  1. Thanks guys. Yeah, red, I can assure you that I know absolutely nothing about the geography of TN. I just know who beat who. If one section really is rated much lower than another, it just means that one area pounded the other in the games between the two.

I appreciate that you guys would be willing to pay. We've looked into the subscription route, but didn't find that it would pay the bills. (Our bills are pretty big.) Another problem with that is that we rely heavily on the public to spot and tell us when/if we have mistakes or missing info with teams in their area. That wouldn't really work if the site was members-only.

  2. the website as a whole was not a joke.

Thanks rollred... You'd be amazed how many people don't get that. I get hundreds and hundreds of emails telling me how worthless the site is because their team isn't rated as high as they'd like to see. Schedules, standings and scores for 15,000 teams becomes *worthless*, apparently, because a team isn't rated where you want them to be. That's the intellect of most folks out there...

  3. Brentwood Academy (Brentwood, TN) at Christian Brothers (Memphis, TN) [projection: Christian Brothers (Memphis, TN) 21-17 (National Challenge game)]

McCallie (Chattanooga, TN) at Montgomery Bell Academy (Nashville, TN) [projection: Montgomery Bell Academy (Nashville, TN) 28-13]

  4. That did it: I'm goin' 6-team parlay card, takin' the points on all: Longviex +1, La Costa Canyon +38 (although I really like the over/under at 50), Byrnes +3, Sevier County +22, Ponca City +19, and MBA +11. Bettin' 5 units. ;)

Hey 64TN- not bad...4-2 on your 6-teamer. (Longview and Sevier didn't cover)

Contact me at ned@unapproved website.com when you get a chance. I'd like to discuss something with you... Thanks.

  5. Ned, where's the love?  Just checked out unapproved website.com (11 PM CDT) and you've got the scores updated, and CBHS is still rated higher than MBA!

Don't worry rollred- we've got much love for MBA. They're ranked ahead of CB right now- but it's very close. (I know that's hard to understand- but you gotta remember that CB has beaten just about the entire TN top 10.)

The ratings hadn't fully run-their-course last night. It takes many hours for the system to fully run through all 7,000 scores on Fridays.

Both teams are in our national top 25.

  6. For the record... Just wanted to get our official projection on the game out there:

Oakland (Murfreesboro, TN) at Riverdale (Murfreesboro, TN) [projection: Riverdale (Murfreesboro, TN) 28-17]

Dr. 64...are you in the unapproved website predict-the-preps contest? I didn't see your name on the standings. You DEFINITELY should be. With your national knowledge, you'd be a prime contender for the "national challenge" title. Give Leroy some competition, will ya?

Interested to see how your 6-team par does this weekend. Good luck...

You didn't say which way you liked the DLS/La Costa o/u.

  8. However, they do play mediocre competition in the regular season. Will their relatively weak schedule keep them from being ranked much higher?

First- thanks for the kind words on the site.

With Maryville- it's not *just* the lack of competition...but the less-than-dominant-scores against anyone good they *have* played. They've only played one top-100 TN team: #77 Morristown West. The result (14-6) was unimpressive for a team that so many seem to think is a top 10 team.

By comparison, the LOWEST rated team CB played was #30 Briarcrest Christian...and CB handled them easily, 26-0.

In short- Maryville could have been rated high, despite their (apologies- there's no nice way to say this) ridiculously-weak schedule...IF they had shown, through margins of victory, that they were dominant against these less-than-great teams. They haven't done that up to this point.

  9. Interesting. Did he happen to give you specific games? I did a quick and dirty review of the MT/IL Top 25 ranked teams (13 combined) and I see one out-of-state game. Maybe I missed some more.

Not necessarily those teams, specifically- rather the states in general...

    A little more info:

I don't deny for a minute that there are some curious-looking things at the national level- so you folks are certainly right to question it.

There is an important distinction to make between state ratings and national ratings.  State ratings are based on thousands of games played within a fairly small set of teams.  The data is ample- and as a result, the ratings are accurate.  CB and MBA have definitely been the standout teams in TN this year, statistically, whereas no statement like that can made of any team on the national level.  The amount of data re: interstate games is much smaller.  There aren't any teams that, statistically, are *definitely* the standout teams national- because there isn't enough data to make such a statement. So, the state ratings are more definite- the national ones (how all the states are fit together) are approximations.

Montana and Illinois have both done incredibly well in out-of-state games, particularly in the case of MT.  For example (I know everyone will probably make fun of Wyoming too, but I'm gonna use the example anyway)...several mid-level MT teams have blown-out top WY teams.  WY has then gone on to do well against other states, etc. Interactions between states determine how the ratings all fit together.  Again- however, since we're talking about a small amount of data in some cases, this isn't as accurate as within-state ratings are.

On the other topic mentioned: Losses are not the end-all for the system.  If a team loses to a top 5 national team by 1 point, for example, they're showing that they *do* belong on the national scene- not that they don't. This is the problem with polls. There is no such thing as a good loss and no such thing as a bad win in the polls. Beat an 0-7 team in OT- no problem; you keep your spot in the polls until you lose. Ridiculous. (See Ohio State)

  10. I'm sorry, but how can you call Christian Brothers a national power? When was the last time they even won a state title?

I'm not speaking historically- just 2003. At present- these are two of the top teams in the nation...and CB has proven that (again- thus far this year), more so than MBA has.

I don't think you'll doubt CB's place on the national landscape after this weekend...

  11. CB by 11....

Just wanted to go on the record with what we're projecting this week:

unapproved website projection: Christian Brothers (Memphis, TN) 24 Montgomery Bell Academy (Nashville, TN) 13

Should be a great game between two national powers.

  13. There are two state title games from 2002 that need to be fixed, too:

    4A Maryville beat Hillsboro 29-26

    1A CPA Beat Boyd B. 26-20

Also, Tennessee's Division II (consists of all financial aid-giving high schools) is referenced as 8-man football. Those schools play 11-man football.

    Thanks Rollred...

The scores have been fixed now- and we cleared up the 8-man thing a few days ago- when this board's own WesVols pointed it out to us...

    We appreciate your help!

  14. Boy that's odd... not only do we play Centennial on October 3rd but we play some school from Kentucky... hmmm, not a very accurate site. If you ask me.

Eminence KY listed Franklin Classical TN on their schedule...and our best guess was that that was you (Franklin TN) because we couldn't find a Franklin Classical.

For future reference- we fix mistakes instantly when we're told about them. Just let us know... I just happened to run across this board. I'm erasing that game off your schedule now.

    Thanks,
