Thoughts? But please no negative comments about any kids. If you don't think a kid deserves to be on the list, just say who you think should be on the list.

Doesn't Heritage have one of the fastest, if not the fastest guy in Blount County playing for them, Kyle Koe? I also believe their kicker is one of the best in Blount County.

  2. Best team?? I kind of like the 1998 boys. In particular the dubbing of Wm Blount comes to mind. Not because of the score, but because of the newspaper coverage of Wm Blount that week. WB  was invincible, they were pictured if I remember correctly around a military vehicle with bands of bullets One young man who I will keep nameless came onto the filed to receive the kick off sprouting two middle fingers as he took his position. He received the opening kick off only to fumble the ball which MHS recovered. Coach Hammondtree did not let up until the very last minutes of that game. Final Score MHS 65 Wm Blount 7. No mercy rule back then. Talking to Hammondtree way back then and he felt his team had be slighted and he used that article to full advantage. The elizabethton game was a very good win at Elizabethton with QB Shawn Witten a Va Tech commitment and a freshman name Jason Witten played in that game QB Witten was a very elusive QB. Final Score MHS 20 EHS 16. back to work.

  3. My era spans the last 25 years plus, so my apologies to those I did not see. I have seen Spradlin on film though, darn good. Talked to him the other day and nice to see him doing well. During my time, throw in Shawn Prevo, Michael Potter and Carl Stewart. hard to pick the best.  Single game rushing record held by Coulter Grove Middle School teacher and MHS Coach Jason Hicks 212 yds vs Smyrna.

Kicker-Zack Sharp. MHS has been lucky in having some excellent kickers over the years but 111 PAT's in row is a record that will be hard to beat. Most memorable, the late FG by Justin Dierdorf to beat Halls late and his 50 yarder against Central.

Center  I'll have to go with my favorites Brandon Waters and Jay Guillermo.

QB by the numbers Brent Burnette , honorable mention to Jason Phillips and Cade Thompson.  Just our leadership, Nick Myers, Garrett and Derek Hunt.

Best receiver, Kelby Brock and very close behind Tyler and Ryan Maples. Honorable mention to my favorite David sweetland. MHS did not throw as much when the Maples and Sweetland were reeking havoc on the field. Just behind them Kyle Harris.

DB I'll go with "The Shark" Scot Wilks, Andrew Clements and both Maples. Got to go. Finish later.  Going to review some audio tapes from way back when.

  4. Compton. Stats are one thing, but talent jumps at you whether you play 2 quarters or 4 quarters. With the advantage of video being viewed ubiquitously on outlets like HUDL you can very thoroughly analyze. So stats my draw you to the players, but its only a small factor. Coaches words have a lot, a lot to do with it as this is probably where a lot players are made. So does the quality of the school and quality of courses taken and grades. With a program like Maryville, one will get noticed if you have the talent and the smarts no mater how many minutes you play.

  5. Not bashing at all because you are the best and your trophy case proves it but in an adult conversation is it fun going to games on Fridays anymore and watching the starters pulled after halftime ?

In your region games in last 3-5 years what was the closest anyone played you ?

Yes you face Alcoa but in 5 years what's the win / loss record against them and points for / against ?

Yes it's bout winning gold balls but don't you wanna face competition ?

Again this is not too debate your schedule just asking is it still fun on Friday nights during the season for fans ?

Best of luck and again congrats on a great season

The same thing was said when we moved from 4A to 5A. Now we are in 6A. And in case you don't know it, we are a 5A school playing up. Is your high school willing to do that?

  6. People just don't know D2 talent. I agree Maryville is a top team in the state but making the statement you would bet on them every time is pretty strong. They just don't play good enough teams week in and week out that D2 does. Don't get me wrong they are very good. But put them in D2 and there would be a lot of "upsets"

With teams like Trezevant, McCallie, Warren Co, etc. D-2 does not have as many power houses as you imply week in and week out. Add the fact that they can recruit, well it's a different horse. Would you like to unleash Quarles and staff to a recruiting format? Then let's talk.

  7. This is the same crowd that said 4A Maryville couldn't hang with the top 5A teams. After what has happened since Maryville started "playing up" they don't really want Maryville playing D2 teams. Because if that happens and Maryville wins those games they have nothing else to whine about. There's not a D2 team in this state that is as well coached as Maryville. I would bet on Maryville every time. Anybody who doesn't agree is a fool.

Can you imagine, Maryville, currently a class 5A team opting to play in 6A (haters forget that Maryville is a 5A school), moving to D-2 and being able to get any player from anywhere? I don't think anyone around the state wants that to happen.

  8. As the name may suggest, I am a newbie to the area and to coachT. Looking for a place for my son to play some high level football. Looks like Maryville may be the place. Why is there so much fuss about them playing a team from out of state or a higher division. If they would happen to lose that game, would that prevent them from winning state championship in their class? If not, then they can lose that game and still win state championship which would still mean that they would still be the best team in the state. That is the way that i see it. Correct me if I'm wrong

MURVUL once lost their first for games and then ran the table winning a state title.

  9. Webb good try though and they played BA in the 80's try having a relevant game that you can actually compare haha.. Webb is like a peewee team compared to the upper D2 group and if Maryville is so great and unbeatable, then play a high ranking out of state team or D2 2A team instead of beating up on weak regional opponents all regular season

Here we go Rebels fans. As soon as we beat the unbeatable, we aren't as good as some"other team". We couldn't possibly compete with the SEC of high school football (6A-2). Now that that myth has been debunked.....

  10. I wonder why Creasy ran that QB sneak at the end of the first half instead of taking a knee?

He said to me after the game, he should of took a knee.  He felt it was a safe play,  but a QB just trying to make something happen, did. But it happened to the opposing team. . He was sick about it.

  11. In the football office of BA last spring to talk scheduling for a kickoff classic that was to be played at Vanderbilt. Coaches said that it couldn't happen because team A and team B would never play us. I thought we could make it very lucrative for those teams, but i guess not. GQ was called on speaker phone, pretty much as a joke, and when asked he told the BA coach that "it would be more competitive for them(BA) to play an out of state team". Followed by "we couldn't give you a game". So the IFL has nothing to do with facts.

    And GQ is still laughing.

  12.

we actually have academics at Maryville. It is a money issue. And big question I'd Why do they have to? To prove it to you ?[/quote

Cmon that is nothing more than spin with your academics argument ? Guess Blackman should have not make the trip east last week because the team left in the morning ?

Wow wonder how the kids at university that play collegiate sports manage - your talking about a 1/2 day missed to play a BA or MBA, full day for Trinity .....

Money ? Again another spin and misconception , those schools that win and have booster support is not a issue when it comes to travel expenses

Plus you know home and home will bring a sellout crowd and then-some .....

I saw others from MHS post on here the support and turn out for games have not been the best ?

Is it a product of their own success and domination? What fun is it turning up every week knowing your gonna pull your starters at the half

    Exception Alcoa game .....

Again nothing but the most respect for the kids playing and the coaching staff - MHS is a machine ...........

Think any fan ( except those at MHS ) would love to see you play a BA or MBA even a Trinity or Hoover team - would that be fun , would that bring in a crowd , you bet it would !!!!!

Must be a reason you keep dodging those power house teams - heck I will start a go fund me page to raise gas money for the bus

Is it because the program may get dented if you lose to those teams ?

Winners and competitors want the best

Don't bother with the reply I already know the spin I already know the excuses

    Mic drops hits the floor

    Case closed

First of all we are talking about out of state travel, not Tennessee travel. Or did you forget? Dodging, we are experts at it, just like ND playing a cushy schedule every year. See how easy it it to get off topic. Start the GO FUND now, then call Maryville Athletics. The answer will still be NO. Most attendance is down, including Middle Tennessee High Schools. My sources are Middle Tennessee  coaches, what are yours?

  13. I think it will take a lot of intangibles to beat Maryville.

While Nix is good, the heart and soul of their defense is Junior LB, Jackson Cauthren who is the son of current Arkansas State Defensive Coordinator, Joe Cauthren.

  14. Normally I try to catch them after practice...we do it through a conference call mode...

Just like I do Coach Shad and Mac....just looking to catch up and chat about the match up...his thoughts on this Oakland Squad...and his 2015 team and how they differ from squads in the past

Quarles interview, Creasy interviews to be heard on Maryville Rebel Radio, Friday Pre game show. 6:30 PM start on 94.3 FM WNFZ. GQ interview about 6 plus minutes Also heard on www.943wnfz.com. or tunein.com.

  15. By your reasoning Maryville beat Warren county 35 to 7 by 28 Oakland beat warren county 48 to 7 by 41, Maryville beat William Blount Oct 16th 42 to 0 by 42 Oakland beat William Blount Nov 6th 49 to 7 by 42 points. And as I was told on here you can not use common opponents and scores to rank teams. Example as I posted in a post earlier Riverdale beat Smyrna 49 to 3 at Smyrna two weeks before the playoffs started in 2006 and Smyrna beat Riverdale at Riverdale in the playoffs on it's way to Smyrna's first of two State Championships back to back. Yes Maryville is a GREAT TEAM and every team in the state dreams of having a program like Maryville's. Great team, Great coaches and Great FANS and until somebody is able to compete with Maryville year in and year out, Maryville will always be the big dogs and every team is looking to beat. So far it has been proven that nobody can compete with them year in and year out. My hat goes off to Maryville it is not easy to be as dominate year after year as they have. Any team with that reco. Thisrd would be proud, and should be. We just have to believe we will beat them someday! If we don't believe we will never win.

. This will be a very tough game for both teams.
