. Should be a good one with MW

  14. What is the difference in a 5th, 6th, 7th grader staying back a year and a 1st grader starting a year late. My humble opinion is, as a parent of 2 adult sons, both graduated when they were 17. One played sports, one did not. I tried to convince my other half, to let them go thru K twice or something, not to start either of them early. As usual she did what she wanted.

When they both started to drive and go off to college, she and they finally understood what I had been saying. My 17 year oldest driving off to college in a large city 5 hours away, with one year of driving experience, not mature enough for college, etc, etc.

youngest same thing , especially in college sports, (red shirt). Just not mature enough.
