1610 I will tell you straight up I know the man as personally as anyone. Know his family, know how he is with his kids and know how he treats and coaches his players and you are flat wrong. Will argue that any day of the week. As I said not hard to find. For the last 3 years he has done nothing but what is best for the kids at Giles Co. And taught them more than just football. If the community doesn't see it then he needs to move on and they need a coach like they had, one that would cheat his own mama to try and win. I mean in reality if you know the situation then you know as I do if Walt doesn't become HC at Giles there is a good chance that they don't play in the finals in 2013. Word was that if the coaching change didn't happen TSSAA was looking at a playoff ban for back to back rule violations by the previous staff. Those kids that got to experience that trip to Cookeville how easily it could have turned out differently. But you know hey as long as you are winning guess it doesn't matter how you get it done right??

So saying you have to stop Oden to beat Spring Hill is somehow a knock on him?? You guys production think Spring Hill was playing in the 2nd round of playoffs last year while Marshall Co. was at home. Again it is me that has said Posey is a good HS QB but for you guys to say he is far and away better than Oden is being a Homer PERIOD! Oden could throw screens or that little jet toss that Posey does and have the same high completion percentage. Just saying

If you look at my posts it is not hard to figure out who I am so if you ever feel the need to discuss Walt or his character face to face I got NO problem doing that. Goodoleboy it wasn't Posey who gave Marshall the win vs. Giles last year or have them a chance to win in.ayoffs was #9. Posey is a good HS QB and hat it. List for me his scholarship offers again??

Actually having seen both up close and personal last year hogwild you a bit of a Homer here. Oden is far and away the better player than Posey. He is decent bit not near the athlete or player Oden is. Posey has alot around him and is a good game manager. Oden can take over games and even dominate them by himself if need be. He is a division 1 athlete and Posey is a good high school player so lets not got it twisted.

Goodoleboy you never answered my question in the other thread or this one? You seem to bring Walt up in every thread or conversation... Why? You got a man crush or as I asked earlier he steal your girlfriend or beat you up in high school? You seem to have an ax to grind with the man. Worry about your Tigers and them finding a defense that can stop somebody or it is another early playoff exit. As for Walt he is in his 3rd year at Giles, has been to the state finals and 2nd round of playoffs. Has an overall record of 17-10. Is 5-2 in playoff games at GC. So ya he has really struggled. People seem to forget that last years team dealt with the loss of a very good player/person in a tragic car accident. Had a huge toll on the team in my opinion. This year the team is extremely in experienced and is not as talented overall as previous GC teams. They are playing hard and getting better. But I guess that 7-4 season last year and 1st round playoff loss as this years awesome 1-1 start got the Marshall Co. Faithful excited. So good luck.

Milo, see the bulldogs winning this one by 2-3 scores. Was a great game with Stewarts Creek last Friday! Two good football teams representing Smyrna this year. It was a war that was not decided until the end. Smyrna is battle tested in beating two good teams, too much physicality and athleticism for the raiders. Hated losing to the bulldogs last week but good luck to you guys the rest of the year.

Marshall fighting kittens win this week because Tullahoma is not very good. As for that Marshall Defense, they gave up 42 to a team that Stewarts Creek held to 8 points the week before and would have been most likely shut out if the offense hadn't turned it over inside its own 30 late in the 4th. As for Walt picking up stuff he caught on quick enough to beat the kittens at their place in the first round of the playoffs last year. Just saying!!

The Creek has potential to have a good year and make history by getting into the playoffs. Year 3 and Coach Martin has built his staff and added quality by hiring Brad Peden, former head coach at Antioch, and David Barger, former Head Coach at Lake Co. And Def. Coordinator at Giles Co. To the staff. Along with a couple more new coaches and returning talent the red hawks could be poised to make some noise in 5-5A.

Should be a good season opening game for both teams. From what I hear Overton has some explosive playmakers but has struggled at times up front. Stewart's Creek made a good showing in a scrimmage against McGavok and then in the Jamboree Friday vs. Blackman. Think this one comes down to who can slow the others run game and limits the typical 1st game mistakes. Hoping for a Red Hawk win Friday.

Justagoodoleboy, remember one thing I will give you that OC won a title but he did have SEC calibur QB leading the charge. You are right Holder was a rising Jr. But how many games had he started prior to 2013?? I don't care if his wins were in 1A or 4A or whatever coaching is coaching and actually to be honest you find alot of your better coaches in lower levels if you ask me because they typically have less talent, number of players, facilities etc. To work with. Those guys have to be more creative to get things done alot of times.you did get one thing right the previous staff work those guys 2 years SOLID that why Walt faced the sanctions and difficulties as a result of that nonstop working. Those guys are good coaches not saying that just get tired of seeing a guy who has won 18 games in 2 years with 2 playoff appearances a state runnerup and 2nd round appearance doing it the right way get questioned on whether or not he has a job.

Final note and I am out of the thread. This district will be very competitive buy not sure page will be a playoff team. They were physically manhandled Friday by Stewart's Creek in their scrimmage. They have a good QB and RB but their Oline is young and suspect. DLine pretty good but secondary looked shaky. Also heard that page lost their best WR to an injury in the scrimmage which won't help as well. Finally as for Giles and scrimmage schedule?? You play whonyou play if I remember correctly in 2012 under OC Giles schedule included East Hickman, Hickman Co. Summit, Fairview etc. Not the CPA Ensworth etc. Walt has played the last couple of years. Good luck to all 4-4A teams this fall a great district with alot of quality teams.

Thanks playthegame for my morning laugh. So now the excuse for last year's loss was the QB was trained by Osteen?? Lol ya got ya he was a Sophomore buried on the DEPTH chart when the old staff left so need to find another excuse. Second I am tired of dthe coach crap. That is why I am on here to defend a guy that is a dang good coach.I would venture to say if you took a snapshot of Walt's last 10 years or so as a head coach and O'Conner last 10 years they match up very well. They both have the same number of championship game appearances and I know Walt was in at least 3 semifinal appearances as well. The difference?? Walt didn't have to skirt the rules by practicing out of season, texting and recruiting players going to 7on7 out of state in the month of June when they are banned to get his accomplishments done. Heck he made the state finals with a deck stacked against him at Giles due to sanctions from the O'Conner tenure. No 7on7 during July, only 2 scrimmages in the fall, only 5 spring practice days and no scrimmages, no jamboree etc. The man is a good football coach that does it the right way. As far as the fall goes JAFO I think you are right on alot of things this Giles team has alot of great kids with strong work ethic that will be their M/O. I wish hem nothing but the best and I truly believe they are gonna surprise alot of folks due to the good staff and hardworking kids they have down there.

Got in a little trouble with TSSAA and lost a spring and fall scrimmage next year plus the DC is suspended for the first 2 games this year for transporting the Wallace kid to practice before he was enrolled in school. Seems the HC picked up a few tricks from his former boss. Should have been hit harder if you ask me. What you say Tiger fans I got it from a pretty reliable source.

Come on know guys lets not get carried away with the Tiger lovefest. Marshall has a pretty good coaching staff ( I take Coach Shirey on my staff any day) but the best in the state?? What have they done to get that title? a 7-4 record and first round playoff loss to a team they best the week before?? Greenville, Fulton, East Hamilton etc all have great staffs in 4A. If you go state wide Maryville, Alcoa, CPA, And many others. Marshall should be competitive in 4A this year but let's leave it at that until proven otherwise.

Redrage a little sensitive maybe?? I just stated an opinion on who I feel is the favorite to win the title in 2A. Can they be beat? Sure. But say I have been around football for a while and those guys have been playing the likes of Pearl-Cohn, Giles Co., Fulton, Dyersburg, Crockett Co.etc of the state. It is a different level than 2A for sure. Doesn't make them unbeatable just the favorite in 2A in my opinion. Maybe wrong and if so it wouldn't be the first time.

I believe 2A blongs to Trezevant this year. Those guys lost a close battle with Fulton in the 4A finals last year and have a div. 1 calibur tailback returning. With their athleticism and speed I feel it is their title to lose.

I don't put much stock in the 7 on 7 as a basis of who will be good and who won't. As I remember didn't Marshall win the 7 on 7 at TN Tech last year but lost to Giles a team that won No 7 on 7s in the 1st round of the playoffs. Just my opinion people get too excited over this two hand touch stuff, guess it is because all us football fans are starved due to lack of football. Some teams work on the things they are gonna do during the season, play younger players more than the older ones to see what they can do while other teams do things they will not do during the season just to win a 7 on 7. Like playing man under two over coverage etc. It is how the coach approaches it. So although I think Marshall will be pretty good this year I would not base it off 7 on 7. Just one man's opinion

Lol The TSSAA runs off the money from the gates of the public schools definitely not the private schools. Attend a playoff game at any of the publics then attend a playoff game at a private and check out crowd size. Or go to the state finals and go on Thursday to private ges and then Friday and Saturday to public games and check crowd numbers. If anything with he Brentwood lawsuit a few years back the privates have cost the publics money. And on the add no value to the privates then why is the split a big deal then?? If they get nothing out of playing the publics why play them? I know tonget that gate money.

You sad Kenny it is actually funny. First off small "Christian" school oh yeah the school that was at the sporting event,their team was not involved in, handing out pamplets and talking to parents. If you are recruiting kids to receive a good "Christian" education why do it at a sporting event? Tell you why they trolling for athletes. Kenny this attitude is part of the reasons privates are disliked by publics. The arrogance and how you act as if the publics are ignorant and just a bunch of crybabies. Let me put it to you soon his way, believe what you want but my conspiracy as you called it is FACT. Myself, the wrestling coach at the high school I was at and the SRO are the ones who asked the man to leave and escorted him out of the gym. True story. Their AD after we called the private school in question about it apologized and said he would reprimand the coach in question. Whether it happened or not who knows. You never did answer my question why if the private school is so much better are you guys whining about having your own league. Play the BGA, CPA, FRA even Jackson scoolhs JCS, USJ they not that far? Better competition makes you better right?
