  1. I belive he was kidding, they did lose the game 73-8.

You are obviously right either kidding or hasn't kept up with Culle for the last few years. Even when they had talent they weren't very prepared so you could say coaching but this guy has only been there a couple of years. They are very thin talent wise but enough players to do better than getting waxed like that so I guess you could say it is coaching. I think the guy is well intended but was an assistant baseball coach before he took the girls job so probably not alot of experience. That along with a tough district will make for a long season. Call up the 8th graders and get some experience for the future.

  2. I know alot of people like Shelbyville for the AAA ball. Problem is... their own district is tough enough that they might have a hard time but if that weren't enough go to their website and look at the 5 injuries which 3 are season ending...very little guard play and yes a transfer (Armstrong) who the jury is still way out on. I just think 9AAA has the horses right now and you could pick 1 of 3 Heritage will only go as far a Cait takes them.. if she's injured or in foul trouble, they aren't a very good team so until someone steps up Mt. Juliet still owns the ball and you got to take it away from them.

  3. A- Perry County. They are returning last years Miss Basketball Kristal Edney, Alecia Weatherly who could be a possible Miss Basketball finalist this year, three solid players in Paige Rhodes, Becca Leegan, and Kazeray Dabbs, and also a pretty decent bench player in Jasmine Dixon.

AA- Martin Westview. Everyone is giving the advantage to Dyersburg because of how they did the year before. But I saw Perry County scrimmage both of these teams. Dyersburg ended up beating Perry County(without Kristal Edney) by 2 but they weren't very good. Martin Westview has dominated Perry County(without Kristal Edney) both times they have played them.So I'm favoring Westview to win it all this year.

    AAA- I don't have a clue.

AAA don't have a clue is probably the best prediction I've heard yet. Someone we don't even mention now probably will win

  4. I've heard countless studies done by top college/professional athletic trainers, PT's, and orthos and none of them (that I have heard) lean towards mentral periods being a factor causing injury. Q angel(measurement of femur related to tibia depending on width of hips) and ACL notch are believed to be the primary factors leading to ACL injury.. Womens hips are widder due to child birthing thus increasing Q angle. Women also have a smaller grove for the ACL to travel thru, noticably smaller than men. I also believe that weak quads are a primary injury factor if not the leading injury causing factor to ACL injuries. Plain and simple, girls do not do enough plyo's and quad strengthening.

University of North Carolina (I'll go back and see if I can find it). I never said the study blamed menstration... only levels of hormones at time (primarily before menstration) soften larger bones making them slightly more elastic and therefore less supportive of the surrounding softer tissue (i.e. ligaments and tendons) therefore (in theory) allowing stretch or strain. But also the muscle fatigue factor in weaking support from the musculoskeletal angle. Sorry for the confusion

  5. Crowd control is no issue it wasn't Columbia administration. I think there is some bad vibes from years and years ago in the Summertown/LC rivalry (I was led to believe it was actually from the boys side) but anyway... we'll keep trying. We definitely love having our district partner playing in the Sat. anchor game though and there are other matchups that will come about. We remembered the old Wayne Co and Lawrence Co. matchups which led to this one.

  6. Unionvegas... You'll be 1-3 this year Clarkrange looks good.

Loretto may make it to the glass house but they have injuries

Shelbyville lost the only semblence of a point guard on Friday which makes 2-3 out with season ending injuries and another 1-2 which won't be around till after the holidays. Too much to overcome and district 9AAA has 3 that look much better early. I know the Armstrong transfer at Shelbyville gets attention but jury is way out on that one and the new coach and new system will take a while for everyone (fans included) to get use to. They'll be there again just not this year.

  7. Well bout the only reason it didn't fly was 1 person......an administrator.......and that's all I'm sayin because we are still going to try to pull it off later. Next year we'll be 24 teams 2 gyms except for the night games. Already have teams wanting to come from out of state and in state.

  8. That is the disire of the tournament committee to have a matchup that will peak mainly the local interest on Sat. night. For those hunting games to watch, the Columbia South Gwinnette matchup will be a war. South Gwinnette was one of Columbia's 3 losses last year by 4 at their place in the Deep South Christmas Classic. They eagerly accepted the invite to come to Columbia with the notion they can do it again. They only had 1 senior so it will be an interesting game. I know the Lady Lions have a few games circled on their schedule and this is one of them.

BTW we tried hard to get a Lawrence Co./ Summertown game and came relatively close. Maybe in the future Don't hold your breath on that one though.

  9. Okay you asked for it! Stay with me... Women as you all know have an abundance of different hormonal activity depending on the situation. i.e. menstral, puberty, pregnancy ect. Different things trigger these activities. Having said that (we won't even go into the PMS PMS or DMS) there are factors that we now know that really exist on a team or in a group of females in close contact for long periods of time. Basketball is a good example.

Not being vulger or anything but the tendancy for most (not all) of females to be at or close to the same schedule in terms of their cycle is very common. Now during menstration, there is a period in time when the body thinks it is pregnant even when it is not. There are certain hormones that help soften bones to make it easier for the birth process (pelvic ect.). These also unfortunately for the athlete make all bones a bit more flexible.

At different levels of fatigue, the bones are even more flexible. So having said all that.. During certain times for ladies, at given levels of fatigue and exaustion, it is easier to roll an ankle... flex a knee.. you get the picture and even "coincidental occurances for multiple players.

Studies at UNC indicated from a 2 year period of knee injuries that most occured when the athlete was most fatigued either in practice or game. They suggested frequent hydration and implementing brace wear (if not already) during those times (menstration) when chances were greater. Actually the 2-3 day period prior to menstration (same hormones associated with mood swings ect). Also if possible and the situation allowed itself.. do conditioning and agility drills early in practice and allow breaks. Then the suggestion was to implement a controlled scrimmage situation if it was known that certain players were at a bit more risk which would mean a system of colored wristband or verbally telling a manager or coach who then would know what and what not to do. Of course, a coach would probably not want a player going slower or "controlled" so the main thing was to condition early and hydrated then do game prep last.

There would be definite bugs to work out from a coaching standpoint and the study didn't address these at all. Hope this may shed a small bit of light as to why it may seem weird as to the timing of the injuries.

  10. Okay

    1. coming into Shelbyville on 41a at KFC turn left

    2. go to the 4 way stop where they are building a new Walgreen (Fairfield Pike)

    3. take a right

    4. go through light and next 4 way stop take a left past Akin Elementary

    5. next 4 way stop right and you are there and they have brownish orange signs everywhere pointing the way to the rec center. It is new and way better than playing at old Harris or the old elementry school gym.

  11. rec 1 and 2 are in the same place it is 2 floors under the same roof. Now here is how I go using no street names.

    1. turn on the road at the big horsey show arena and go straight maybe 3 blocks.

    2. You will come to a 4 way stop with the sign pointing to the rec center to the right and you are there.

3 for SCHS you can turn right and cross the railroad tracks and turn left and get to the same road I'm talkin about and you'll be 2 blocks or so away at that point. There are signs everywhere

I"m sure someone with street names will help you. I'll try map quest

  12. Columbia won 46-41. Both teams looked good at times. Both were tennative at first. Wilson Central has a beautiful facility (first time there)

    Summary (very general)

Columbia- looked very solid first 5. (2 injured players not quite ready to rejoin the rotation but will help emmensly when they get back) very athletic As you would expect, Deandra Bullock and Alex Ross led the way with 13 and 14 points. Kinda suprized pleasantly as how they looked. Handled pressure well and good agressive play of WC.

Wilson Central will definately be there in the hunt for 9AAA no doubt but miss Cassy ( I think I spelled that correctly). They have size and speed and are as you would expect very aggressive which will bode well for them. It is early and a rematch certainly would be fun and for that to happen it would mean the glass house in March but alot of ball to be played.

    Both teams are solid contenders.

Hope I didn't bore you with this post but I don't know anyone from WC and I don't even remember numbers (old timers disease)

  13. Were there any restructuring changes in the other region that Region 4 plays in the Sub State? And would that be Region 3? I'm as lost as last year's Easter egg it doesn't do any good to write things down to remember either cause I can't remember where I put it. I think there was a school that moved up to AAA in the Cleveland district but not sure. Thanks

  14. i am going to go ahead and say it now...culleoka girls will win more than 5 games this year...and if you know anything about this district you know that that is a great improvement...keep fighting girls

That would be very unexpected. I just don't see it but hope you are right. They need wins early to build confidence. The new district alignment didn't help them at all. They may indeed have 5 or so wins I just don't think any wins will be in the district.

  15. Franklin Co will do well with Coaches Wild. They are small and quick but it will take time to adjust to a new system. He'll eventually have contenders routinely. Berkey will also do well at Blue and Gold U. His talent pool is slim for a year or so but loaded in the feeders. Their big transfer ( I have to be careful) is way too hard to even venture a guess. Without Jarrell, bench depth is a concern but it is for everyone. I don't know squat about the Tullahoma coach but it has got to be a total restart. All in all, not much change in the district from last year. Columbia probably won't go undefeated again but will be strong. Shelbyville moves up at least a tie now with Lincoln Co for 2. That could all change depending on injuries ect but we all know that. I think it is a coin toss for the rest but top to bottom probably a bit tighter. I don't think the new coaches make a big first year impact or probably do they really want to. Transfers are too hard to predict. Just because they did something at one place doesn't mean they'll necessarily get it done at the next place.
  16. Yes. if you are rehabing an injury try the "Ultimate Ankle". I read a great article in a journal about female sports injuries. Seems there is alot of research on the subject and now we're finding out there is a relationship between hormones and fatigue and injury. I may seek permission to reprint the article or summarize if they don't care.
