DB, or as opponents are starting to refer to them "the University of Dobyns Bennett" (because they look like a college team) is going to be very hard for any team to handle.  i hear riverdale has a very strong team this year, and it well defnately be a dogg fight in the semi-finals, however UDB is going to be wearing those maroon and grey state championship rings on December 4th, and Grahm " clark well have the monkey off his back.

Its a long way to MTSU....Someone like Oakridge may sneak up and bite DB in the playoffs....don't order those rings yet.

That particular game was the subject of quite a bit of contraversy that perhaps had emotions running a bit high. Greeneville is still a little sore about moving that game to Sevierville and changing the date and time. Water under the bridge...

 

This is a huge rivalry but I would not call it hatred. In Greeneville we reserve our hatred for Science Hill during basketball season.

Greenville and Mortown West do hate each other. This game will bring out the best and worst in the players and fans. I think this game will be close.

Mr.T, I feel your pain. I was talking to one of the DB mother and father and all they could say "My boy played good". MY, me its all the same. I, me, my, where are the words us, we, our team??? One of the problems is the parents. I know of a couple of Dads that hound Coach about their boy, play my boy here, give him the ball more, my boy is better than the one starting etc. My boy played for Coach Woods, started two years, the only thing I ever said to Coach about my boy, Thank you for helping me raise my son into a man, he is a better person having been coached by you and your staff. Parents need to leave the coaching to the coaching staff. I saw my son get chewed out by Coach Thompson one game and he needed it, it made him a better player and made him better prepared for life.

Parents need to be parents, teach them to do what the coaching staff says, not bad mouth the coaching staff.

This is a big time program one that has earned respect over the past several years. I will always support the team, the players and the coachs but this is not little league. Lets call black, black and white, white. This team is in trouble and there will have to be some type of major chane to fix it. Maybe moving around the personal, coach Woods and company have a way of fiting players where they should be. I don't think you give up on this year but if things don't get better and the conf. slips away then maybe you use the rest of the year to prepare for the future...maybe. If it can be fixed then Coach Wood and Coach Brown will get it fixed....Go Trojans!!!

Its been hard to watch this group of boys. They have the talent, smarts and everything it takes to make a championship team....except heart, team work, and the dedication. Its like they think just because their West high the games are a giveme and their is no respect for the other teams. They seem to have no respect for what it took to get the program to what it is today or what it was the last few years. It is if they forget the blood and sweat of past teams. I watched this team in the spring and fall and again a week ago and it seems that they are just going threw the motions. The coaching staff are coaching their hearts out but their is no senior leadership on the team....but their is a lot of I. What will Coach Woods do?

West had it handed to them last night. The O line just eat up the west defence, and that Russell kid has all the heart in the world. Coach Smith had his boys ready to play and you have to feel good for him, his coaching staff, the kids and all the people on the east end of town. If coach Smith gets a few more good coaches on his staff he will make winning a tradition over at East.

I knew West was in trouble when they "walked" on the field and then got stopped on the first series. What is wrong at West....Well I'll tell you. Cocky, attitude, no heart. This group of boys has the talent to win but they think they will win just because their West, its like they don't understand that winning is not a give me. They don't have respect for what has been done at West, the other team or for their own coaching staff. Well this thread is not about West. CONGRATS EAST good luck the rest of the year, play hard and trust what coach Smith and his staff tells you.

I think that M-town West got out coached. The onside kick to start the game set the tone. JC was much more discipline. West looked like they had better athlete's and more size they just got out played. West has a great coaching staff but they are bent on not playing the best athlete's both ways, and I understand in a close game that could make the difference in the 4th but it has cost them some games. Maryville has a lot of states under their belts and they play both ways. Pride in the way things where done in Bama may cost Coach Woods state.

West also does not have the QB as in years past. To run couters, draws out of the I you have to be able to pass. West has not been able to pass the last two years.

By years end West will win the region and go 3rd maybe 4th. Good luck Trojans good luck JC.

Roger- I just wanted to tell you that Jive started in 29 games for the Trojans. And he wasn't too shabby.

oh not so fast my friend. al mari is a real person. a real scary person. he hasn't played any this year because he's been in a training camp since last december. somethin happened with his plane ticket(the camp is in sweeden) and he couldn't get back in time for the reg. season or playoffs. but dont worry the mira is back. i think he's bulked up to about 265 this past year and has retained his 4.3 speed. oh yeah i heard somethin about a bus bein flipped over somewhere near highway 160 in morristown. deffinataly al mira related.

I congratulated Morristown for winning the game vs. Maryville on another thread. So I am not bashing Morristown. Good luck to the Trojans.

 

However, looking at the game Hillsboro vs. Morristown I can say I do not think Morristown has much of a chance matching up vs. Hillsboro. Don’t think because Morristown beat Maryville the program has arrived, the state game is a very different task indeed! Win the state then more respect is given. Maryville played the worst game they played in years. That sloppy field did not allow Maryville athletes to cut and move. The interceptions thrown were bad forced throws and catches not made. Morristown did not need to cut up the field because they again demonstrated to me they are still one dimensional on offence, “UP the Middle”. If Maryville had stopped the up the middle, Morristown would have been at home this weekend. Hillsboro will not allow Morristown to control the middle I don’t think. Morristown will not be able to change the schedule on this game because it will be cold or wet, the Trojans will have to be there on Saturday. I also doubt Morristown has played a defense with Hillsboro's size, speed and strength. Hillsboro is very hungry and has game experience on artificial turf. Hillsboro can throw the ball this year and Morristown has not done to well with the pass. I think the Trojans will fight hard and not lay down but I don’t think they are ready for the big fast athletes Hillsboro will bring to the game. The upside for Morristown is Bryant won’t score three TD’s on them! Morristown will be soundly defeated by Hillsboro.

 

I also think Cinderella turns back into a pumpkin on Saturday night!

The reason West went up the middle is that they are better than Maryville. The field did not aid West in any way both teams played on it and it was in good shape. West didn't get any breaks, they made the breaks. Stop crying, YOU GOT BEAT.

thank goodness for true maryville people like Rebel Ron, mhs, and Starsnbars. they are the perfect example of class, as are most maryville fans. but understand morristown west also has such people- the young unclassy ones have been on here though. just remember every team has the good and bad fans

i apoligize for any west fans who are unclassy, but seriously all teams have those people who make them look bad. so don't let a few individuals represent a whole town. great game maryville, hopefully we can bring it back to the east.

First let me say that Maryville is a class act. They are well coached and have great kids and fans. But I have to disagree with some of the Reb fans, I don't think that they played bad, I think they just ran into a team that was better today and that made them look like they had a bad game. I have to say from the home side Maryville played hard from the get go and the took advantage of the mistakes West made and made a great come back. It was one of those games where you feel for the other team......What makes this such a great win for West is that they beat a great football team.

it is hard to call it a rivalry when one team dominates the other. it is a little like the tennessee vandy rivalry except this one means a little more for the rebels than it does for the vols

Your right if this thing is going to turn into a true rivalry Motown West has to win a few and gain some respect.....

I think Jackson is the over all best back in East TN, he has size, speed and everything that goes with it. He can play D1. McCord is what high school football is all about, what he lacks is speed he makes up with heart and smarts. In most programs he would be an average player but at Maryville he has been molded into one of the best backs in the state. I also agree that if Central gets the ball to Jackson some way or another they hold on and beat Maryville.....but that is the difference between having titles and not.....coaching, and Maryville has both.

This game will comes down to Defence and mistakes.

The Rebs are a playoff team...They show their best this time of year. Central will make the big mistakes and blow this game, they have the talent to win but will buckel under the pressure, pressure they put on theirselves. Maryville will execute on every play and not make the big mistakes.

I was at the West-TN High game and the TROJAN D is better than I thought. The only reason it was 7 to 0 at half was because of turnovers and some choice flags. Greenway will make a difference and West better be ready, they can't overlook the Devils.....Greenville broke the scoreing record for the IMAC in reg season. I'm sorry it is now the FIVE RIVERS COMF. Woods and company will have to do a good coaching job this week, they have to keep the D focused.

Let me make this statement: If the offence makes the mistakes they made in the first half against Tennessee High {fumbles, stupid holds, etc.} against a good team like Greenville they will get spanked.

I haven't seen the pounders play but I have talked to several people that have, and I think that the Rebs are due for a bad game. Everything has gone their way this year...but that shows what good coaching does in a so called down year. If the Rebs mess up the Purple Pounders will have to take advantage and play mistake free ball. This might be the upset of the week. Rebs 17 Pounders 20.

West shouldn't have a problem w/ tennessee high, they haven't in the past and i don't anticipate it this year w/ west's strong team. Everybody has talked about how weak region one was this year (even weaker than 2... wow) so i really can't imagine that TN high is really prepared for the competition they have coming up having only played a pretty good science hill team (although i'm not sure how good the VA school is, they could be serious competition too). So i'm saying west big in this one b/c they won't be caught looking ahead, they remember the close games b/w these 2 schools in the past couple years and they know to take this year one game at a time... close into half, blowout in 2nd half

and west can beat greeneville twice in one season, they've done it 2 straight years since that ONE loss to them in the playoffs, they've won 7 of the last 8 b/w these schools, west can name how many more they want, greenway or no, they pull out another victory over the devils should both teams make it like we all expect

West better be ready.....or an a__ wooooping will happen.

Maryville has a better team and I also think they are better coached but this game is at Central and I think the Bobcats pull out a close one.....it will come down to turnovers.....but the Rebs are the best playoff team I have ever seen, Coach Quarles knows how to have his team ready for the playoff, year after year. If and when the bobcats and rebs meet in the playoffs....Rebs by 17.

If you play for the Morristown West Trojans or are a fan, please refrain from talking junk on this board. The only thing it accomplishes is to motivate the other team. In this case, Greeneville doesn't need any extra motivation.

 

The Trojans will have their hands full this week and then some. I look forward to another "classic" between these two teams.

Hey transplant your very right, the greendevils are a much improved team, alot like Motown West. They justed needed a couple of games to get things sorted out. Coach Woods has made some great changes that has made the D even better and he has coached his heart out with that O line, West still has room for improvement. Just like Woods, Zeller is still wipping his Devils into shape. They have everything to gain, they will play their best ball against the Trojans, so you Trojans better shut up, get ready to play and you better have your A-game because the DEVILS WILL.

What is Coach Woods smoking??? And maybe if we fans had some of it we could understand his play calling. It is very obvious to this fan that the players he plays should be using different options than they are given. Rucker & Shockley are the powerhouses which need to be ran in the middle. Then you've got Loveless and James that should be going on the outside because of their speed. Instead, he has Rucker running and James and Loveless going up the middle. James and Loveless have the spead and Rucker and Shockley have the push!!! If I can see that, why can't the coach. He also played alot of inexperienced Sophomores against Maryville. Give your Sophomores experience in blowout games like against Cocke Co. We can't keep expecting "Pee Wee", Emmanuel, and Caleb to keep carrying the games. And as far as Minnich, how many interceptions does he have to throw before Woods wakes up? If Minnich likes carrying so much, let him be a running back. We need someone who is not so nervous and get the ball where it needs to go. Its obvious again to everyone but Coach Woods that Minnich needs more experience and practice passing the ball. Put him up against West's mighty defense and he'll learn fast. The fans are beginning to question whether or not Woods wants a win. Come on Coach, give us a reason to believe in you again.

Minnich has played like an allstar!!!!! The only interception was on a last ditch drive to tie the game with time running out. The kid had pass after pass dropped. He made good decisions all night long. He is a big strong kid with a great arm, he has all the tools to be an all stater. With that said, I think that West played a good ballgame, the D was great and the O moved the ball very good, but had a problem getting it into the zone, whether it was a flag or a mental mistake. I will have to question some of the play calling....just because its easy to be a Saturday morning coach..The one thing that stands out is the screens, M-ville seemed to be to fast and to discipline for it to work, they stayed at home every time. They are well coached.The other thing that bothers me about West is that they don't give their backs time to get into a rhythm, they change them out every two plays. Coach Woods is a great coach, I have come to respect him a great deal. He will find a go to guy that will catch the ball and make the big plays, seems like he rotates a lot of kids there. I think that he may need to move a couple of kids that have great hands to the wide out position, maybe play one or two both ways.

Even if M-town West is 1 and 3 I like their chances. They held their own against a very, very good team in the M-ville rebs. Woods can take this team up a couple of notches....and if he does I wouldn't want to be on the other side of the field come playoffs.
