  1. has anyone seen the movie kingpin? well towards the end the annoucer says something about high calibur athletes in the sport, then shows some HUGE bowler eating something or drinking something

thats my opinion, take from it what you will

i saw kingpin. whos the girl in it, cause she is fine.

This is about sports not movies.......read the credits if you want to know who the hot girl is.

Exactly....if you aren't talking about sports get off.

Kingpin's the coolest. Actually, I just wanted to continue that cool multi-window quote thing...

thats the funniest thing i've ever heard..........Not.

You know, I might cry. That really hurt my feelings. I spent a long time trying to come up with that very witty post, and then you went and trashed it. I hope you feel like a big man now.

  2. I missed the game (one of the few CPA games I missed, so I can't comment on the reffing, except to say high school refs are typically not very good anyway. I don't think it is a bias to one team - they just aren't very good.

What is funny is your comment about the need for a shot clock as a FRA fan. Their whole offense is built around slowing the game down and using up clock. And they do a good job at it. I don't think their coach would agree with you.

If there was a shot clock, we would still use a lot of clock by working the entire shot clock down and then shooting at the end. If the TSSAA instituted a shot clock, it would be pretty long- so I dont think it would speed us up much.

I realize thats refs are bad both ways, but because CPA was good at leaning into shots and drawing contact, they got more shooting fouls called for them.

  4. Your question is irrelevant. He was never going to attend a regular public high school. When he was in 8th grade, and getting all the attention, his mother said it was between Brentwood Academy, Goodpasture and MLK magnet.

BTW, BA does not have a lot of players from "all over Middle Tennessee". They all live in Williamson or Davidson Counties. The majority are from Williamson.

sounds like someone else trying to defend the "shady rumors" of the past involving BA. Im sure you probably think Brandon Wright came to BA because its a fine academic institution, right? Im not trying to pick a fight- even though I know Ill get one from this- I just find it funny how many people I know from BA who try to convince people that they dont, never have, and never will recruit in an illegal manner...

Maybe you shouldve answered his question instead of chastising him for being curious. I think he was merely wondering where Wright was zoned for, not accusing you of recruiting like you seemed to think from your answer.

  5. CPA is looking pretty good after beating a good fra team by 4 when they weren't playing well at all, and to the Temple fan, that is not a great comparison because college heights matches up way better with CPA than Temple does. I don't think Temple has anyone that can stop Sikes.

Were you at the CPA FRA game? Because, being there, I could tell you that CPA may not have played well as a team, but Andrew House hit just about every shot he took and they had some other great performances as well. It seems youre trying to make CPA seem even better than they are as if FRA isnt a worthy opponent. This comment is going to seem biased because Im an FRA fan, but the refs were calling terrible fouls both ways. They didnt let either team play. The difference was that nearly every foul called on CPA was a nonshooting foul, while CPA got a million calls in the paint. Just be warned if your team plays CPA, they lean in and jump into defenders every time they go inside. Our big men were just standing straight up by the end- not even trying to defend the shot, just having their hands up, and the refs were still calling fouls every time CPA shot just because they purposely jumped into FRAs bodies. Obviously, it worked for them, and they won, but I couldnt believe the refs called over 25 fouls total in the second half. That game was also a good argument for a shot clock- if a team down by one has to start fouling with over a minute left, somethings wrong....hope the TSSAA fixes that.

  6. Well Puckett only had 17 so i would say that the "freshman that never plays" did a pretty good job.

Well, I would say that Puckett is the one who "did a pretty good job." Think about it, you just said that a player on the winning team who scored a third of his team's total points was contained well. Regardless of how many points he normally scores, in a low scoring game, 17 is a lot. heck, Id be happy with 17 anytime.

  7. Wow, Ive missed out on a great thread. While I have no strong personal opinion on the subject, I find it very impressive that even when several different people from schools all across the midstate post about how "dirty" a player Anderson is, you dismiss them as retards or morons. It would seem that if an opinion is held so widely, and that the majority of the people who disagree are extremely biased on the subject (alumni, NCS players, etc.) that its probably correct, and you would do yourself and your school a favor by letting the subject die instead of making it glaringly obvious that you are biased and refuse to concede when someones right.

I do however have an opinion on the other main topic of this thread- as soon as teams learn to keep NCS from shooting threes (even if they have good inside shooting as well), 70% of their offense is gone and they will lose most of the time. And trust me, in the state and region tournaments, you dont have to go very far to find a team who knows how to stop a 3 point shooter. Just something to think about...

  8. Now, about the running...no everyone cannot run a 400. A 400 is one of the most grueling races. In fact, I've seen sprinters and distance runners run it and ya know what...both say its grueling. If u know about sprinting u will know that a 53 is pretty darn good, infact, the fastest in the state was only a 49. When I ran the 53, i was in good condition, I could run 5 miles jogging. If you think a 400 is easy, go run against some top sprinters who run in the low 50's I bet they whip you. To run a 100 or 200 you don't need endurance, it will help some, but its not needed so much.

I garauntee that any sub 4:30 miler or sub 9:40 2miler in the nation could run a 53. Dont be so proud of how hard your event is. I run everything from 400 to 3200 and the 3200 is the hardest because the pace is not much slower than the 1600, but its 2times as long. Also, who are you trying to impress by being able to jog 5 miles anyway? we have throwers who can do that and theyre lazier than sprinters.

  9. Wheres Coasterborder??

Hey, actually, Ive been out of town for a few days- I didnt even know we lost until just now. Hopefully we can prove that we're better than we played last night with a good game against forrest today...

  10. GO FRA CROSS COUNTRY!!! STATE CHAMPS BABY!!!

Icant tell if this is sarcastic, but Im pretty sure you dont care anything about FRA cross country. You know I run because the fridge told you, but Im pretty sure you dont know who I am. So, if by the off-chance Im wrong, and you really are a closet-supporter, disregard this post, but when was the last time NCS won state in anything? (and your projected basketball championship this season doesnt count)

  11. Eagle,

It's funny that when you win, the officiating is fair, when you lose it's bad officiating. In high school, you better accept poor officiating and learn to overcome it or you will whine all the way to an early exit from the playoffs.

Amen, if bad officiating happens in a game, its unfortunate, but its also going to go both ways. in high school, bad calls are made by bad refs- not good refs with grudges against your school. Ive seen you post about poor officiating in games several times, and trust me, everyone would like to blame the refs for the loss, but its never the refs fault. Its hard sometimes, but if you just chill out and realize that its just high school basketball, youll realize how little it matters. Besides, you cant do anything about it anyway, so why whine about it?

  12. Alright, your logic makes some sense (although acheiving a 53 is pretty solid), but I still don't see how this makes bowling any less of a sport? If you have to be naturally skilled to be great for something to be a sport, then that sort of takes the fun out of training- there would be no point in practicing.

  13. CosbyEagle nothing would make me happier than for you to tell me all about Cosby. Shooters? Size? Depth? Coaching? The only relation i could really make is when i thought before they had beaten the Grace Baptist Academy team from Chatt. by like 40, a team my team, NCS, lost to with a buzzer beater tip-in (shouldn't have been in the situation but we lost nonetheless). Thank you very much for clearing that up and any information you could give me on Cosby would be great. From what i can tell through box scores, strength of schedule so far, and wins they are real solid. Thank you.

Nice try, Big48. I know Ive tried that many times in the cross country boards. If you find a way to ask that works, let me know....

  14. As a runner I can tel you that nothing is harder than a 400. Its a sprint, but its long enough to make your body scream. I think its the most mentally distressing run in sports. After about 300 meters or so you're body tells you to stop, to give up...and you can't! If you're running with someone, or competiting against someone for a certain place you have to actually push yourself harder. Thats where the race is won and lost. In running its easy to make up your mind before he race that you lost. Seeing a runner ahead of you doesn't make you fight harder but it makes you give up. Now in bowling its not quite as embarrassing to lose big as it is in running. Especially when you're running and you have 100 meters left and the person infront of you is across the finish line, it makes some people want to give up. In bowling, you've always got a chance up until almost the very end. Unless you're horrible and the other guy is exceptional, in that case...u shouldn't be bowling. If you just can't get the pins to fall its a let down, but its you're fault. If you can't beat someone and they whip you, its not really you're fault, its because they're better. Having to admit someone is better is much tougher than having to admit that you just had a bad day.

so... being slow isnt your fault? Lets look at it this way:

In Track, if you get killed in a race, the explanation should be that you didnt train as much or as well as the person who beat you. How is that any different than someone bowling 6 games of practice a day over the summer and coming in and putting up an average that is untouchable. No one is perfect, so if you get down a lot to your opponent by the 5th frame, its very unlikely that you will all of a sudden become better and knock more pins down. The same is true in track, if at the 300 meter mark of a 400 meter race, you are losing bad, its unlikely that you will catch up. Both are direct results of training and ability, neither is a self-determined level of competence. Sure, in bowling, you can get all strikes and no one could beat you, but thats the equivilant of someone running a 43 second 400 every time- its unrealistic. While track is much more physically demanding than bowling, saying that bowlers can determine their own destiny in a match more than a sprinter can is a hard point to sustain.

And yes, I mean during the race, Bergil

  15. I get what your saying about basketball and getting into their head, but running? When you go out and start a race your not thinking about what the guy next to you and what his time is, and if you are you are doing it to push yourself to run that much faster. so i still dont get what your saying about running. but in bowling if you tell someone your bowling average then the whole match your opponent knows that they have to bowl so many strikes and if they get behind they are trying to gain it back the rest of time.

Youre half right, bowling is mental, as is every sport (including fuseball). But running is definately mental, so I dont agree with what you said there. Long distance races are the most intense physical and mental events in sport. Not only do you have to be in ridiculously good shape to win, but for good runners, every move, every surge, every positioning yourself strategically is part of a mental chess match which can ultimately cause an opponent to lose focus, hope, and speed. Running is not about going out and running as fast as possible- if it was, then the best atheletes would always win. As it is, long distance running especially is often won by the one who can run a strategic race which takes advantage of his strong points while mentally draining his opponent.

  16. Bowling is always a hobby, no matter how seriously you play it. You're competiting against yourself, against your own personal best in order to beat others. You cannnot effect their play and they cannot effect yours, you decide your own destiny. Most other sports require a head to head contact, most of them require personal battles against someone as well as team battles. Bowling is a one on one, you against yourself. Thats why I don't think bowling is ever a sport.

You bring up three main interesting points, and I will address each individually:

    1. If competing against yourself without your opponents having any direct effect on the outcome determines sport, youre going to have a lot of angry golfers willing to argue with you also.

    2. As far as team and personal battles go, bowling definately pits one team against another, so I dont know how you can say theres no team competition, and Ive bowled the highest game on my team, but still lost my head to head match, so head to head matchups definately exist.

    3. And once again, If competing against yourself without your opponents having any direct effect on the outcome determines sport, then my point continues, FUSEBALL is a sport.

Finally, there is no specific definition to give to "sport" because if there was, there would be enough exceptions and loopholes to call tiddlywinks a sport. So, eventually, it just comes down to personal opinion, and while youre entitled to your own opinion, I think bowling in a team setting is a sport.

  17. Think about it this way, if I go out and jog a lap around the track by myself, runnings not a sport, but if I spike up and compete in a track meet, its a sport. Same with bowling- if I go out with some friends and we rent some shoes and down a couple pitchers (soda of course) and have ourselves a jolly-good time, bowlings not a sport, but if were all with our team competing in a match or practice, its a sport. There isnt too much more to debate, call it a sport if you want, dont call it one if you dont want. There are still people who would tell me that cross country isnt a sport because theres no ball, so obviously, people are going to debate whether or not bowlings a sport...

  18. ...Now the basis of bowling is a lot like skeeball, so why isn't skeeball a sport? Its the same principle, only futher and heavier and with pins....

and not with little holes, and not an arcade game, and with 10 pins not 10 balls, and not a coin-op system, and points aren't lit up in neon and flashing lights, and the names different, ........etc........ but besides that, theyre identical- skeeball should definately be a sport.

Actually now that I think about it, soccer and fuseball are a lot alike, they go back and forth and you try score in a goal, and there are 11 little men in shorts, and theres a goalie,...............so why isnt fuseball a sport?

  19. Bowling looks to be easier than it is. I mean you have to perfect one motion and you should get a strike every time. I would compare it to shooting a free throw in basketball. all you do is get to the line and do the same motion over and over. there is nothing to prevent you from doing the same thing ever time. so why is bowling hard?

If I could answer that, I probably wouldnt be a 170 average bowler.
