  1. I don't believe ANY coach can start with largely inexperienced wrestlers and compete with teams that have kids that have had Great coaching since 1st grade. Years ago Bradley had a kids program that was 2nd to none. They sent kids to high school with 200 quality matches under their belt and ready to place in the state. Logston did a great job building those kids. Ben Smith is a coach that I would be proud to have coach my kid. He is great but competing against Teams that have elevated the game since Bradley's Dominance. Cleveland's leadership elevated about 6 years ago by adding Coaches to High School, Middle School and the Kids program. When you add guys like Heath Eslinger, Eric Phillips, Josh Boskin, Jake Yost to an already good Cleveland staff good things happen. This is the 6th year after Cleveland made their improvements, their 6th graders are now 12th graders in a top notch program. The future looks bright because their very experienced and well coached kids are now entering High School. I think Ben Smith is as good a coach as there is, but the world has changed and Cleveland, Walker Valley, Wilson Central and some others have improved their programs to the point that Bradley and Soddy will have trouble being as dominant as in the past. I am thankful that Cleveland's Supporters such As Alan Jones and the school superintendent have given the students access to coaches of this caliber. It can make a positive difference in their lives, and encourage the other schools to do the same.

  2. I agree with Xander. For many years kids entered Bradley good enough to place or win state. Bradley did a good job of taking very good wrestlers and making them Better. Ben doesn't have the Luxury of starting off with kids with this kind of experience. Looking at the staff of coaches they have sitting on Bradley's side I am willing to bet they will return to their glory days. One way they will do that is to wrestle the best teams they can find, and learn from the experience. I think they are going against Baylor today or tomorrow.

I think this is the part of the story where you say, "My Bad"! (option A) and or....."some SOB hacked my computer"

If I were you,,,,I would go with I lost my Iphone14 while at the tournament, and a very kind man wearing half a hat and A green T-shirt (save his feet which were very exposed like during the time of the bible), handed it back to me and the screen was stuck on this topic??? Whatever you do,,,you don't want to say you are from there,,, and don't know what your home town is called......go with option A

    BCB,,,sends...

  4. I'd have to add.....Pat Murphy, Randy Batten, Johnny Bradford, Stan Walden...........still thinking...David weeks, Tom Popp......probably forgetting a few.

You must be from Hixson! However, those guys were good. Randy Batten was a 3 time NCAA D2 champ. He also was ob the cover of the NCAA wrestling rule book in roughly 1978

  5. Cupcake

Congrats to the Soddy Team. You must have called BCB for a prediction on that last match because it was accurate. Congrats to Little Cupcake, he really turned it on and finished strong. I was pulling for Cleveland ( notice the name "raider76 ), but Soddy won with class and deserved the win.

  6. No, Tex, I think its keefejams, come back to haunt BCB in his final season under the name moc2011....... Which proves what most of us thought at the time, that keefie was a high school kid ........he must have just got out of UTC this past spring, 2011.

Hard to believe its been, what,5-6 years since we were treated to tag team board wrestling as keefie and his buddy stovepipe took on BCB and dearly departed HarryT in a titt-for-tatt that had the rest of us entertained. Meanwhile Tex, I believe you were wearing Irishdad out about his clock management skills and Soms about..........well, virtually everything. Ah, those were the good old days.

Been on this board longer than most of the posters who have joined this thread so far and, moc2011, there is no basis for your comments about BCB "taking shots at high schoolers"----unless maybe you are talking about some of the high schoolers who have gotten on here and posted some of the most outrageous and/or inflammatory posts we have had, and make themselves fair game once they do so. Other posters, like yourself, definitely, coaches and fans who deserve to be poked at, yeah (and those probably make up your "silent majority")-----but not the high school wrestlers themselves, unless you call picking the winner of a match, which a lot of people do on here, a personal attack.

Everyone on here knows who BCB is, that he was a high school wrestler himself at EFT, has had two sons who have wrestled at a pretty darn high level in this state, and he has not missed a match, so I think there is some education behind his guesses. Why don't you respond to BCB's request to identify yourself if you are going to take personal shots at him like you have been doing, so the rest of us can see if you are truly an "educated guesser" you want to make yourself out to be and not simply the "uneducated guesser" you accuse BCB of being?

Buck. Thanks for recognizing that was not me. Tex23 is just upset because Cleveland beat up on his Bears this year(like they did in the good old days). I found out who Keef jams was but never discovered Stovepipes identity. I suspect he was from your neck of the woods. He did aggravate and amuse me.

Otherwise, I suggest you grab a rifle and man a post........oops, wrong movie-----just please, get a life, keefie.

BCB---I suggest you ask moc2011 to meet you in the Gold Club parking lot. You seem to have had some success there and, as I recall, Keefie once upon a time agreed to meet you there and then did not show-----now that he has grown up as moc2011, maybe he will do so. You guys can wrestle in the car.

  8. 2 p.m. Sunday.....make plans to be at Maclellan Gym!

I am very excited about seeing this match. Each weight class appearS to be a toss-up. Each team is putting very good wrestlers out at every weight. This match is very important to UTC for seeding at conference. The fan support could be the difference, come help the Mocs kick App St.

  9. Wrestling Fans,

I hope you are making plans to be in Chattanooga Jan. 1 and 2. This might be the best wrestling the South has seen since the early 80's. Let's show the wrestling community the kind of support the south provides to wrestling. For more info go to www.thesouthernscuffle.com or to purchase tickets go to www.gomocs.com or call (423) 266-MOCS.

    "CHATTANOOGA STRONG"

We need a good turn out. I am excited to be able to see the defending nat champs and several of the top wrestlers in the US here in Chatt. A good turnout of fans will help this tourney continue on in future years.

  10. Yeah, kid comes across state lines only because he can be recruited by a private school so not only can he wrestle out of his district but out of his own state as well.

TN sure has some crazy rule differences for D1 and D2.

And I know for sure had he wrestled D1 he would have been far from state champ 5 years in a row. Maybe 2.

He is a great wrestler but some of these 5 and 6 timers might need an * by they're accomplishments because there just arent too many true state champions anymore. I mean come on, theres only like 16 schools in the division.... put that in Sports Illustrated.

It would be hard to say he wouldnt have won it 5 times in D-1. Look at his record each year he competed against the best public and Private schools in TN Ga and each year some tourneys in northern areas. He has very few losses to any TN kids and several victories against the D-1 Tn champs at his weight. Rossville Ga is maybe 3 miles from MCCallie.. Congrats to T J and good luck at MD.

  11. They are making fun of Tenn, in a way. The guys on Cornell's team gave him that name when he got up there. They have entered him by that name for a few years now. At least that is what I have heard, I am pretty sure his first name is not "Hicks" lol

His first name is Hicks and they nicknamed him Hicks because some up north thought it fit. He also Qualified for the NCAAs. Congrats Hicks

  12. Congraulstions err....I mean...Congratiulations ....I mean thanks, I do feel better. :roflol:

I have been Haunted by this Black dress thing and now I remember why. After the finals I went to the downtown Nashville district. I saw a woman in a long Black Bridesmaid dress who was Hauntingly familliar. She had very broad shoulders. When I turned around for a second look she had disapeared. Thinking back she looked very much like Bayou Bear??? Could it be???
