Smyrna is all business week after week. All this talk about anyone over looking or wanting revenge is all non sense. Both teams know from this point on its all about being prepared and once the game starts executing what you do and not making mistakes. The one thing I noted as Smyrna progressed last yr was everything is amplified. 1st downs feel like td's and 12 yard runs feel like 50 yard runs. One fumble or one penalty can be a killer. I guarantee you this week this thread will be nothing but about how hot wc is right now and how they will now get revenge on smyrna. There won't be 3 people outside of Smyrna pick smyrna to win this game. 2p is so far the only one that seems to recognize that smyrna is a very talented team that can do a lot of things offensively and has a defense that can run. Also why is it that for a team to win the other team has to be over looking them? From the way it sounds wc beat riverdale in every phase and won the game because they were better friday night. One of these teams will lose friday night and it will not be because anyboy over looked anybody.

I wasn't referring to you on the bandwoagon but rather if you read the post the vast majority are. I think Smyrna matches up very well with wc and is one of the few teams that can run with their speed. wc deserves all the credit in the world and as I noted if you read the wc vs riverdale post I may have even been on their bandwagon /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> But ----- I will probably get off this week!

I can not tell you how important last year experience was to Smyrna. They know very well its one game at a time. it reminds me of the movie the untouchables with sean connery and kevin costner in one scene conners character ask Eliiott Ness " do you really want to get Capone? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to get him?" Its the same thing in the title hunt Do you really want to put on thoses pads again this week and go out in the cold and rain and beat on each other for another week? Do you really want to go through another week beat up and banged up all over? Once you have been there you realize the price you have to pay to get Capone Bryson is special and 3 more years and probably 15 more pounds later he has a chance to be the next division I player from Smyrna.

both sonny and mcchurch run their offenses exactly as they are designed. It is comparing apples and oranges. Mcchurch's offense depends on a lot of different players being in the offense mix Smyrnas is focused with Sonny as the emphasis. the wc bandwagon is approaching over load capacity. wc goes from huge underdog to prohibitive favorite over night.

good post and I agree with all of it. Moran is as tough as they come. Smyrna had a peanlty called for an ineligible receiver. The official on the end said the wr was not on the line. Well he is the official the wr asked as they always do "on the line" and the official signaled he was and then called the penalty? It had no effect because smyrna scored the next play but it was still like ?????? Lc was very frustrated the entire game for whatever reason and they let it show a lot. I think you may have saw some of the stuff from a few players I did and it was not reflective of the entire team or what you expect from lc. You are correct Smyrna won because they had a better team with more speed and it is that simple. 93 could you answer this question? does lc run that basic eye formation offense because they dont have the talent to run anything more wide open or is it just what coach thompson is comfortable with?

riverdaleman/lod/tdc I know you guys are down right now and there are not more loyal fans than you guys. I think riverdale folks can now see what it is like to not finish the season in the bcbs bowl. I said many times during riverdales great run "do their fans realize how special what they are doing is?" I know you 3 did. By saying last night was the end of a dynasty in a way is a compliment. You have to establish a dynasty to have one ended. Will riverdale be bad? Absolutely not. Coach Adeylott is a good coach and his teams will be competitive. But sooner or later talent evens out and right now other teams in the region are getting more and more talent from the middle schools and freshman. riverdale: 2004 - state champs 2005 - lost in semis 2006 - lost in quarters 2007 - lost in 2nd round Riverdale will be in the hunt now just like everyone else but no longer a lock to be in murfreesboro in december As for riverdales wing t - they will never win the state chamionship running their power run version. Many folks think wc runs the wing t and while technically they are correct wc runs a much more varied version with a little veer type component and option and also is able to throw it. Riverdaleman -- come on over to smyrna friday night and support your in laws I dont want to even think about the region next year because it is going to get tougher every year.

Oh the pit is still a good place and what you said is what I meant it does need some updating. lc looked very un preparred and was undisciplined on both sides of the ball. They looked and acted like nothing you would expect out of a team coached by coach thompson. telling stats lc 29 rushes for------------------------ net 22 yards lc total offense--------------------------- 92 yards ( most of that on a late scoring drive score 30 -2) lc passing----------------------------------- 5 for 13 for 70 yards with 3 ints ( virtually all that came on 1 pass in the 3rd qtr). Smyrna passing 10 for 13 no ints and 163 yards Bryson 22 rushes for 91 yards and he has now crossed 1000 yards as freshman.

my view my opinion lc is just not very good - they remind me of gallatin. They have a few good players but no where near enough to do much outside region 3. lc - finished the 1st half with significant negative yardage ( asisted by 2 snaps over the qb's head) and their offense scored only one of the tds late after it was 30 to 2. Every pass route smyrna was ready for even the opening on side kick smyrna knew was coming but as onsdie kicks do it bounced off a waiting player. Everyone knows lc loves the fb in the flat and the halfback pass and covered them well. I dont know if it is lack of offensive imagination or the lack of talent to run a more open style offense? smyrna as tiger woods would say brought their A game on defense and the C+ or B- game on offense. Offense was ok but not on fire and some of that may have been lc defense. Bryson looked strong again as the freshman scored 3 tds two runs one pass. THE PIT: pretty good crowd but not as vocal as usual on the visitors side. worse pa system since smyrnas last year ( we finally got a new one) and no one on the visitors side knows a word that was said. it just doesn't feel the same there anymore? It now feels sort of old and dated like it needs some updates to the press box and some paint here and there. I know coach thompson is known as old school and as a disciplinarian but some of his players do not represent that and I wil leave it a that. Smyrna - good solid win took care of business and moved on and that is what the playoffs are as you know from last year- just win.

I agree wc is ON A ROLL and is probably about a 14 to 17 point favorite. However Smyrna doesn't have much choice they will have to get ready and give it a shot this friday and see if they can make a competitive game out of it. wc - every prognosticator in the state says they are the best team in the state right now as do all wc fans. I LIKE IT! now that wc has been declared state champ they are the hunted not the hunter.

sonny will be fine he is as tough as nails. knock him down he gets up again and again slight sprain - took him out due to score etc

why would smyrna be celebrating? At this point in the season everyone is good you just play whoever is next. I feel like a prophet predicting this all week. I have gave wc props on their teamwork and chemistry and just had a feeling wc would win ( but not like this!) Congrats wc! This loss is much more than a loss for riverdale it signals the beginning of the end of the riverdale dynasty. Will they still be good - sure but based on the talent level in the ole pipeline it is drying up year after year and the middle school feeder and freshman teams are way below par. This loss also hurts because this will be the 1st group of seniors that graduated from riverdale without a ring during their 3 varsity years in well over a dedcade. Wariordad82 - I guess you know now that wc answered your question on "what could they do to make the outcome different from last time." riverdale seems to have a problem in teams that play them a second time in the playoffs are having success in shuting down their wing t. Last 2 years 2 games 20 total points. great job wc see you this friday and it should be a barn burner between 2 teams that put as much speed on the field as anybody in the state.

thanks 2p you are right smyrna is 3 plays away from being the undefeated reigning state champ and yet we are not on anyones radar All I heard was last week- Smyrna hasn't played anyone as disciplined or tough as cookeville All I heard this week was smyrna hasn't seen a defense like lc --- well lc I guarantee you has not seen and offense like smyrna can bring or a defense with as much speed ( other than riverdale and they are really more power and less speed than smyrna) Smyrna 35 lc - 14 2 words for all the stop the wilkes and gray show folks #22 jeremiah bryson - freshman ---- no change that their are no rookies or freshman now everyone is a veteran good luck lc. I look forward to the trip and a hard fought football game. something fun to watch in warm ups -- gray always warms up and gradually starting at the 40 moves back 10 yards to get his arm loose and to gauge how far he can throw it if needed based on wind conditions etc. No matter which side you route for it is amazing to watch someone his size throw a ball sometime 70 yards! I have seen film on lc and they look like every lc team always does big and physical. The film I saws though was coffee county where on offense cc bunched everything up so much it looked like a rugby scrum. Smyrna fans need to ask why Steve Carson is calling Oakland daily when he should be worrying about Lincoln County. Its no secret that coach Carson wants to be a head coach as do many other assistants across the state. If he is a legitimate candidate for any of the jobs is irrelevant. Any coach that aspires to be a head coach is certainly going to talk to schools that have openings. To bad we aren't playing franklin county - we could have all went on vacation this week /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> Coach I hope you realize how bad you are making franklin county and coach Britton look by using his name in your ramblings.

I sure will coach Steve is a good friend of mine and I talk to him daily. well coach 1st off sorry things aren't going so well in winchester. smyrnas coachs record speaks for itself. Smyrna has always had to beat the best team year and year out in the state just to get to the chamionship. coach shad has not been there 2 decades he has been there 13 years and during that time has won one state championship while during this time lc has won --------------- none. (and since the earth was created franklin county has won ------------------ none) Coach Thompson is a legend in hs football and everyone knows that but to come on here and take shots at smyrnas coach and he has not established any tradition is classless and something coach thompson would never condone. and probably most of lincoln county. this quote comes to mind concerning your post. dont know enough to say if lassister is a good coach or not however after seeing gallatin play smyrna this year I can say Gallatin just did not have the talent this year. They had 2 or 3 good players and the rest were average at best and there was an obvious drop off in team speed ( they looked more like a region 3 team). Once Smyrna realized about 90% of their offense was the qb dropping back and running they adjuted by spying him. Gallatin didn't have anything else to go with after that. now I will say of covering wilkes one on one 1st td - he proved he can go get the ball we were in good position 2nd td - we had him covered he just made a great catch 3rd td - coaches mistake in not making adjustments

one little caveat in replacing hs coaches and staff no one has a "coaching" position. Everyone is placed into a teaching position. Unless those coaches on oaklnads staff are not tenured they do not have to go anywhere. They can stay there and continue in their teaching positions. Smyrna was handicapped for several years with several previous coaches still being in P.E. positions at the school forcing any coach hired to have to be vertified and fit into an open class room position ( while some coaches are certified to teach certain subjects the vast majority have P.E. certification. I would bet if you checked the P.E. type positions as well as drivers ed you would find most are coaches or previous coaches. My point is it is not as easy for a coach to bring his staff as you would think. There must be an open teaching position and they must have certification to match. Didn't seem to be any problem with Oaklands defense. Who ever comes in will probably run the offense they are use to running. As for the wing t I dont believe any 5a tean has ever won a state chamionship running the wing t and as far as I know only Hendersonville made it to the chamionship game.

good practice yesterday in full pads bryson is close to 100% (truf toe all year) he looked fast yesterday in the inside drills Inside drill was once again intense as they were challenged like last week that lc wants to run and pound the ball and does not think smyrna can play physical enough to stop them although on film they do throw it more on 1st and 2nd down than usual. As always lc size and power against smyrna speed and quickness. One advantage smyrna has is they have played several teams that run similar offenses as lc while I reviewed lc's schedule and dont see anybody that runs what smyrna does scheme wise. Smyrna wants to spread you out and if you take to many out of the box to cover they will try to run it with bryson ( for lc fans he is a freshman and has 5 tds the last 2 games as teams focus more on wilkes) Blackman spreads it and runs shotgun but reall more a west virginia style built to run it from the spread. Who are lc's players I know shelton and moran and what do you expect lc to do friday night scheme wise? Do they have a shut down corner that can cover rod one on one? Best receiver?

Spurlock not being at the top of every division ones teams recruiting list for lineman is a joke. He is the best offensive lineman I have seen in this region in --------------------- well ever.

Everry time I post about this game somebody from riverdale always says something about smyrna and that brings a response back. wc is the most dangerous 3 seed in years. riverdale has enough talent and experience and "should" win this game. wc has as good of team chemistry and is ready to make a run. wc has some good athletes and all contribute riverdale has a huge size advantage and should be able to run the ball. As I said earler riverdale is the undefeated heavyweight champion and is leading all 11 rounds by a comfortable score of 10 to 9 each round. However as they look across to the other corner they realize there are still 4 rounds to go and they know the opponent has nothing to lose and has to go all out for a knock out. I have seen both teams on the field and on film and by every category riverdale should win but there is just something about wc that makes me believe they will win even though the big ones shows riverdale picked by 90%

Smyrna road warriors!! undefeated on the road the past 2 seasons! Must be the all white uniforms. I really think it is due to smyrna is no a huge rah rah team they are all business usually. When they go on the road and get that negative attention for some reason they respond. One again pack the pit and make it loud! This late in the year not a lot of secrets here each team knows what the other is going to do. You might throw in a wrinkle or 2 but way to late to make big changes.
