  1. Id say the early favorites (out of the sections I know) are:

    A/AA- Spencer Whittier, Daniel Jones

AAA- I really dont know so Im not going to list anyone so I dont get slammed when it turns up one of the guys is a 1600/800 runner...

    DII- Some Bumbi kid, Strang

I obviously have a very limited knowledge base in this. I could tell you PRs for just about every runner in the Nashville a-aa sectional race, but as far as statewide goes, thats the best I can do...

Also, Sparx, who are you and who do you run for? I think every post Ive ever seen you make has been about the 3200.

  2. Not to put a downer on your ineffable wisdom, but just because a team hasnt been sending results to your list doesnt mean that they dont have quality times.

You dont even have Great Eight results listed, so if youre basing your predictions off of your website, you need to get some better midstate data, ans if youre just basing this on what you know, you really need to know what youre talking about before you post.

Yes, a-aa is weaker than aaa and DII this year, but thats the same as every year and Raleigh-Egypt is no exception. Having Joyner does not mean that theyre above the rest of the state.

My top two would be Fayette-Ware and FRA, but I dont know why you even listed FRA- according to your list, they have no quality times, and they wont have any chance at the title. The only reason theyll even get second is because the rest of the teams are awful....wait- that sounds familair, almost like its been said in years past...

  3. Hey, we have 32 teams in our sectional, split ours up before you do anything else :D

That gives a theoretical limit of 96 entries in the 3200m...wouldn't that be cool?

If by cool, you mean absolutely unnavigatable for the first 2 laps, and absolutely frustrating from all the lap traffic when you lap people starting around lap 4, then yes, it sounds cool...

  4. The reason that Page is in the Chattanooga section is because in the section that they would be in there are only about 4 schools that have a track and field team. That would not be quite fair to allow all those kids to go to state since their is not much competition. It is a shame that more schools in that area of the state do not have track programs. They need to find a coach who is willing to develop a program.

So.....if more teams in that area had teams, there would be 5 sections? That would throw a proverbial monkey wrench into the state qualifying system now wouldnt it...?

  5. Here's the funny thing...I don't think Lavergne and Siegel are in the same section. Lavergne is in our section (the Nashville section) and I think Siegel is in the Tullahoma section. And both schools are in the same county. Weird.

The TSSAA makes so much sense.... its much like how Page is in the Chattanooga Section even though theyre just south of Nashville....

  6. Mmm...I'm guessing it is not really smart to belittle the intelligence of a board moderator...unless you are looking for a forum ban.

yea, respect my authority- what he said.... actually I dont really care, but it kinda ticked me off that my post got me labelled "over obsessive" like Im some kind of Bumbi-worshipper. I dont really think its too unreasonable to say that a Junior whos 12 seconds off the national 2-mile record is capable of running sub-4...

  7. He is a sophmore i just looked that up. Yea that would be awesome if both of them could get bumbi to run the 2 mile and the mile next year and actually be right with him the whole way.

hmm, it looks like the post I was responding to was saying that it would be awesome if Hannah and Abtahi could stay with Bumbi the whole way next year. My response was merely intended to state that it is highly unlikely that anyone in the nation, much less the state will be able to do so next year. I dont see what the problem is...

  8. Hmmm... Looks like you are an extreme Bumbi fan.. Maybe a little obsessive.

just making a prediction- this time last year, I wouldve told you hed win footlocker south by his senior year, and you wouldve made the same response- now even if I say he'll win the FL nationals, I wouldnt get too many people calling me crazy. I dont believe theres anything he can't do, and since its reasonable to say that he'll be under 4:10 this year, he has as good a chance or better than anyone in the nation...

  9. Smaller field than we're used to (800 kids instead of 1,000+), and the 50% chance of rain may hinder us a little, but we're still hoping for some top filght competition.

If Daniel Jones runs in the 1600 only, Bumbi may lose his first ever meet record. That 4:26 DJ ran at Great Eight was pretty impressive...

  10. He is a sophmore i just looked that up. Yea that would be awesome if both of them could get bumbi to run the 2 mile and the mile next year and actually be right with him the whole way.

to do so in the 2 mile, tennessee would have to have 3 of the top runners in the nation, and as good as Bejan and Clay are, I dont see them running sub-9 anytime soon. And Bumbis going to break 4 next year, so it probably wont even be a factor...

  11. The 2 boys in the 3200 in the Great 8 were great to watch. That ought to even be a better race next year. Who was that other kid behind Bejan in the 3200 race that got beat at the line? What year was the other kid?

His names Clay Hannah from Lebanon High, but I dont know for sure what year he is- although my guess is senior...

But yeah, like you said, Bejan will only get better. Next year is going to be an awesome race. What would be really awesome would be if Bejan got good enough to tempt Bumbi into racing it too, but I guess thats more likely in the 1600 than the 3200...

  12. Does anyone else here think its funny that Andrew Bumbalough from brentwood academy would have beat the guy who won the 3200 meter race by almost a minute.

If by funny, you mean that the fact that Bumbi is a minute better has some sort of comedic value, then no- Bejan ran an unbelievably gutsy race, and to post anything on these boards which would take away from his accomplishment is to not understand what he did. He ran a PR, school record, and Great 8 record in the 1600, and then- only an hour later- ran a PR, and a Great 8 record in the 3200. He is only a junior, and he has an unbelievable amount of natural talent.

Bumbi is a great runner, but I think its unfair to every other runner in the state to hold anyone else to his expectations. He is the best 2-mile runner in the nation, and I personally dont find it "funny" that Bejan ran a great race Tuesday...

  13. O keyan, I just noticed this about your post- you said if I go, Ill be cheating someone who couldve gone. I will be running the 3200, and I hope for the sake of people like you that they convert my time, because I dont need people like you telling me that I dont deserve to be in this race simply because I cant run as fast as Vandy says I do...

  14. What was that about honesty?

1 Cowan, Matt SR Franklin Road Ac 9:27.00

2 Abtahi, Bejan JR Father Ryan High 9:45.00

3 Hannah, Clay SO Lebanon High 9:51.00

Unless you plan on not attending the meet this doesn't look so honest to me. If you do go (and cheat someone who deserved to) you better be hauling and show that you can run a full 3200 in 9:27 (Doubtful!). Good luck on making the right descision.

hmm, yea, thats definately a mistake. The 9:27 is my best 3000m time, which I ran at a practice meet before the season started. I dont know why they didnt convert it, but I sure hope they do because I dont want to be listed as the top entry, that would be embarrasing...

  15. Why is honesty so hard? My coach is so honest about it that he wouldnt convert my 9:27 3000, so I have my only 3200 entered (in which I ran alone and came through at 10:21)- I wouldve had to have run a 54 seconds last 200m to run that. a :54 200m equates to a 14:24 3200, so I think its safe to say thats my better time. Its also frustrating to see four guys Ive already beat this year head to head ahead of me in the mile......o well, Id rather be honest and out of the great eight than dishonest and in it....

  16. This is an American classic event. Many teams in the IMAC run the fat boy relay, even had it as a nonscoring event at the conference meet several years ago. I think it should become a state level event. In order to be on the relay, you must weigh at least 250.

How many school even have 4 guys over 250?

  17. QUOTE (iamskip @ Apr 4 2004 - 10:47 AM)

coasterboarder,or should i say cowan?yes that was DL's 4x8 team that won state last year and is what they will run with this year.you say the other 2 legs besides yourself and im guessing the kid in the glasses are up for grabs???then who else can fill those 2 spots?david?i didnt think he was an 800 runner is there anyone else out there for yall?as far as DL goes your right it should be close this year and i hope so bc its much more fun that way.also only 1 of dl's runners has been training siince track season has begun.1 of them has had a broken bone in his foot,1 has a torn acl(but is still running on it),and 1 has just gotten back from basketball,so yes youre right we do have alot of ahead of us.i hope u find your four guys soon and we get to run against yall again and see how we stack up!should be just as fun as the highland games!oh and do u think they will move u to last leg?oh well good luck to yall

    My Response:

I dont even know if Ill run the 4x8 in section this year- I want to though. If I do, we have a sprinter we converted to 4x8, so he'll take the opening leg, and so I guess it would either be me or the glasses guy in anchor. Based on McCallie times (4x8 and open 8), our combined PR 4x8 is down to 8:26- 2 seconds off your championship time. Also, Elizabethton just ran an 8:29, so its looking like state could be the closest ever. Good Luck, and lets keep each other up to date when we get new relay results....

I dont think FRA has it in the bag necessarily, but this is where hes getting that information

  18. Hey Coacht, you always have articles and headlines about the "major" sports on your front page. I know running isnt a very popular sport, but even so- I think Andrew Bumbalough's performance at Arcadia this weekend needs to be heard of by others in the TN highschool community outside of running. I think its pretty significant to TN highschool track to have the top 2 miler in the nation- just a thought...

  19. Runs for Ravenwood, which is a 2nd year (?) school in Williamson Co., right next door to Brentwood High. I think he was only a freshman last year. It's in the AAA Nashville region.

I thought he went to BHS. If not, who was the guy who transfered to BHS this year and won all the JV races in CC this year?
