  1. FRA won 6-0 vs Sycamore.....pettty water logged field but the rain pretty much held off during the game. some light rain during warm ups. Don't know what that field will look like after Thursday and then a football game on Friday night!!??

  2. I've heard people in the past mention various media outlets (Newspapers primarily, but also TV or even Radio), and their coverage (or lack there of) of girl's soccer.

What specific news outlets provide good coverage of gir's soccer. I'm looking more that just allowing you to post an article that you have written, but actually sending a reporter and/or photographer to a game, doing the ocassional player profile once or twice a season.

I'm curious not only on the big city media coverage that has to deal with a multitude of teams, but also the smaller home-town papers that might be able to focus on one or two teams. Please include a link to their website if possible in your posts.

Based on what I have seen...the Chattanooga paper outshines the Nashville Tennessean at soccer...perhaps we have to compete for press with Vandy, UT, Preds, Titans, etc...so they are more limited....not sure about Memphis, Jackson, and Knoxville papers.

  3. You are a wise man! Good luck this year! I hope we get to meet up this season.

Thanks....this is her 5th year of varsity soccer so we're done after this ....with high school, we'll have to see where she finalizes for college and if she is going to play more. I have to admit, I'll sure miss it if she hangs up the cletes.

I know CAK would sure be a tough test if we get there.....It has been kind of a strange year as I've watched teams go up and down (probably more so in the AAA). I know several teams including FRA who have seen injuries really effect their outcomes. I really think this may be the toughest year I have seen in the last 5 to really pick the top 2 or 3 teams. Good luck with the contest!.....maybe I'll get in next year with no dog in the fight!

  4. It's an good question. Call it luck or whatever, but Notre Dame hasn't had to play in any rainy weather all season. If I'm not mistaken, today's practice was the first time they have even practiced in wet weather this season. Tomorrow's game is expected to be wet. Now, if you need to practice/play in 100+ weather, they are all over it....

Seriously, sloppy field conditions will like contribute to an upset or two.

Not a soccer coach but I gotta believe that sloppy conditions favor a less skilled more physical team??!! Maybe others have a different spin. It rained all day in Nashville...expect a pretty good bit tomorrow.....it may be better by the Thur. Reg finals games....but ya gotta win tomorrow to get there!

  5. we're having a monsoon here in middle tennessee....(much needed rain I might add!) but it will be interesting to see if it results in an upset ot two....this definately will change the playing conditions and the effect on teams with speed, etc! Does this change any predictions? /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  6. Looks like alphabet soup....if this plays out ....Ronnie Carter and the TSSAA will not be happy! Can we be looking at a 3.0 multiplier next!!?? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

  7. Who decides who makes All Mid-State Team?

    How are they picked? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

don't really know....sometimes I think they take the list from last year and cross off the seniors and add a few.....sometimes maybe they just pull names from a hat! I am being sarcastic (before everyone gets in an uproar!) I really don't know....it begs the question! Seriously I have seen players who had a good year the year before but maybe hardly played due to an injury or injuries and they showed up the next year as All Mid Staters...when clearly others had a tremendous year and were missed!

  8.

    AA/A

    1 FRA

    2 Notre Dame

    Top 25 Overall

    10 FRA

    11 Notre Dame

I guess EUROSPORT is waiting to see how FRA does against Brentwood High and Frankin High this week before they give FRA credit......hopefully that energizes the ladies!...to-date ND has probably had a harder schedule.....that will not be true when FRA finishes the run prior to the tournaments....guess we'll see how they handle the next 6 games in 9 days!

  9. ...... And going back to the boys team several years ago with a losing record. I believe that was my 8th grade year. It was I just looked it up. They entered the post season with a 4-9-3 record. Finished 10-11-3. Upset FRA in the semi's and then BigG said, "Nope! No winning record for you this year!"

C....when were you in school???....( I think and maybe you can correct me) going back thru 2001 the only loss by FRA to CCS was in Sept of 2004 at the Trevecca Tournament (2 to 1). They tied at the same tournament the following year....all subsequent games were wins for FRA???! If I'm correct FRA won in the Finals against CCS in 2002, 2004, and 2005 and in the semis in 2003 when FRA subsequently lost to DCA in the Finals 2 to 1.

  10. Inconsistency is probably part of it. When the are up, they are a good team. Other times, it comes back to bite them. Another thing that is effecting their record is the strength of schedule. This past weekend, they played (and lost) to Brentwood Academy, Siegel, and Ooltewah. They probably expected to loose 1 or even 2 of those, but hoped for at least one win.

They key for them will be to see how they bounce back.

I don't know how deep CCS is, but BA, siegel amd the Owls are all big schools with what I would assume is a fairly deep bench.....that takes its toll!

  11. Big Games

FRA has some challenges this week....4 games in 5 days with Brentwood, Frankin, Hendersonville, and Ravenwood. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

  12. I agree Flash. I know it won't happen and would mean too many games but, it would be nice to set it up like a club tournament. Take the 8 teams and put them into brackets of 4. Play a round robin on a 3 point system and the top 2 teams from each bracket advance to the semi-finals and play cross bracket 1 vs 2. Then winners meet in the final.

Having said all of that I realize it would be a week long tournament and too much school would be missed. There is something to be said also for having to bring your A game or go home also.

The kids who travel miss almost a week of school....as soccer grows (both boys and girls) that type of format should win some consideration....my guess is a seeding might be able to be worked out but (and I know this is always an issue and there is a separate place to discuss) there would probably have to be a set number of public school slots guaranteed in seeding.....once that happens then the seeding isn't seeding. It's all just "spitballing" and this is my last year to have a dog in the hunt.....at least until grandchildren...after this year I'll just be a somewhat interested spectator! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  13. I'd love to know that also. I'd hate to see it like it was last year that the top 3 teams in A/AA were all on one side of the bracket. I can remember discussing with some others that while it would have been hard to do, we would have been better off to intentionally lose in the Regional final (assuming you could still win sectionals, etc), and flip to the other side of the bracket.

I understand your angst....it is not always easy to turn a team off and on like that though...nor should you have to....as I have mentioned a seeding for the top 4 or 8 would help!

  14. soccer is basically the only tssaa sport with no mercy rules plus there is no real mercy rule to apply to soccer

i was at a game last thursday it was 7-0 at halftime and shelbyville got there 8th goal in the 1st minute of the 2nd half

THEY STOPPED SHOOTING PERIOD END OF STORY 1 shot the 2nd half in district that they could have won 20-0

only sport????? ....what are the mercy rules for....football, basketball, golf, track........?

  15. CAK can beat all three and are more tested but if they get rattled they are awful young to try and bounce back but they out of the teams you mentioned are the only ones i see being able to do so

that really wasn't my point .....I think any of them might and will possibly need to go on a 3-0 run.....my point is that all 4 of these teams are so close that I doubt that any one of them could play any of the others and sweep them 3 games. We all know soccer and close teams are subject to so many variables.....injury, PK, bad calls, missed offsides, etc. can swing a win for any of these against the other!

seeding the top 4 or 8 teams would be good for the playoffs....maybe not good for the publics...at least in AA/A

I know we can't do it but seeding the teams into the playoffs and then some sort of 2 loss requirement to out you from the tournament would be an interesting format....having 2 great teams beat each other up in the quarter and then have a weaker team knock them out when they are worn down does not necessarily give you the "best team" but the format is what it is......so the best we can hope for is the TSSAA gets the best teams bracketed to meet later rather than early????

  16. You are correct. Maybe the rankings are correct. We'll have to see...

I think CCS, ND, and FRA are all pretty good (not to mention CAK who I have not seen)....odds are that if they played 3 games against each other none of them would win all 3???? That makes "state" all the tougher with a 1 and done format!

  17. Perhaps. My point at the end was most team's schedules up to this point don't really matter, except getting them ready for a run in the playoffs. Prior to that, it just about bragging points and brownie points. Of course, everybody likes to see their team's hard work reflected in a high ranking. You can be ranked #1, but unless you can win your games at the end of the season, it really doesn't matter.

To your point...I think the only real ranking that FRA cares about is the one after the state tournament...as for comparing the two teams I think it is similar to last year. FRA has some top notch talent and can play with anyone, but Notre Dame is definately a larger and deeper team....last year I felt that ND's depth won out....we'll see how this year plays out....or if they get knocked off prior to meeting???

  18. MJUHB....interesting picks......I don't know how you do it......many of these are really a coin toss....so many of these team seem to be very equal......good job....I couldn't begin to try !

looks like a few good games on the board that may help clear it up even more!

  19. $250, I believe...

It is a 2 game suspension......I believe it is also a $250 fine (someone said it is an either/or but I believe it is both!) the question is and I guess it may depend upon the school or school district, but I'm not sure if the coach or the school pays the fine!

  20. Flash... most times it is not what the coach does, but what the coach says. From your description, if I had to guess, as the coach was sitting down, he might have had some comments that the ref might not have appreciated.

I know this man very well....he had turned and moved away from the ref and he would never say anything that (in my mind) would cause a resonable person to go after him. He never curses, etc. In my mind he had been carded....and I would question the role of this ref in the first card....then he move away from that ref (my daughter tells me he had not sat down yet when the ref pulled the red card, but he had turned away from the ref and was going away from him)....it seems that once you have carded the person and they move off....uness they are cursing, the ref has the responsiblity to move away as well. The coach in this issue never said anything to the ref that carded him but had very respectfully had gotten the other ref's attention and was asking him to come over and explain a call. I clearly heard him call the ref "SIR", then the other ref from up the line on the coaches side ran down and got in the coaches face. The ref from the other side never moved! It is history anyway...and the coach handled it with class, but I found it interesting to hear of Hendersonville's coach's issue....I've met him and seen him coach occassionally, I found the red card surprising for him as well! I just wondered if the referees or their organization had decided to "change or get tough"?????? As always it seems the best refs are the ones not remembered.

To your point.....yes clearly the ref that pulled the yellow then the red did not appreciate the coaches comments at any level! /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> While the ref was able to run the coach out of the game he clearl energized the fan support that positively supported the team to rally to win.....
