  1. He's a good player. I saw him only once, in the Huntingdon game, and though he didn't have a huge game statistically, he had several tough runs. He seemed to be under-utilized (if that's a word) that night. I know several of the Huntingdon fans questioned the offensive scheme of Liberty. They didn't seem to have much organization. But, judging from their recent performances, they must have picked it up a notch. Both Howard and Turner were extemely impressive athletes on the defensive side of the ball as well.
  2. Just because one BRAND NEW member of your region once played Riverdale doesn't mean that the region plays the toughest schedule in the state. Best I can tell outside of CPA playing a somewhat down MBA team this year, no one else in the region is stepping outside to play anyone of merit. Unless you call Fairview playing 2 3A and 1 4A schools with a combined 3-19 record stepping up. Huntingdon, Milan and WEstview have consistently played each other in regular season even when they were in opposing disctricts. Huntingdon has played Lexington, Liberty, Henry County: Milan has played Crockett Co. and JCM and Westview has played Obion and others who are all higher classifications. So how does that make Region 5 tougher? 5 has been weak for the last several years--it's stronger now simply because of the multiplier rule and the influx of the Nashville private schools. They will be tough to handle come playoff time, but i can guarantee that whoever comes out of 5 and 6 will have all they can handle out of the 7/8 survivor. West Tennessee fans know enough about statewide football to know that the old region 5 wasn't on the same level. All those gold balls you speak of by the "new' region 5 was won at the single a level except for Goodpasture. You need to read the history books a little closer and realize that teh world doesn't end at the Tennessee river. We play pretty good football over here as the last several years have proven.
  3. They never recruit any West Tenn. kids anyway. It sure would put some more butts in the seats if they would attempt to get a more local flavor. THere have been several kids from Huntingdon who would have done well at UTM who where never offered. Till UTM starts supporting the West Tenn. area, then I have a hard time supporting them.
  4. So that leaves us with one more courthouse and a super walmart than Mckenzie has. And we still got our state appearances in baseball and girls basketball. Exactly what does McKenzie have to offer? It's ridiculous that you folks have succumbed to questioning the merits of the town when discussing a football game just because you never win. The 2 towns are just like most of the rural towns in West Tenn. NOt a lot to do but play sports. However, you want me to believe that McKenzie offers more? In what form?? Huntingdon has more pride in their program, more success to show for it, and more FORMER players showing up on Friday nights to cheer on the current Stangs than McKenzie could ever hope for. Keep dreaming and go count up the combined scores in this "rivalry" to get yourselves back to reality. Oh yeah, hammers and nails are not rivals. Consider yourself a nail.

Also, Humboldt at Liberty and Jackson Southside vs. Jackson Northside. Several other games in the West just got under way around 845CST.
  6. I've only seen Sykes play one time--in the state title game--and he impressed me more than any player on Alcoa. By the time he finishes growing, he will be a MONSTER!!!! I can see him being a Top 50 national recruit if he continues to work and develop his already impressive skills.
  7. Craig Massey had surgery last night/early this morning and had 2 screws inserted in his leg just above the knee to correct a break. It was clean, but in the growth plate area. Remember him in your prayers. I have no word on Jon but I hope someone will update us soon.
  8. I know both of these guys are incredibly talented but also "small" for D-1. Milller has already committed to Vandy and Boo has aspirations to play at the D-1 level. Has anyone seen both of these kids play and care to compare? I've seen Boo plenty but haven't had the pleasure to watch Gaston in action. I'd love to hear thoughts on their respective abilities.
  9. This is an impossible task. We have had so many great players over the years that it's impossible to pick a Top Team. I would add the following players just off the top of my head. Johnny Compton Warren Blankenship Mike McLemore James McLemore James Harris Vic Luther Kent Edwards Priest Weathers Lee Butler Bobby Ward Mark Bush Steven Haywood Randy Horn Danny Wallace Steve Barnett Stanley Scates Mark Dillahunty Ben Mebane and the list goes on. For what its worth. Coach Hayes said years ago that Quentin Hampton was the best player he had ever seen at Huntingdon. That covered a lot of territory in my mind.
  10. Please don't feed those kids "Gut bombs" before the game. Their bellies are gonna be churning enough without adding fuel to the fire. Krystals are to be enjoyed only by those with a strong stomach or immediate access to a restroom. They have no place on the football field.
  11. No but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express one time! I'm self employed. Need any health insurance??
  12. Let's see Gerry has posted almost 1600 times since he started (as Gerry Bertier) in Nov of 2003. That's an average of over 4 a day. Tamir has been on Coach T for 70 some odd days so that means he's been exposed to about 280 posts by Gerry. Seems enough to form an opinion to me.
  13. Supposedly he wasn't ejected from the game and he was suspended by his own principal. I was just wondering if anyone on here was present and saw the actual incidents.
  14. Anybody at the game have any details?? This is outside of his character and I was just wondering if anybody had any inside info as to why he was suspended?
