  1. Luke Keirsey?? Didn't know Luke was a coach. Yes Comp, from Volunteer, Class of '88, and played with Mike F.
  2. Ya hit it the nail on the head here, Batman. Speaking as a parent of an athlete that had collegiate offers, very good offers, on the table, and to see him decide to hang it up an persue just his studies in Knoxville, we all need to cut the kids a break that decide to not to play. Sure we are dissapointed, but the kids may have reasons like concentrating on other sports or activities, then again they may just be burnt out. I'm sure their parents are just as proud of their kids, as we are ours. Did I mention 2nd in the state in 110M Hurdles? haha wink wink. I'll be more proud of him when he graduates in orange.
  3. How did the Valley look at the track meet at D-B yesterday? DB, as always a beast on the track. But South has speed and jumps. Pickwell goes 6'8 which is 2" better than state top jump last year. Watterson goes 15.3 in the 110 which is way ahead of the first of last year. Lots of footballers, even linemen are running. Even the 4x100, mostly sophs, is right with DB, but DB fell on last pass. South won in 45.9. Distance runners get personal bests almost every run. south in top three in most mens events. Maybe not as many ladies running as in past but good performance by many. And they look like they are having fun. The big blob of columbia blue in the infield is really pretty too. South had to easily come in second in the 6 school meet. It was early in the season and a little cool as well. Some athletes weren't pushing hard yet. DB has very good middle and long distance, both boys and girls. Hope the two young men who fell in the spring relay handoff are recovering well. Looks like they both got some pretty bad track burn. The young lady with the blonde long hair who sprints for DB is an impressive runner in everything she enters as well. Science Hill wasn't there, and their ladies team is traditionally tops. In boys' sprints, I would expect to see Sensabaugh and Steele (as he returns from baketball) from DB, Watterson and Riddle from South, and the young man from Greeneville around 10.9 or better in the 100M as the season progresses. Not sure of their potential in the 200M. Like I said, it's early yet. As far as Sullivan South goes, as the season progresses, I've been impressed to see the positive direction Coaches Hilton and Jordan are taking the team. They had like 70 kids com out for track. Wow! I wouldn't be surprised to see Pickwell get close to 7'. He finished 2nd in state last year and had very very little instruction on high jump at that point. Pure raw talent. His form is much better this year and the sky's the limit. He'll be a steal for some college who could let him jump and play roundball. Watterson hit 4 hurldes, hitting one hard enough that it broke but still had a 15.3. Finished last year before the slight hammy thing at Oak Ridge, with a 15.1. I've seen him in practice looking much faster and smoother this season. If he isn't in at least the mid 14's by season end, we'll kick his tail! HAHA His quad was cramping a bit in the 100M run later in the meet, so after that he opted out of the 200M. Too cool to push anything. Hoping to see him in the state decathlon this year as well. Allot of South underclassmen are stepping up this season for the Rebels. Crowe looks really good in the 400M. I personally think he could be a 49 sec guy. The Rebs lost allot of sprinters to graduation last year. Allot of football players are out there working and contributing, which is great. I did notice one of the sprint relay included three linebackers - You don't see that everyday. The Rebs will get an extra boost when Riddle visits from the baseball team later in the season. Riddle won the fastest back in the football jamboree last season. I do miss seeing Abby Fletcher on the track. I truly believe she could win several events incl the hurdles and be a force in the girls multievent (heptathlon?). I understand she is concentrating on offseason roundball. The Reb girls' team misses her points.
  4. Who in your area are the top AAA 110M Hurdlers? What times have they ran in 2009 and/or expect to run in 2010? Who are the leaders in the hunt for State?
  5. Watterson is probably looking for a call from a track team. Especially after he finishes top 3 in the state this year in the 110 hurdles. SSReb... Yep. Six on the table, NAIA thru Div 1. A couple of really good ones with offers that are fantastic for track. Has his eyes set on one in particular, who has yet to get solid. He has informed all the football potentials that he has hung up the cleats. Spikes are still out.
  6. Comp, ole buddy. Popped on to catch up and reaad a little (i must be really bored). I retired from posting as you know. Making this exception. Let's try to not point anything out for them on here please. BUT, I wanted to reassure you a bit. Remember all the combines and camps since sophomore year? B-N-R running at WR & DB vs some of the best, many D1 DB's, at Wake, Furman, Appy State, combines in ATL, CLT, DC, Cincy, Nashville, Etc. Then there's the whole Miami instruction specific to this. They (we took more than one with us) HAVE seen the bump and run many years during summers and are chomping at the bit for someone to try it. I hope this IS a track meet. Can we set up some hurdles too? See you all there.
  7. In fact, ya know what, I'm done on here for good. I'll give you all the last twisted word. Decide how honest you want to be though, and then all the other people reading it need to decide if you are going to sit back and let the bull stick. You all know the truth, and you all want me to stand alone and be the only one back then with guts to call a spade a spade, well so be it. I may have been wrong in my limited wording, but I only stated the facts. You just could not accept them. I'm done with you guys and your rose-colored daddy glasses. Drop it all, don't even respond and move on to talking football. I'm gone.
  8. Scott, not sure why you brought that up or him into it? I know you never took shots, and I don't see anyone else taking shots now. Last year however, you can count on one hand the number of balls he has dropped in three years. No more than anyone else last year, or anyone else muffing punts and kicks. Should we hold incompletions and intentional groundings to the same standard? Should we add up incompletions due to poorly thrown balls? Of course not. So, to label him that way holds no water. So (dand it!) Do you want the truth that I held back because people will say I am making excuses? Ok, Scott I'll get hammered probably but here's the rest of the story. Comp, if you want to chime in with an honest post here's your opportunity to back me up. Yes, Seth dropped a nicely thrown ball in game one vs. SH. Watch the film and you will see he wasn't looked at again after that regardless of being open allot - across the middle with hand in the air. Again, I never told this because I didn't want to hear all the critics saying I am just making excuses, but here you go... This the same week that he had been in the hospital for two days (and did not tell the anyone) and had his side and foot cut open due to staph. He still said, I should have had it and made no excuses. Yes, he dropped a nicely thrown ball vs. Greeneville at Greeneville. Honestly analyze this situation: This was the game where he was benched for the first three quarters and then sent back in the game for one single bomb. Remember the temperature? Could you feel your hands and feet. You think he could? Honesty here, is that fair? Still, he beat himself up saying Dad I could'nt feel anything but I should have had it. No excuse from him. In regards to last years passing game, maybe I spoke too truthfully and openly about it. I'm sure I did. I can see that. But that does not make me wrong and noone can object to the facts. If someone busts on the Saint or this years WR corp, especiailly a select few of last years players or parents, and I have to tell what this current bunch does extra outside of official South practices, as a group of all the starters ... then do not crucify me because this did not exist with key starters last season. In MY OPINOIN, which a huge amount of people at South and in the area share but won't state because they are more reserved than I, last year's passing game was tunnelvision and got in a predictable rut. Am I wrong Comp or am I just on a limb by myself? Right or wrong? Of course, I'm the bad guy for uttering it. People did get offended and for that I apologize. It was what it was and I was factual. But here, this season, if you will see, I was propping up The Saint and once again speaking of the things HE has done, is doing, and will do. I can't help it if others did not do the same previously. Yes, I hear the WR's were off vs Betsy. I wasn't there. I don't know what happened specifically. I do know they have been trying several people out and moving people around, as a smart team will do in the summer. I do not know how Seth did before being knocked out of the scrimmage with a concussion. Yes, the Saint was missing the mark vs Powell, but they all came together in the jamboree. The Saint spread the rock around, and in just one quarter threw for over 100 yards and a bomb of a td over the shoulder in the corner of the end zone. Comp, was it you that said that would be missing this year? The long ball? Like there was a monopoly on that and they aren't capable. Scott, all I want is to shed light on the extra steps this group of Rebels has taken. How they are and will be fine. And how they really believe in each other this year. No doubt each of Coach Carter's classes have learned from the last and each class has given to improve the next. Can we move on now?
  9. Ok whoever you are, and I really dont know. I honestly dont care. If you know me, you're welcome to talk to me. Here's where you all missed my point and intentions. The Saint and his WRs have been criticized on here as if they are doing something wrong or not doing what the QB1 and WR1 did last season. Fact is, they work harder, whether you can accept that or not. I was pointing out that The Saint has put in as much work with his WRs over the past years than anyone. Like it or not, QB1 and WR1 did not put this in last year and the continuous critisizim from a couiple last years parents sheds a light on it. Yes, QB1 and WR1 last year were extremely gifted and blessed with talent and overcame it. As far as getting open goes as you or someone else stated, watch the fims my friend. All I can say is KK made some circus catches and I am a huge fan. Does that mean I am anti-Bradley. Heck no. He was an extrodinary athlete and his pic will hang on the wall at South forever. He deserves it. But don't try to act like all was perfect. Let me ask.... Did anyone ever compare your QB to Curt? Of course. Was it fair to do that? NO. But when people now want to down the QB1 this year or compare him and the passing game to last season, you're ok with it? And I can't have an oppinon? You aren't happy with me telling of all the great work that the QB and WRs have have put in? You aren't happy with the fact that the WRs work extra on weekends now? You should be dang proud of what was accomplished last year. They accomplished all state on shear God-given talent. They are good boys and I wish them well playing college football. This team this year may not be as talented at some of the indiviual positions, but they do use all their weapons and they do believe. So what's your beef? I was a senior parent and am NOW a former senior parent! And I have never gotten on here and blasted another parents kid so don't tell me to go easy on him! Believe me, no one wanted to see his (#1) succeed last year more than me! When you only have one year to get it done and you go 12-0 (Until the Greeneville Debacle) and account for 3000 yds and 33 TD's and still have comments being directed his way like the garbage he is spewing out is Ridiculous!
  10. Don't know you. Don't care who you are. I have a huge amount of respect for this entire Team. If you'll check my post, I didnt blame anyone for anything. Other people were downing the Rebs. Not I. Am I supposed to lie and say we had things last season that we didnt? Not gonna do it. You really need to take the rose colored glasses off. I was stating FACTS as to what the QB brings this year and why the passing game will be fine, and in my opinion better. I'm not saying the personal stats will be better, I'm saying the team will be better. Whats wrong with that opinion? I also have no clue what you are talking about with the "pre season workouts" last year. Oh, yes, there were some with the Saint and underclassmen. You certainly are confused on that one. Not sure if you are truly just ingnorant, you get your ideas second hand, or your just a bit off. Read my post again... I believe in the Rebels. I'm not the one on here spreading the manure my friend.
  11. Once again Comp... you are wrong. You're guessing from left field or from opinions of former players. The WRs will mesh fine, with a QB they trust and respect. The entire WR corp trusts and respects both of the QBs this year. These WRs put in the extra work and have worked with both qbs. Both QBs have came out this year and worked with the WR corp. But there has never been a thought of a 2 qb system, the Saint is and has been from day 1 the QB1 this year. The Saint will keep the Saint at QB1. With Haden hurt, South is probably without his services at WR3. He is a very good athlete so expect him to find some playing time somewhere when he gets back to 100%. He'll be QB1 next year. So, you wanna just move on to busting on college players in the fall? I think the worst part of this is the WR's. Worst case scenario is they won't mesh with either QB for trying to mesh with both...and each having different approaches will constantly confuse the WR's. I said early that Stacy would use both but I see now that that will not be a good thing. It's still early. Bradley didn't really come together until Science Hill. That's why Taylor had 29 carries. If you remember, the next week Bradley put on a show. You have to have faith that Stacy will pull it together and it will work. The fall scrimmages will tell a tale.
  12. Comp, I am trying to avoid this coacht crap this year if you can tell. I havent even read anything on here in months. I am just catching up on reading a bit, just out of curiosity. So, this post I am replying to is on page 52 of 62 right at this moment. With that said, I dont know what comments have been posted since this one. To answer your question directly, I'd say #15's observation is either premature or mistaken, probably both. I have seen the passing game look very good when I saw it recently. This group has what last year lacked. I saw a QB1 that is in charge and uses ALL his options. I saw a QB1 who hits the open route, short and deeeep. I saw WR1 and WR2 catching the ball and looking great. I heard a head coach telling a WR that one of the catches was one of the best he's seen. We will need some guys to step up at the other WR spots, and they will. This bunch has been working together alott outside of the official South practices in the spring and summer. Yes, Curt held a bunch of extra practices two years back and this needs to happen every year, and this did not happen last season - you know why. Be honest now Comp about "being almost ready by week 0". That's real funny. The Offense last year WAS almost ready all season, if you consider throwing to a single receiver and hand it to #15. Without #15, now that would have been grim. The QB never worked on any other weapons last year and you know it. So, sure it took allot of time for things to gel last year. St. Clair is right there with Curt when it comes to putting in the extra time with the WRs and working on himself. The last two-a-day practice I saw, they ran something like 20 windsprints - St. Clair finished 1st on each. As far as it being "just not there" and "grim", well that is just wrong. I'll flip it a little here and I admonish you to go see as you asked others to do, instead of posting something that is just wrong. The lack of chemistry graduated in May. Chemistry, belief in the man next to you on the field and the depth chart, confidence, character, hope and belief - these things have never been higher to start the season. So, whether fans, parents, former players, competition are concerned or not, the 2009 Sullivan South Rebels team and coaches believe and will be ready to go.
  13. Thanks Batman. I agree on Coacher. I know he's a sharp, and brilliant coach. I was there when he led Volunteer over D-B, and I have seen many amazing defensive teams since. But, when he does decide to take a well deserved retirement, you guys are loaded with good coaches.
  14. KD, yes, their all encompassing characterization is incorrect. One big point, as they paint all the South fans as "rednecks", that isn't said out loud is - it is no secret who BTaylorMom, Comp, and others are. There are people on both sides that are upfront.. Skunk is a good DB fan example. Skunk is a stand-up guy and everyone knows who he is. He isn't a cowardly lion. On the otherhand, you have cowards like etmemphisfan, dbfan91, and waco who will not own up to who they really are. They enjoy being masked insult-slinging superheros too much. They just buzz in and out of South, TN, Science Hill, and other threads, stirring things up and laying down insults that are technically allowed by CoachT. Watch and see them respond to this post in a classless, cute way, as expected. I'm sure they'll come up with something clever ... and again, cowardly. Not worth a response. But, we do need to move on to focus on the high school football season. So...
  15. Indian faithful, what's the word on Coacher Watson? It had been previously rumored that he was thinking of retiring. MUCH respect for Coacher Watson.
