1. Hmm.. You wouldn't be referring to FRA would ya? If you are, it's nothing to really boast about since most of the A-AA teams would get demolished if they were in AAA.

Well, I would hope so- especially since the minimum number of students in a AAA school is nearly FIVE times the enrollment of FRA. I think that taking a squad of about 9 from a student body of 300 and turning 5 of those 9 guys into a state contender against schools in AA with enrollments of over 1100 is something to boast about, and I will continue to boast about it. However, in this case, I was not boasting, necessarily, I was merely showing tribealltheway the error in his statement.

O, and, if you are running 100 miles a week, you should be able to break 18 minutes with your eyes closed at the end of a 15 mile run, much less in the first race of the season- hard course or not.....

  2. Why would you run 100 miles a week training for a 3 mile race.  That is just stupid.  When you run that far you run slow which gives you endurance.  They are probably running 8 min. miles.  That just doesn't make you faster in cross country.

Wow, its amazing how much confidece you guys assert in the very sparse knowledge you have about the sport.

I guess I'll start with the first guy to post after my last post:

Bumbi is holding no less than 70 miles a week, with 85 as his peak- not quite 100- so much for your "guarantee"

However, in response to the other poster, 100 miles a week is not uncommon amongst elite high school runners. Typically, the top few runners in the nation will run over 100 a week, and so Bumbi is obviously an exception.

Also, when running 100 miles a week, you don't have to run 8 minute miles. For example, when I ran 73 miles a couple weeks ago, I averaged around 6:40 pace for the week, and that still isn't enough to keep up with Bumbi for more than 6 or so miles the times Ive run with him. The point of high mileage is to build a strong aerobic threshold over a great deal of QUALITY miles. Example- running 8:30 pace at the end of a 12 mile run because you started out too fast is not quality, but starting out at 7:30 pace and ending the 12th mile at under 6 minute pace is very quality. The more quality miles you can tally in one week, the faster you'll be able to run any distance from 800 up, basically. There are pro milers who run as many miles or close to as many miles as pro marathoners. The difference is that on top of all that base training, the milers are throwing in a lot of speed work...

  3. of all the people that have posted i believe mcminn is the only team with a state championship in the last five years please correct me if i am wrong

    825318383

Does winning 5 of the last 7 including the last 4 in a row, with one of them setting the state record for lowest score in the state meet count?

  4. Alright, I saw that this aspect of the Region 3 race was left out. BCHSTrack, Im sure you were about to start one, but I thought Id go ahead and get it up- I couldnt take waiting any longer.

I think if this is successful (or even if its not....) Ill go ahead and make separate threads for the girls and guys region 3 AAA COY, then Ill make a thread for the girls and guys A-AA region 3 COY, and then after that, I might go ahead and make an all encompassing thread that discusses the finer points that we cant aptly discuss in all these separate threads (like course terrain, fan support, weather, etc.)

Alright, let the discussion begin... thumb

  5. How is FRA? Are they as good as last year?

    825303871

FRA was good last year? They went into state with most people predicting them to finish around fifth in this order: Sullivan Central, CCS, Lipscomb, Elizabethton, FRA

So, e-town, in answer to your question- FRA loses its #1 and #2 runners (both top 10 finishers at state during highschool) and their next guy finished mid-twenties at state, so on paper, it looks like you should be worrying about some other teams. No one ever worried about FRA during 3 of the last 4 seasons, so why start now?

  6. I'll get things started with our two oldest guys' runs:

    Monday - 7 am, 7 pm

    Tuesday - 7 am, 11 pm (7 AT run)

    Wednesday - 7 am, 7 pm

    Thursday - 5 am, 11 pm (5 LT run)

    Friday - 7 am, 7 pm

    Saturday - 10 (7 AT run)

    Sunday - 14

    Striders on Wednesday and Saturday.

    Not a bad week.

    825296134

two mcminn guys ran 100 miles? yea............

anyway, Im not going to lie about my mileage- here's what I ran (in mpw, starting a few weeks ago):

    -41

    -40

    -47

    -51

    -50 (last week)

    - This week, my goal is 65 (70 if I feel good about it)

goals the rest of the summer:

    -another 65-70

    -60

    -45

    -50

  7. OK, Im testing the coasterboarder name.... it hasnt been working lately, even though I have always been able to type a message it wouldnt ever appear in the thread. So, I switched to coasterboarding......

edit: yay, it worked; however, my original request (which you are moderating right now under "coasterboarding" still stands- I still would like back coasterboard and my moderating seat. Thanks...

  8. From the people who brought you CC champ Ryne Sexton come the next two thumbs up feature. Presented in really fast format is Tony Riggs. From Station Camp coming to a track near you, this little 'squeak can do a full fledged mile in 5:18 and he's not even a freshman yet.

Thats almost faster than squeaky himself ran this year...

  9. When's everyone begin their training for Cross? Im doing three weeks of insane biking for cross training then building up to about 60 max MPW before college starts.

    What's everyone else planning?

-just so whoever moved the last thread titled like this knows, I am not a plus member, therefore, I shall continue to post about cross country in the track forum until coacht deems it "fall sports season"

  10. Former MUS and current Navy midfielder Ben Bailey concluded a very impressive career by being named NCAA Div I. Third team All-American today. He was also selected to the first team all Patriot league midfield line. Congrats to Ben. His accomplishments make him the second Tennessean recognized by the NCAA as an All-American.

I just want to congratulate Ben- he's a great LAX player and an even greater man- best of luck as your career continues...

  11. After weeks of deliberation I have found the best raquet stringer: Michael Winslow

You should see the way he strings that raquet in Naked Gun and then proceeds to play it like a musical intrument at the party around the fire. Amazing!

    Good call, matey...

  12. fra lost at least 5 seniors they will still be good though, cpa will have i think 8 starting seniors next year and they were 4 minutes away from upseting fra in district semis this year, cpa will be hungry next year for a return to state

    four minutes and two overtimes....

  13. Vanderbilt does have a very nice track...but their stadium is nowhere near big enough to seat all the people that the state track meet has there watching. I totally disagree that the state meet should be held there.

    Temporary Bleachers bud

Best track in state+best central location+temporary bleachers= Best State meet to date!

  14. If the TSSAA really and truly cared about track, several things would be done differently.

    1) State meet would be held at Vanderbilt on the Mondo track, the only mondo track in the state of TN.

    2) The meet would have qualifying and finals, thereby circumventing this process at sectionals. This would ensure that the best truly are the best. Teams would no longer be penalized for existing in stacked sections

    3) Throwers, field event people, and 3200 runners would get a spot in prime time. Right now, there is a blatant disrespect for these athletes, as their events are shifted to midday, the hottest time of day, consequently the time when the fewest people are there to watch.

    4) There would be fewer than the 150 paid officials in the infield. To successfully run a track meat, no more than 30 are needed. Timers, starter, check-in guy, hurdle crew, that's it. With fewer officials, the meet would run much faster.

    5) Frugality would be an increased concern. TSSAA would not spend all their money on buying those shirts and straw hats for officials.

    6) Admission and parking prices would be lowered to encourage more people to come. $7 for admission and another $5 for parking is rediculous. There are better ways to make money like having a good concession stand.

    7) The track meet would be held in Nashville, Chattanooga, or Knoxville. Memphis only has one interstate going into the city that people from the rest of the state use to get there. This is I-40. Nashville, Chatanooga, and Knoxville have multiple interstates running into the city that Tennesseans would use (Nashville I-24, I-40; Chattanooga I-24, I-75; Knoxville I-40, I-75). The 12-hour drive from the Tri-Cities area is intolerable because it can be avoided by moving the meet to a different site.

Seriously, there is so much the TSSAA could do to make the Track State Meet so much better. Why have it in the least central location when a better track is available in the most central location?

well sir, i am all for getting it in Nashville, but then FRA and Lipscomb might have a little "homefield" advantage.

    just a thought??

Yea, I guess we should have the meet somewhere where there are no highschools within a 50 mile radius, thus eliminating "home-field advantage", lets say.....North Dakota....?

  15. I don't really follow track much, but I do follow Coacht and I was reading this. Congratulations to "Bumbi" an a great season and congrats to Strang as well. Now, now mom, let's be nice on here, I understand that you did recognize the talent of both runners, but funny how your intuition comes up now that the meet is over. I only reread this thread not any others, but I did not see you calling Strang as the winner of anything. I saw where you hoped he would win at least one. Anyway, good job to all of those who qualified for state, that is quite an accomplishment.

lol- surely you're not suggesting that anyone would jump on Strang's bandwagon after the race much like the way it happened when he beat Bumbi at FL regionals?

  16. How can you disrespect one of only 2 runners under 15 at state CC this year and the top TN footlocker regionals finisher?

Unfortunately for Strang, the other under 15 was 13 seconds ahead of him and then came back and beat him at footlocker nationals.

Strang is indeed a national caliber runner. Its unfortunate for him that he has to share the limelight with bumbi.

I respect Strang a whole lot, although Id probably respect him more if I knew him and if saw him run as much I see Bumbi run. But the fact is, I dont know him or see him a lot, so I have to go by times. And the times say that Strang is a great runner (Colorado is one heckuva a running school) but Bumbi is better, and I think hes enough better to win 3 events Friday- Strang or no Strang...

  17. Are teams like FRA and CA going to Division II next year or what?

Man, I sure hope so- they absolutely dominate everything- especially the major sports that the TSSAA is concerned with (Basketball, Football, and Baseball). If they dont get moved into DII where they can compete with schools of their own calbier soon, there may be an uprising of all these poor teams they keep beating up on.....
