  1. OK, brawl may have been a little overboard. With the ejection of the big lineman TJ Lynn in the latest game against Sequoyah, Tellico's lineman are in for a long night without their bruising guard. This week and next week (vs Grundy) should be a good time to get some work for the backups for the Chargers.

What happened with TJ that doesn't sound like him?

  2. Create an excel file and "sync" it with the handheld, if the handheld has excel. With excel you can sync it back to the desktop and create all kinds of "nifty" reports. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

  3. It's kind of an unwritten rule that most coaches will not attend scrimmages of opponents in the preseason. I know this isn't always done, and we had to ask people to leave once. (Kind of like being a coach at Seq. and showing up in all your Chiefs gear to watch a Sweetwater or Tellico scrimmage.) It is OK to encourage players to attend, though. This is just a type of sportsmanship.

At one time, I think the TSSAA had rules about cameras in the stands as well, meainging if a coach points out that another team is there recording, they can be asked to leave as well. Don't know if they still do or not.

Most coaches I think would rather spend the time concentrating on how they can improve their team instead of watching another. Sorta like "Control what you can." You can't control what your opponent does (dictating what they do on a Friday night is different), you can control your team. So if I had the opportunity to attend a scrimmage or work on some items for offense or defense on my team, I am sitting home/office working on the stuff I can control.

  4. I have no clue what they are going to do. I haven't been to Tellico since Father's Day weekend and it will probably be September before I get to come "home" again. I saw one half of a game last year, and that was the Howard game. Plus if we travel up it takes about 6.5 hours or more to get there with the little one. I may try to sneak home for a day or so, between summer session and fall session, which isn't a big break. /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

I kind of hope they move down, that may give them a better shot at the playoffs. Coach Hunt does a great job, I think everyone else is back as well (coaches wise), not really sure though. I would love to get back into coaching, when I get back over the hills, but there isn't many opportunities to teach at a college in the area (TWC).

Yeah Kim, Dena, Pat and the rest of the crew do a great job over there. I had the privilege to have that after every home game.

    Go BEARS!!

  5. Is this Mike Cathey? How are things going in South Carolina?

Yeap, it's me. Yeah I did stay busy. When I was coaching at Tellico, Coach Hunt brought in film of the OS game, regular season and the kids always made comments about me, of course they didn't know it was me until he said something. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Things are good here. Stay really busy with school and my daughter. Only kind of football I get around now is Flag Football, since I teach that course down here. I hope to be done by August 2010 and be looking for job back in TN.

    Who is this?

  6. Tellico had a pretty good team in 1994. We ran the Notre Dame Box, and had a huge, dominating Offensive Line. We were 8 - 0 before we lost to Meigs County, who was ranked number 1 in the State. We crushed a terrible Madisonville team 54 - 6, and defeated a pretty good Sequatchie County team 9 - 7. We defeated Smith County and Oliver Springs in the playoffs, before falling to Onieda 28 - 14. As much as I like Coach Liles, that was one of the worst coached games I have ever seen. Still though, it was a heck of a year, especially in Tellico.

And Sequoyah's best team was in 1999. Yeah, we beat them that year too!!!!!!!!!!

Probably the best team from Tellico is the 1959 team, 9 -0 record, gave up only 32 points all season, scored 255. Coach Spurling had an incredible run while at Tellico. Some of the members of the 1959 Team were: Ed Phillips, Pete Hunt, Pat Wilson, Delano Raby, Don Britton, Kenneth Murphy...amongst others. I actually have some pictures of that team and met most of them and talked a good bit to them.

94 team was good. Great OL with some hard nosed running backs. Still got some of the tapes from then, actually I put them on DVD now. I actually hadn't watched the Oneida game completely until about 2 years ago, I couldn't bring myself to watch it.

    My how things have changed.

    Go Bears!!

  7. Well maybe that's because he only produced 10 wins in 4 seasons OR maybe it's because 95% of the Football team threatened to sit out if he remained the head coach..... doesn't seem to me like they let him go just for this new coach...... /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

PLUS this went before the Board TWICE and was rejected TWICE... if they let the last coach go for this one, why would they reject him twice.....

Check your facts before you make comments like these.

When should players be able to dictate the coach?

  8. I found a Helmet website thats interesting. He does the helmets you request, so its a great tool especially for fans. Let's see if we can get every team in TN on the page.

    www.Mghelmets.com

I talked to him the other day and he did Tellico and Polk County's (I had a picture of the two playing so I had him do both) within no time.

    Very nice stuff.

    Michael Cathey

    Go Bears!

  9. He coached at Pigeon Forge High School in Tennessee for one year. We played them in the opening game that season, they were a spread team.

He left after the year. Couldn't tell you much other than the people in the area at that time were not happy with him from what I heard. No clue why, just what I heard from someone up there.

  10. I think there are many contributing factors. (including)

1 - Student/palyer personalities - believe it or not some kids don't like sports

2 - Parents - some parents won't let the kids play.

3 - Coaches - Yes, Coaches, as a former coach/player, some coaches can just ruin your experiences on a field and turn the kids away from the program. (The coach is considered lazy, or just not liked or what not.)

4 - Parents (again) - Grow a backbone and tell your kid no you can't do that, you're not the boss, as long as you live under my house you go by my rules. There are way to many situations where the "inmates run the asylum."

5 - Youth/AAU Coaches - Stop burning the kids out, they don't have to play football/baseball/soccer/basketball from the time they are 5 to 18, year round. It is still a game. Let them have fun.

6 - Parents - Guess what, 98-99% of student athletes don't play college ball, there is a reason for that, in a phrase "Little Johnny is not that good", no matter how much smoke goes somewhere.

7 - Players - stop playing to get a scholarship, play to have fun and win, the rest will take care of itself.

Granted, I loved playing sports, but I worked, played sports, fished and chased girls. I made time for all of them. This may sound crazy but the girls looked prettier after a win, the work seemed easier after a win, and school was a whole lot more fun after a win, when you lost everything was worse.

I hate losing to this day, do most kids hate losing, nah they are worried about the dance after the game.

  11. Form a new conference with the smaller age groups. I am not from Madisonville or Vonore, I am a Tellico boy, and I agree that all of the Middle schools in the county should have Football and Baseball teams. This will help in the competitive progress of each of the schools as well as helping them being accumated to the teaching process.

I think that if the rules are adjust or manipulated to creating a new conference that does not include the Juniors if so, that would not be a huge problem, then there could also be those who do not want to participate at the JR level and may still participate in the junior league.

    Just my opinion.

  12. Tellico had severall players out when I went in to watch (Howard). Eric (QB), Phillip (C/LB) Zeke (G/DL)and Adam (WR/DE) were all expected to be big contributors but have been out for a while. Phillip should be able to play soon, I don't know about the rest. Hopefully they are getting to be full strength this week.

With Eric out as QB, the other QB is 14, losing your starting QB is a hard task for anyone, but having a 14 yr old QB for the Varsity is tough. The name escapes me, but I think its Josh (?) (I can't remember them all.).

This is a rebuilding year as most people knew in Tellico losing a ton of seniors as well changing head coaches.

With all of the changings of the head coach in the past couple of years Coach Hunt has stepped up and decided to lead the team, give him time and we will see how things work out, I really believe that he will be successful.

Go Bears. Bears upset the Chiefs 22-20.
