  1. A defense is never more challenged then when facing an athletic, hard-nosed QB. I believe Zeman and company will win but if it's a close game that athletic QB is a dangerous weapon. From the film I have been able to watch, what happened to #13? I believe he was the QB against Halls.

Guess that athletic QB came to play.  Still a half to play hopefully the Warriors find a way to slow him down.

  2. Please forgive me Clement Clarke Moore

Twas the night before THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP when all through the land

Not a creature was stirring, not even The Pride of The Valley Band.

The helmets were hung by the lockers with care,

In hopes that game day soon would be there.

The players were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of pick 6's danced in their heads.

And Coach Ross in the film room and I at my desk,

Had just settled down for a 5 minute rest.

When out on the field there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the blinds and threw up the sash.

The moon on the top of the new-fallen rain (LOL)

Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But Zeman and Tuders, in full on game gear.

With a little old coach, running play after play,

I knew right away it was the ghost of Coach Colquette.

Faster than lightning his curses they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and yelled out the plays!

"Now run! now block! now screen and touchdown!

On, first! On, second! On, third and fourth downs.

To the top of the post! to the left of the hash!

Now dash away! Through that d-line with a crash!"

As Warriors before them they could suddenly fly,

When they met with an obstacle, up at the line.

So up to Shoe all the players they flew,

With a team full of heroes; seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen too.

And then, in a twinkling, the day had arrived,

The prancing skunk Golden Tide boys were in front of our eyes.

As was drawn on my board, and seen on my tapes,

Down with that team, wipe the smiles off their face.

The Warrior dressed in his swag, from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were all sharp and his weapons how sharp.

A bundle of footballs he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a Winner, with a scowl on his face.

The Whistle how loud blew with such glee,

Their cleats were all white, and their flags were all flying!

Their chisled bodies were ready for a fight, no man of Tide would ever prevail,

And the red in their eyes was a sign for what was to be.

The chunks of yardage that Zemen, Deion, and Brooks will gain,

Will only disgust the young lads in Black and Gold.

As each parent sits in the stands to cheer their young men on,

You can feel the pride that fills their heart as another Golden Ball comes home!

As I watch Tuders, Willis, Baxter and Henderson take care of the defense,

And I laughed when I saw Peabody players fight and curse in delight with myself!

A quick 3 and out with a shake of his head,

Soon led me to know I had nothing to dread.

He ran not a run, but went straight to the pass, Bryce Massengale was on target,

I grabbed my camera to keep a memory of the fifth golden ball coming to MCHS.

And laying his palm atop his forehead,

Coach Woods finally conceded that his dream job was just a nightmare!

I sprang to my feet, as the ref gave a whistle,

And the Warriors had rushed past the line like missile.

That's when I heard them shout out with glee,

WARRIORS 36, that team out west zero.

Best of Luck - Go Warriors!

  3. 2005 - South Pittsburg was 6 and 0 and Marion County was 2 and 4 entering the game. South Pittsburg had a 60 yard sign hanging on the fence in the stands that read, "you may have the name but we have the game". Marion County had the name and the game that night 13 to 12. Van Kinsey made a goal line tackle on a two point conversion at the end of the game to seal the deal.

2004 wasn't bad either watching Scott Wilson catch that 85 yard pass from Travis Jones with 1:25 left in the 4th qtr. MC 27 SP 22

  4. Old pirate or ambassador here's you a question. During this rivalry has there ever been a time either team has been a heavy favorite and the other team won?

  5. With Boyd winning their District, they will likely remain in their natural quad.  The way things stand, there will be 3 teams shifting east from Quad 4 (likely not that many after next week).  That would put 2 teams out of Quad 3 into Quad 2.  Whitwell and Jackson County would likely end up in Quad 1 as a result.

Who do you think Whitwell might be playing in this sceniro?

  6. I like whitwells style and grit. At the end the game their players were crying. That tells me several things. They believe in themselves and put in 110% effort to win, not to lose. I hope they do well the rest of the season. As for the Pirates. They are down and everyone outside of the town is absolutely loving it. Some keep talking about Halloween night. Sounds to me it's the same up the road as it always has been. Their championship game is the rivalry game. If the warriors don't start setting their goals higher they will never be the top dawg in the valley again...just saying. I wish all valley teams well, always will. Back to SP. Listen. I am beginning to see some things, and I hope I'm wrong. Politics and small town football is not a good combination. It needs to end. I'm not saying people haven't earned their stripes, but I know of 4 boys that need to be in the mix or the bread and butter of next years team will be playing for another team.

Thanks for the comment about our players. I agree Coach Helton has brought a new attitude to the program. The most important thing is the parents and players have bought into it and believe they can win. We had over 400 yards of offense last night. It was not SP being so awful, maybe we should give credit to number 10, 7, 21, 43, 5, 18, and the offensive line for their performance. We are Whitwell and darn proud of it!!

It was a more powerful word used where darn was inserted by the computer.

  7. I couldn't help but think that Coach could have found someone roaming the halls that can kick a football. It wasn't just the kicking game it was their entire special teams.

How many yards were gained by punt returners for Marion?  Every punt tonight by Whitwell was unreturnable, if that is a word, except one and gained at least 30 yards of field position for the Tigers.  Instead of Marion getting the ball inside the 10 yard line, like last week against Midway, they got it at the 40 or more.  I would call that a vast improvement.  Whitwell's punting and kicking game will not make a lot of highlight reels but I will take the improvement every week.  On the other hand, Whitwell got a standing ovation by several spectators after the first punt.  :)

  8. The best teams on Whitwell's schedule are Sequatchie County, Marion Co and South Pittsburg. They have a great shot of winning 7 games.

  9. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all who were a part of making the 2014 Sequatchie Valley Jamboree a success. While there were numerous people in our community who were involved, I want to specifically thank the Whitwell Quarterback Club, our Principal Teena Casseday, Assistant Principal and Director of Football Operations Paul Underwood, Director of Schools Mark Griffith, and the Marion County School Board. There are many others who contributed that worked quietly, humbly, and tirelessly to ensure a smooth-running event. We appreciate the participating schools, their coaching staffs and their administrations. Lastly we want to thank the fans from all of the participating schools, who support football and what it represents for our society, and for our young men who will be the future leadership of our country and our respective communities. Thanks to all of you!

Great job Coach.  Keep up the good work.

  10. I thought everything went well tonight at Vernon Holtcamp Field. I thought by selling the tickets in four different areas and the two pass gates helped in getting the crowd into the stadium quickly. We did not run out of items at the concession stands, including ice and hamburgers. Many different areas selling items. Having the lights on in the baseball and softball areas helped with people being able to park in several areas. Lot of police on the scene. Had to wait a long time for the injured player to get an ambulance, prayers to him and his family. I believe things were organized What does everyone else think?

  11. Don't suppose you could post here which side of the field each teams fans sections are located to help folks find their seats faster? Thanks!

We have signs that will designate each fan base to their respected seating. I do not have that information with me right now. Please remember for those that do not have tickets prior to arriving at Whitwell High School, we have four places that will be selling tickets. One will be near the entrance to the softball parking area, another will be near Whitwell Elementary, another will be near the high school and the last one will be the ticket booth going into the stadium. The coaches and AD's meet in the spring and set the price for everyone at $6.00. Once you buy your ticket we have two places designated for pre-sell tickets. Give your ticket to the person at one of the gates and come right in. If everything goes as planned, wait time getting into the stadium will be very little. Once inside the stadium we will have several different areas that will be selling concessions, from the normal hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken strips, ice cream, funnel cakes, cotton candy, candy bars, and a host of everything else. The local banks and community businesses will be selling and giving out items. Pee-Wee Morrison will be selling team shirts for every team. The list goes on and on.

I want to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to MC Schools Director Mark Griffith, Sheriff Bo Barnett, Teena Casseday, Gerald Bone, Pat Ables, Gerald Thomas, Kenneth Kilgore and all the maintenance men of the Marion County Schools, Allen Holloway, Bo Nunley, Junior Atterton and crew, Shane Kilgore and the QB Club, Derrin Easterly, John Weiss, the City of Whitwell (especially the Whitwell Fire Department!!), The guys who put the trim around the pee-wee concession building this afternoon, and all the others I cannot remember!! If it was not for these folks working their rear-ends off we could not have the place ready for a great night of football in the beautiful Sequatchie Valley!! THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!!
