  1. I met Coach Keirsey over the weekend. I believe he played in 1988 with Faulkerson and crew. Came from Volunteer and spent his senior year at DB. Smart guy. Been around the block. Head Coach material in my book. Nice addition.

Luke Keirsey?? Didn't know Luke was a coach. Yes Comp, from Volunteer, Class of '88, and played with Mike F.

  2. I don't have a clue about why some of your guys may not be playing, but from experience I can tell you that a kid can just flat out get sick of playing the game of football. It doesn't matter if he is offered a full ride to the next level or is offered the moon to continue in high school. When they are burnt out,it's over and nothing will change their minds.Just my two cents worth guys.It sounds like your going to have another very good team this year.

Ya hit it the nail on the head here, Batman. Speaking as a parent of an athlete that had collegiate offers, very good offers, on the table, and to see him decide to hang it up an persue just his studies in Knoxville, we all need to cut the kids a break that decide to not to play. Sure we are dissapointed, but the kids may have reasons like concentrating on other sports or activities, then again they may just be burnt out. I'm sure their parents are just as proud of their kids, as we are ours. ;) Did I mention 2nd in the state in 110M Hurdles? haha wink wink. I'll be more proud of him when he graduates in orange.

  3. Whats everyone's thoughts one tomorrow's track meet at D.B.?

How did the Valley look at the track meet at D-B yesterday?

DB, as always a beast on the track. But South has speed and jumps. Pickwell goes 6'8 which is 2" better than state top jump last year. Watterson goes 15.3 in the 110 which is way ahead of the first of last year. Lots of footballers, even linemen are running. Even the 4x100, mostly sophs, is right with DB, but DB fell on last pass. South won in 45.9. Distance runners get personal bests almost every run. south in top three in most mens events. Maybe not as many ladies running as in past but good performance by many. And they look like they are having fun. The big blob of columbia blue in the infield is really pretty too. :?:

South had to easily come in second in the 6 school meet.

It was early in the season and a little cool as well. Some athletes weren't pushing hard yet.

DB has very good middle and long distance, both boys and girls. Hope the two young men who fell in the spring relay handoff are recovering well. Looks like they both got some pretty bad track burn. The young lady with the blonde long hair who sprints for DB is an impressive runner in everything she enters as well. Science Hill wasn't there, and their ladies team is traditionally tops. In boys' sprints, I would expect to see Sensabaugh and Steele (as he returns from baketball) from DB, Watterson and Riddle from South, and the young man from Greeneville around 10.9 or better in the 100M as the season progresses. Not sure of their potential in the 200M. Like I said, it's early yet.

As far as Sullivan South goes, as the season progresses, I've been impressed to see the positive direction Coaches Hilton and Jordan are taking the team. They had like 70 kids com out for track. Wow! I wouldn't be surprised to see Pickwell get close to 7'. He finished 2nd in state last year and had very very little instruction on high jump at that point. Pure raw talent. His form is much better this year and the sky's the limit. He'll be a steal for some college who could let him jump and play roundball. Watterson hit 4 hurldes, hitting one hard enough that it broke but still had a 15.3. Finished last year before the slight hammy thing at Oak Ridge, with a 15.1. I've seen him in practice looking much faster and smoother this season. If he isn't in at least the mid 14's by season end, we'll kick his tail! HAHA :thumb: His quad was cramping a bit in the 100M run later in the meet, so after that he opted out of the 200M. Too cool to push anything. Hoping to see him in the state decathlon this year as well. Allot of South underclassmen are stepping up this season for the Rebels. Crowe looks really good in the 400M. I personally think he could be a 49 sec guy. The Rebs lost allot of sprinters to graduation last year. Allot of football players are out there working and contributing, which is great. I did notice one of the sprint relay included three linebackers - :?: You don't see that everyday. The Rebs will get an extra boost when Riddle visits from the baseball team later in the season. Riddle won the fastest back in the football jamboree last season. I do miss seeing Abby Fletcher on the track. I truly believe she could win several events incl the hurdles and be a force in the girls multievent (heptathlon?). I understand she is concentrating on offseason roundball. The Reb girls' team misses her points. ;)

  4.

Watterson is probably looking for a call from a track team. Especially after he finishes top 3 in the state this year in the 110 hurdles.

SSReb... Yep. Six on the table, NAIA thru Div 1. A couple of really good ones with offers that are fantastic for track. Has his eyes set on one in particular, who has yet to get solid. He has informed all the football potentials that he has hung up the cleats. :flower: Spikes are still out. :flower:

  5.

Our WR's have only seen b-n-r one time. Just as you must know how to deliver it you must also know how to evade it. I feel Stacy needs to be very clear on the rulebook definition of this coverage and be well prepared for the obvious misuse of the rule under seige. I feel this is the one they will try and rape us with. I want to see film on these people and see if this is one the buttons they try and push. Something tells me we are walking into an ambush.

    popcorneater:

Comp, ole buddy. Popped on to catch up and reaad a little (i must be really bored). I retired from posting as you know. Making this exception. Let's try to not point anything out for them on here please. BUT, I wanted to reassure you a bit. Remember all the combines and camps since sophomore year? B-N-R running at WR & DB vs some of the best, many D1 DB's, at Wake, Furman, Appy State, combines in ATL, CLT, DC, Cincy, Nashville, Etc. Then there's the whole Miami instruction specific to this. They (we took more than one with us) HAVE seen the bump and run many years during summers and are chomping at the bit for someone to try it. I hope this IS a track meet. Can we set up some hurdles too? See you all there.

  6. In fact, ya know what, I'm done on here for good. :popcorneater: I'll give you all the last twisted word. Decide how honest you want to be though, and then all the other people reading it need to decide if you are going to sit back and let the bull stick. You all know the truth, and you all want me to stand alone and be the only one back then with guts to call a spade a spade, well so be it. I may have been wrong in my limited wording, but I only stated the facts. You just could not accept them. I'm done with you guys and your rose-colored daddy glasses.

Drop it all, don't even respond and move on to talking football. I'm gone. dry.gif

  7. Satch, yes people have taken shots on here about #1 dropping balls. But, you have taken several shots at Bradley. Enough is enough. Let's focus on this year. I hope #1 catches everything thrown at him and I hope Bradley has a very good collegiate career. Let's move on................

Scott, not sure why you brought that up or him into it? I know you never took shots, and I don't see anyone else taking shots now. Last year however, you can count on one hand the number of balls he has dropped in three years. No more than anyone else last year, or anyone else muffing punts and kicks. Should we hold incompletions and intentional groundings to the same standard? Should we add up incompletions due to poorly thrown balls? Of course not.

So, to label him that way holds no water. So (dand it!) Do you want the truth that I held back because people will say I am making excuses? Ok, Scott I'll get hammered probably but here's the rest of the story. Comp, if you want to chime in with an honest post here's your opportunity to back me up. Yes, Seth dropped a nicely thrown ball in game one vs. SH. Watch the film and you will see he wasn't looked at again after that regardless of being open allot - across the middle with hand in the air. Again, I never told this because I didn't want to hear all the critics saying I am just making excuses, but here you go... This the same week that he had been in the hospital for two days (and did not tell the anyone) and had his side and foot cut open due to staph. He still said, I should have had it and made no excuses. Yes, he dropped a nicely thrown ball vs. Greeneville at Greeneville. Honestly analyze this situation: This was the game where he was benched for the first three quarters and then sent back in the game for one single bomb. Remember the temperature? Could you feel your hands and feet. You think he could? Honesty here, is that fair? Still, he beat himself up saying Dad I could'nt feel anything but I should have had it. No excuse from him.

In regards to last years passing game, maybe I spoke too truthfully and openly about it. I'm sure I did. I can see that. But that does not make me wrong and noone can object to the facts. If someone busts on the Saint or this years WR corp, especiailly a select few of last years players or parents, and I have to tell what this current bunch does extra outside of official South practices, as a group of all the starters ... then do not crucify me because this did not exist with key starters last season. In MY OPINOIN, which a huge amount of people at South and in the area share but won't state because they are more reserved than I, last year's passing game was tunnelvision and got in a predictable rut. Am I wrong Comp or am I just on a limb by myself? Right or wrong? Of course, I'm the bad guy for uttering it. People did get offended and for that I apologize. It was what it was and I was factual.

But here, this season, if you will see, I was propping up The Saint and once again speaking of the things HE has done, is doing, and will do. I can't help it if others did not do the same previously. Yes, I hear the WR's were off vs Betsy. I wasn't there. I don't know what happened specifically. I do know they have been trying several people out and moving people around, as a smart team will do in the summer. I do not know how Seth did before being knocked out of the scrimmage with a concussion. Yes, the Saint was missing the mark vs Powell, but they all came together in the jamboree. The Saint spread the rock around, and in just one quarter threw for over 100 yards and a bomb of a td over the shoulder in the corner of the end zone. Comp, was it you that said that would be missing this year? The long ball? Like there was a monopoly on that and they aren't capable. Scott, all I want is to shed light on the extra steps this group of Rebels has taken. How they are and will be fine. And how they really believe in each other this year. No doubt each of Coach Carter's classes have learned from the last and each class has given to improve the next. Can we move on now?

  8. Ok whoever you are, and I really dont know. I honestly dont care. If you know me, you're welcome to talk to me. Here's where you all missed my point and intentions. The Saint and his WRs have been criticized on here as if they are doing something wrong or not doing what the QB1 and WR1 did last season. Fact is, they work harder, whether you can accept that or not. I was pointing out that The Saint has put in as much work with his WRs over the past years than anyone. Like it or not, QB1 and WR1 did not put this in last year and the continuous critisizim from a couiple last years parents sheds a light on it. Yes, QB1 and WR1 last year were extremely gifted and blessed with talent and overcame it. As far as getting open goes as you or someone else stated, watch the fims my friend. All I can say is KK made some circus catches and I am a huge fan. Does that mean I am anti-Bradley. Heck no. He was an extrodinary athlete and his pic will hang on the wall at South forever. He deserves it. But don't try to act like all was perfect. Let me ask.... Did anyone ever compare your QB to Curt? Of course. Was it fair to do that? NO. But when people now want to down the QB1 this year or compare him and the passing game to last season, you're ok with it? And I can't have an oppinon? You aren't happy with me telling of all the great work that the QB and WRs have have put in? You aren't happy with the fact that the WRs work extra on weekends now? You should be dang proud of what was accomplished last year. They accomplished all state on shear God-given talent. They are good boys and I wish them well playing college football. This team this year may not be as talented at some of the indiviual positions, but they do use all their weapons and they do believe. So what's your beef?

Guys...leave Satch alone OK. Thanks for your support but let it go. It's tough being a Senior parent. It's really tough being an ex Senior parent. :roflol: It's really, really tough being the parent of the guy who couldn't punch in the last TD. :roflol: It's tough watching your son drop a beautifully calculated 60 yarder in the end zone much less having to hear the whipers of "that's it he's done" starting with the Science Hill game. :roflol: 'Cmon now...it's tough. He really did not mean it to sound the way it did. I was the one to recruit #1 when he was on the track team when he was a 6th grader. I went to his Mama and begged to let him play the next fall. I said this last year and I'll say it this year, put him in the backfield and throw him screens to get him warmed up. Heck, you get him the ball in space and he's gone anyway. So your wife vomits every time you make advances. Maybe you just make her sick. Maybe you should try a different approach. All the whisperers know that I have had #1's back all last year and since. I was chastised for it. I just don't give up that easily. Take Michael Acero. He was mine. Seth Johnson...mine. JJ mine! Well, Bobeye might belong to Wade Garvin but I love him too. Todays scrimmage was nothing. Satch is right...it's coming together. It's what Stacy does. Instead to look the other way give #1 a pat on the back and the St. Let them know that you know they "Got This"! Tell them they are walking in some big shoes right now and that it's time to open for business. Make them be responsible but make sure they know you are their spotter. Maybe a little different approach guys...they need us...yeah, that's right US! Who knows...maybe your wife won't feel so nauscious.

I was a senior parent and am NOW a former senior parent! And I have never gotten on here and blasted another parents kid so don't tell me to go easy on him! Believe me, no one wanted to see his (#1) succeed last year more than me!

When you only have one year to get it done and you go 12-0 (Until the Greeneville Debacle) and account for 3000 yds and 33 TD's and still have

comments being directed his way like the garbage he is spewing out is Ridiculous!

  9. Don't know you. Don't care who you are. I have a huge amount of respect for this entire Team. If you'll check my post, I didnt blame anyone for anything. Other people were downing the Rebs. Not I. Am I supposed to lie and say we had things last season that we didnt? Not gonna do it. You really need to take the rose colored glasses off. I was stating FACTS as to what the QB brings this year and why the passing game will be fine, and in my opinion better. I'm not saying the personal stats will be better, I'm saying the team will be better. Whats wrong with that opinion? I also have no clue what you are talking about with the "pre season workouts" last year. Oh, yes, there were some with the Saint and underclassmen. You certainly are confused on that one. Not sure if you are truly just ingnorant, you get your ideas second hand, or your just a bit off. Read my post again... I believe in the Rebels. I'm not the one on here spreading the manure my friend.

Once again i come to the boards for some good South info and find Satch on his Usual blame game and finger pointing. If you spent half as much time supporting this team as you did trying to bash it and what its done there would be no bigger fan. It's no secret who I am to those on this board and that Bradley is family, that's why I refrain to bash back on your son, he had a great year in football and looked real good in track, bashing him would make me look..............well...........childish and ignorant like yourself. But first you have to be open to get the ball regardless of reciever 1,2 or 3 then catch it and make something happen with it. I wouldn't get into typing threads about respect on any level because you seem to have none for these young men, now or ever that ive seen :roflol: . I still wonder why you talk of no pre season workouts last year, guess you guys just didnt have time to attend them. :roflol:

Good luck Rebels 09/10 . I'll have some more family members to root for this year in JJ and Hammonds. Good luck guys and go REBELS!!!!

  10. Once again Comp... you are wrong. You're guessing from left field or from opinions of former players. The WRs will mesh fine, with a QB they trust and respect. The entire WR corp trusts and respects both of the QBs this year. These WRs put in the extra work and have worked with both qbs. Both QBs have came out this year and worked with the WR corp. But there has never been a thought of a 2 qb system, the Saint is and has been from day 1 the QB1 this year. The Saint will keep the Saint at QB1. With Haden hurt, South is probably without his services at WR3. He is a very good athlete so expect him to find some playing time somewhere when he gets back to 100%. He'll be QB1 next year.

So, you wanna just move on to busting on college players in the fall?

Confirmation of what I and others have posted here. Heath throws a better looking ball. I also hear he is the better runner/scrambler.

The St. looks the part. His field presence and Heath's fragility will keep him the #1 man.

I'm betting St. takes the first Week 0 snap, but the real O leader will not be decided by then.

I think the worst part of this is the WR's. Worst case scenario is they won't mesh with either QB for trying to mesh with both...and each having different approaches will constantly confuse the WR's. I said early that Stacy would use both but I see now that that will not be a good thing. It's still early. Bradley didn't really come together until Science Hill. That's why Taylor had 29 carries. If you remember, the next week Bradley put on a show. You have to have faith that Stacy will pull it together and it will work. The fall scrimmages will tell a tale.

  11. Comp,

I am trying to avoid this coacht crap this year if you can tell. I havent even read anything on here in months. I am just catching up on reading a bit, just out of curiosity. So, this post I am replying to is on page 52 of 62 right at this moment. With that said, I dont know what comments have been posted since this one.

To answer your question directly, I'd say #15's observation is either premature or mistaken, probably both. I have seen the passing game look very good when I saw it recently. This group has what last year lacked. I saw a QB1 that is in charge and uses ALL his options. I saw a QB1 who hits the open route, short and deeeep. I saw WR1 and WR2 catching the ball and looking great. I heard a head coach telling a WR that one of the catches was one of the best he's seen. We will need some guys to step up at the other WR spots, and they will. This bunch has been working together alott outside of the official South practices in the spring and summer. Yes, Curt held a bunch of extra practices two years back and this needs to happen every year, and this did not happen last season - you know why. Be honest now Comp about "being almost ready by week 0". That's real funny. The Offense last year WAS almost ready all season, if you consider throwing to a single receiver and hand it to #15. Without #15, now that would have been grim. The QB never worked on any other weapons last year and you know it. So, sure it took allot of time for things to gel last year. St. Clair is right there with Curt when it comes to putting in the extra time with the WRs and working on himself. The last two-a-day practice I saw, they ran something like 20 windsprints - St. Clair finished 1st on each.

As far as it being "just not there" and "grim", well that is just wrong. I'll flip it a little here and I admonish you to go see as you asked others to do, instead of posting something that is just wrong. The lack of chemistry graduated in May. Chemistry, belief in the man next to you on the field and the depth chart, confidence, character, hope and belief - these things have never been higher to start the season. So, whether fans, parents, former players, competition are concerned or not, the 2009 Sullivan South Rebels team and coaches believe and will be ready to go.

#15 works out each morning with the Rebels and then goes to the gym for his afternoon workout in preparation for the fall. Currently the morning workout revolves around 7/7 as it did before the break. I think what is missing might be the extra 7/7 workout that the Senior Phillips held each evening while Curt was at South. We said the same thing last summer and by week 0 Bradley was just about ready. The consensus is that we aren't catching anything. I admonish some other parents to go to practice and see first hand what is happening. #15 says it is just not there. Not the QB and not the WR but both. No connection. He says it's looking grim. I remember thinking the same thing last year even as we went to full pads. I did not see any evidence of chemistry until we got to scrimmages in the later stages of preseason practice. Against Volunteer we had light chemistry but when we went down to see Jeff County it was nothing but Chemistry. We rocked. I wouldn't be concerned just yet. Stacy has a knack for putting the icing on the cake just before it is served. What do you think Satch? Is it going to come together?
  12. Far as I know,he will coach this fall.Coach was with the team in the spring and is as sharp as ever. Making those defensive calls with the way DB plays their front is what drives the defense.

Thanks Batman. I agree on Coacher. I know he's a sharp, and brilliant coach. I was there when he led Volunteer over D-B, and I have seen many amazing defensive teams since. But, when he does decide to take a well deserved retirement, you guys are loaded with good coaches.

  13. Please do not label all South fans as rednecks and classless. Every school has fans that seemingly cannot control themselves. I think some people just like to draw attention to themselves, but all they are doing is drawing bad publicity for the school that they support and embarrassing their children. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

KD, yes, their all encompassing characterization is incorrect. One big point, as they paint all the South fans as "rednecks", that isn't said out loud is - it is no secret who BTaylorMom, Comp, and others are. There are people on both sides that are upfront.. Skunk is a good DB fan example. Skunk is a stand-up guy and everyone knows who he is. He isn't a cowardly lion. On the otherhand, you have cowards like etmemphisfan, dbfan91, and waco who will not own up to who they really are. They enjoy being masked insult-slinging superheros too much. They just buzz in and out of South, TN, Science Hill, and other threads, stirring things up and laying down insults that are technically allowed by CoachT. Watch and see them respond to this post in a classless, cute way, as expected. I'm sure they'll come up with something clever ... and again, cowardly. Not worth a response.

But, we do need to move on to focus on the high school football season. So...

  14. YUP. I heard Coach Stubbs already spent about $5000 on new equiptment and gonna spend another $5000

    on O-LINE sled. Also heard

WE ARE GONNA PASS THE BALL, AND WE WILL PASS THE BALL A LOT........

Could be a scary thing for NET teams. I remember seeing Harmon in the first Region 1 Middle school championship at Colonial Heights. He could sling the ball 60 yards then. I have always been amazed that he didnt play earlier and the O wasnt tweaked to his strengths. Bristol should have some decent speed at WR as well. Why don't you guys wait a year before trying anything new though! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

  15. Crawdad...I put no stock whatsoever in spring ball. I assume you were there and even though there were highlights overall they need work. They will be ready come August. You'll see. It will come together. I have faith in the boss and the system. Who will the leader be...because you can't go no where without a leader. I think Heath was a highlight...he looked the part.

Spring ball doesnt mean anything. That is true. So it is good we take little from this scrimmge for either the Rebs or Clones. We need to keep in mind, this Rebel team was without BOTH potential All-State LBs, Garvin and Phillips, D1 prospect Big 'ole Jake Logue only played a couple of series, Juggernaut Bobby is just getting back after a groin pull, Speed Merchant Seth is out as well healing the hammy, and many of the key players including Zman Zanoni and Haden have only had 4-5 days back since baseball ran so long. They looked fine. I do wonder if Betsy has dropped off a bit since last year and this helped the Rebs' cause. Didn't look like the bus from Elizabethton brought many this year.

But, I'll tell you the player that looked good, that would be the Saint. Every single player on this team trusts him and HE will Lead. This is what the Rebs' need. He won't throw everyone on his back and run in victorys like Curt did. But he'll guide his team as one unit, implementing the right plays and personal when needed and when best. This kid walked off the baseball field and was audibling to better plays in practice on day 1. Heath looked good too. It's nice knowing Heath will be there if and when needed. He's another smart QB/Field General, like the Saint. He'll get a bunch of 2nd half time. 2nd half time with the Rebs can be as extensive as a starting QB position at most schools. I noticed thrown balls from both the Saint and Haden have the same trajectory/spin/look to them. What I mean is the spin is nice and tight with the nose slightly up. Curt's ball was like that with more gitty-up, which I am told is easier to catch. But, hey, I'm just an old DE.

The Rebs running game will be good again as Bobby is hard to handle. Looks like there will be backups to spare as well. I believe the passing game has the potential to be better in '09 as the open WR will be found and hit... short or DEEP. The Saint showed his arm well in the scrimmage. Passes from the Saint have wise direction and calculated intention. The Reb D will be extremely tough across the line, at LB, and in defensive backfield. Long and Solt looked good, and are ready to go. Dillon and Jake will be very very good, they welcome the brave qb who brings the option their way... here's a hint, better pitch it fast. A defensive tackle who's probably 6'5" 250+lbs, strong as a bull, and ran a 4.3 shuttle at the Nike combine is downright scary. I also am looking forward to seeing JC Garvin stepping up to the varsity level. He could be bigger than Ty and he'll be stud just like older brother. Come August, things will be fun.... and yes, should be another long season with another deep run.

  16. Hustle you always got good stuff to say about whoever you posting with. I know you Viking fan and you seem to be partial to Unicoi but you never talked bad about anyone. It's easier to see it how it its when you don't have a dog in the hunt. I always tried to be real but I know sometimes I was not.

Me and Cap had this discussion way back in '06. Only DC I ever seen put pressure on the QB was Watson. Other than than nobody knows how to play corner. Nobody knows how to teach corner play. Anybody ever heard of bump and run. How about man coverage. Highschool QB's throw to one man maybe two. It don't take rocket scientry. Eight to ten yard cushion...what's up? You want to watch film of a real corner? Watch Josef Throp. And to be honest...no one knows how to run a route either. It's no different than if you watched any track & field this year. Pay attention to the relays and tell me who taught them to hand off a baton. My daughter went to Oak Ridge and it was even going on down there. Nobody teaches the basics. There are basics for all skill positions that don't change. If you don't know them what you gonna' do? Corner is probably the hardest position to play on the field. And requires a special skill set. And requires technique. You don't know the technique it's like trying to cook with no knowledge of what spice to use. Most times in HS it's the position that gets the leftovers. Not good. When it comes to corner old school is best.

The huge cushion by corners is certainly the standard in NET. I personally have seen vastly different versions of corner/wr play in TN in the past, say 9 years of my observing. Also observed at many, many camps and combine 1 on 1's over the past three years, and kids from other areas will make the WR's fight to get off the line. Great experience. Comp, I may be a bit partial, but "some" NET WR's have been taught to get off the line vs. press coverage. They just don't have to until meeting teams from the west deep in the playoffs. OHHH, I wish NET teams would play the Rebs with press coverage....please please. If you know what I mean!

  17. Arron made quite an impression at the Oak Ridge Sectionals for Region 1 & 2. Won the 100m dash with 10.95 and 200m dash with 22.70. Also Jeremiah Foster, also from Sevier County, won the 110m Hurdles with a 15.19. 4.100m relay with Pippin, Foster, Matt Spangler and Brandon White won with a time of 42.9.

Look out for Sevier County. They are coming on strong.

Good luck at State, J. Foster and other three East Tennessee hurdlers. Hope you rep East TN well. Have to say the hurdles was a big bummer for us in NET, as the Section 1 Class AAA top qualifier from Sullivan South, JR - Seth Watterson, repulled his hammy out of the blocks in Oak Ridge. As always, he was first out of the blocks in Oak Ridge but pulled it before hurdle 1. Seth's qualifying time was 15.18 electronic and that was when he was only about 80%. Fully expected a time in the 14's. He may have been East TN's best shot at a 110M hurdle title, but hopefully those remaining can shock middle and west TN.

    Hammy injuries blow!

Good luck again to the four East TN hurlders.

  18. Bulk of the Rebel footballers just getting back into the swing with baseball ending, and Clint and Seth sitting out the spring, how has the team looked this week in practice? Heard it was tough to do much last week w/o the key rising seniors.

  19. Hey, spring practice starting next week got me thinking about scrimmages. The Rebs will still have Elizabethton the last day of spring practice... BUT, it seems when things ramp back up after the summer, the calendar has changed a bit. Jeff Co had been penciled in, but they are gone. Last year's scrimmage at Jeff Co, was, well, lop-sided to say the least. Guess they didn't want to come to Sully Co. It looks as if the days of other easy scrimmage opponents like Cocke Co and Happy Valley are through. 9-3 Powell comes to Death Valley. They beat Knox West in '08, South's opening opponent in '09, by just 2 points. So, this might be very useful. Fun for sure.

Wow, ya think West has a tough '09 schedule...it's Murder's Row!

  20. Hey South fans,

My favorite folks to stir up! Sorry for runnin the mouth too much the other day, I was just bored and wanted it to be like the old days on here. Anyways, I respect South and admit I think they could go undefeated this year. Yes, I said it. My question to you all? Who do you want to beat more, DB or those Devils? Looks like both are home. DB beat you bad in 2006 at DB the last game we played. Those Devils shocked the state when they upset you all last year. I would imagine that I would like to beat the Devils more, but I can not speak for you guys. Tell me. PS, I know TN High is supposed to be good too.

    Bud,

IMO, South will always want to beat the Indians first and foremost. Bud, honestly, D-B doesn't have any comrads within the ranks of other local high school teams. All the other high school teams want to beat D-B, and they want to see D-B lose. But, D-B has to know this. The G'Devils are a recent thorn for the Rebels however. A large number of the returning Rebels either started or saw significant playing time last year, so the G'ville defeat will be fresh.

You are correct, Bud. South does have D-B and G'ville at Home this year. They also have TN High and Science Hill at home. This Rebel class couldn't ask for more. As we all know, D-B at D-B is a different animal.

Yes, 2006 was ugly. The game snowballed and no changes were made to stop the slaughter.

As far as this fall goes, the current South class is another strong one, and this class has laid the wood to the current D-B class for years. They are confident and believe, but work hard and are taking noone for granted. But some kind of magic is instilled into the D-B kids when they hit that varsity level. I wish it could be bottled and sold. Even when D-B is supposed to be "down", Coach Clark, Watson, and crew have a way of making a championship team out of them. So, this year could be interesting.

Oh, and you're right. Tennessee High will be good this year.

Also, as a newly assigned 6A team, the Indians better not overlook Gilligan and the boys from the Hill. Gotta get that win to get the playoff spot out of the way. Gilligan has had time now to implement "his football" in Johnson City. So, Gilligan is on the clock now IMO ...we'll see.

  21. You can get a good feel for times by looking at the results from last year (and looking for underclassmen).

TSSAA has previous years listed; boys and girls:

    http://www.tssaa.org/2007Champions/StateTr...e.htm(2007/2008 school year)

Other than that it is hard to tell because not a lot of meets are posted.

Then, you are not sure if it is electronic timing or hand-timing.

    Sorry about the previous link...

Thanks FFFan. Only problem is TSSAA left off the grade of about half the kids.
