  1. They need to keep the regions as even as possible.  How is it fair to have one region have five teams in it and a team that is 1-9 advance to the playoffs while another region has ten teams in it and teams with winning records get left out.  The whole idea is to get the best teams in and the format makes things unfair.  There has to be some way to balance the regions better.

If you are willing to pay for it all, I say let's go for it! The reson we are a five team region is that we are the only 1A schools east of Knoxville. On average, how long does it take for everyone else to get to a conferance game. O.K. here at Unaka, this is our travel time to conferance games:

Cloudland- about half an hour North Greene- about an hour-and-a-half

Cosby- two-and-a-half to three hours Jelico- at least four hours

I think Jelico shouldn't even be in our conference. Heck they are farther west than CAK or Greenback, region 2A schools. But they had to have more than four teams in a conferance, that is why Jelico is here.

  2. DekeRivers, you are almost always acurate in your prodictions. But I don't think it will be a 50-60 piont spread. I say abou 40-45, but thats just me, a player. You are the sports writer. Anyway, Cloudland will keep their staters in as long as it is not embericing for both teams. It won't get to out of hand like some games, but Cloudland's starters need more than a half of playing time to warm up for rounds 3 and 4.

  3. Oneida travels to North Greene this week. Any information about North Greene is appreciated.

Well, it has been two months since I have seen them, but I pretty sure they have good speed. They are small number-wise, but they are able to surprise you. That is all the info I can give you....Could you help Unaka out and shed some light on Midway?

  4. I didn't know 21st Century was public.... Anyway, with a small school division(say with a attendence of 250 or below) Schools would have to travel a long way to play, wouldn't they? I know that small schools are more abundant in west Tenn., but what about the ones from the east? Cloudland(about 210-220 in attendence) would have to travel 3 or four hours to get to a small schcool.... what is the closest "small school" to Cloudland. Shoot, who are all the small schools in the first place..... just wondering

  5. Just how good is Unaka going to be this year? I know Lewis & Chambers will be an impact, but who else is going to leave a mark? I understand that one of the stand out soph's has a bad knee and won't be playing...  sorry, can't remember his name...  seeems like it is Brent ?  But who else is there?

Yes, Chambers will be an impact, but Lewis is not playing. Hasn't played since his sophmore year. The one with the bad knee is McInturff. But to answer you question, we also have two other great seniors. Collins and Jones. Derick Cline, a junior, is also a very capable player. And people may remember Tee Blevins from baseball? Well, it just so happens that he is pretty good at basketball too.

  6. I honestly don't know why we(Unaka) were not invited. They obviosly don't really care if they have good teams or not, then they wouldn't have the likes of Sullivan East. If you want to see better games, just come to Round Ball in the Hall, and see us play Bristol and Science Hill.

  7. Greenback played Gatlinburg Pittman last night, Final was 31 to 7. Half time score Was 7 to 0 G.P. But Greenback was in the game until the third and G.P. capitalized on some big mistakes.

Greenback has palyed several tough 2a and 3a teams, so they should be ready. Midway played Rockwood and Oliver Springs which are the #1 and # 2 seeds in Region 2 2a. The top 5 teams in Region 2 1a are not more than a touchdown apart. Cloudland has a good team, but they will definately be tested through the quarter finals.

They will probably play CAK first round, Then Midway second round, and if they make it past that , they will get the winner of the Onieda / Greenback game for the Quarter finals. So Cloudland will not have to worry about getting tested for Sp or Boyd.

So the winner of the unaka(if we win tonight, which is probable)and midway game play the winner of the Cloudland-CAK? I was just wondering since I didn't know how it all worked.

  8. Well, I believe the main reson, in most cases anyway, is the quality of education. I go to Unaka, a very under-funded school, as are most public schools at this time. Let's face it, in almost every case, you WILL get a better education at a private school. Better facilities. Better learning atmosher. Really, the ones paying to go to school aren't going to goof up all the time so evereone there wants to learn.......Saddly, though, I think some parents send their kids to a private school for the sole porpose of athletics.

  9. I NEVER PLAYED FOOTBALL, BUT I CHEERED FOR 4 YEARS. THE WORST FIELD I EVER CHEERED ON WAS COSBY. THEY HAD OLD WORKOUT EQUIPMENT PAST THE END ZONE! THEY ALSO HAD COWS RIGHT NEXT TO THE BLEACHERS. IT WAS A MONSTROSITY. THE F-BALL PLAYERS TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE POT HOLES TOO. SUNBRIGHT IS PRETTY BAD TOO!

Cosby has got a new, and fairly nice, field........ And I have to agree, Chuckey-Doek's "Black Hole" is preety bad.

  10. To seniors all across the state of Tennessee( football players, cheerleaders, and band members), for many of you, this is your last week. You have put years of you life dedicated to your school's program. But this is it. For alot of teams not making the play-offs, this is the last game of football your seniors will ever play, unless you have been gifted by great talent and can play at the collage ranks. For four, or even more, years you have worked your butts of ever single practice and game for your school. Tomorrow is Senior Night at Unaka and nine great players will walk across that field as the home team for the last time. It is a day I dred when my time comes in a few years..... So to Joey, Andrew, Scott, David, Irick, Rucker, Jordan, Tory, Garbo, and every other senior in Tennessee , thank you so much. Its been fun. Good luck and God Bless.

  11. Well its true, I think Unaka will be very good this year.  But when Unaka comes down to Cloudland its always a tough game.

Lets face it, the L.A. Lakers would have a hard time playing in Roan Mtn. Its just so hard to win up there. Good luck to the 'Landers this season, exept when you play us of course!

CreekerCalhoun, I stand up for you at school, but I won't on here. So watch what you say on here. Don't say anything stupid!( I know thats hard for you to do. :D)

  12. unaka? maybe.....but u have to also consider that westmoreland also returned everyone and was beaten only by trousdale county in overtime not to have the district title....maybe so maybe not but id watch the eagles opener against portland to see if they are the real deal

Thanks, I don't really keep track of anyone west of Knoxville. But I'll keep an eye out for them.

  13. Just been hearing alot of talk but is unaka supposed to be as good as everyones saying there gonna be?

Well, it is impossible to say for sure until we start playing. But the same team(aside from three players: one from graduation, one from questionable inelagability, and one from knee injury)who beat UH twice is returning. Yes the same UH who went to the 1A semifinals last year. All the key players are returning: Rusty Chambers(East Tenn. leading scorer, all classifacations) Josh Jones, Derick Cline, Cody Collins. Keep an eye out for sophmores Josh Lowe, Aaron Greer, and Tee Blevins. Also returning are Tyler McCann, Rusty Holtsclaw, and Chase Reeves. We also have, in my opinion, a fairly promising freshman in Brandon Roper. So, you may want to watch out for us come March.

  14. Greenfield.....LOL obviously you guys havent seen unaka yet, everybody back from last year and they are loaded take a look at there schedule on here ;)

Yes, it may seem daunting when you first look at it, but after a little wh...... who am I kidding, we have a very tough schedual: Science Hill, Tennessee High, Knox. Catholic, Temple, just to name a few. But I think it will help(and honestly, I think we can pretty much handle it).

  15. I'm looking forward to the trip. Some friends from Chuckey-Doak have had a lot of very nice things to say about the Catholic campus, field, fans, and team.

Yeah, they are pretty nice people. And their campus, man, it is nice! When we played them in basketball, when we got there, we thought we had taken a wrong turn(one of many :D ) and had mistakenly parked at a small collage. I'm sure they will be a class act......Good luck!

  16. I"m aware of the Chambers kid. Who else do you look for?

    Ranger basketball

I can't say much about basketball, CoachT may not like it since this is a football forum. :D If you want full coverage, wait till Monday evening when the basketball forum opens. But for now, 4 names to watch out for: Chambers, Cline, Collins, and Jones. :)

  17. Of course you do realize that you are allowed in football to schedule teams other than the ones in your region. So you could schedule better competition in your non- region schedule a few of the 1 A teams around here schedule 3 and 4 A schools teams that are pretty good in heir divisions. Guess you didn't think about that though. Look at CPA they played a 5 A school first

They try. Appalachia VA and J.J. Kelly VA were great last year. Shoot, Appalachia was runner-up. It's just they have combined for one win this season.
