1. QUOTE(timbdp @ Feb 4 2007 - 12:21 AM) 826357544

the play in the tvac league

TVAC... Get real.... It is still a school team who picks people up off the street to play..... Last year they had student(s) from White House High Playing, as well as the ole home schooled group..... To me that makes it hard to call it a school team,,,,

  2. QUOTE(naismith3 @ Jan 13 2007 - 11:37 PM) 826331316

The Patriots won 63-40. They were ahead at the half 40-15.

Why is it that McEwen and Houston County do not call in the scores for their home games? Do they call them in if they win?? Just wondering...

That is correct about McEwen.... When they had Puckett and was winning they practically called them in from a cell phone on the bench, but have a losing season and they dont want everyone out in civilization to hear about it the loses......

  3. I read in this morning paper that coach Dyer and one of the assistance from Macon County had resigned.... I know that this isnt a big surprise with all of the politics that he had to put up with there, but does anyone know where he is going?

It is a shame after what seemed like an eternity dismal football that Macon finally got a coach that was building a good program and a select few could not support him for some unknown reasons. I hope he lands on his feet and never looks back... For all of these years Macon was the Bad News Bears of High School football in the State of Tennessee and now that some one was changing that I guess it did not suit everyone and they must have liked being in the basement of High School Football......

  4. I would like to know if any other teams were told by the umpires (who were specifically instructed to tell USJ's Coach by the TSSAA) that their team had to stop celebrating by the dugout players meeting players with high fives etc. on their way back to the dugout. The umpires told our Coach that the bench players could not even leave the dugout to congratulate a player after a homerun.

IMO, the above is absurd and I'm guessing that USJ is the only team that recieved such instructions from the officials. The TSSAA needs to remember who these events are for-THE PLAYERS. It has always been tradition for players to leave the dugout to greet players that have made big plays and I sure hope the TSSAA is not headed toward taking away a lot of the fun of the game.

I would like to know if any other Coaches/teams were instructed to stop leaving the dugout to congratulate players from their own team after big plays.

    GET A LIFE !!!!

I am sick and tired of all of these teams walking around with a chip on their shoulder.... You won... Your the State Champions.... "For Now"....

  5. Ripley or Covington or South Side

    825679239

Looks like West Tennessee wasnt quite as strong as everyone thought they would be.... Let me rephrase that, looks like the rest of the state was a lot better than those in the west gave them credit.....

  6. You are absolutely right by saying that it is White House's region to lose, at least on paper from looking at what happened in 2004, but some of your other comments disturb me a bit.  You said that White House as well as Macon Co. are both coached great, but you did not say the same for Pearl Cohn or Greenbrier.  Under coach Jeff Porter White House has won a total of one state title, which was the '97 class 3A championship win over Melrose.  Unless I am mistaken Maurice Fitzgerald has won two state championships during his tenure at Pearl Cohn, which were the '96 and '97 seasons.  I am a guy who always finds a way to clown on Greenbrier Bobcats football, but let's give credit where it is due.  Kirk Williams is one heck of a football coach and Greenbrier was a playoff team long before Roger Herndon ever walked the hallways of the school.  Macon Co.????  They had one season where they made a run to the state semifinals but that is it.  Referring to Station Camp you stated that "the jury is out on them".  What does that mean exactly???  The Bisons in only their second year on the varsity level were a state playoff team a year ago.  I'd say that Station Camp is a football program quickly on the rise and they have no questions as to if they are or aren't a good football team.  DeKalb Co. will be under the direction of a new head football coach this fall and they are likely the weakest team in the region.  You were also right in saying that Sycamore "did not live up to expectations" in 2004, but you've also gotta consider that when those kids in the trenches got some varsity games under their belts that Sycamore turned out to be a pretty good football team at the end of the year.  I'm sure that Creek Wood OR Mont. Cent. would not have been too quick to play the Sycamore team that beat Cheatham Co. and Marshall Co. to end the 2004 campaign.

Here is how I see the region heading into the 2005 season:

1.) White House- the Ble Devils return Class 3A Mr. Football favorite Ricky Ladd to the backfield and he will also be joined by fellow backs Justin West and Aaron Hargrove.  Gone from last year's 13-1 semifinalist team are quarterback Kyle Levering and recievers Chad Broadrick, Cody Harmon, Mark Rippon, and Dewayne Gibbs.  Ladd is a great back with a great supporting cast around him in the backfield but replacing all of that production from an aerial attack that was very good last year won't help out coach Porter and his staff.  It will be interesting to see who emerges as the heir apparent at these positions for the House this spring when they take on Gallatin

2.) Pearl Cohn- the Firebirds began the 2004 season great with wins over both Hillsboro and Mt. Juliet.  After they'd lost to Metro rival Hunters Lane as well as region rival Stratford in two hard fought football games they had to forfeit their early wins.  That really took the air out of the young Firebirds and their season was downhill from that point on.  Returning for coach Maurice Fitzgerald, who has been the head football coach at Pearl since 1990, are a great cast of talented players led by tailback Bobby Council.  Freshman quarerback Dauntae Mason really played well for the most part for Pearl last year and he has some solid recievers to thow the ball to in Rashad Mason and Deshawn Cotton.  A week seven matchup with White House in Nashville could decide who will host the likely rematch in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs in November.

3.) Station Camp- the new school in Gallatin burst onto the scene quickly in year one as they went 4-6 and just missed out on making a trip to the state playoffs.  Last year was a different story as the Bisons went 5-5 (in a region that was tough with the likes of David Lipscomb and Goodpasture on the schedule) and made a trip to the TSSAA class 2A state playoffs.  Returning for Station Camp in 2005 is a solid player in quarterback Will Anderson, who really is underrated across the midstate area.  If Anderson's recievers step up big, then the Bisons might make it back-to-back trips to the playoffs in only a brief amount of time.  A home game with Sycamore in week two will likely be a bench mark to see where the Bisons stand in a very tough region.

4.) Greenbrier- the 2004 season was the most successful one in the history of Greenbrier football as the Bobcats went all the way to the Blue Cross Bowl.  Coach Kirk Williams might be the best coach in the midstate, although that White House monkey on his back really does hurt.  Greenbrier has made it to the quarerfinals, semifinals, and the state title game for the past three years and although some great players graduate (including Mr. Football award winner Roger Herndon) I expect that the Greenbrier nation will still have plenty to cheer about. Returning for the 'Cats will be Roger's younger brother Kyle.  Kyle is a versitile athlete who can play either reciever, quarerback or running back.  Joining Kyle in the backfield will be backs Troy Dill and Justin Pigg, who will both have the tough chore of replacing Roger in the backfield.  The region portion of the schedule starts off good for Greenbrier with a home game against DeKalb Co., although the other four out of the first five games are at PJPII, David Lipscomb, at Marshall Co., and at Cheatham Co.

5.) Sycamore- last season started off great for first year head coach Gary Halstead as Sycamore rolled past Rossview 34-7, but from that point through the 7th week of the season was anything but great for the Pleasant View faithful.  Sycamore lost close games to Creek Wood, Mont. Cent. and Page and were flat out crushed by Greenbrier and White House.  The only win Sycamore could manage in that six week span was over a JV Harpeth Indians bunch.  Something strange really happened as the 2004 season came to a close for Sycamore.  After a home win over Giles Co., Sycamore beat both Cheatham Co. and Marshall Co. (two second round playoff teams a year ago) to end the year.  Gone are several key components from an offense that rolled up huge yardage regularly and the school's all time leading tackler in Jake Vaughn, BUT returning are several linemen that were young early in the year last year who really grew up before everyone's eyes late.  Also returning for coach Halstead are several players with varsity experience who will now get their chance to shine like Austin Lohin, John Clanton, Jem Moore, and Matt Carrigan.  The week two matchup with Station Camp will be HUGE for both teams.

6.) Macon Co.- the Tigers like Greenbrier had their best year in school history recently but instead of 2004 there's was in 2003 when Macon made a trip to the class 3A state semifinals before losing to back-to-back champion Fulton.  Graduation hit this bunch hard at the end of the 2003 season and 2004 was sure to be a rebuilding year and like Sycamore, Macon Co. got much better as the year progressed.  Back for the Tigers is running back Michael Dallas who rushed for nearly 1,000 yards a year ago.  The battle for quarterback is still up for question for Macon as both Keith Kirby and Adam Shaw played quite a bit at the position a year ago.  Kirby claimed the position late last fall after an impressive performance against Cannon Co. but the senior Shaw really would like to claim the job heading into the 2005 season.  With nearl 40 upperclassmen on this year's roster Macon Co. is sure to be better than last year's 4-6 team that just missed the state playoffs and a week zero matchup with former region rival Trousdale Co. will show where the Tigers stand amongst the big boys in the midstate.

7.) DeKalb Co.- New Coach means REBUILDING will take place in Smithville, but a season opening matchup with lowly Warren Co. could serve as a confidence builder heading into Greenbrier to start out the region portion of the schedule.

    825659373

I did not mean to slight Kirk or Maurice and I personally know both of them, they are both great coaches and have experienced success in their careers. I probably should not have referred to any teams coach as good or great because this region has some exceptional head coaches and assistant coaches...

Yes Coach "Fitz" outdistances Coach "Po" by one state championship.

But there isnt any water towers painted for a State Champion along I-24 or Hwy 49.

My comment on Station Camp comes from their move in classification and regions this year that is why the "jury is still out" on their 2005 success.....

Changing the subject somewhat has Sycamore hired a boys basketball coach yet? If they have who got the job??

  7. wow sonny gray is 6-0 or 7-0 right now after beating mt juliet 1-0. he only gave up one hit! this kid is AMAZING! his still got an era of 0.00. thats incredible for a freshman. I see this kid playing big league ball someday, no doubt.

    825653960

My heart goes out to this young man with everything that he has gone through this year with the loss of his dad in a traffic accident last fall. He has really proven himself to be a top prospect... His Dad was a top notch Baseball Player also....

I certainly am one of his fans and hope he finishes out the year undeafeated record with a 0.00 ERA.......

  8. Will this district tourney be held at Houston County instead of at Davidson?  Why the change?  What, if anything, will this change mean to teams in this district (other than HC of course)?

    825659025

There probably is nochange, they havent known what they were talking about yet...

  9. What district are they in and who are the top competitors in the region

    825658912

    They are in region 4

    Sycamore

    Pearl Cohn

    Greenbrier

    Station Camp

    Macon County

    DeKalb County

It will be a strange year in this region...

*White House their region to lose this year. Great Coaching Staff Great core of returning player but they lost a lot of good players also...

*Sycamore did not live up to expectations last year so it is unsure what they will have

*Pearl-Cohn - Athletic should compete but time will tell

*Greenbrier is coming a regional championship and should still be competetive but not to the level that they were at last year.

*Station Camp - Has an Athletic team jury is out on them

*Macon County - Great Coach should be better than last year how much better no one knows

*Dekalb - Most likely the weakest team in the region

  10. Give the new coach a chance before you start on him!

    825657857

Hate to break it to you buddy I am in support of the coach even though I am not a Marshall County resident. I dont see how you took what I wrote and turned it into me "starting on him"...

  11. White House has a kid named corey allen who is having a bit of an off year.  He has only hit 12 homeruns in 25 starts.  He has 38 homeruns for his career.  He is only a junior.  It has also been said he is an awesome pitcher.  He has a 91 mph fastball along with a nasty slider.  He averages 5 or 6 college scouts per game.  He has had 4 pro scouts this seaon.  He has received calls from UT, Vanderbilt, and Texas to play baseball and has been offered letters for their track teams also.  He is rumored to run a sub 4.5 40-time.  Not bad for a Junior

    825656551

Now that is funnnnyyyy!! White House has a heck of an Athletic Program but I seriously doubt anyone from White House will be receiving a track scholarship, especially to UT or Texas.... This post sounds a little fishy to me....

But on the other hand maybe he will run in the next olympics....

  12. Earlier this year you couldn't get on the T without seeing something about Marshall Co. and their releasing of Coach Mac as head football coach.  A surprise hire from Stratford and now we've not heard anything in months.  How's he fitting in?  Will he return the Tigers to the prominence of the 80's?  Is the new region gonna play a factor in how successful he'll be?

    825656685

The Coach is a great man.... There is no problem there for sure...

The problem will come from the moms and pops when little Johnny doenst get to play.... Marshall County has set the ground work now. It will be like a little kid and when little Johnny doesnt get to play they will go and tell Papa (Director of Schools) on them (Coach)....

I certainly hope for the people of Marshall Countys sake that that doesnt happen again...

  13. I have seen where everybody was picking on mcewenbaseball and I know the ones making those posts and our team backs up every one.  We dont like your team East Robertson, I dont like your team so shut up about it.  We also know what your coach said about Daniel Puckett.  So why dont you all try messing with somebody else.  And yes I do play for McEwen.  That means mcewenbaseball isnt the only one that doesnt like you.  Try the hole team!

    825656545

Out of curiosity what did their caoch say about Daniel Puckett?

  14. White House has really come around this year.... They are playing good, they have a good coach, however, I am not sure if they will have enough to out distance Beech... I predict Beech wins 5 - 2.... If a good pitcher steps up White House should have a great team next year when they move down to "AA"

  15. Get over it man! If you have nothing better to do than bash a team that just, flat out, out played you then you got problems. Its not East Robertson's fault that your catcher got tossed because he has a horrible attitude and is probably done for the rest of the year because that was his 2nd offense! Shut up and play ball. Prove it on the field!

    825653419

The catcher got tossed huh.... That is interesting.... I didnt know that anyone could ever get that carried away to get thrown out twice in the same season.... He will be done for the year for sure... if that is the case....

McEwen has some athletes in all of their sports only if they could just get control of those ATTITUDES...

  16. McEwen just has a very hard time with one thing.....

    LOSING

If they lost in Football they complained, if they lost in Basketball they complained and now it appears if they lose in Baseball they complain....

    "They are punks"

"The ref pulled it off for you"

    complaints, compaints, complaints

  17. That was totally uncalled for.  I hope your program never has a down year.  These are young kids trying their best.  You are a jerk.  Just remember, what goes around comes around.

    825649939

I apologize the jab was not intended at NS or Humboldt. I was actually taking up for you all because someone would brag about running up the run totals against you... I know that everyone has a down year and it makes me mad when teams pad the run totals when teams are vulnerable. Sorry did not mean to make any NS or Humboldt fans mad....

  18. You are not bursting my bubble.  I know you can play for five years if the school you attend includes 8th graders in the same building as the high school.  The question that was asked at the beginning of the thread was can you leave a private school and play for 4 more years at a public school.  The answer is NO, you must play for the same school.

    825649678

This is true once they play that first varsity game they are for ever tied to ALL TSSAA Regulations... 8th grade or whatever..........
