I know the players at Lavergne very well they have some good young talent and the future looks better for them but trust me it is not going to happen this year. Smyrna is a very good football team that lost to 2 top 10 teams by a total of 7 points. Lavergnes wins are suspect against bad teams. Evreybody talks about Wolke but Smyrna can run the ball!

I don't know what game you watched last year! Smyrna did whatever they wanted last year. Wolke didn't need a highlight tape last year, this one game had a years worth of highlights! Probably not thats why I framed my comment by saying scrimmages are hard to judge a team by. However size is the same in a game or a scrimmage and my opinion is Brentwood will be to physical for Franklin and will be able to run the ball. I was impressed by Franklins overall speed and they play hard but once again they don't scare you to much when looking at them. When they were putting on their equipment they looked more like a basketball team which goes back to what I said about them overachieving and having a great scheme they obviously believe in( this is actually meant as sort of a compliment). Smyrna played Riverdale,Gallatin and Brentwood and in "my opinion" Brentwood is the best overall team we played I don't have a dog in this hunt just an outside opinion

Smyrna scrimmaged Franklin and played Brentwood. I know scrimmages are not a true reflection of game conditions but Franklin while being extremely fast overall could not stop power running up the middle without bringing everyone. I think Franklin overachieves with its system and schemes to take advantage of their speed. Brentwood is very physical on defense they pt 11 good football players on the field every down especially on defense. I was very impressed with both teams but I believe Brentwood will win easily As a coach told me once you can pound out speed but big will be there the whole game. One exception----- Brentwood's QB while big in size does not throw well and this may allow Franklin to bring evrybody on the run. Van Horne is the real deal and may be the best player I have seen this year.

Region 4 5a standings will come down to 2 games both involving Oakland. Oalkland controls their own destiny as far as the payoffs and seeds. Hers an interesting thought---- is it better to finsih 2nd and play one at home and if you win go to LC or finish 3rd and go on the road to a weaker confernce and come back to play a region team?Finsihing 3rd might not be the end of the world! 1. Riverdale vs Oakland 2. Smyrna vs Oakland This will be the top 3 seeds the 4th spot???? Basically you get 2 free wins with WC & Siegel (no disrespect but they are not 5a materila yet) so 2 other wins and your in the 4th spot

Lavergne runs the wing t if there is anything Smyrna does well it is stopping the wing t (it seems like a lot of the teams we play run this offense) Smyrna's defense gets little credit ,most of the touchdowns scored against them are after interceptions or fumbles that leave a short field or interceptions for touchdowns. In summary: Smyrna defense under rated and now that I think about it Smyrna 's offense needs to stop turning it over! I think Smyrna's early tough schedule will benefit them greatly. I hope Lavergne's coach makes his priority stopping the run like last year and his strategy of making "Smyrna have to pass to beat us" would be fine with me again. Wolke loves to throw against 2 and 3 deep zone defenses and it will be like shooting fish in a barrell again. Early Prediction-------- Smyrna (best 3-3 team in state) 31 Lavergne 14 I know a lot of kids on both teams so I hope everyone plays hard and everyone shows good sportsmanship. The game has lost it's luster since Lavergne won one a few years ago. Before that the intensity was high because no Smyrna team wanted to be the first to lose and every Lavergne team wanted to be the first to win. It actually has been sort of low key the last 2 years and I would love to see the students back on the field before the game again this week. Injury report for all you las vegas gamblers! Wolke- he actually ran the ball up field for the first time in 4 games last week and scored on an option. He is close to 100% Shanon- ran him at tailback a lot last week he is a load! Michael Hinson- one of our best receivers has been released by his doctor and will be available this week Caleb Frazier- lineman is back Phillip Roberson defensive end - did not play last week? How is Lavergne as a team(strengths weaknesses) and injury wise?

Thanks inot2 bad. I like playing up teams and it is fun to rattle a few cages but when someone says a player "has no guts" that is a cheap shot to a kid. If region 4 could see what I have seen this year with the pain he goes through he would be ashamed to have said that without first hand knowledge.

region 4 fan it absolutely amazes me how you can say wolke has no guts! it is so obvious from your post that you have wolke envy that is funny. wolke has been beat to death this year and he always gets up and plays on when others would fold. he is still playing with a broken bone in his foot and has not ran the ball up field once in 3 games (for you skeptics) nothing like people sitting at computers saying players have no guts. i have no problem with some smack talk about teams but when you call out individuals you obviously know nothing about that makes me realize how little stock to place on any of your post you should be labeled as uniformed biased region 4 fan

I've seen all 3 this year vs Smyrna in games and scrimmages my take is this> Link- great overall athlete and competitor don't know about his throwing skills only threw a few times against Smyrna and didn't show much? I think he is a great athlete but I bet his college future is playing somewhere besides QB. Edminson- very calm and looks in control at all times runs very strong appears to have a good arm. Has an oustanding team and coach around him and runs their system well. Wolke- who I see often has unbelieveable QB skills and arm.Physically he has all the tools. Sometimes tries to do to much in Smyrna's offensive system but he is also asked to do a lot by the staff such as audibles and calling plays at the line. best pure -QB skills wise - Wolke best overall- QB running and passing- Edminson best athlete - Link plays defense to!

Wilson Central won a footbal game everyone look out. Wilson Central lost some close games to some average to bad teams Smyrna lost to top 10 type playoff teams Brentwood and Gallatin by a total of 7 points. Smyrna will beat WC as bad as they want to.

Not trying to slam wilsoin or siegel but in region 4 5A those are as close to gimmes as you will ever get. It really boils down to 5 teams playing for 4 spots. Smyrna having beat Blackman really helped but from here on its do or die for everyone! I know one thing---------- you don't want to finish 4th and go to LC Riverdale is still Riverdale and you have to respect them but they are beatable this year.

That really suprised me but who knows? that region is not near as tough as as region 4 and I'm not sure who Coffee county beat.

For region 4 5A the seasons important games begin now. While I wished Smyrna would have won all their non region games and they certainly had their chances against Gallatin and Brentwood those loses do not affect their region goals and playoff goals. Hopefully playing a very strong non conference schedule will pay off in the future. The way it looks now? 1.Riverdale - Don't see them losing in the region 2.Smyrna - Oakland and Lavergne are the biggest challenges 3.Oakland- Don't know much about them but always finsih well 4.? Usually would pick Blackman but I believe they are just to young with to small of offensive line, however they played Brentwood well and Brentwood is a good football team Lavergne? pilling up wins against cup cakes so it's hard to judge? not meaning to slam Lavergne but even they know the best competition is in front of them but a wins a win.

Brentwood is an excellent football team and are very physical at every position. The f/b l/b #35 is a stud.#9 is elusive and has decptie speed. The qb is the biggest qb i have ever seen Smyrna put up a courageous effort despite losing several key players during the game.By the 4th quarter Smyrna was playing on emotion because they were physically exhausted from the majority of their players playing virtually every minute. I think Smyrna plays these teams well and has a chance to win but can't finish is more due to lack of depth than it is anything ,they just don't have enough left to finish the deal. Smyrna defense played well only 2 TD'S on offense and one of those came after an int at their on 30 We may not have won but I think if you asked Brentwood coaches and players they would say Smyrna is a good of team as they have played in some time Now the real season starts and we will see if playing one of the toughest non region schedules in the state will pay off?

Late prediction Smyrna 28 Brentwood 17 Smyrnas speed will prevail and the defense has given up a grand total of 3 points in the 4th quarter all year and shut out Riverdale in the second half! If Brentwood has a chance it must break out early if Smyrna gets up I think the Gallatin game will help them learn to finish an opponent ( had the lead on 3 seperate occassions). Its time for Smyrna to win one of these they have been close and Brentwood is on the ropes Look forward to a great game. The field is in great shape and cut low for an extremely fast track (ask Link from gallatin he appeared to enjoy it!)
