1. Okay i dont see how brandon howard has ran over so many people, and still doesnt receive any kind of love from anywhere except the people who have actually seen him play.... HE simply doesnt get tackled one on one.........And still when three tackle him im sure it leaves them thinkin twice b4 tryin again.........hes just bad

He's a good player. I saw him only once, in the Huntingdon game, and though he didn't have a huge game statistically, he had several tough runs. He seemed to be under-utilized (if that's a word) that night. I know several of the Huntingdon fans questioned the offensive scheme of Liberty. They didn't seem to have much organization. But, judging from their recent performances, they must have picked it up a notch.

Both Howard and Turner were extemely impressive athletes on the defensive side of the ball as well.

  2. I am sorry Huntingdon, Westview, Milan or Camden has not played someone of Riverdale or MBA's caliber in the last five years and I would say even longer than that. And if you think the teams you play from West Tennessee are juts as good as competition ar those two and more than it just proves that my assumptions are right of West Tennessee fans. How about you guys step up and go play some teams above your classification and see how good the rest of TN is, instead of just playing in your little 2A bubble.

Just because one BRAND NEW member of your region once played Riverdale doesn't mean that the region plays the toughest schedule in the state. Best I can tell outside of CPA playing a somewhat down MBA team this year, no one else in the region is stepping outside to play anyone of merit. Unless you call Fairview playing 2 3A and 1 4A schools with a combined 3-19 record stepping up. Huntingdon, Milan and WEstview have consistently played each other in regular season even when they were in opposing disctricts. Huntingdon has played Lexington, Liberty, Henry County: Milan has played Crockett Co. and JCM and Westview has played Obion and others who are all higher classifications. So how does that make Region 5 tougher? 5 has been weak for the last several years--it's stronger now simply because of the multiplier rule and the influx of the Nashville private schools. They will be tough to handle come playoff time, but i can guarantee that whoever comes out of 5 and 6 will have all they can handle out of the 7/8 survivor. West Tennessee fans know enough about statewide football to know that the old region 5 wasn't on the same level. All those gold balls you speak of by the "new' region 5 was won at the single a level except for Goodpasture. You need to read the history books a little closer and realize that teh world doesn't end at the Tennessee river. We play pretty good football over here as the last several years have proven.

  3. Huntingdon wins....

    Boo Who??? :thumb:

Also, UTM might be getting so good that they might turn down some of those mustangs. I still think Donald would be a good one for us though!

They never recruit any West Tenn. kids anyway. It sure would put some more butts in the seats if they would attempt to get a more local flavor. THere have been several kids from Huntingdon who would have done well at UTM who where never offered. Till UTM starts supporting the West Tenn. area, then I have a hard time supporting them.

  4. Mustang fans are "LEGENDS IN THEIR OWN MINDS". What he said was if you take football out of Huntingdon........nothing is left but the Court House, Wal Mart and the drainage ditch.

So that leaves us with one more courthouse and a super walmart than Mckenzie has. And we still got our state appearances in baseball and girls basketball.

Exactly what does McKenzie have to offer? It's ridiculous that you folks have succumbed to questioning the merits of the town when discussing a football game just because you never win. The 2 towns are just like most of the rural towns in West Tenn. NOt a lot to do but play sports. However, you want me to believe that McKenzie offers more? In what form?? Huntingdon has more pride in their program, more success to show for it, and more FORMER players showing up on Friday nights to cheer on the current Stangs than McKenzie could ever hope for. Keep dreaming and go count up the combined scores in this "rivalry" to get yourselves back to reality. Oh yeah, hammers and nails are not rivals. Consider yourself a nail.

  5. Your right, I hate Huntingdon with a passion. I hope they all end up in the hospital by the end of the season. ALL OF THEM!!!

And your wrong, I'm from Davidson. I just hate them.

    825726510

Pretty sad that someone would wish that on high school kids. Oh well, wherever Davidson is, I'm sure they're proud of a good ole boy like you. And you're like all the rest on here who hate the Stangs cause they've had some success recently. It's called jealousy. Every successful program deals with it.

We have our share of wayward fans, as does every program, but our community supports the program like few others in this part of the state. If you don't like it, tough. We're proud of our Mustangs and could care less what a little snot nosed punk thinks about us.

  6. Next rumor...where will Rae Sykes of Alcoa play his college ball?  He's a junior now, but he's already got interest from LSU...bet  a lot of you outside of Blount Co haven't heard of him.

    YOU WILL... thumb

    825717581

I've only seen Sykes play one time--in the state title game--and he impressed me more than any player on Alcoa. By the time he finishes growing, he will be a MONSTER!!!! I can see him being a Top 50 national recruit if he continues to work and develop his already impressive skills.

  7. Craig Massey had surgery last night/early this morning and had 2 screws inserted in his leg just above the knee to correct a break. It was clean, but in the growth plate area. Remember him in your prayers. I have no word on Jon but I hope someone will update us soon.

  8. I know both of these guys are incredibly talented but also "small" for D-1. Milller has already committed to Vandy and Boo has aspirations to play at the D-1 level. Has anyone seen both of these kids play and care to compare? I've seen Boo plenty but haven't had the pleasure to watch Gaston in action. I'd love to hear thoughts on their respective abilities.

  9. This is an impossible task. We have had so many great players over the years that it's impossible to pick a Top Team. I would add the following players just off the top of my head.

    Johnny Compton

    Warren Blankenship

    Mike McLemore

    James McLemore

    James Harris

    Vic Luther

    Kent Edwards

    Priest Weathers

    Lee Butler

    Bobby Ward

    Mark Bush

    Steven Haywood

    Randy Horn

    Danny Wallace

    Steve Barnett

    Stanley Scates

    Mark Dillahunty

    Ben Mebane

and the list goes on. For what its worth. Coach Hayes said years ago that Quentin Hampton was the best player he had ever seen at Huntingdon. That covered a lot of territory in my mind.

  10. If Huntingdon's bus stops and gets 5 Krystals with cheese for every player (10 for Mansfield) on the way there is no way we will lose. B)

    825465163

Please don't feed those kids "Gut bombs" before the game. Their bellies are gonna be churning enough without adding fuel to the fire. Krystals are to be enjoyed only by those with a strong stomach or immediate access to a restroom. They have no place on the football field. B)

  11. You have barely been on here for 2 months and a hand full of days...hard to judge somebody so soon.

    825464648

Let's see Gerry has posted almost 1600 times since he started (as Gerry Bertier) in Nov of 2003. That's an average of over 4 a day. Tamir has been on Coach T for 70 some odd days so that means he's been exposed to about 280 posts by Gerry. Seems enough to form an opinion to me.

  12. HAHAHAHAHAHA, that was a very funny post.  I think Weathers will run over Brandon Warren easily, I think Ohio St. is just playing a joke on him by sending him letters every week, they shouldn't even recruit him at DE.  I know Dustin Lindsey will probably just start running back to Alcoa once he sees that huge 5'7 Weathers running strait at him, USC is just pulling a prank on him too .  But I agree with you, when he runs that trap up the middle the puny 6-2, 330 lb. Martin White will probably just lay down on the ground and let him run on through, and the 6-4, 225 lb Rae Sykes will not even bother walking on the field, I mean none of these players could stop another Mr. Football canidate Lipscomb had last week, could they???? I'm expecting Weathers to literally leave a fire trail behind him and all the Alcoa defense faceplanted on the ground!  By the way, Chris Donald will not run over a single player from Alcoa.

    825462660

Nobody said anything about Boo running over anybody. They just said he's hard to get down and the first man rarely ever does. All those big young'uns you listed are bound to be good players but give a little respect to a 5'7 kid who only weighs 145 but managed to put up the kind of numbers Boo did this year. I don't care who you support but to do that at that size is pretty darn impressive. I said earlier and I'll say it again, pound for pound he's the best player in West Tn.

  13. You guys make it sound so easy to stop a good offense. I guess if you stop Indy's stretch running plays and keep Peyton from having enough time to find his receivers then you can shut the Colts down? Easy to say, harder to do. Its called execution folks. Every coach scouts the next team on their schedule and has tapes to watch to see EXACTLY what kind of schemes their opponent runs. You might be successful in taking away part of an offense by running some ridiculous scheme, but when you do you leave yourself vulnerable somewhere else. (Got a LB blitzing the same way every time you put a guy in motion? Run inside him cause he's already taken himself out of the play) ALcoa and Huntingdon didn't get to this point in the season by changing offenses and defenses every week. Adjustments are made, yes, but the base packages stay the same. Huntingdon did run a 4-4 for part of last week's game. They had Donald, Hastings, Snyder and Taylor on the field together for several snaps. Mansfield knew Milan couldn't get 'em throwing the ball so he put another LB in to help stuff the middle. I'm sure the coaches for Alcoa are busy studying the Mustang films now and have their own ideas of how to stop the Mustang offense. But in the end, it all comes down to which of the 2 teams can execute their respective game plans and impose their will along the others line of scrimmage. As somebody a lot smarter than me once said, "you dance with the one what brung you".

  14. The additions of Marcus along with Brandon Snyder at LB and Kegan Ball at DT added a lot of speed and desire to the defense. ALso allowed Desmond to move down to DE where he has been more effective. The new starters also seemed to provide a lot more intensity that seemed to be missing at times earlier in the season.

  15. Your right, he didnt earn it, but when everyone goes off talking about boo weathers, why dont you take a look at the backs that were better than him...Markei Guy had 6 rushing TDS against Huntingdon and is only a Junior and was the leading rusher in west tn if not all of the state. Then the guy from Alcoa. I mean the numbers hes putting up are insane.

    825458954

You just can't quit can you? Instead of saying "all the backs that were better than him" and then listing ONE friggin player, why not say "there were other players more deserving". Compare Boo's numbers to any other 2A player in the state and tell me he didn't deserve to be nominated. Forget all your hatred for Huntingdon for a minute and look at it from a logical standpoint. His numbers speak for themselves and you can't just systemically say that he's not as good as so and so. He put up the numbers. Nobody else did. Isn't that what it's supposed to be about?

  16. Your right, he didnt earn it, but when everyone goes off talking about boo weathers, why dont you take a look at the backs that were better than him...Markei Guy had 6 rushing TDS against Huntingdon and is only a Junior and was the leading rusher in west tn if not all of the state. 825458954

Guy was the 3rd or 4th leading rusher in the state for the season. Boo was right behind him. However, BOO is now far ahead and still playing. As I stated earlier, Guy plays offense only. Boo plays offense on a very close level to what Guy is playing plus he plays a great cornerback and returns kicks. He deserved the nomination and both he and Guy (and Walker for that matter) deserved the award before Turner and ROgers. Obviously, Lindsey should have been in the mix as well.

  17. Is Mr Football the Heisman of HS football in Tennessee the answer to that is it is a very high honor for a football player in Tennessee to win but the Charles Greenhill Prep Player of the Year is the Heisman of High School Football that has been presented for the last 24 years by the Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club.

This award is the most coveted award a player can win in Tennessee thumb

    825458347

I agree. What is the criteria, who votes, etc. on the LB Cub awards? I've always respected their choices but I'm not sure where they come up with them.

  18. it's like when Charles Woodson won the Heisman in '97 but Hines Ward had better stats in EVERY category both offensively, defensively, and on special teams.

    825458328

Well I was referring to the 97 Heisman but I didn't have Ward in mind over Woodson. But, he would have been a better choice, as would Peyton. He can thank the ABC/Disney/ESPN media blitz for his chunk of metal.

  19. Some very deserving kids won in most cases. But how in the world can Patrick Turner and his 43 catches for 748 yds and 7 TD's, win over Boo Weathers with his 1680 yds rushing and 21 TD's and another 200 plus in receiving yards? Not to mention he played cornerback and intercepted 5 passes and also returned kicks for another pile (I don't have the number) of yards? No disrespect intended for Mr. Turner (I hope he stays in state to play his college football) but that comparison isn't even close. He wouldn't even be Offensive MVP in either of the 2 West Tenn 2A regions.
