  1. The Bruins from University School of Jackson are very stout this year returning all top 5 members and 3 very good alternates. The bruins fell short in region last year but they were young, these kids have been playing togeather for 6 years starting in middle school. This is a veteran team that knows how to win tournaments and should win A-AA state this year if they get passed Chatanooga Christian, another young but experianced team.

It will be a toss up whether CCS even makes it back this year, don't forget about Hixson. And I would have to say, even though they do recruit, Baylor has the best golf team, but they dont get a car.

  2. I have played both courses numerous times and I love them both. I think Old Fort is the better venue for several reasons:

    1. It is probably cheaper than Tims Ford

    2. Tim's Ford does not have the amenities near by that Old Fort has (ex. hotels, restaurants)

    3. Old Fort has a better set up for high school caliber golfers. There are a lot of high school golfers that can play anywhere, but there are quite a few players that would struggle mightily at Tim's Ford, mainly due to the high fescue rough, tree lined fairways, and more places to get in trouble. I feel Old Fort can be set up hard enough to challenge the better golfers while at the same time being fair to the rest of the field.

  3. I say that's enough to be considered the best golfer in the state :thumb:

Sorry, Chase's performance definitely falls in the shadow of what Hunter Green did in the AAA State Championship at Old Fort. A sophomore shot 71-66 and beat a talented Derek Rende in a playoff.

  4. Goodpasture. Enough said.

I told ya at the beginning that Goodpasture was the team to beat and they are hands down the best A-AA team this year. They are going to get that Championship that they lost last year.

  5. At the beginning of the season I would have said Hixson probably wasn't the favorite in their Region since they lost 4 seniors that led them to winning the State last year. However, I have been impressed with the way the kids have improved. They are led by sophomore Jeremy Lawson who is putting up the numbers the top 3 seniors were last year. I think you can add Hixson to the list of teams to watch out for this post season.

  6. I got a new one for ya. Jay Vandeventer (I hope that is his name). He is a freshman at Baylor, who knows how, and is from Bristol, VA. He shot 66-72 in the Baylor Preseason Preview at Black Creek from the Nationwide tees. That score was by itself amazing, especially in 100* heat and at least one rain delay. So watch out.

  7. umm. no. neither of those two guys. never heard of them. looking more of the likes of the guns in chattanooga. harris english, derek rende, kyle cothran, don franklin... just to name a few. there are plenty of young ones too... fresh. and soph.

Yea I am going to have to agree with nokona on this one. The best golfers in the state this year will be from the Chattanooga area, but Knoxville has some studs of their own(Wes Roach for example). I don't want to take anything away from Forgey, but he doesn't have the success and experience in big tournaments like Harris English for example. And if you haven't caught on by now, your best golfers play in the big summer tournaments, which gives them national rankings, school golf is just something extra. One more thing, if Nathan Cates was as good as he makes himself sound, he would be nationally recognized and ranked(kinda like Harris English).

  8. Polk County will be real good this year because they have their captain Nathan Cates leading their team. His longest drive is currently at 394 yards but I think he will beat that by the district tourney.

What does a 394 yard drive, which i don't believe, have to do with playing well? Short game and putting wins tournaments. Does this kid play any summer tournaments of any kind?

  9. Goodpasture will be pretty dominate this year in A-AA since they are returning just about everybody and Hixson graduated their top four and will be playing with a young team.

  10. Don't give up your day job partner!

    Hixson  10

    McMinn Central  0

Five innings, Brett Smalley with the 1-hitter.  Home runs by David Howard, Chip Bryan and 2 by Mark Ramsey.

See ya'll at Walker Valley on Wednesday!

I have not seen any player hit the ball like Mark Ramsey. If he played every game this season I could see him as the TFP POY. 4 home runs in 2 games! WOW! I can't wait til that game on Wednesday!

  11. I am goin out on a limb here but I think Hixson takes the POY again with Josh Green. I mean, a .500 average is good to say the least. And he has been a very successful pitcher for the Wildcats this season.
