  1. No, Austin Rice is our QB this year. His brother, Tyler, was mr football at QB last year. Austin was an all-state receiver the last couple of years. We are a run first team with no single player that puts himself before the team. Austin will pitch the ball 30 yards down field to gain 3 more yards on a play. We have a good running back that does a good job of playing within the system and doesn't get himself into trouble by trying to do too much when it's not there. This team plays for each other more than any team I can remember Wayne Co ever having. We have a Mr football candidate that plugs up the middle of our defense and two shut down corners. We can man up on any receiver in 1A ball. Coming in to this week, we have 19 picks as a team with both corners having 4 a piece.
  2. One thing I think we can allagree on is that a really good team is having to go home a week early. This was a semifinal game if i've ever seen one. I'm not saying we will win easliy next week, but Huntington and WC had a bad draw having to play this week.
  3. Single coverage against Peyton Mathis usually doesn't end well. He broke a tackle at the 30 and took it all the way for a 67 yard td. Then, we pick off a lateral on the ensuing kickoff and bring it all the way back. Crazy thing is, none of this happens if Huntington doesn't call 2 timeouts on our last drive trying to get the ball back. The story of the game was our defense. They were beastly. 13 points given up and 10 of those were from terrible special teams mistakes. I'm thinking Huntington probably had around 160 total yards.
  4. Those two calls are why you don't want to get stuck on the road at 11-0. Those calls are not made if we are at Wayne Co tonight. END OF STORY.
  5. So there were two holding penalties all game. They happen to come on a long pass inside the 5 and a long run inside 12 for the Cats. Coincidence? I think not. It's amazing just how much a ref can change a game. I'm not at the game. They may have both been clear holds. My point is that the only two holds they call all night both come on our biggest two plays. Shameful.
  6. We will go back to the split back veer. Rice is really good in that offense. I assume we will run the read option out of the shotgun next year some as well. Our problem will more than likely be on defense. We were not physical enough this year. Hopefully by switching back to the veer, we will regain the physicality we are accustomed to playing with. When you practice against an offense in practice that throws as much as we do, it can lead your defense be play passive. Like others have mentioned, we still have one more year before we are in for a rough patch.
  7. I think that the end of the game was our boiling point. We had several drives in a row stopped by penalties while JB was penalized once all night for a net loss of 2 yards. I listened on the radio so I am not sure that was the case but that is what I expect happened. Congrats to Jo Byrns. Turnovers and untimely penalties seemed to kill us tonight on offense, and as some of us feared, we could not stop the run on defense. I am sure there were some folks in the stands that could have stopped the running game if they were coaching though.
  8. That's laughable. I'm guessing you have a kid on the team. Am I right?
  9. The Cats put together a good late drive but ran out of time in the half. We get the ball to start.
  10. You heard correct. They tried to call schools around Columbia to round up a bus but no luck. Instead, they had their walk through behind Taco Bell. That's a nice way to start the evening.
  11. Our pass defense is much better than our run defense. I know what we do better, and if JB throws it a bunch, we can come out of there with a win.
