  1. Wayne County supporters...tell us about your team...I for one have not seen any film or anything on WC, all I know is the scores of your games. Is your QB the kid that was Mr. Football last year? Got any stats you can throw our way?

No, Austin Rice is our QB this year. His brother, Tyler, was mr football at QB last year. Austin was an all-state receiver the last couple of years. We are a run first team with no single player that puts himself before the team. Austin will pitch the ball 30 yards down field to gain 3 more yards on a play. We have a good running back that does a good job of playing within the system and doesn't get himself into trouble by trying to do too much when it's not there. This team plays for each other more than any team I can remember Wayne Co ever having. We have a Mr football candidate that plugs up the middle of our defense and two shut down corners. We can man up on any receiver in 1A ball. Coming in to this week, we have 19 picks as a team with both corners having 4 a piece.

  2. Please describe the hail marry pass

Single coverage against Peyton Mathis usually doesn't end well. He broke a tackle at the 30 and took it all the way for a 67 yard td. Then, we pick off a lateral on the ensuing kickoff and bring it all the way back. Crazy thing is, none of this happens if Huntington doesn't call 2 timeouts on our last drive trying to get the ball back.

The story of the game was our defense. They were beastly. 13 points given up and 10 of those were from terrible special teams mistakes. I'm thinking Huntington probably had around 160 total yards.

  3. So there were two holding penalties all game. They happen to come on a long pass inside the 5 and a long run inside 12 for the Cats. Coincidence? I think not. It's amazing just how much a ref can change a game. I'm not at the game. They may have both been clear holds. My point is that the only two holds they call all night both come on our biggest two plays. Shameful.

  4. We will go back to the split back veer. Rice is really good in that offense. I assume we will run the read option out of the shotgun next year some as well. Our problem will more than likely be on defense. We were not physical enough this year. Hopefully by switching back to the veer, we will regain the physicality we are accustomed to playing with. When you practice against an offense in practice that throws as much as we do, it can lead your defense be play passive. Like others have mentioned, we still have one more year before we are in for a rough patch.

  5. I think that the end of the game was our boiling point. We had several drives in a row stopped by penalties while JB was penalized once all night for a net loss of 2 yards. I listened on the radio so I am not sure that was the case but that is what I expect happened.

    Congrats to Jo Byrns.

Turnovers and untimely penalties seemed to kill us tonight on offense, and as some of us feared, we could not stop the run on defense. I am sure there were some folks in the stands that could have stopped the running game if they were coaching though. :thumb:

  6. Cngrats to jb 1 is a stud. But very beat able Wayne county shouldn't even bothered on driving up here the coaching staff falls apart in every big game in the last few years respect our coaches. But we just can't plan for these big games.

That's laughable. I'm guessing you have a kid on the team. Am I right?

  7. So I hear our boys bus broke down in Columbia this afternoon......that can't be good........but I know they're mentally tough enough to deal with it! Come on Cats!!! It's gettin close baby!

You heard correct. They tried to call schools around Columbia to round up a bus but no luck. Instead, they had their walk through behind Taco Bell. That's a nice way to start the evening.

  8. I am sure WC has great pass defense but JBS will surprise you w/ how well they pass. I believe PC had the best pass offense out of the teams WC played this year, so how did they do? I dont believe B.Adkins is as good of a player as Tucker, but he will be a close 2nd as far passing the ball concerning everybody WC played this year.....

    LMAO.....

Our pass defense is much better than our run defense. I know what we do better, and if JB throws it a bunch, we can come out of there with a win.

  9. Ok, WC has only had one team hold them under 30 points(Chester Co.-25) and only 2 teams have scored more than 1TD against our Varsity-D(PC and MtP). All three teams entered into the playoffs. Two makin it to the second round. Wayne Co. had 7 teams from its reagular season to make into the playoffs(Chester Co.,Lewis Co., MtP,PC,C'ville,C'wood,Columbia Ac.),three of which made it into the second round playoffs. JB has only had one team hold them under 30 points(C'wood) and only 1 team(as far as I know) to score more than 1TD against their Varsity-D(C'wood). Who made the playoffs and made it to the second round. JB has had 4 teams from its reagular season to make the playoffs(WHH,Cascade,Clarksville Ac.,NCS), two of which made it to the second round. Three of them being put out by Region 6 teams.

JB beat our fourth place team C'wood. 28-14. Wayne Co. beat JB's second place team NCS. 49-28. Both teams have played three of the same teams(C'wood,NCS,McEwen). Both teams beat all three. I thought, I would give just a little break down of how their sesons went and how the other performed. Good luck and Go get'em Cats!!!! :thumb:

Great read. It's pretty neat how two different philosophies can end being so close in overall effectiveness. It goes to show that in the game of football, it's not about what you run but rather how you execute.

  10. Earlier in the year there was talk that WC didn't have as much of a physical presence to them compared to last year; is that still the case?

Yes. Our inability to stop the run comes from the fact that we catch blockers and ball carriers instead of attacking them. I will say that we seemed more physical last week than at any other time in the season. Sometimes the playoffs have a way of correcting the lack of physicality that has been shown during the regular season. Hopefully last weak's performance will carry over. Although, we didn't play that well agaisnt the run last week either. NCS just got behind and felt that they had to throw to score with us. Come on JB, throw it. Throw it. I dare you!!!

  11. From a fan's perspective, I think Wayne County will win. From comparing matchups, I am not so confident. The question one has to ask is which team is better at stopping the other teams strength. JB is a powerful running team and WC is a great passing team. I have watched the Cats all year and our run defense is sketchy at best. The fact that we cover the pass really well wont help us stop JB tonight. I have not watched film of JB so I don't know what they look like in the secondary. All I can go on is how they have played in the past. What I expect from them is a very disciplined core of linebackers and a secondary that stays at home. Many times, the Cats hurt people becuase of our ability to avoid the rush and outrun the secondary. The only team that I can never remember us getting behind the coverage on is JB. In order for the Cats to win, we have to play beter against the run than we have all year, and we need to continue to force the turnovers that have propelled us since the Perry County loss. The "X" factor in this game is of course Tyler Rice. He always seems to play better against the best competition. If he is on his game, you just have to outscore us. That is a hard thing to do. Good luck tonigtht Cats! Take it to em'!

  12. Why sure we have already bought our second round tickets, because the last time I checked TSSAA hasn't started making us buy tickets to play BYE yet. :roflolk:

You do realize bye has never lost right? lol

If I remember correctly, just a few years ago, JB played in a very weak region. Wayne County's region was better top to bottom and won three out of the 4 matchups in the first round. Everyone was talking about how weak your region was and how that would affect JB's chances against us. I'm also pretty sure JB then beat us pretty handedly. If you guys are better than you were last year, you're definately gonna be hard for anyone to beat. I kinda wish that we were in a different division. We have had some good games in the past, and it would have been great for the game to have more meaning that just a 3rd round win if we do in fact play again.

  13. What would be the difference between Quad 3 and 4.?If you are refering to the above post having Jo Byrnes with Wayne Co and Collinwood..what's the difference?Collinwood just got beat pretty handidly and Waybe Co was beaten by Perry Co..So that district champion would be in Quad 4.Still could keep Jo Byrnes at home all the way through.!

I assume he thinks that Wayne County is the best 2 seed so JB should not be in their quad.
