  1. Duckman, I have a question and I am not trying to be smart about it.

All those times over the years that Huntingdon has beat Mckenzie, did Mckenzie not come to play?

I have seen teams be flat on any given night and get beat badly including Huntingdon. However, I have seen times when one team just got beat by a better team, just like Huntingdon did a few weeks ago against Milan. I can tell you Huntingdon "came to play" but they were beaten by a better team on that night.

After the loss to Dresden and the close call against Westview, all I have heard is how Mckenzie was flat and didn't play well. How much of it was Mckenzie not playing well and how much of it was the other team just being better than anticipated?

Huntingdon has been embarrassed the last two years in the first round of the playoffs. They were beaten by teams that everyone underestimated how good they were.

It has been said on here, that on any given Friday night any team can win. VERY VERY TRUE

Yeah, sometimes a team is flat and sometimes the better team just happens to take care of business.

    stang,

I will be honest. Vs Dresden, McKenzie did not play well at all. It looked as though we had never been on a football field. Take nothing away from Dresden, they are a good football team. Westview was just flat out beating us. We seemed to be there but Westview is not a bad football team. They are young but w/ some talent.

  2. What is McKenzie's depth situation? Huntingdon only has a couple of kids going both ways and they split time on offense. Hillsman is the only true 2 way player for Huntingdon. Unless the Rebels score early and get some serious momentum, the depth factor will play a large role as the game wears on. Bell is as good a natural runner as you will see in this area and unlike in years past, he doesn't go down easily. The I has enable him to use his natural skills to the fullest and his numbers prove he has responded. He's good. Don't expect to see the wing T. This is a different Mustang team. Oh yeah, they can throw a little too.

I haven't seen McKenzie this year but I did see them last year. I know Cook is an excellent back with power and speed. The spread offense obviously gives them an opportunity to do some things that most teams in West TN don't see so that gives them an advantage in most games they play. Hayes is obviously the real deal and can make some good things happen for the Rebels. The Mustangs corners, Weathers particularly are short and prone to the fade. The safeties must do a good job of reading Hayes and helping on anything over the top.

What's gonna happen? As it most football games, the team who controls the line of scrimmage and takes care of the football will win. Huntingdon has done that all year with the exception of the Milan game and Bell had 120+ yards in that one. If one team turns the ball over and gives up some easy scores, it could turn into a long night for the other. Huntingdon should prevail because they have more good athletes. Turnovers, penalties, etc. could change that. I look forward to an exciting game and just hope that the fans let the kids play it out and not get too caught up in the emotions of the evening

To be honest, most of McKenzie's players play both ways w/ the exception of Hayes. Hollowell on D doesn't go both ways. Cook does and Howell does play offense occasionally. So the advantage does go to Huntingdon if this is the case.

  3. Here is the way I see it.

The game comes down to McKenzie's D stopping the Huntingdon awesome stable of RB's. And Huntingdon stopping McKenzie's passing attack.

Now, in the past, Huntingdon has ran the Wing T. This year have they not went to a I formation? We saw early in the season that McKenzie's stuffed people when they ran in the I. I will say though, they have not seen any talent that compares to Huntingdons backs. So, McKenzie must control the line of scrimmage on both Defense and Offense. McKenzie on offense, they must find someway to rush the ball. The line has to be able to give Cook holes to run in the middle. Huntingdon has too much speed for Cook to bounce outside. Hayes must have time to throw and he can not, I repeat can not force the ball. He has to make good decisions and the receivers must keep making the catches they have made all year. On defense, they must get push and cause havoc in the backfield. Now, if I was Huntingdon and I have watched the last 3 game films of McKenzie (Chester Co and Dresden), I would go back to the Wing T b/c McKenzie has had trouble stopping it. The LB's must cross check the backs and watch the guards pulling to take them to the ball. The DE must stay at home, check reverse and not get sucked in.

DB's also must be disciplined and not think that all Huntingdon is going to do is run, run, run. They must play pass first and run second.

Special Teams: Kick off coverage. McKenzie must stay in there lanes and make sure tackles.

  4. The only trick would be if McKenzie could pull off the major upset and the treat will be setting them up for the usual loss in round 3, just like clockwork

The usual loss in round 3? I believe we got to the semi-finals 2 years in a row.

  5. Huntingdon doesn't run the wing-T this year. They ran out of the I-formation against us.

I had heard that they changed to the I. But when they watch film on McKenzie, they will see that against Chester Co and Dresden, McKenzie's D had a hard time adjusting to it.

    Who is your team?

  6. Rebel players, especially #33 and #4, stay focused on this week. Don't overlook Westview. Play them one at a time. Focus on Huntingdon Saturday morning. Offensive line, give Drew time to throw and he will pick them apart. Defense, don't get caught up in the hand fakes in the Wing T. Follow the guards/fullback. They will lead you to the ball.

  7. McKenzie's victory at Chester County is significant in many respects. For starters, the Rebels beat a quality football team rather convincingly on that team's home field; second, they bounced back from last week's loss to Dresden with no ill-effects; third, they earned a homefield playoff spot in the first round. Many Chester County supporters were hopeful that the Eagles would emerge as one of the top teams in the area, but a 6-2 mark at this point, in a tough region, is nothing to be ashamed of. They have a good team and are only going to get better....besides, Chester County, too, is promised an 11th game. One thing is paramount for the Rebels: They CANNOT suffer a letdown at Martin next week. Don Coady will have his Chargers prepared and a little acrimonious following a loss to archrival Union City. McKenzie will not have an easy game and it needs to know this. All in all, a great defensive effort by the Rebs, a great total effort, especially on the road.

I agree w/ you on not overlooking Westview. Even though they are not as strong as in the past they will be ready and McKenzie needs to look only to week 9 and not ahead to week 10.

  8. Congrats to the McKenzie D for getting on the right page in the second half and not giving up the big play. Also, great job by the offensive line giving Hayes time to hit is targets. Keep it up McKenzie!!!!

    Next Stop: MARTIN Westview!

  9. I am a forme Blue Devil (Class of 90) and I wish White House all the best. I don't get to see them as much anymore since I now live in W Tennessee and do the radio for the McKenzie Rebels. But anyway, I have not seen them play but I know Coach Porter and Grantham and the Blue Devils will be ready! BDP forever!!!

  10. Actually I'm an Obion Central Rebel fan but I want to say ya'll have an outstanding team and I hope ya'll make it all the way this year.

I will say this about you guys. The score of our ballgame was not a blow out like it looked in the papers. I actually do the play by play on the radio for the Rebels and I was really impressed w/ your QB, Wes Moore. He has a really strong arm. I also worked w/ his sister in Murray KY for a little while. Anyway, you guys haven't lost since you played us correct?

  11. hey guys! I am a former player from White House now living in W Tennessee in McKenzie. How is White House doing? I was up there a few weeks ago and caught some of practice. Coach Porter has still as fiery as I remember. I am member of the Class of 90. We were 2A back then. Just curious.

  12. I think that McKenzie's passing game will absolutely blow Dresden out of the water ... and with our D ... I think we can handle their run attack ... but we'll see friday night ... Good Luck ...

    Rebel,

You are right. Our run D is our strong point. We win big!!!

  13. Mckenzie is overrated. If you shut down the passing game, they are through. Huntingdon wins by at least 2 touchdowns, possibly 3 or 4.

That's just it, it is hard to shut down that cannon Drew Hays has. And if you do, then we will give the ball to Cook. Lets not forget the Defense. I would hate to see two 3's coming at me as in #33. If he hits you, you will get up seeing stars if you get up at all.

    Who is your team anyway?

  14. You will see how good Dresden really is this Friday night when they travel to McKenzie. If they are going to win, they must stop the passing attack of SOPHMORE QB Drew Hays. Unbelieveable!!!! But I don't think they can and I know they will not be able to run against the defense. Remember the #4 and #33. They will be all over Dresden all night on Defense.

    GO REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
