  1. Science Hill was up 27-22 going into the last match. TN needed a pin to win. SH got a turn for 3 points in the first 30 second OT and then an escape and takedown in the next 30 second OT to win 10-4 and make the final team score 30-22.

that was a really good match to watch.  Really good to see SH win that one.

  2. Yeah I got that but I was asking about the 8 point fix. I'm not sure it works or is even fair to actual wrestlers. The fix lies within the team concept of the dual tourney or should otherwise it goes individual. Then some would probably still forfeit at some point. Instead of giving up 3 forfeits to secure the win they'd just give up 2 etc. I just don't see the easy way to address it , I think most would like to see the wrestle out match if possible. But from the coaches standpoint they are doing what they think is best for their kids and that's who they should put first.

good point.  I do not think the premise is putting the kids first though.  I think the idea is that the win comes first in this tournament and they do not want to chance a wrestler getting hurt OR getting a call referee call that DQ's the wrestler for the next match.  That is not kid first, that is win first.

  3. No . . . not really. Huge difference in muscle mass and maturity. Not to mention experience. Also, there were some things in the match that didn't go Whitworth's way - that don't show up on the stat line. Congrats to Simpson and hopefully we get to see a rematch.

I really thought that after they said he barely got beat by bowers and that they really weighed the same , that he was no longer a Freshman either.

  4. I think what dachamp means is that neither team will be bumping kids all over the place and playing strategy. Even if Soddy wins this one Cleveland is numer 1 seed in region and Soddy would be two and Bradleh 3 so they wrestle again next week to decide who wrestles against Cleveland so really tonight means nothing but bragging rights.

I do not think that is what he meant, he said he did not believe they would give 100 percent.  Nothing about strategy. You are right that it does not have an impact on the seeding, i agree there.

  5. I wouldn't count out THS just yet. They have a knack of showing up in the post season, remember last season when SH stompped them in reg season then THS reversed that result, twice.

SH won it tonight on two pivotal matches 160 and the 195 match which actually occurred @ 220 after both wrestlers were bumped up. I don't see SH duplicating the 220 match, Spangler didn't look himself tonight. The 60 match could go either way. Swap those two and the match goes to TN 33-30.

Should make Region Duals exciting. Loved the set up that the THS folks put together tonight. One of the best matches I've seen in a long time and it has developed into a great rivalry. Wrestling is relevant again in East Tennessee!

sounds like a great night.  I am anxious to see the results of the next match.

  6. actually, cobra, the polls always state that "some consideration to individual tournaments".   otherwise I agree with your entire post.

    from a recent poll posting:

Now in its 25th year, The Poll is primarily a measure of dual meet strength with some consideration to individual tournament strength.   Votes are cast by a state-wide panel of high school wrestling coaches and are based on a maximum Power Ranking of 100%.

  7. yeah they pounded us that year,  but in 2015 the score was 35-26

Cleveland was Tough as nails and still are and I have tons of respect for them as well as the other Chattanooga teams .  they are the measuring stick for any team to see how good they are.

thanks coach, my point was to show that the spread between any in the top four was not the measuring stick.  Your team clearly belonged and performed all year long.  congrats on your efforts and future success.

  8. maybe the cleveland coach can jump in, but if they believe they are at least a number two team in the state, and I bet they are set on the premise that they are really number one in the state, they will be on the opposite side of the bracket of Bradley.   And they would already be separated and thus no need to put their guys on the mat at all.  I think they would be separated based on coming from the same region.

Same for Bradley.  they would have wrestled twice already this year and potentially a third time should they get to the duals championship.

Anyway, it will be fun to see and I look forward to seeing how it all wrestles out.

  9. interestingly enough, if you look at the finals of the dual state championship just a few years ago, you will see the difference between Cleveland's team and the Wilson Central team. the score was something in the 70's to like 3.  Naive?  that is some separation there.

I had to look it up on TSSAA.org, the final was 78-4.
