  1. Doesn't the TSSAA object to this? They have a million rules.

I can see if a kid is serious about, let's say, singing and doesn't want to sing Disney cartoon movie songs in the chorus at Smyrna and is willing to pay to attend, for example - Ravenwood....but how would a person be eligible for TSSAA sanctioned sports at a public school nowhere near where they live?

That right there is funny... :roflol:

Let's get down to business - to defeat the Huns

Did they send me daughters when I asked for sons?

You're the saddest bunch I've ever met

But you can bet before we're through

Mister, I'll make a man out of you

  2.

All I am saying is that we don't schedule games based entirely on if we can win or not. We try to schedule opponents that will make us better. That is why we have played some of the folks we have in the past. WE are looking to play folks with a comparable enrollment in E. Tennessee and North Georgia. If scheduling is going to be such a nightmare lets make some games happen. Talk to your coaches and put them in touch with us. Pujo you seem to be a north east tenn. guy who up there would be interested in starting a series with us?

Alcoa is in Blount County and Swain and Blount County share a common border. Gatlinburg-Pittman is probably the easiest TN school to get to with Heritage or Pigeon Forge second. Come down US129 and play Greenback. After last night I can truely say Alcoa is Beast!

  4. Always. No respect whatsoever. Anytime they win. Anytime they lose. It's always that way. That's the way they always are.

Sad. Real sad. Not to mention goofy. But after all, you are just telling it like it is.

Tom Joad, is that you? I haven't talked to you since we were cell mates in McAlester. The last I heard you were off to California. As you can see I spent some time up in Tulsa.

  5. I don't really see what the big deal with hotel rooms is. If they have enough hotel rooms to handle TTU graduations then they will have plenty of rooms for the championships. I think Murfreesboro kinda got complacent over the years and relied on the fact that they are the geographic center of the state. I hope my team makes it to Cookeville this year, but I might go anyway since it is so much easier to get to.

  6. Most of these schools that are on top of the national poll year in and year out have 3000+ students. Maryville has 1500 ...

Miami NorthWestern has 4000 students as does Lowndes County Ga. Byrnes is also a HUGE school.

When I lived in Oklahoma my kids went to Union Public Schools. If I hadn't gotten transferred back home to Maryville, my oldest would be at Union with 4,202.37 students. Here is the OK top 5 in enrollment. There have been some years when I think we (Maryville) might match up w/ Union but not year-in year-out. Union plays Jenks for the 6A title Friday night in Stillwater at the T. Boone Pickens Stadium.

    OK Enrollment Top 5

    1 Broken Arrow 4459.33

    2 Union 4202.37

    3 Jenks 2889.43

    4 Owasso 2563.42

    5 Mustang 2255.19

  7. How about "Octogon". /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> Maybe "Mountain 8". Or out of the 70's "Upper Lakes"...ULC. Mmmm' "8 Rivers." Let's see..."8 East." What about..."North East 8". Or..."Holston Valley...HVC". OK..."East Tennessee...ETC." Nah...or "Blue Ridge Conference". I say the majority of you will pick..."Upper Lakes". /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

I think the NET or upper east TN, is the only place in the state that calls it's district and/or region a conference and gives it a name. I tried to get everyone to call Region 3 4A the Snow White Conference. It didn't take.

THE BACKYARD BOWL: THE NATION’S TOP HIGH SCHOOL RIVALRY

    UNION REDSKINS vs. JENKS TROJANS

    TULSA, OK

Considered the premiere high school rivalry in the country by most prep football fans, this annual rivalry game is played at University of Tulsa to approximately 35,000 fans. Union and Jenks are two of the top rated programs in the country, and have collectively won the last 11 Oklahoma state 6A titles for themselves, with Jenks claiming the title last season. Jenks and Union are located just five miles apart, and have been competing on the gridiron since 1946. The Backyard Bowl gained its moniker, official sponsor, and traveling trophy in 2004. Since then, Jenks has won all non-district match-ups against Union.

  9. Like in the fourth quarter? when Douglas, Burnette, and Clement just to name a few were in the game??

Did I say, "Douglas, Burnett, and Clement didn't play in the fourth quarter." No! I said Maryville played a lot of players after they got a comfortable lead. Which they ususally do.

Also, Pat Ryan said that West gave Maryville their best game of the year. Sorry Pat, this honor goes to WB.

  10. QUOTE(Lost Old Dad @ Mar 25 2007 - 07:02 PM) 826422335[/snapback]'If' schools would actually spend the time and maintence on a grass field it is great. Unfortunately most do not have the luxory of having seperate practice fields and seperate fields for soccer...

I know when my kids were at Union they used the heck out of their field out there. With the new turf you can let the football team practice on it as well as the band. The soccer teams and rugby teams can also play/practice on it. The middle schools, Freshmen etc and it will hold up. I prefer natural grass, but with all the demands on the main field it is a good alternative. This is the first I have heard about this at Maryville. Are they looking at Fieldturf or Sprinturf?

  11. I went to the following Sequoyah High Schools websites to see how they portrayed the native american imagry at each school. I went to Sequoyah High in Tahlequah, Oklahoma (Nickname Indians), I went to Sequoyah High in Claremore, Oklahoma (Nickname Eagles) and Sequoyah High in Monroe County, Tennessee (Nickname Chiefs). The first one, in Tahlequah, is owned and run by the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. It is a school run by Cherokee's for Cherokee's (they have a nationally ranked girls basketball team also). The second one, Sequoyah High in Claremore, Oklahoma, the whole school district is named Sequoyah Public Schools, this is the name of the school district so with only one high school in the district it is Sequoyah High. Their website was new and I couldn't find anything about the sports teams. The last one I went to was the website for Sequoyah High in Monroe County. When the webpage opened I saw this image:

I knew immediatly that this was not Sequoyah. I clicked on the image and it said in the properties "A_typical_Nez_Perce.jpg"

    This is Sequoyah:

When the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation gave Monroe County Schools permission to use the name Sequoyah, they probably though that an educational institution would not play fast and loose with the facts. If a child turned in a research paper with incorrect imagery they would fail.

This is the problem with native american nicknames. Great care should be taken to make sure everything is historically accurate and correct. One of my children goes to Sam Houston Elementary School in Maryville. They have taken great care to make sure that Sam Houston is honored and is portrayed historically. Do you think they have any old photo in the lobby. No. They have Sam Houston. Does William Blount High School have any old picture in their lobby. No they have a depiction of William Blount. The same goes for Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett and others that are named after real people. So why put up a plains indian picture instead of a photo of Sequoyah. Why refer to your new assistant principal as the "Lady Chief in Charge" on your website.

I'm not for legislation on this matter. I just think people need to realize that this is important. The facts and history are important.
